this crossed a very important line.
it isn’t about the ships at this point, it’s about queer characters’ feelings being used to ‘uplift’ the straight couple’s relationship.
as a queer person myself, will’s car scene has me sobbing all day. all day. and i know it’s “just a tv show” but honestly? it makes you believe that this is the most you’ll get. treating a queer character as a plot device and having them suffer, be ignored and left out is actually heartbreaking. we all know they can do better than this
god, he literally called himself a mistake.

this was it. This was the last fighting chance to save not just your loved ones but the place you spent your life in. It was everyone on the line or we were all doomed.
———
The trailer was silent. Everyone knew the sacrifices that they were making, especially max’s. They conjured up this plan, hoping it would go their way. It has to. Nothing has ever prepared everyone in this trailer for this moment in their life. Eddie, who was gripping his spear tighter and tighter, suddenly felt Y/N’s arms snake hook on his own—shaking him out of his rushing thoughts. Her grip tightened slightly, as her body shifted closer in her seat to almost hug Eddie from the side. Her head, gently laying on his shoulder was the smallest comfort he coveted. Hell, it was what he needed.
He looked over at Y/N, her eyes staring off at the distance. Her gaze was almost lost in a state of dreaming and a constant state of worry. Her eyes glossed over growing tears with furrowed brows. His heartbeat, beating one, two no, three or more; growing faster and faster the closer they get to Creel house and the tighter the grip that Y/N had on not only his arm but his heart.
It was now or never.
“Hey, you know…” a bump on the road suddenly cut Eddie’s soft voice off as he leans over to Y/N’s small frame. Her face slowly turned and faced up to meet his coffee brown orbs. The look on her face; something about it illustrated such grief and worry, yet, the mask of determination painted on her face still shone through. Her teary eyes with her furrowed brows softened and gave a moment of vulnerability that shattered his heart. If he could see her smile again, hear her laugh again, see the glint in those eyes when she made her way towards him. He would do anything to see happiness return to her face once more. Just for a moment—for Y/N’s sake. “Y/N, you know, when all of this is over and my name is cleared, do you want to…maybe go out? I know a cool place that we can go to and forget about fighting monster-upside-down-demon-bats and risking our lives to save the world.”
Those eyes. Those eyes never lie. He knew it from the look that Steve gave Nancy, and these were no different. Y/N sighed and smiled. “Yeah. I’d like that a lot, Eddie.” Eddie gave a small smirk, biting his bottom lip as he felt Y/N’s small hand travel its way to his, and intertwine itself with his.
She fucking smiled. It calmed his nerves in a way his nerves never relaxed before.
———
“LET’S GO, LET’S GO!!” Eddie’s voice echoed throughout the dark trailer. The demo bats, now swarming and crashing into the door of the trailer in packs of hundreds piled and piled on, growing in volume by the minute. Eddie and Y/N, lifting Dustin from his feet, basically launched him up the return portal, landing on the mattress of Eddie’s trailer. “C’mon quickly!” Eddie yelled next, quickly grabbing the bottom of Y/N’s shoe as she grabbed and lifted herself into the portal. Following Dustin’s path, she flipped back onto the mattress of Eddie’s trailer, successfully returning to reality.
Eddie, who grabbed the bedsheet rope, climbing, had suddenly stopped. His brow furrowed as he looked bat at the guarded door, ignoring the pleas and questions coming from Dustin and Y/N. His heart was beating tenfold. Looking up at Dustin and Y/N, he made the decision. Y/N knew that look in his eyes, those chocolate orbs, she knew what he was about to do.
With a feral yell, he jumped off of the rope and landed on his feet, grabbing his spear as he cut the bedsheet rope clean off, cutting the line of entry upside-down. “Eddie, what are you doing?” Dustin yelled, frantically jumping and yelling above him as Y/N stood there with a shocked expression—tears growing in her eyes.
Those eyes, he will never forget, and those eyes, for a moment he took, told everything he wanted her to hear.
I love you.
“Eddie! No!” Y/N and Dustin yelled. “Eddie No! Eddie Stop! Eddie, please, what are you doing?!” Dustin yelled, voice breaking at the sight of Eddie taking away the mattress below and picking up Dustin’s shield. “Eddie, please! Baby, don’t do this! Let me go with you!” The sound of his name coming from Y/N’s mouth—all broken and bruised, and hearing her call him Baby, was the drive he needed. “I’m buying time.”
And with that, he was gone.
“Shit. Fuck. Stay here!” Y/N, thinking quickly, stacked a chair on top of the mattress, swiftly getting up and reaching whatever was left at the blanket rope. Dustin, who took another chair he found, followed suit beside her. “What are you doing!? You’re staying here, in case something happens, I need you safe!” Y/N yelled, shoving Dustin back. “Y/N, I’m going in there with you to go get Eddie.” With a grunt, she stepped off her chair and held the teenager by the shoulders. “Dustin listen to me!” She violently shook him to halt his actions for a moment. “You have to be safe. You HAVE to be here when Robin, Steve and Nancy make the call. If you aren’t here, no one else is. Please!” She begged, tears falling out of her eyes.
In the heat of the moment, Dustin did nothing but also shed tears, letting her go back.
He watched her push herself back up the chair and into the hole, seeing her land on her back hut and quickly follow the demo bats above.
He wasn’t going to listen though. He wasn’t going to let them go.
————
“Well, you’re not so much of a freak to me Munson.”
“Hey, Eddie, I just wanted to thank you for saving my ass back there.”
“Yeah, whenever the world ends, I’ll be right here for you Eddie.”
“We believe you.”
“They just don’t know you like I do Munson.”
“Never change, Dustin Henderson.” “Wasn’t planning on it.”
“Why would I abandon you? I’ll never abandon you, Eddie Munson.“
“Eddie please! Baby…”
Their voices echoed through his brain as he watched the demo bats swarm around him, trapping him as if he was in the eye of a tornado. With his spear up, hands shaking and shield high, their words echoed in his head. Giving him strength, courage, and love. Y/N’s voice. Her laugh echoed in his brain, her touch lingered on his arm. The colour of her eyes painted in his mind. He looked up at the swarming demo bats and was ready to fly.
———
“Eddie! Eddie!” Y/N’s strained voice echoed through the empty trailer upside-down. The pain from the fall was numbed by adrenaline as she felt her legs carry their courage as she ran out the door. Suddenly, loud noises came from behind her and landed Dustin down from the hole as well. “Dustin!” She yelled out, rushing to the kid as he screamed in pain. “Shit!” She huffed as she took him in her arms. “What are you doing are you crazy? I told you to stay up there and be safe!” “You die, Eddie dies I die. I’m not leaving you Y/N!” He yelped, holding his leg in pain. Y/N gave one look at the kid in her arms and immediately nodded. “C’mon.” She said quickly, throwing her bandana on the floor to quickly tie it around his ankle before wrapping her arm around his body to help Dustin stand up.
The swarm of demo bats soon flailed into the sky and disappeared as quick as they came, seeming to have been called towards the opposite direction of the Creel house. The two called out for Eddie in the open darkness, seeing a body lying on the floor; almost too still. “Eddie!” Y/N’s voice echoed as she pointed and helped Dustin towards him.
Dustin was on one side of Eddie while Y/N kneeled on the other. They both helped bring Eddie onto Y/N’s lap, as she kneeled to get him slightly off the hard ground. Eddie grabbed onto Y/N arms as Dustin held his hand on his other side. “Oh God, Eddie,” Y/N said, voice breaking and tears already falling onto the floor. “That bad huh?” Eddie said, barely choking out his words. Covered in blood, the two held onto him as Dustin’s words rushed out of his mouth. “No, no, you’re fine. We just need to get you to a hospital.” “Dustin stop moving him.” The two clamours as Eddie now lays on both Y/N and Dustin. He looks up at the two; Dustin holding his head up by supporting his arm while Y/N had a hand on his cheek and the other intertwining their hands tightly. Eddie’s expression, like he is still holding in his pain to not showcase he’s hurt, smiles in the foreground. But the tears and the hurt in his voice tell a different story.
“I didn’t run away this time right?” He says, no—he asks. He asks like it was all a dream. Like he just stood there and conjured up that he did run away like the coward that he is. But he didn’t. He looks up at Y/N, wanting her confirmation through watery eyes. “No. No, no, no, Baby. You didn’t run. You stayed, Baby, You stayed Eddie.” He smiles through the pain at her words, bringing their laced hands to his mouth, and giving them one last kiss before landing it on his chest and bringing Y/N closer. He turns to Dustin, his other hand now reaching to grab his collar. “You’re gonna have to look over those little sheep for me, okay?” He says, voice breaking through the pain.
“No! You’re gonna do that yourself.” “Nah, man. Say “I’m gonna look after them. Look after Y/N.” his voice grows softer, lighter even. Shakier than before. At the mention of Y/N, he looks at her once more, his face grows more gentle. A tear runs down Y/N’s face and lands on Eddie’s cheek as she looks down at him, holding back her sobs with her lip between her teeth. “Say it.”
“I’m gonna…I’m gonna look after them—look after Y/N.” Dustin chokes out through sobs. “Just, imagine, graduating.” He barely gets through his words. “I think it’s my year guys. I think it’s finally my year.” His gaze switches from the both of them, they a choked smile and tears dripping from the corners of his eyes, he smiles. His grip tightens on the two before him. “I love you, man.” He squeezes out to Dustin. “I love you, Y/N.” he says, wanting to reach for her cheek but falls flat—his air stopping midway at his throat before he goes quiet. Forever.
Dustin sobs, leaning into Eddie. Y/N’s eyes grow wide, tears pouring out like a waterfall on her cheeks as she can’t find the words. “Eddie? Eddie! Eddie, no, no, no. Wake up please! Eddie please wake up! Eddie, I love you, please!” She says the breath in her lungs is robbed with sobs as she cradles Eddie in her arms. She feels Dustin’s hand grip her that lay on his chest, and they cry together.

I keep seeing this parallel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But what I haven't seen adressed is if the first scene is intentionally paralleling the second. Vickie and her boyfriend break up some time after this moment. And then it strongly suggests Vickie and Robin will end up together next season.
They even put Mike and Vickie on the same sides of the screen.
It wouldn't really make sence to have an end-game ship parallel one that only lasts a few minutes on screen.

ronance request about how nancy wouldve reacted if it was just robin who was pulled by the vines and came close to death in the creel house
thanks for the request! this scene had me on my toes lol
VOLUME 2 SPOILERS
motion sickness (1,476 words)
“Gotta be honest,” Robin began, toeing a nearby vine with the tip of her shoe. “This is not the kinda vacation I thought I’d be on this spring break.”
“It’s a fixer-upper,” Steve agreed with a grimace, flashlight casting an eerie glow across the zig-zag pattern of throbbing alien foliage. Nancy watched them move like snakes up the wooden banisters, banisters she’d seen now in three different forms - new, abandoned, and upside-down. In the back of her mind she could see Henry’s sister race up the steps two at a time, laughter bouncing off the high ceilings of the house. She lifted her flashlight accordingly, catching a few unknown entities muscling around in the dark. She grimaced at the sight. But there were more important things to worry about.
Robin was teetering from side to side beside her, gnawing on her fingernails anxiously.
“That’s one small step for man,” Steve murmured as he stepped over the first vine and entered the house fully. Nancy traced his pattern with her eyes, noting the diagonal crosses he had to make in order to reach the base of the stairs. She returned to Robin, hoping she’d been paying attention the same. But Robin’s eyes looked far off. She looked more scared than Nancy had ever seen her, Lover’s Lake and all.
“Shit,” Robin said eloquently. She blinked. “Shit.” Nancy gnawed at her bottom lip. How much time would Eddie get them? It felt like twenty seconds and twenty minutes all the same, Robin hesitating at the gates of Hell taking up too much precious space. Before she could really consider it, Nancy took Robin’s hand from where it’d been clenching and unclenching at her side, and wrapped their fingers together so tightly it hurt. Robin’s head shot up like she’d been shaken awake, eyes wide and glassy.
“It’s okay,” Nancy promised her, even though the words were shaky. “We can do it together, yeah?”
“Yeah,” Robin agreed softly.
Nancy took the first step over the threshold, sneakered foot placed in between vines purposefully. Robin followed, their hands linked over the foliage as they slowly trudged through the muck. Her footing was a little unsure compared to Nancy’s, wobbling a bit more with every step she took.
“Watch out for -” Steve cut himself off, gesturing to a large snaking vine that seemed to just appear from behind the staircase. Nancy stopped herself from where she’d been about to put her foot, catching Robin just in time. They stumbled into each other, caught in a circle of vines and pressed back to chest. Being so close to Robin, Nancy could smell her dulled perfume - something fruity. Something Robin. She resisted the innate urge to let herself lean into it and fall against Robin’s chest, remembering a little too late where exactly they were. She weighed their options and took another leaping step. Steve was there to steady her after, other arm outstretched for Robin. The three of them walked up the stairs together, hopping over vine after vine and each nearly tumbling back down to the bottom multiple times.
“I wish I could tell my mom I did this,” Robin muttered about halfway through the stairs. “She’s constantly nagging me about my inability to keep balance. Well, look at me now!”
“I’m looking,” Nancy said, laughing nervously as she used her arm to block Robin from falling to the previous step. “You should be looking too, Rob.”
“Trying my best,” Robin said, embarrassed. She ducked her head underneath her bangs, hiding her flushed face. It was really cute. Nancy wasn’t sure what to do with that thought.
Steve was waiting for them at the top, not impatient but definitely worrying about the time. Nancy came second, just a few steps above Robin. The two stretched out hands for Robin to grab and get pulled up the final stretch, landing together in a considerably large empty space. It almost felt like it was time to celebrate after that laborious journey, but Robin gestured in between them to the cracked-open attic door. It loomed in front of them, practically damning.
Silently, they dolled out the weapons and squared their shoulders. Nancy watched Robin’s face shift from nervous to determined as she reached up to adjust the beret on her head. Just then the ground underneath them trembled. Steve’s arms came instinctively around both of them. He used his body to shield them from falling debris from the attic floor above, dust coming down in big gusts that had Nancy coughing.
Robin squeezed her eyes shut and Nancy remembered what she’d said about earthquakes. Their hands found each other again in the tight pile the three of them had made, Nancy tapping out a calming pattern on the back of Robin’s hand. Finally, the ground stopped shaking and the dust stopped pouring. Steve straightened back up, face set seriously.
“Nancy-” Robin opened her mouth to say something but she was cut off by the stomach-droppingly familiar sound of a snaking vine. Nancy had just enough time to look down to see Robin’s feet become encased by a vine before she was being yanked up and slammed against the wall of the house, going ragdoll.
“Robin!” Nancy shouted, voice ragged. Robin’s face scrunched in pain before she let out a gasp. The vines were everywhere now, pinning her to the wall - around her wrists, her ankles, one even extending around her neck. Nancy’s heart dropped to the soles of her shoes and out onto the floor.
“Steve!” Robin shouted. The fear in her voice was halting. “Nancy! Nance!” Before she even really knew what she was doing Nancy was taking the axe from Steve’s hands, who was clearly too stunned to move first. Nancy rushed for the wall, letting out an agonized cry as she swung the large axe back. It connected with the vine around Robin’s leg, chopping it instantly. The house groaned in protest.
There were so many vines. Nancy continued to heave the axe back, ignoring the growing ache in her shoulders from the weight of it, and chop at the vines that had Robin pinned. Every time she blinked (few and far in between) she’d see Barb again, trapped by the vines, collected at the bottom of the drained pool like a fly lying in wait for a spider. She couldn’t let that happen to Robin. She couldn’t. It’d kill her.
So Nancy chopped. And chopped. The vines that she cut were replaced with new ones. Robin’s legs kicked out, her hands furiously attempting to grab onto something, anything that would give her leverage. It must not have been ten seconds but it felt like eons of holding her breath working to free Robin, to save her.
Steve came up to Nancy’s side then and he flicked the lighter they’d been planning to use for the molotovs. He pressed it to one of the vines - it recoiled in pain. Just like Nancy had been predicting with the hivemind all the vines around Robin retracted the same, like they’d all been burned. There were so many fucking vines.
Robin dropped to the ground with a raspy gasp, clutching at her throat. Nancy tossed the axe to the side and scooped Robin up in her arms, pressing her face to her shoulder. She realized she’d started crying at some point, tears wetting Robin’s hair and cheek. Robin’s arms, after a moment of rest, came to encircle Nancy’s waist and pull her close. Nancy pressed her face to Robin’s. God, they’d been so close.
“I can’t lose you,” Nancy whispered, voice ragged and broken. Robin nodded and said something too muffled to be heard. But then Nancy felt something warm against her neck, bared by Robin’s hand pulling down her collar slightly. A kiss, maybe. Nancy hoped her blush wasn’t super obvious.
“Not to interrupt,” Steve began. Nancy looked up to see his dumb, knowing grin. She flushed. How could he read her so well? “But we do have a mega-monster to kill.”
“Right,” Nancy coughed. She pulled back from Robin, who at least had the decency to look just as abashed. Nancy stood first and extended her hand, which Robin took gratefully. Steve picked up the axe from where Nancy had tossed it and threw the lighter at Robin. She fumbled with it for a second before holding it up victoriously.
“We’ll talk later?” Robin said, more of a question than a statement. Steve led them up to the attic, Nancy taking up the rear behind Robin. She let herself smile despite the circumstances, although she winced as she watched Robin paw at her red-rimmed throat.
“Definitely,” Nancy promised. Robin smiled too. And yeah, Nancy had a lot to say about that. But this was not the time for sexuality crises or waxing poetic about Robin’s smile. Like Steve said, they had a Vecna to kill.

Steve respecting Robin's secrecy as a lesbian no matter what made me so fucking happy all season long.
One of the biggest parts of Steve's character recently has been how he feels like he's failing all these expectations on who he is supposed to be and what he's supposed to be doing (ie. not being in College, feeling like Dustin is replacing him with Eddie, etc). And one of Steve's biggest traits as been his reputation as a womanizer. But even with his continued failure in that regard in S3 to mentioned redemption in S4, he never once tells anyone why he and Robin are just friends.
It would be incredibly easy for him to say "She's not into dudes, so really it's not my fault I haven't gotten with her, ya know?"
In the face of Dustin's continued pressing on the subject and the Nancy moment, he only has ever said that they are just friends. Because he respects Robin's decision on who she tells and understands that it is incredibly dangerous for that sort of news to spread in their time and place.
Sure, he'll tease her and encourage her to just go for it with Vickie, but he never tries to make her feel bad about being scared and never tells anyone (not even with the people he trusts in a "you can't tell her that you know" sort of way).
Because, even though Steve Harrington's first examples of abusive behavior were directed at queer people, he has accepted fault and grown from who he was in S1. And that's fucking beautiful.

seeing milevens post shit like “will finally earned my respect this season! he’s mileven fan #1, and i like that! :)” is kinda insane bro. he’s not mileven fan #1, but he IS mike fan #1, and loves both mike and el (in different ways, but still), so obviously he wants what will make both of them happy, even if it means pushing down his own feelings and hiding how upset it makes him…? did y’all not see him sobbing in the van or something??? anyway i respect y’all mileven shippers bc ships can coexist but why are some of y’all so happy to see my poor boy will go through pain like that goddamn 😭

Did we ever see Steve give Eddie his denim vest back? If not, did he keep it for himself? Will we see Steve in future episodes rocking the Motörhead, megadeath vest? Or do you think he has it and is going to give it to Dustin, since Dustin was the most affected by Eddie’s death other than Eddie’s uncle (presuming he’s not brought back, which honestly, do we really believe the duffers would give us that ray of sunshine back?)?
It would be beautiful to have Steve give Dustin the jacket for his birthday or something since his birthday is coming up soon (according to Suzie). Maybe Steve would say something along the lines of “I know how important Eddie was to you, and even IF I was jealous, I would have never wanted you to lose that relationship with him. You were right, as always, Henderson. Eddie was a good guy—weird, but good. I understand now why you two got along so well, and I know this doesn’t make up for him being gone, but I hope it helps.”

So assuming that this isn't just some stupid mistake (it probably is tbh), this means that Eddie is apparently seventeen despite being held back at least twice.
But how could this be possible?
My headcanon is that Eddie was originally a gifted child who burnt out as he grew up...
Him being a seventeen-year-old senior despite having been held back twice would make sense if he had skipped a few grades when he was younger.
