Also, wanted to unpack this more. The idea of Mileven being gay and Byler being straight is a meaningless concept because...

A) the whole story is set in an 80s context. It relies on Mike's internalized homophobia and his pressure to conform in that context. If Mileven was gay, it wouldn't have developed in the way it developed. They would have been friends (even if Mike had feelings for Male El), and I guarantee most Milevens wouldn't ship it. And the themes of the show would be very different in that case.

B) Technically though, that hypothetical situation would pretty comfortably make Mike bi, so if he dated female Will in that situation, it wouldn't be lgbtq erasure. It would just be bisexuality.

C) The entire dynamic of Mileven vs. Byler also relies on Will being Mike's childhood friend. The whole childhood friends to lovers trope. They have that shared history, shared chemistry that Mileven simply don't and can't (no offense to them- it's literally impossible, even if you believe in romantic Mileven, since El hasn't been Mike's friend since Kindergarten. Mileven fits more of the "love at first sight" trope which the writers explictly rejected). It's not just a surface level queer vs. straight thing. So pushing aside all that, I'd ship Mileven in this case since it would simply be the deeper, truer dynamic.
