Today I went to a birthday party and met this 11 year old girl and aah she was so cute! She wanted to talk to me all the time and asked me stuff like when I started putting on makeup and what my favourite colour is and how school was for me. Whenever I told her she listened and seemed so excited about me telling her what I experienced.

I loved talking to her! I felt like her aunt that tells her all the cool girly stuff and that someone that she looks up to.

She really makes me want to have a daughter someday!! Aah

This lamp has a story behind it. It is more than fifty years old as I have known it. So may be it is older. It is what we call down here in South India Nachiar Vilakku. They normally come in pairs. Almost every household has at least one. This pair has seen three households including mine. They have borne witness to the ups and downs of all three. While they have been lit in times of birth, celebrations, illness and death they have more importantly been lit for courage and wisdom to see them through all the stages with equanimity. They have seen souls come before them and pass on through them. They carry the weight of human expectations, aspirations, fear, sadness, joy and ecstasy of three generations that I know of. The soft glow has not diminished one bit and continues to inspire and instill confidence in my household. Let us try. That is in our hands. The persistence. The patience. Gardening is all about waiting. My mango sapling is showing signs of distress. I have tried to address it and I hope it recovers. It comes from a special batch of mangoes all the way from Hyderabad from a friend who has since moved to America. It is a year old. The memories of a warm friendship born out of mutual respect and trust.
