the newest Helluva Boss was actually pretty decent & enjoyable, but the reworking of the narrative to paint Striker as a bigoted “supremacist” gives off some pretty uncomfortable classist undertones. We’ve seen Stolas abuse imps multiple times before (infantilization of Blitzø, using them as servants, treating an imp like a stress ball in Seeing Stars, etc.), yet we are being led to believe that he is completely innocent & Striker only hates him because of his race?? Feels weird to paint the guy who is validly upset at the mistreatment of his race as the racist villain & the privileged upper class guy who consistently abuses said race as the hero. I don’t like that at all.

#it’d be one thing if Stolas was actually innocent & Striker was just judging him off of his own biases which- still would fall flat as a #criticism since it isn’t addressing the larger systemic issue of class but like. i see the intention “don’t judge people off #their class but instead judge them for their character!!” but Stolas IS a classist character!! perhaps not intentionally so #(in fact i think Stolas not being aware of his biases is a more realistic depiction of racism/classism) but the narrative doesn’t address #that!!
