“I thought you were helping me with the morning feeding?” “Stevie! I am helping!” With his free hand, Eddie motions to the gaggle of animals clamoring for their attention. “You’re making another Tiktok video. That’s not helping.” Steve sighs but his lips pull up in a hint of a smile. Jabbing a finger into Steve’s side to make him yelp and skitter away, Eddie taps the record button and grins at the camera on his phone, “Hey-howdy-hey folks! Welcome to another beauuu-ti-ful morning here at Homesteddie Farms! Say hi to the farm fans, Steve.” Steve huffs a breath, before shaking his head and saying in a fond tone, “Hey farm fans!” Then he grunts out an 'oof' as one of the goats stands up on it’s hind legs, head butts Steve in the thigh and begins to nibble on the raggedy bottom of his cut off overall shorts. “Madmartigan! Get down.”
Thanks to the mods at the @strangerthingsreversebigbang for making this entire process run so smoothly and running this event so successfully!

Secrets- Steve Harrington x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Your best friend, Robin, sets you and Steve up on dates with two of her friends. The only problem? The two of you are already dating. Words: 2.3k Warnings: SMUT (18+, minors dni), p in v sex, fingering, car sex, unprotected sex, jealous reader
You stepped out of Family Video, locking the door behind you and relaxing as you, Steve and Robin all climbed into his car. It was rare for all three of you to work together but with it being a Saturday and Top Gun just being released on video, the store had been swarming all day. You were just glad the day was finally over. ‘So you’re both off work tomorrow right?’ Robin asked and you could tell by the tone of her voice that she wasn’t just asking out of curiosity. ‘Yeah, well I am and I’m pretty sure Steve is, why?’ You ask. Of course, you knew Steve wasn’t working tomorrow but you didn’t Robin to question why you knew that. ‘So I was talking to some friends from the band and some of them admitted to having crushes on both of you so I kind of set up dates for the two of you.’ You whip around to face her in the backseat. ‘Absolutely not.’ You stated, point blank. ‘Yeah, I’m not really interested either, Robin.’ Steve said as he drove along. ‘Look, you’ve both been single for so long and it’s just one date plus I’ve arranged for you both to go to the diner so if things go badly you can help each other out.’ ‘What if one of our dates goes well and the other bad?’ Steve asks as you glare at him. ‘You can figure that out amongst yourselves.’ Robin said as Steve pulled up in front of her house. ‘Anyway, it’s already been arranged so you both have to go, bye.’ She said running out of the car before either of you could protest. You waited until she was inside her house before turning around and facing Steve. ‘’What if one of our dates goes well and the other bad’ what the hell Steve?’ You yell, glaring at him. ‘Well, it was a valid question.’ He smirked at you. ‘No, it wasn’t, especially since neither of us are single.’ You cross your arms over your chest and flop back on the chair. ‘Sorry babe, but you know we can’t tell anyone.’ Steve leaned over to kiss you and you reluctantly kissed back. You and Steve had been dating for a few months at this point but the reason no one knew was because Keith had put in place a strict no-dating coworkers policy. You had considered switching jobs at one point but as you would be leaving in a few months for college so you decided to just keep it secret. ‘So what are we doing tomorrow?’ You ask, sitting back in your seat as Steve starts the drive to his house. ‘Going on these dates. Robin’s not going to leave it so we may as well go.’ He says. ‘Steve Harrington, are you telling me you want to go on a date with another girl?’ You ask glaring at him. ‘No, it’s just that you know how Robin is about us dating. She’s obsessed with our love lives.’ He shrugs, while you cross your arms over your chest and pout. ‘But I want to spend my day off with my boyfriend, not some boring guy.’ You whine. ‘I know, I want to spend the day with you too. I tell you what I’ll drop you off at home an hour before the date and we’ll go home together so we can spend as much time together.’ Steve says reaching over and rubbing your knee. You let out a small noise of frustration. ‘Fine but you're dropping me off half an hour before, it’s not like I’m going to put effort into how I look.’ ‘Okay, half an hour.’ Steve nods, grabbing your hand and bringing it up to his lips and giving it a kiss.
You rolled your eyes as you heard a car horn beep from outside your house. You were glad the guy Robin had chosen for you couldn’t even be bothered to come to the door. You run out your front door, climbing into the passenger seat of the car. ‘Hey.’ He smiles at you. He was cute but compared to Steve he may as well be a bridge troll. In your eyes, no guy would ever be able to live up to Steve. ‘Hi.’ You said giving a closed-lipped smile. You just wanted to get this over with so you could go home and cuddle with Steve. The car ride to the diner was filled with idle conversation. You weren’t really putting your heart into it. To be honest you did feel slightly bad for this guy. He was being set up with someone he definitely had no chance with. Once you arrived at the diner, you immediately spotted Steve sitting in a booth with Robin’s friend. He smiled at you as you walked in, and you smiled back, sitting in a booth facing towards Steve. From where you were sat you couldn’t see the girl's face but you could see Steve who was nodding along to whatever the girl was saying. You felt a pang of jealousy go through you as you watched Steve smile at something the girl said. You knew it was just his polite smile but still, it wasn’t fun watching someone else flirt with your boyfriend. ‘Y/N.’ The guy you were with, Leo you think his name was, said, snapping you out of your thoughts. You made a noise of acknowledgement. ‘Do you want to share a milkshake?’ He asked you, a light blush on his cheeks. ‘Umm, no. I have a thing about germs.’ You lie. You were completely uninterested in doing anything romantic with this guy.
You had hardly listened to a word this guy had said the entire date. You were too busy glaring at the back of Steve’s date head as she made continuous advances towards your boyfriend. You slowly ate a fry watching as she tried to reach over the table and grab Steve’s hand. He pulled his hand off the table slowly and glanced over at you, seeing you staring at him. He made a small movement with your head, telling you to pay attention to your date but you didn’t listen. Instead, you were just making small noises of acknowledgement to whatever he was saying. You knew it wasn’t the girl you were angry at, you were angry about the situation. Angry that she could go on a public date while you had to keep your relationship hidden but still you weren’t able to control your jealousy. You watched as Steve paid for the meal, politely helping the girl put on her coat so they both could leave. You watched her as she twirled a piece of hair around her finger, clearly waiting for Steve to make a move. Steve stood there awkwardly, you couldn’t hear what he was saying but you knew could vaguely make out it was something about being up early. She clearly didn’t take the hint because she started to lean in, moving to kiss Steve. Steve immediately dodged the kiss but it was too much for you. You grabbed your purse out of your bag, throwing some money on the table and mumbling something about having to go. You grabbed your stuff, storming over to Steve with an extremely angry look on your face. ‘Look, Steve is my boyfriend, not yours. So back off because you don’t have a chance.’ You don’t give the girl a chance to respond, grabbing Steve’s hand and pulling him out of the diner in the direction of his car. You heard him laughing slightly as the two of you walk out and you turn around and glare at him. ‘It’s not funny, Steve.’ You pout as he tries to stifle another laugh. ‘It is a little bit funny.’ He smiles, wrapping his arms around you. ‘No, it’s not, we’re you not jealous at all?’ You don’t hug him back, crossing your arms and pouting. ‘Not particularly considering you were looking at me the entire time.’ He smiles down pressing a kiss to your head but you were still fuming. You uncrossed your arms, reaching up and wrapping them around his neck, pulling his mouth down to yours in a hard kiss. He kisses you back just as hard, his hands gripping your waist tightly. ‘Back of the car.’ You mumbled, pulling away slightly. Steve nodded, walking over to the car and unlocking the back door, and climbing in. You also climb in, straddling his lap and kissing him again. His hands move down, gripping your ass under the skirt you were wearing. You started to grind against him as you moved your mouth down to kiss along his neck and jaw, sucking marks as you do. ‘Marking your territory, huh?’ Steve laughs breathily. You pull your head up and look at him with a smile on your face. ‘Just making sure people know you’re taken.’ You say moving your hand down to rub him through his jeans. He lets out a moan as you palm him slightly, feeling yourself get wet as you watch him moan beneath you. ‘Fuck, I need to be inside of you.’ He whines out. You smile and lean down, pressing a kiss against his lips before undoing his jeans and pushing them down his hips slightly to expose his cock. You spit on your hand and start to pump up him while he moves his hand under your skirt, pushing your underwear to the side and sliding a finger into you. You let out a moan as he fingers you, adding a second finger and stretching you apart. You press your face into his neck, gripping his wrist and pulling his hand away from you. You adjust yourself on his lap so you're positioned over his cock rubbing yourself on him slightly before pushing down groaning as you feel him fill you up. You slowly start to bounce on his cock, lifting your head up and kissing him. Steve started to thrust up into you, matching your pace, letting out small groans as he did so. You placed your hands on his shoulders, using that to balance yourself as you speed up, moaning as Steve's hands move back to your ass, gripping hard. ‘Steve, you feel so good inside me.’ You whine out as you continue to fuck yourself on him, your orgasm approaching faster than it normally did. Steve could tell you were nearing your orgasm and moved his hand to rub on your clit, making you cry out as you squeezed around him. You bury your face into his neck, biting down as you cum, muffling your moans in his neck. Steve keeps thrusting into you as you came, your own movements slowing down. He thrusts into you a few more times before coming deep inside you were a moan of his own. You slowly pull off him, before dropping your entire body weight on him, cuddling up to him as he stroked your hair. ‘We should probably get going.’ Steve tells you and you make a small noise, not moving off his lap. ‘Come on, baby. We can cuddle back at my place.’ He presses a kiss to the side of your head as you let out a small groan, climbing off his lap and flopping down across the back seat. Steve laughs slightly and gets out of the back seat climbing in the driver’s seat.
‘You have to come in with me Steve, there is no way I’m facing her alone.’ You say turning to him. It was the next day and Steve was dropping you off at your shift at Family Video where you were working with Robin. ‘But she’ll be so much nicer to you.’ He sighs. ‘No, she won’t and besides, you’re meant to support me in anything.’ ‘Fine.’ Steve gives in. You both get out of the car and walk into the store, seeing Robin standing there with her arms crossed, glaring at the both of you. ‘You two want to tell me something?’ She asks with a pissed-off tone. ‘Umm, yeah so I guess you heard about last time.’ You smile slightly at her, rubbing the back of your neck awkwardly. ‘Yeah, I heard about last night! I don’t know if I’m more pissed that you two embarrassed me in front of my friends or that you didn’t tell me that you were dating.’ She yells, fuming as she paces back and forth. ‘Well, you know about Keith’s no dating rule so we had to keep it hidden.’ Steve points out. ‘Okay, well you could’ve at least told me. I thought we were best friends.’ Robin says, her face softening and sadness entering your eyes. You wanted to go over and give her a hug but you were pretty sure she would punch you. ‘We wanted to but Robin let’s be honest, you’re kind of terrible at keeping a secret.’ Steve tells her. ‘I am not. I could keep this secret.’ ‘Robin, we’re sorry for not telling you but we were just worried so we kept it to ourselves but we should’ve told you because you’re our best friend and we certainly shouldn’t have agreed to go on those dates.’ You said, trying to look as sweet as possible. ‘I’m still angry at you but I guess I understand.’ Robin mumbles. ‘I don’t expect you to forgive us anytime soon.’ You smile at her. ‘Yeah, well I might forgive you faster if you tell me some embarrassing shit about Steve.’ She smiles at you. ‘Hey!’ Steve says offended. ‘Yeah, yeah, we’ve got work Harrington so say goodbye to your girlfriend.’ Robin tells him. ‘Fine, I’ll let you get to work’ Steve says, before turning to you. ‘I’ll see you later, babe.’ ‘See you.’ You say giving him a hug as he presses a kiss to the side of your head. He pulls away from you and waves at Robin before walking out of the store as you look at him with love in your eyes.

Blood and Pain by Carerra_os (1/1 | 1,583 | Teen+)
Billy and Steve are soulmates, they don't find that out till they fight.
-
It kind of feels like being punched in the gut, seeing Nancy’s neat scrawl on the inside of Jonathan's arm, the exact same scrawl Steve saw on her bare arm just a few moments ago. Jonathan and Nancy both look guilty, at least, but it does not make it any easier. Steve thought she was safe, thought she was like him, that she did not have a soulmate, and it hurts, finding out different. Steve has always been good at ignoring though, at pushing down his own feelings and putting on a good face for others, and now is no different.
warnings: blood & injury, canon typical violence
Origin of Love by TaytheBae (1/1 | 4,168 | Teen+)
Billy Hargrove was an asshole. But it wasn’t his attitude that stopped Steve dead in his tracks during basketball practice two days after Billy’s arrival to Hawkins. They were playing shirts and skins, and without a care in the world, Billy ripped off his shirt. Along with revealing miles of tanned skin and firm muscles, Steve saw a faded red mark right above Billy’s navel that seemed to resemble the sun. While it wouldn’t seem unusual to anyone else, Steve couldn’t take his eyes away from the little red splotch. -
Steve never knew what the red sun-shaped mark right above his bellybutton was for. Not until he met Billy Hargrove.
Lips to Lips, Scars to Scars by lostnoise (1/1 | 7,491 | Mature)
From the soulmates prompt, #15: the one where every lie your soulmate tells you appears on your skin.
His parents have to sit him down and tell him what it means - not the words themselves, but what it means that they showed up at all on his skin. That there’s someone out there waiting for him. That he should pay attention to what kind of person his soulmate is.
Because only their lies will show up on his arm.
warnings: implied/referenced child abuse, temporary character death, period typical homophobia
Tall Tales and Fairy Rings by lostnoise (1/1 | 1,394 | General)
The Harrington Estate sits upon the edge of Hawkins Forest, acres and acres of wooded land. Steven, heir to Lord Harrington, is sixteen when he starts exploring the lands of his father and forefathers.
Growing up, he’s hears all the stories about the types of creatures, things, that live in the forest. He’s heard of kelpies living in streams and wayward ponds; he’s heard of trolls who stalk through the forest looking for their next meal; he’s even heard of werewolves, men who change at will, men who must change under the full moon, taking residence up in their forests.
Of all the creatures and tales Steven has been told, the very last he expects to find, at the base of the thickest tree at the very heart of the forest, is a fairy ring.

In other words, a soulmate au where whatever is drawn on one soulmate, appears on the other. Plenty of mutual pining and the Steve & Barb friendship for the ages.

/“On your 18th birthday, on your wrist will appear the first words your soulmate will ever say to you.”/
And they always say it like that: “will ever say.” Not has said. Because it’s practically unheard of that you would have met your soulmate- your literal twin flame or whatever- before that. Which is why, Steve is staring at the words on his wrist in absolute shock because either he’s heard this a million times or he’s heard it very specifically once and he doesn’t know which one it is.

Lit up like a match by nagdabbit (1/1 | 4,043 | General)
And then in swooped Lillian fucking Hargrove. Lillian with sun lightened curls and miles and miles of tanned skin. Lilly with a fight in her belly and a fire in her eyes. Billy with a mean right hook and permanent bruises that Steve was too late to identify. Billy who didn't seem to know soft or sweet or kind. Who didn't seem to know what to do with Steve, so she settled for hating him instead.
On a Friday night, in a Chicago dive, Steve meets a familiar face.
Keep me in your glow by nagdabbit (1/1 | 1,770 | General)
He was a face in a crowd, and usually he could remember that. Usually he could find comfort in that. That there was a whole world spinning on, and it didn’t revolve around him.
But some days, someone would go out of their way to let Billy know just what they thought of him. A stranger with a cruel, twisted face would come right up and spit insults and curses at him that left his hands shaking and eyes burning with a fear that he’d thought he’d left back in Hawkins
Sometimes people are dicks, and Steve makes it better by rambling.

Ever After Inc. was a small family-owned business that dealt in organizing and facilitating fairy tale Happily Ever Afters for their clients. Owned by the Harringtons, they've built a reputation for themselves over the years in using the tiny bit of magic they have to look at a person and put them in just the right place at the right time to make good things happen for them. Their most famous service was being able to unite soulmates. As their tagline said, "It's not chance, and it's not just fate. It's Ever After." (And then came the harp that started their trademark jingle.)
Steve gets hired to find a soulmate for Princess Nancy. He tries his best, and everything works out. Rated T for some swears.

When Steve was fifteen, he received a parchment, just like every fifteen-year-old did. It was about the size of a half a sheet of notebook paper, and he knew that if he pressed an inky thumbprint to it, it would reveal one simple word that would be associated heavily with his soulmate -- sometimes it was a name, sometimes an eye color, sometimes an important object to that person, or the first word they’d say to you. Sometimes there was no word at all, for those who were meant to be happiest with no romantic partner.
“Here goes nothin,” he said, and pressed his inked thumb to the parchment. His stomach swooped low and nervous as he waited for the word to form, terrified for several seconds that it might actually remain blank, but then a word appeared in faint ink and grew darker, eventually turned vivid and black in front of him.

If it Keeps on Rainin', Levee's Goin' to Break by shocked_into_shame (1/1 | 10,255 | Explicit)
In a world where soulmates only know they are soulmates until they kiss and the bond is sealed, Steve is afraid that he's never going to meet his missing piece.
And there's no way in hell that Billy - who makes Steve's blood boil day in and day out - could possibly be that missing piece.
No way.

He knows his reputation isn't the best, but he's never messed around when it comes to his heart.
Before she died, his Ma spoke to him all the time about what having a soulmate meant. But he's seen what happens when your soulmate dies and he doesn't want his. Not if it means he's going to turn into his old man. Or try to make a pretend, happy family with someone else who's lost their soulmate too.
He was doing just fine until they uprooted and replanted themselves in Hawkins. His pendant never changed temperature until they got closer and closer to this shitty little town.
He absolutely ignored the prickling it caused underneath his skin the night at Tina's Halloween party. It's been months.

“Did you even like me before you found out I was your soulmate?” Billy murmurs as he kisses a line down Steve’s throat. It bobs a little under his lips as Steve swallows, and Billy can feel Steve’s fingers digging into his hips, but he isn’t pushing him away.
“I don’t even like you now,” Steve says, but it’s a little too breathless, a little too much of a lie. Billy looks at him, and presses a careful kiss to the bruise on Steve’s jaw.
Steve’s eyes are dark, and he isn’t pushing Billy away.
Billy bites down on Steve’s ear, murmurs into it, “Liar.”

You're ripped at every edge (but you're a masterpiece) by BarbarianBillyHargrove (1/1 | 4,445 | Teen+)
When Billy showed up on the Byer’s doorstep, Steve watched with a red haze as he contemplated what it meant. His first soul match had failed- or was on the way there. And his second appeared to be a mistake. He’d heard stories of one-sided soul bonds, they were messy and ended only with disaster. This is what Steve thought about when purple blended with red and he lost consciousness to his potential soulmate’s fists.

There Are Worse Things I Could Do

He couldn’t stop the obnoxious giggle that spilled out from his lips as he curled further into the couch. The joint had long since been burnt out, though it was still dangling limply from between his fingers.
Her eyes peeled open and searched the room for a moment before landing on the laughing heap of boy, who was now tucked into the opposite corner of the couch with his head propped back against the cushions.
Robin shifted in her spot, pulling herself up into a sitting position. As she moved to pull her foot out from underneath herself, using more force than was necessary, her leg suddenly went flying, kicking into Steve’s shin. The action stopped his giggling fit for a moment before their eyes locked on one another and a second fit of laughter broke out.
“Well excuse the hell out of me! I didn’t know you were a ninja!” Steve was barely able to get the words out as he tried to suck in a deep breath, a failed attempt at calming his laughter.
“No Stevie, I’m the spy, I’m not the ninja”. With an over exaggerated sigh, as if she were explaining the most obvious thing in the world, she leaned over, laying her head against Steve’s shoulder.
Slowly but surely their laughter died down, the only sound in the room being that of the radio that was playing softly by the door. With a lazy smile, Steve laid his head against Robin’s, his hair falling slightly into his eyes with the movement.
It had been months since ‘The Incident’. Nine months and three weeks, to be exact. But who was counting? Steve sure as hell wasn’t. Not on this night. His parents had once again left for one of his dad’s business trips, a promise of “be back soon!” still hanging in the back of his mind. When was soon, exactly? Would it be in the morning, before he had time to clean the house back up? Was ‘soon’ still days away? At this point, it didn’t matter to him. Not much did.
Steve glanced down at the table in front of the couch to where he had left his lighter. A small, now almost empty, container sat beside it. This was the only way Steve could find an escape now. So many thoughts and memories flooded his mind, and the only way he could put an end to it was through smoking. It made him feel weightless, like the world wasn’t quite literally falling apart around him.
It made the nightmares stop.
At least when he was high, he didn’t have to think about all of the things he had been through, everything he had to do to try to save his friends, or the girl he loved. With the smell of smoke in the air, and his eyes taking on a glossy look, Steve was free.
“Hey, Dingus” Robin poked his side, her voice now soft. “You know what sounds like, the absolute best thing in the world right now? I bet you can’t guess.”
Steve was pulled from his thoughts and opened his eyes, when had he even closed them?, and looked down in the general direction of Robin. Her head was still tucked into the crook of his neck and he could feel her breath coming out in small puffs against his skin. He shivered slightly before he made a ‘hmm’ sound, his mind flipping through a list of ideas that could answer her question.
“A hotdog on a stick?” Steve’s eyes lit up as he said the first food that popped into his mind. Man, hotdog on a stick did sound great right now. “Or TWO hotdogs on a stick!” The more he thought about it, the hungrier he got. Hell, he wasn’t even sure what time it was anymore, he just knew he needed food right then.
“I was going to say Cheetos but your idea sounds so much better!”
Robin sat up, the top of her head almost cracking into Steve’s chin at how quickly she moved. The boy flinched slightly in surprise before he broke into a grin, his eyes locking onto hers once more.
This is what happiness felt like. It felt like getting excited about food with your best friend. It was the way Robin’s eyes crinkled in the corners when she smiled at him like he was the smartest person she knew - which he knew probably wasn’t true, but man it was nice to feel like it was.
Happiness was not worrying about the kids getting attacked. It was not having to constantly watch everyone around him, preparing for someone to come grab him and pull him off to God knows where to be questioned again.
Those moments were rare. The moments when the panic didn’t set in. When he didn’t feel his chest tightening, as if a hand was physically forcing the air out of his lungs. The times when he wasn’t afraid of what might be waiting around the corner, or hiding in the shadows of backyard.
Even in their current state, it was like Robin could still sense the uneasiness of his mind that had threatened to break through again. She quickly reached up, running her fingers through his hair as she swept it back out of his face. Her efforts were met with the wide, bright eyes of the older boy and she simply smirked back at him. “We can’t go get food if you look like a troll doll, Stevie.”
“Oh what, you didn’t think that was a good look? I think I pulled it off pretty well!” As if to prove a point, Steve gave a shake of his head causing the dark locks to fall back into his face, only this time his eyes were blocked.
“You look like a mop.” Robin laughed as she stood up from the couch, swaying slightly as she got to her feet. “Come on, we’ve gotta go find food or I might actually die.”
Steve gave a small huff and pushed his hair back into place before he hopped up after her. Robin had already started off down the hall, fingertips just barely brushing against the wall as if she were using the feeling to help steady herself. Just as she disappeared around the corner and into the kitchen, Steve started to move after her.
Passing by the doors that led out back, Steve paused for the briefest of moments, his eyes scanning the backyard for any signs of something lurking out there in the darkness. He was pulled from the search by a loud thud, followed by Robin poking her head back out around the corner. “Hey Harrington, this ice cream isn’t going to scoop itself, get in here!”
Sparing a final glance outside, Steve made his way to the kitchen, once again focused on the idea of food.
His dad would be pissed if he saw him like this, high as a kite with someone else in the house. But the truth was, that was the only way he could handle being there.
He was scared.
Steve Harrington, once the King of Hawkins High, was now terrified.
He had been through so much, had lost so much, that the only way to make it stop was to dull his senses. And well, there were plenty of worse things he could do than hang out with his best friend. Because even if she didn’t admit it, she was just as scared as he was. An escape from reality was exactly what they needed.

Axe to the Heart: Chapter 7
Astrid Hofferson/Steve Harrington. “Maybe I hate a lot of things here in Hawkins but I suppose you’re not one of them.”
Chapter 6
“Took you long enough,” Harrington said, shifting and trying to stand up. Hopper rolled his eyes as she helped him up, letting him lean on her.
“I was putting Jane to bed, she was way too nervous for the dance tomorrow. Flo told me you’d been calling urgently. Now, how did that gash happen, and how -” He turned his gaze at Astrid then. “Did you get tangled up in all this?”
She opened her mouth to answer -
And then closed it again.
It wasn’t a good idea to answer when the answer was that she had stolen a picture from a police file. She didn’t want to lose her internship. But then again, this was a whole lot more important than any non paying job. Her and Harrington had nearly died.
So, as Harrington started to say “It was my fau -” she jabbed him in the arm and looked the police chief in the eye, took a deep breath, and spoke.
“I was fed up of you heading out whenever someone called in a complaint and never bringing me along, even though that’s what you’re supposed to do, as my mentor.” Attempting to keep the bitterness out of her voice, she continued. “I swiped a file off your desk, it was Barbara Holland’s.”
“Jesus,” Hopper muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose “listen, kid, this isn’t some petty police case. This is a -”
“A fight against an interdimensional monster?” Astrid asked dryly, raising a brow. “Yeah, I pieced that together, thanks.”
“You have no idea what we’re up against.”
“Actually, she does,” Harrington (Steve?) interrupted. “She saw it. She fought it.” There was a relatively nice amount of awe in his voice. “She stabbed it.” Before Hopper could respond to that, he continued, “But I thought they should have died when - what’s her name? Eleven - when Eleven closed the gate.”
“It’s Jane,” he responded, and even though Astrid had absolutely no clue who they were talking about (the chief’s daughter?), she nodded. “And yeah, they should have. But I guess this is an exception. We’ll ask the kids.”
“I cannot believe our main source of information is a bunch of middle schoolers.”
She vaguely remembered seeing Harrington (Steve, wasn’t he on first name basis now that they had kissed?) after school with kids who looked to be half his age. Middle schoolers weren’t half his age, but she was close enough. And no offense to them - she didn’t even know who they were - but she really needed to understand everything before getting any new information.
“So that thing is from another dimension. Great. How do you kill it?”
“It’s full size?” Hopper looked at Steve - Harrington - Steve for confirmation, and he nodded, at which Hopper clicked his tongue. “Well, shit. I could shoot the smaller ones, but the only time one of the big ones was killed was when Jane did it.”
She saw Har - Steve - oh, whatever the fuck his name was - bite his lip, so she responded for him. “Well, if this Jane can kill it, then let’s get her to!”
“Jane is not getting involved!” Hopper shouted, glaring at her. “She already -”
“Oh, do not do that!” Astrid narrowed her eyes and pointed. “Don’t you dare yell at me like I’m being insensitive! I have no idea who you’re even talking about! Don’t shout as though I understand! I don’t!”
“Then maybe you shouldn’t have gotten involved!”
“Then maybe you should have been a better mentor!”
“Alright!” Steve yelled, squeezing her arm gently. “Listen. So...so Ele - Jane can’t be involved. Can’t we just hit it with the axe a few more times?”
There was a pause where her and Hopper continued to glare daggers at each other until he broke his gaze away and muttered, “It could work. I’ll take care of it.”
“No offense, but Hawkins doesn’t offer weapon training.” She clenched her fist. “So I’m going to guess you’ve never used an axe. And this thing is special. I am not giving it to you.”
“This isn’t a time to be sentimental, kid. Either you give me that or we die.”
Astrid grit her teeth. “Or option three, you use your gun, and I use the axe. I can take that thing.”
“That’s not an option.”
Harrington (Steve!) ran a hand through his hair (as unnecessarily as always). “Chief, she carried me here. If I would ask any teenager to face a monster like that, it’d be the axe wielding, strong as hell, resident viking.”
Astrid shot him a look, but Hopper relented at that. They couldn’t bring Harrington along, and it would be too cumbersome trying to sneak him back into his house with his leg’s condition, so they sat him in a chair and gave him the bat.
“Alright, Hofferson, let’s go.”
She turned to Harrington and leaned down, so they were eye level. “Hey. If that thing comes in here, don’t you hesitate. Beat the ever loving -”
“Fuck out of it. Got it.” He gave her a crooked grin. “You’re the one who should be careful, viking.”
“I will be.”
“Good.”
She kissed him again.
It didn’t last very long, it was barely three seconds in before Hopper shouted, “Let’s go, Hofferson!”
Astrid pulled away and noted that Steve had a bit of a dazed look, but there was no time to reflect on it, or for them to talk (or possibly make out and more - damn, her thoughts had gotten dirty really fast).
She followed Hopper out, closing the door to the shed. They walked in tense silence, and unlike before, there was no sound. It seemed that all form of life in the woods had simply vanished, scared off by the monster. Or maybe it had killed everything.
Astrid knew that was impossible, but she also knew that she didn’t really know what was possible or not anymore.
After a few minutes of torturous walking, Hopper finally said, “Listen, kid -”
“Forget it.” She glanced at him. “I’ll quit tomorrow.”
“You don’t need to do that.” He sighed. “I’ll...try, okay? There’s just been a lot of things I’ve been busy with lately…”
Astrid snorted, shaking her head. “No kidding. I’m guessing other dimensions and this Jane character swallow up a bit of your time.”
He opened his mouth to respond and then put his arm in front of her, and she saw why.
The monster was hunched over, its back to them, and it was clearly preying on something. There were blood droplets next to it, and as her and Hopper inched closer, she saw something that made her sick to her stomach.
It was the rabbit she had seen earlier.
Hopper raised his gun -
At the same time the monster turned its head and saw them.
Then many things happened at once.
It roared, showing its large amount of teeth, and Astrid roared too (it was more of a scream) as she ran forward, axe raised, screaming, “Son of a half troll rat eating -” and Hopper asked her just what the hell did she think she was doing. He asked loudly.
Just one more pierce to its stupid skin and -
The monster moved out of the way and Astrid slammed the axe into a tree.
She yanked as she heard gunshots, thinking that the thing was now facing the chief and she had to help him, but she was wrong,
Very wrong.
It was still facing her, and with a snarl it had her head slammed against the tree and her body slumped on the ground, axe stuck in the bark, jaws opening, Hopper shouting, “Son of a -” as he fired shot after shot -
Astrid shut her eyes tightly.
So much for avenging Barbara. She was about to join her.
And then there was a loud crash and she opened her eyes (a good five seconds after the crash, who knew, maybe dying sounded like crashing) and there was a car, and the monster was lying there, looking dead.
Then, out of all people, Nancy Wheeler came out of the car, yelling, “Go! To! Hell!” as she shot the monster with a gun.
Out of the driver’s seat came Jonathan Byers, holding up a lighter.
Astrid’s head spun.
The monster was dead. She tried to tell them, but everything hurt, especially her head, and words wouldn’t come out. They killed it a little more.
Hopper ran over to her, holding her head up and waving his hand in front of her face. He was multiplying. She heard them talking…
And talking…
Wheeler was looking concerned…
Byers was looking desperate…
Hopper was shouting…
And maybe it was a few seconds or an hour later, but Harrington was there too. Steve was there too.
But by that time, she could have been hallucinating.
Astrid didn’t know whether she threw up before she fainted, or after.
This was a really fun chapter to write. Me and my sister were brainstorming how the demogorgon was actually gonna die. :D

So I just saw Wonder Woman…
All right, let me start of by saying that I did not have high hopes for this movie…
Tumblr media
Hear me out!
The initial reviews of this movie that I saw came from Salon and The Mary Sue…
You know… these yellow journalists:
Back off, men—they’re scientists: New “Ghostbusters” trailer gets slimed by sexist trolls
The Ghostbusters Trailer Backlash Shows Men Believe in the Power of Representation (But Only When It Applies to Them)
Yeah… anything that they give a good review to usually has to be taken with a grain of salt, especially after the a for mentioned Ghostbusters reboot. Critics really can’t be taken all that seriously anymore.
Given all the controversy surrounding it, I was expecting this movie to be completely overrun with identity politics and social justice hypocrisy.
Then why did you go see it?
Well… because it’s Wonder Woman, she’s friggin’ boss! That’s why.
So what did I think of it? OH MY GOD, IT WAS AWESOME!!! The fighting was extremely well done, the history was very spot on, and the scenery was absolutely incredible.
The movie starts off in the mythical land of Themyscira, where Diana… is lives with the other Amazonian women in secret. She is trained to fight from a young age and  becomes the best warrior in all of the land. Her mother seriously wants to keep a secret from her, which we don’t find out about. Apparently the amazons were created to help herald peace and love, but as usual, humanity messes it up.
A pilot in a WW1 plane… rather randomly happens upon the island, crashing into the nearby water. He’s chased by… I believe a German destroyer and several boats. The amazons fight off the troops…
(Jury is still out on what happened to the destroyer… it kind of just vanished… It was listing pretty badly but… I dunno)
… and take the pilot prisoner. He eventually reveals that Germany is creating a new weapon to win the war before the armistice is signed. Diana sets sail with him, against her mother’s wishes, to aid in the fight. She absolutely believes that if she kills Aries, the war will end.
That’s about as much as I’m going to tell you about the plot… So let’s look at the gritty details:
Setting: This movie takes place in WW1 Europe, this is not a modern story, though the entire movie is a flashback thanks to a picture that Batman has delivered to Diana Prince. Very happy about this! Everything appears very accurate surrounding the war. The uniforms aren’t perfect and in some aspects look closer to WW2, but everything is in the right place. So no issue.
However… There are critics who rightly say that the movie should have taken place during WW2 as this is where the original story takes place. However I consider this a re-telling and if they want to start off in WW1, I’ll let that slide.
Casting: I love Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. I know a lot of people didn’t like the idea of her having an accent, but if you think about it… Wonder Woman is amazonian, not American (at least not at first). Thus making her a little more exotic isn’t uncalled for.
Steve Trevor was also well-cast and the character is portrayed very well. It was nice to see that the people who wrote the movie really did their homework with many of the characters.
Story: What can I say, it’s awesome and there are definitely some twists and turns that are unexpected.
History:
Like I said, it’s portrayed pretty well. I a couple of articles  that talk about the accuracy of the women’s armor. The costumes for WW1 weren’t perfect, as I said, but they were close enough.
One other piece that I would like to mention… Dr. Maru’s face:
Tumblr media
I’ve heard some people complain about this and frankly, I don’t understand why. It may look cheap and kind of dumb… but again, it’s historically accurate. People who had severely disfiguring facial injuries did actually have coverings made for them:
So again, bravo to the movie. They got that one right.
The Villain: Aries, the God of War is the primary villain here. Wonder Woman believes that if she kills him, it’ll end the war, all war. However in a very well-written twist, Aries reveals that he isn’t starting the wars. He is simply putting the tools into humanities hands, helping them create new weapons. He may put the gun in their hands, but in the end, they’re the one pulling the trigger. This draws up the ethical question of just how responsible is Aries for all of the war and suffering?
So anything wrong with the movie that you want to point out?
Yes… as I said, I was worried about the insertion of identity politics into the movie, and I will grant you that there is some of that. The line ‘I wanted to be an actor, but I’m the wrong color’ feels kind of forced. The second line came from ‘the chief’ when he said that Steve Trevor’s people took everything from him. This one was a little bit more underplayed, but I think a little bit more explaining might have been in order.
That being said, it was two lines. I can live with that.
But Jim, what about the line where Diana says that men are good for procreation, but not so much for pleasure?
Meh. There’s an old saying that goes ‘no one loves you as much as your left hand.’ Put that into context, and Diana’s statement could go either way. So I chalk that up as a non-issue.
My only other issue is with the movie’s portrayal of the armistice. It’s really played up as a positive thing and the best chance that everyone has for peace… this is horribly inaccurate.
The armistice led to the Treaty of Versailles, which when placed into the context of the Franco-Prussian War and WW2, was little more than payback for the embarrassment that France suffered at the hands of Germany during the Franco Prussian War, and would be a prelude to WW2. The armistice, nigh the very end of WW1, was little more than a prelude to the reckoning that was soon to come.
Final Thoughts…
The movie was fantastic and I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who has not yet seen it.
In addition to that, Wonder Woman has, by virtue of existence, shown just how cancerous the far right and left political ideologues really are.
On the right, people complained about Gal Gadot’s casting, why?
Because she was Israeli, not American-born.
Because she was of Jewish descent.
Pretty bad right? However, the left didn’t treat her any better. In addition to body-shaming Wonder Woman out of the UN, the left objected to Gal Gadot’s casting because…
She was too thin…
She was cleanly shaven.
In addition, they complained about her outfit… despite being more conservative than other incarnations.
Finally, some theaters set up women-only viewings of the movie and people on the left mocked those who took issue with it… despite the fact that it was a violation of Constitution Civil Rights, something the Social Justice Left claims to fight for.
So without even really doing anything, Wonder Woman patriotically showed us how cancerous the right wing extremists, the religious fundamentalists, the regressive left, and the Social Justice Warriors actually are.
That alone makes her a hero in my book.
So in summation… forget the idiocy, forget the politics, go see the movie and have a good time. Wonder Woman is a hero for the ages and is someone both men and women of all walks of life and enjoy… and it was a major thrill to introduce my son to her!
