I'm sick, and yet my mom had to make me stay home from school rather than me stayinghome willingly. The entire time I've been home, I've been stressed about the things I'm missing in classes. I haven't been able to relax or focus because I'm too worried I'll miss something important in school.

This is the American education system.

I SHOULD NOT BE STRESSING OVER WHAT I'M MISSING IN CLASS BECAUSE I'M SICK. I SHOULD NOT BE WANTING TO GO TO SCHOOL KNOWING I NEED TO BE RESTING. I SHOULD BE RELAXING AND FOCUSING ON GETTING BETTER TODAY NOT WORRYING ABOUT MY SCHOOL WORK.

I still remember when I was younger, I would do anything to stay home. I'd cough twice the morning of school and beg my mom to let me stay home sick. I would rejoice when I got to miss school for appointments. Now all I do when I miss school is worry about the lessons I'm missing. I worry about getting behind. I feel like shit and fall asleep hours before usual and my mom has to force me to stay home.

What happened? School happened. In elementary school they made it fun, you did fun activities every day, and it was never stressful. In high school is hours of homework every night, it's entire units/chapters gone over in two weeks. It's constant stress and lectures, rarely fun activities.

This is not how it should be. I shouldn't dread going to school but then stress when I have to stay home.
