“I will burn the session to the ground over this bill.”
The bill in question: “The Nebraska bill and another that would ban trans people from using bathrooms and locker rooms or playing on sports teams that don’t align with the gender listed on their birth certificates are among roughly 150 bills targeting transgender people that have been introduced in state legislatures this year.”
Senator Cavanaugh’s efforts have delayed the bill.
Keep up the good fight Sen. M. Cavanaugh

Went to my first rally last week in opposition of Alabama Senate Bill 129! It was definitely an interesting experience. We’ll keep fighting despite the bill getting passed!
I haven’t gotten the chance with witness the front lines of these movements until now, mostly out of fear but also, admittedly, laziness. It was definitely angering to physically talk to a rep from my home town, have him agree with me, then see him vote yes for the bill in a perfect party split. It was even more disappointing when I called him out in an email, only for him to repeat the same talking points back at me while disregarding me pouring my heart out in defense of myself and my friends. He’s supposed to represent me and he didn’t. I plan to stick around as long as I can, though. One day we’ll replace them, I’m just hoping we survive that long. They can’t get rid of all of us.

Providence police officer Jeann Lugo was acquitted of a simple assault charge on Wednesday in District Court, Warwick.
Judge Joseph T. Houlihan said that during an abortion rights rally at the State House on the night of June 24, Lugo, then a Republican candidate for state Senate District 29, "approached [a] disturbance out of concern for the public order." Houlihan said Lugo and Jennifer Rourke, who was then his Democratic rival for the Senate seat, were "pressed forward by the crowd" when it surged and a "melee" ensued.
At the time, Houlihan said Lugo was attempting to go after an unidentified man in a green jacket who punched another man who was agitating protestors, identified as Josh Mello. Houlihan said Rourke held Lugo back, and the court accepted that Lugo was attempting to stop more violence.
"He has a duty to maintain the public order," Houlihan said, describing the "potential for further violence" as "imminent."
Houlihan added that the court could speculate that Lugo should have identified himself as a police officer, which he did not do despite claiming he intended to make an arrest, yet the situation unfolded "in a scant few seconds" – an argument the defense had made repeatedly.
Overall, the court did not see Lugo's conduct as unreasonable.
Leaving the courtroom, Lugo hugged a woman and left quickly without much comment to the media other than thanks for the coverage.
Lugo's attorney, Dan Griffin, said he was "very, very happy" about the verdict.
"He never should have been arrested in the first place," Griffin said, describing Lugo as "a kid who wanted to serve the city" and was "railroaded."
The verdict concludes a trial during which Griffin contended his client was acting within the bounds of police policy, which directs officers to act when they see a threat, even when off duty. However, that action, per section 202.2, could be as simple as calling for help from other officers.
In its decision, the court relied on footage showing that as Lugo jumped into the fray, Jennifer Rourke appeared to try to pull him back. Lugo eventually punched Rourke repeatedly.
Assistant Attorney General Daniel Carr Guglielmo staked his argument in part on Lugo's failure to identify himself as a police officer. But according to Middletown police Lt. David Bissonnette, a longtime use-of-force instructor, Lugo wasn't absolutely required to identify himself.
The adjudication of Lugo's case now clears the way for the Police Department to hold a separate hearing under the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights, which outlines a disciplinary process for officers accused of misconduct. Providence's chief of police, Col. Hugh Clements, recommended over the summer that Lugo be terminated. The hearing will determine whether he can keep his job.
In a statement released after the verdict, the Providence police union said the case "once again proves that we should not jump to conclusions of guilt or innocence when viewing one small piece of evidence."
"This kind of quick judgment destroys the morale and trust of officers," the union said. "In this case, the administration should have reserved judgment until all the facts and evidence were established."
Criticizing the city's current administration, the union contended that police "are used as pawns to further political agendas."
Conversely, the Black Lives Matter Rhode Island Political Action Committee released a statement in support of Rourke, saying "the justice system failed her, and we know at this time, her grief and trauma is indescribable."
"Today is a clear example of how policing in our state and capital city needs to be examined under heavy scrutiny," the group said. "To have an officer of the law, sworn to protect the rights of citizens in our community, attack a political figure exercising their right to free speech and public demonstration is a contradiction and stain on the validity of this officer’s employment and the Providence Police Department as a whole."

Less than three months after U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin and her colleagues launched an investigation into the four major American manufacturers of inhalers, three of the companies have relented, making commitments to cap costs for their inhalers at $35 for patients who now pay much more.
25 million Americans have asthma and 16 million Americans have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), meaning over 40 million Americans rely on inhalers to breathe.
Inhalers have been available since the 1950s, and most of the drugs they use have been on the market for more than 25 years.
According to a statement from the Wisconsin Senator’s office, inhaler manufacturers sell the exact same products at a much lower costs in other countries. One of AstraZeneca’s inhalers, Breztri Aerosphere, costs $645 in the U.S.—but just $49 in the UK. Inhalers made by Boehringer Ingelheim, GlaxoSmithKline, and Teva have similar disparities.
Baldwin and her Democratic colleagues—New Mexico Sen. Ben Ray Luján, Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey, and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders—pressured the companies to lower their prices by writing letters to GSK, Boehringer Ingelheim, Teva, and AstraZeneca requesting a variety of documents that show why such higher prices are charged in America compared to Europe.
As a ranking member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Baldwin recently announced that as a result of the letters they had secured commitments from three of the four to lower the out-of-pocket costs of inhalers to a fixed $35.00 rate.
“For the millions of Americans who rely on inhalers to breathe, this news is a major step in the right direction as we work to lower costs and hold big drug companies accountable,” said Senator Baldwin.
A full list of the inhalers and associated drugs can be viewed here.
It’s the second time in the last year that pharmaceutical companies were forced to provide reasonable prices—after the cost of insulin was similarly capped successfully at $35 per month thanks to Congressional actions led by the White House.

November’s here! Just here to say once again, don’t stop talking about Palestine! Never stop till Palestine is free! That a ceasefire comes! That Gaza gets all the humanitarian aid it deserves! Be thankful that some of us are able to live comfortably while thousands are facing death and destruction! Not just in Palestine, but in other places too! Congo faces devastation from armed militias looking to do coltan mining for one example! Armenians are being pushed out by Azerbaijan with the support of Turkey! Please, let’s speak for all of them, as much as we can!
I recently reblogged a post stating frustration over how it seems situations like these seem to turn into fads to say without doing anything. I can go on and on about how sorry I am but that will not do anything productive unless I go out there and actually push for things myself!
So much is happening in the world! So many people are dying voiceless when there are people who can help! Who should help!
Let’s be their voices! Let their stories be heard! We have resources that they may not have right now! Utilize them!
Free Palestine! Stop the violence in Congo! Protect the Armenians!
Let’s keep fighting! 🇵🇸🇨🇩🇦🇲

Women, Young People, Black Folks--Every Vote MATTERS
Photo by Edmond Dantu00e8s on Pexels.com I get it. I do. If you want to get angry, get angry at the Republicans in power. They wanted to MAKE IT A DAMNED NUISANCE in hopes that fewer people would go to the polls. Historically, when fewer people go to the polls, their people generally win. It’s a form of voter suppression. They will try EVERY cheating method they can find. One of the things that…

Boss Janno Lieber says MTA will pressure LIRR unions after Post reveals waste
MTA Chairman Janno Lieber told lawmakers Monday he would urge the powerful Long Island Rail Road unions to reform labor codes after the Post exposed widespread waste and inefficiency at the agency that costs hundreds of millions of dollars a year. The contracts allow engineers to earn four times as much time in a standard eight-hour shift, and conductors earn double when working a train for a…

hey all
so in a more practical application of the "larp a republican if you're gonna call them" post that got huge, North Carolina is about to have abortion access slashed if nothing's done about it.
SB20 got passed and went up to Gov. Cooper who vetoed it, but there's very very slight veto-proof supermajority in the legislature. Unless at least one Republican breaks ranks the veto will be overridden.
I made a google doc to organize, and you don't have to be a North Carolinian to participate:
Even if you can't participate, please share. A lot of people might lose yet more of their rights very soon.

UNITED STATES SENATOR DOESNT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHINA AND SINGAPORE
📹 U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) questions the CEO of TikTok U.S., Shou Zi Chew, a Singaporian national, about his nationality and affiliations with the "Chinese Communist Party," an entity that does not actually exist.
Chew repeatedly states his nationality and history as a Singaporian, having served in the military, and mentions his loyalty to his home country before Senator Cotton begins ranting about the events of Tiananmen Square in 1989.
