Liv's Mindful Minute: Invitation to stop playing political dodge ball 🏀 I hated dodge ball. It's not a fun game. You have all the kids on the playing field playing against one another. Literally "taking each other out." At the end of the game there really are no winners. We all get bruised physically and emotionally. Even the winner is standing all by themselves and didn't work with their own team let alone the opposing team. This does not make a happy or healthy climate. I have observed a lot of political dodge ball recently. With both "sides" of the fence attacking each other. Balls get thrown back and forth. People, real live humans I love are getting hurt by other humans who I love and essentially both want the same thing...health, prosperity, and life for those they love ❤️. How can all this love so quickly turn to hate? There are extremists on both sides. Extremists will always be here. They will be forcing out their beliefs through fear. They will do so angrily, hatefully, and in the dark. They will only illicit a response from the other extreme and we as a population will get no where with them. This message is for the rest of us. The hard working people that do make this country great! Those of us who get up each morning worrying about what to have for breakfast, how our kids our doing in school, if we'll ever find the love of our life, and how we want this great nation to be. For all of us: both republicans and democrats here is my invitation to you. STOP playing political dodge ball. Be strong in your beliefs and open to discussion. Find those that align with you and come up with creative, non-violent, ways to make your issues and dream for this country realized. More importantly look at someone with an opposing view and find something good in them. You don't have to invite them over to dinner or be best friends but FIND the GOOD. How to do this: I know many of you have seen friends and family members comment negatively on something you believe. I know this has gotten under you skin and made you angry. 1 - Let it go. Anger will resolve this. 2 - Write their name on a piece of paper or make a mental note of 3 things you love about them. It can be anything: they make a good pie, they keep their yard clean, they always call on my birthday. If you can't think of three things your are A - not trying hard enough or B - that person should not be in your life in a way that influences you. They should not be your friend on Facebook. You can wish them well in the world and pray they "see the light" but don't let them fuel your hate. This is not to undermine what is at stake here: life, liberty, true freedom, choice but we have to stay above the fray. We can't go into the dismal abyss of anger and fear. We have to be better. Let us live in the light in which God created us. It is a rich luminous light that shines on issues that need to be addresses, solutions to be created, and hope where there is despair. Find truth, find life, find hope, create America the Beautiful. With love and grace, Liv
