Eldritch Sword

“Hey, Sky!”

Wild’s grinning face meets his gaze when he looks up from polishing the Master Sword. Then again, the sinking in his stomach already announced the champion’s presence. 

“What’s up?”  Please go away, please, I don’t want to feel ill again—

“Can I see the Master Sword?”

It’s instinct to clutch the sword to his chest. Wild is a hero; fought with his own version of the sword, but Fi is so new, now. His friend and companion. 

“She’s not a toy,” he grinds out, trying to loosen his grip. “Not for chopping wood and breaking rocks.”

“Sure,” Wild agrees easily. “But she’s so much younger when you have her! Mine didn’t ever really talk. I’d like to meet her.”

Still, Sky doesn’t hand it over. His stomach flips and spins, making regret well up for the extra helping he took at breakfast. 

“She belongs to everyone, Sky.” Twilight takes the kid’s side, because he’s the only one who doesn’t seem to mind the sickening energy radiating from the Champion. 

Wild grins again, looking eager. “I bet she’ll love meeting me now!”

Something about the wording has him on edge. “Now?”

“Oh, you know how it is,” Wild waves airily. “She didn’t want to come out of the stone at first. The sword wanted a strong hero!”

Or she didn’t want to come out at all. That far down in history, did she have a choice in being taken? Did Wild overpower her innate abilities? 

“…Sky?”

He’s waited too long, clutching the sword to his chest. “Right, sorry.” Reluctantly, he passes the sword to Wild. Behind them, Twilight watches with a frown. 

“Thanks!” The champion’s smile is strained at the delay and he steps back to pull the sword from the sheath. 

Unconsciously, Sky steps closer to match. The world spins slightly below his feet and he shuffles them, trying to find stability. 

Fi is unsheathed with a clear chime of polished steel. For an instant, nothing happens and Sky holds his breath. Wild’s smile is growing as he admires the blade. Then Sky’s stomach drops abruptly and Fi’s chime turns discordant and shrill. 

With a yelp, Wild drops the Master Sword. 

“Fi!” Sky rushes forward to grab it, only to yank back as she burns him. She’s…never done that before. “What did you do?!”

“Nothing!” Wild backs away, but it does nothing to stop the falling sensation the chosen hero is trapped in. “I swear! I just pulled it out!”

“I can’t pick her up!” Fi’s chimes are leveling off, dropping into the range he considers cautious and curious. When he tentatively taps the handle, she’s cool to the touch. 

“Let me try again.” Wild reaches out, frowning when Sky pulls the sword back. “C’mon, I bet it was just surprised!”

“No! Your version of her might have had no choice, but she doesn’t want you now.”

“Sky!” Twilight starts toward, fists balling at his sides. “You take that back.”

But Sky is sick to his stomach, the pain of Fi’s rejection still pulsing in his palms. “It’s my sword.” He turns on his heel and walks away, ignoring the rancher’s threats behind him. 

Wild stands, lost, and watches him go.

For eldritch!Wild, something I am curious about is how Fi reacts to him, I feel like there are so many ways that it could be written, and now I'm curious about it.

Fi’s relationship with him is complicated. She both loves and hates him because of his nature. When Wild first tried pulling the Master Sword, he got burned. Then he got stronger and pulled her.

I might write a short oneshot of this because it’s a complex relationship.
