We desperately need to bring back interurbans. They are such good ways of moving people between urban centers and suburbs and like were just good at being transit. I mean there may only be one left, the Soutb shore Line, but despite the challenges the Right of Ways of these old magnificent transit systems manage to continue to be used in transit almost a century after their decline.
Now, photos of that last old girl.

South Shore steeplecabs
Early action shot of a pair of South Shore steeplecabs (1003 and 1010), still with trolley poles in addition to their pantographs. Note also the railroads name is spelled out fully; it was later shortened to 'South Shore Line' on the freight locos.

goff kids family headcanons<3
michael
his parents are divorced and have both remarried. his father and step mother live in south park and have majority custody, but he usually spends his summers with his mom and her husband. they move around a lot so often times its a different house year to year.
his parents divorced when he was pretty young, only around 3 or 4. his father remarried almost immediately, but his mother didn't remarry until he was in his teens
he has an older sister, she's around 15 years older than him. she lives in new york.
they aren't super close, they kind of forget the other exists a lot of the time, but whenever they're together during the holidays or other visits they'll hang out. they text each other about once a month.
every other year, his mom takes him and his sister to visit her family in south korea. they spend about a month there.
of his four parents, he gets along best with his mother, then his step father, then step mother, and lastly his father.
they do not vibe.
henrietta
her father is her mother's second husband. occasionally she'll remember this fact and be weirded out.
she and bradley DO NOT get along at all, except in brief circumstances when either of their parents are being shitty, in which they will team up to harass their parents.
she has attempted to poison her father on three different occasions
pete
lives with his mom and little sister.
his father left when he was five, his sister was a few months old. they've had no contact with him since.
he does honestly love his mom and sister a lot but he tries to play it off in public. because psh, no way. blood family?? that's bullshit. obviously. duh.
that said if your mean to his sister he'll fucking Get You.
(this sentiment is also granted to karen.)
additional furry family is pete's fat ass cat named elliot and an ancient hound dog who spends most of his time asleep on the porch.
firkle
they live with their dad and his parents. their mother is in jail.
their grandparents are really catholic and generally do not agree with firkle's. you know. everything. but their dad just wants them to be Happy, so he'll usually defend them even if he's a little confused.
occasionally he does worry that firkle will end up like their mother but he does not know how to change this situation. he tries to sign them up for summer camps or just things where they'll have Normal Kid Experiences but they always wind up weaseling their way out of it.
their mom sends them letters sometimes. their dad always always always reads them before he'll hand them off to firkle.
(their grandparents will just toss them)
she's a little bit crazy bananas batshit which firkle thinks is kind of fun but is distressing for everyone else
they have four pet rats. most of their room is dedicated to Rat Space.
(their mom used to have a ball python which they are FASCINATED to learn.)

I'm off tomorrow for a long weekend visiting my grandkids (and their parents, of course) in Nova Scotia. Why go in winter you might ask?
Because they're there.

how many pantographs u got, r u in that 4 pantograph config? the 2? the 1?
Pantographs? Like on an Electric Train? Well Electric Locomotives usually have two, but Multiple Units generally have one or two per power car but if course you usually only use half of your total number of pantographs and how many you have in total is dependent on the formation of your train

South Shore 901 Shops 5-2-65
South Shore steeplecab 901 in the dead line at Michigan City Shops 5-2-65 (note that the builder's plate has been liberated, as evidenced by the round rusty spot below the word "Line" in the lettering). Built 1926 by Baldwin-Westinghouse for Illinois Central's lakefront freight trackage electrification program, resold to South Shore in 1941. KC Henkels photo.
