something else that i have been thinking abt since writing the cowboy fic is that like. i feel like. there is sort of this....very intense expectation when it comes to warnings on fics? and i feel like this is a post-tiktok shift simply bc i don't see it as much w older fics but. what i mean is like.

the tags are where tws/cws go, right? like, the general expectation is that if there is potentially upsetting content, the writer will do their best to tag it so that people know going into the fic to expect violence or angst etc etc. and it is the responsibility of the reader to check those tags before reading and decide if they're okay with encountering that potentially upsetting material. which is a great system!

but i feel like now there's this growing expectation that writers will not only tag their fics, but also include detailed warnings in the notes on each chapter. and like.....i think that is a very kind gesture from writers who want to do it, but it shouldn't be an expectation. it isn't a writer's responsibility to provide warnings on every single chapter of a fic. like, if the fic is tagged with something like "violence" or "injury" or "gore," you as a reader are opening that fic with the blanket acknowledgment that you are prepared for any kind of violence/injury/gore that it might contain. and you aren't entitled to any more detailed warnings on the actual chapter where those things occur. y'know?

and yeah, sometimes you'll open a fic tagged with something thinking u can handle it, and then you'll get to that part of the story and find it more upsetting than u expected. that happens! but that's just part of like...the Big Kid Reading Experience, y'know? it's not the writer's responsibility to protect u from a story that u chose to read.

anyway, i just feel like i am increasingly witnessing (and every so often being subjected to lol) this phenomenon of people reading a fic tagged with various warnings and then acting surprised or even upset with the writer because.....they were surprised that the fic tagged "violence" was violent. or that the fic tagged "angst" was sad. or that the fic tagged "canon-compliant" was canon-compliant. and then if they're called on their bs they'll hand-wring and act like the tag on the fic wasn't enough, because they weren't expecting the violence to be that violent, or the angst to be that sad, and they'll act as though the writer has done something wrong by not giving a step-by-step breakdown in the notes on each chapter of every single potentially upsetting detail....which is just ridiculous!

anyway. tl;dr - nobody is entitled to detailed, in-depth tws on every single fic ch; the writers who do that are just being extra nice to u, so stop treating it as some sort of standard expectation!

FUCK. That film also has the best kissing I have ever seen in a movie??? Like I didn’t know that could be a compliment one could give a film but mate it was spectacular. Unreal. There’s no way Josh and Mike did not absolutely fall head over heels irl after she kissed them like that I do not CARE that there were 7 cameras and 70 PAs and 700 fucking cameramen it doesn’t matter??? Entry to an art contest

This is a rant and I didn't read through it because I'm tired <3

This isn't actually the entry to it, I just wanted to talk about it.

So a couple of days ago I was looking through the art contest search on tiktok because I recently joined one and I found it fun, even though I didn't win, so I wanted to join another one. It was just of a gacha life character, it was simple so I started drawing them. The winner could've been a drawing or an edit of the character which isn't too bad I just thought they should've been separate categories. I ended up drawing for a while so I stopped for the day.

The next day I checked to see when the deadline was and it was the next day, I realised I needed to hurry up. Also while checking the deadline I saw that the person hosting it changed their oc, oh but don't worry, "You still have time 😊" No we fucking don't. Me especially takes AGES drawing something so I can't just redo it because that'll take to long. I was pretty pissed off about this because I thought the winner would only be the ones that did the new oc. Anyway I finish it, didn't think it was good then posted it.

The next day (today) in the afternoon I look to see who won. A pleasant surprise was that there was two winners and runnerups for each oc, so that's good. It started with third place, it was an edit. Then second, it was a drawing I saw before I entered that I thought was pretty good so I wasn't annoyed. But then first place, it wasn't me but that's fine...if the art is better than mine. I don't want to be rude but I think mine was better, probably not enough to win but better than the one that did.

I don't blame the artist in any way I think it was the host that was bad. Anyway here's the art if you were wondering:

I could point out stuff I don't like/mistakes but I'm tired of typing. I could try and find the winner if anyone was interested 👀 but that might be mean.

hello bab!! oh god i am. so sorry to be so unhelpful in this department but i must confess i do not know :-/ i mean i watch it with subtitles obvs and there ARE references made in the show to characters having accents (if i remember correctly) particularly like one of the main characters is from cologne? BUT i believe if there are any details like that in there or any key differences in dialects between characters i just do not have the ear to pick up on it...they are going straight over my head as a non-german speaker relying on the subtitles...i am so sorry :-(

you could undoubtedly argue that the rise in “true crime youtubers/tiktokers” has brought more awareness to cases but my god do i wish these channels were run by someone with any knowledge of how to talk about crime and victims in a respectful manner. and i wish that comments were limited, too many commenters think they’re sherlock when in reality they are making a mockery out of victims without even realising.

i just saw a woman on tiktok say “something about this [quadruple homicide] does not sit right with me”. gee, i’m so glad she pointed out that 4 innocent university students getting murdered doesn’t sit right, i was starting to worry about everyone being comfortable with it! /s. and the comments. so many people accusing random people: sisters, parents, friends, etc. i’ve seen people compare true crime cases that are *ongoing* to films! “we’re living in a netflix show right now!”. i cannot imagine the gall you have to possess to sit there on social media and act like it’s fun to watch a crime case unfold in real time. it happened with amber vs johnny (not a murder but still absolutely sensationalised), gabbie petito, it’s happening again with the idaho student murders, and no doubt next year when there’s a case that people can quickly make cash and content from.

sure, it probably happened before social media too through traditional media outlets but the beauty of tiktok and youtube is that it is open for everyone to see. the algorithm means that friends of victims can see these people talk about their friends like they’re characters in american horror story!!

i’ve seen youtube comments asking what “everyone’s favourite case is”. okay, perhaps you are interested in the psychology behind such acts of violence and understanding how the cogs in their brain works differently. but you cannot tell me that the millions of people ‘waiting for updates!! tag me in the next part! have they released photos yet??’ are interested in the psychology etc. rather than the gruesome details. it’s like people have just become desensitised towards actual murders and crimes and trauma and are acting like it’s a fun game of cluedo and it’s actually gross at this point
