8/365: April 24, 2023
Having to deal with depression is exhausting. I’ve never felt consistent with myself. And to be honest I don’t know what a normal me feels like. My days can consist of having a good productive and enjoyable time but then i don’t I disassociate(?) Or I completely just deplete in every single way possible. I’m tired like today for example I had a good day. I did my chores I felt good but as soon as I interacted with my family I kinda just sank. I feel frustrated sad and angry… and all I wanna feel is okay :/
I feel guilty when I push away my mom. I know she means well but sometimes I can’t deal with her interactions. They don’t have to be bad or good for me to feel over it. The worst is that it happens any time of day. I can wake up sad angry or frustrated to the point of tears or I can go about my day and all of sudden have this ball of negativity just wanting to come out. It’s tiring not have some sort of control of my emotions.
Anyways I got to see JKs Weverse live. He’s a cute guy I hope he’s enjoying his downtime and he has fun with all his friends.
And since he shared a recipe too all give one too~~
Fresas Con Crema~~
Ingredients :
Strawberries (I used 2lbs enough for me and my family. Serves like 6 ppl)
Vanilla (1 tsp)
Sour cream (start with 1/2 cup. Build off from that but adjust to taste)
Sweetened Condensed Milk (1/2 cup to start. Less if you don’t want them too sweet but feel free to add more if you do want them sweet.)
Typically table cream but I didn’t have it this time. It came out fine 💀 ( 1 can)
Instructions :
Rinse and wash your 🍓.
I like to cut out all the cores and stems at this time to make dicing easier and faster for me.
Dice your strawberries 🍓 This time around I diced and I also cut them into rounds. I just wanted to have different sizes.
Okay pause this is where if you do have that table crème you start…. Place like 3/4 cups of 🍓 and the crème in a blender. Blend till smooth and creamy. Pour that mixture into a medium bowl. Okay now proceed with the next step 👇 :)
In a medium bowl place your diced 🍓🍓🍓 and you are going to start pouring in you other ingredients.
Go ahead and pour your vanilla, sour cream, and condensed milk. Stir to combine all the creams and flavors 😂
Now THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART EVER (in my mind lol. Up to you really :p) COVER AND PLACE TO CHILL IN THE FRIDGE. (Or serve right after your done making them 😪)
Boom that’s it!!!!
easy peasy lemon squeezy

Best Part Of The Night
Author's note: Oh, look at that. I’m finally adding a tiny bit of romance on Ernest x Alisha subplot 😁 this is also a submission to @choicesnovchallenge2021 [Original characters are creations of this author. The others are owned by Pixelberry Studios] Book: Desire & Decorum (modern day AU) Pairing: Ernest Sinclaire x F!OC (Alisha) Rating: T Word count: 1654 Reading time: ~7min Summary: Culinary lessons with Alisha make Ernest eager to learn more than just recipes. Based on the prompt: Choices November Challenge - day ten: cupcakes
Tumblr media
"No."
Ernest shook his head and quickly unbuttoned his shirt off, tossing it on the growing pile of clothes on the ottoman next to him. Turning back to the clothing racks and shelves in his closet, he searched for another shirt. Among designer jumpers and shirts with different types of sleeves, colors and various kinds of fabric, nothing seemed good enough. He reached for another shirt, pressed it to his chest as he looked in the mirror and made a face.
"Absolutely not."
And just like that, another shirt was tossed aside.
As he looked at the pile of wrinkled shirts, Ernest groaned in frustration. He was an objective man who made smart and fast decisions. Whenever he had a meeting or an event to attend, his outfit was chosen days before to make sure his image expressed exactly who he was and his goals. Yet, there he was, thirty five minutes away from his next appointment, and he couldn't pick up a single shirt.
Just then, a knock interrupted his thoughts.
"Come in!" He ordered.
Carrying a long sleeve white shirt, Lydia Sinclaire strolled into her son's room with a smile. "No luck yet, sweetheart?"
"No. Everything in here looks too pretentious or makes it look like I'm trying too hard."
"You are trying too hard," his mother commented.
His shoulders slumped in defeat. "I don't understand. It's just a cooking class. Why is it so hard to pick up a shirt?"
Lydia chuckled. If she ever told him why he was so worried about a shirt, he wouldn't admit it. So she chose to say something else instead.
"I think only you can find out the reason, but in any case, cooks and chefs in general would approve of a nice white shirt," Lydia said, as she turned her son around and pressed the shirt in her hand to his chest.
Ernest studied his reflection for a moment and nodded. "Hmm..."
"It's a nice choice, isn't it?" She grinned.
"It is. Thank you, mother."
"You're welcome, darling. Now get dressed. I saw Alisha walking into the estate whilst I was bringing you this shirt."
"Is she here?!" His blue eyes widened. "Why didn't you tell me this earlier?"
"Oh, don't be silly, sweetheart. She arrived early to set up everything with Mrs. Davies." She patted her son's shoulder as he heaved a sigh. "Don't forget to roll up the sleeves."
He put on the shirt, rolled up the sleeves as his mother instructed and glanced at her from the mirror. "Thank you, mother."
"Of course, Ernest."
Once his mother disappeared from view, he checked himself in the mirror one more time and headed downstairs.
As he approached the kitchen, a gentle humming reached his ears. Clearly, it wasn't anyone from the staff. The manor was so quiet at times that he often forgot he had six employees at home. Ernest then realised it could only be one person.
He leaned on the threshold and smiled at the sight before him. Dressing in her white chef uniform, with her deep dark hair styled in a low bun, Alisha arranged the last of the ingredients on the kitchen island. While humming a The Cure's song, she picked up a tablet from her bag and set it up on the counter.
Is she always like this or is it because she loves her work this much she savoured every single opportunity to be in a kitchen?
She looked so calm in her element he almost felt sorry for what he was about to do.
"Ahem!"
Alisha looked up and greeted him with a smile. "Good evening, Mr. Sinclaire."
For some reason he couldn't quite fathom, right now the kitchen seemed cozy, more inviting. How odd...
"Good evening, Ms. Hastings."
"If I recall correctly, Mrs Sinclaire mentioned that both of you like sweets. For this reason, tonight you're going to learn one of the easiest cupcake recipes you'll find."
As Ernest approached the kitchen island, she grabbed the tablet and showed him the recipe.
"Grass cupcakes?!" His brows furrowed in confusion
"Yes."
"That's an odd name to give to a dessert."
"It's lemon cake actually. But I've been calling it grass cake ever since the first time I tasted it."
Something about the way her smile adorning her face reached her eyes gave him the feeling the story behind it was more than a fond childhood memory. Yet, he decided not to ask about it. At least, not right away.
"Shall we get started then?"
He nodded, taking a place by her side to follow the recipe.
"First lesson of every recipe made in a blender: liquid, creamy and soft texture ingredients first. Then we add powder, solids, etcetera."
She passed him the ingredients and he added eggs, yogurt, sunflower oil, and turned on the blender.
"No milk?"
"No. We already have the yogurt. It'll give the necessary amount of dairy and sourness to make the cake fluffy."
Once she turned off the blender, she continued to guide him through the recipe, explaining the order of the ingredients and giving him the instructions. He added lemon cake mix and lemon jelly powder to the jar. Lastly, she handed him a small bowl with a green liquid.
"I thought all liquids were blended first," he said, adding the ingredient.
"Yes, but this is just food coloring made of spinach. It won't add taste, but it gives a nice color to the batter. I like to save it so I don't exaggerate."
He then turned on the blender again.
"Is that why it's called grass cake?"
"No." Alisha shook her head with a smile as she began to coat the cupcake pan with butter. "A few weeks after I came to Europe, my parents took me to a party and there was a table just with colorful cupcakes. But the kids there didn't like me much. One of them decided it'd be funny to tell me the cupcakes were made of grass and added some to offer me."
"That is..." A mist of shock and anger grew within him as he absorbed the words. "Cruel."
"Well, that's what rich white kids do when their parents don't have the decency to teach them some good manners." she replied, the bitterness in her tone accentuated as her lips were pressed in a hard thin line. "Can you turn on the oven?"
He nodded and followed her instructions in silence. As Ernest looked back at her, he could only think about how stupid privileged children could be. A part of him wished he could apologise for them, but another part wondered how she would feel about it.
"I..." She trailed off as she turned off the blender, an uncomfortable silence settling between them. "I didn't mean to offend you, Mr. Sinclaire. I just..."
"It's hard not to be on the defensive."
She gazed into his eyes for a few seconds and agreed. "Yeah."
"It's okay, Alisha. I understand."
Her eyebrows rose in surprise. Still holding her gaze, he studied her features, taking her in, wishing he could figure out the thoughts crossing her mind.
But soon, she looked away, turning her attention to the cakes. “But I didn't mind. For all I knew then, muddy cakes were actually made of mud and I still ate them when I lived in the orphanage.”
"You did?"
"Oh, you know..." She gave her shoulders with a grin. "Kids..."
Her reaction was so spontaneous he couldn’t help but chuckle in response.
"Anyway, let's get these babies in the oven and work on the filling and the frosting."
"Okay."
Once the cupcakes in the oven, they moved along to assemble ingredients and prepare the filling and frosting. The sweet smell of cake perfumed the air as she taught him how to work with the piping bag. But even as someone with a strong liking for sweets, to have her hands over his, to hear her praises when he did something right, to learn more about her was more compelling than anything else.
About two hours later, Alisha beamed watching him set the piping bag down and organize the cupcakes in a tray. "We're done."
He took his time to inspect the cupcakes and nodded. "I guess you were right. That was easy. Are there any other recipes that can be done in a blender?"
"Yeah, there are so many. I can send them to your email.”
“But you’re still going to walk me through it, right?”
“I don’t know. I helped you tonight because you’re still new to cooking, but truth be told, you barely needed any assistance. In time, you won't need me here at all."
"I wouldn't go that far... Decorating cupcakes isn't so easy."
"I agree. But don't sell yourself short. You came a long way from the day you finally learned how to use the stove," she taunted, smirking as she reached for a cupcake.
He pressed his lips together in annoyance. Her talent to get on his nerves, but still make him eager to keep her close was astounding. Yet, before he could reply, his full attention returned to Alisha cutting the cupcake in half and showing him the results with a satisfied grin.
"Look at this beauty..." She said, admiring the inside part of the green cake with a good portion of lemon mousse and the green whipped cream on top. "We did great."
"Indeed we did."
"Are you ready to taste the very first cupcake you made, Mr. Sinclaire?"
He nodded and received one half of the cupcake and took a bite. Rich flavors of white chocolate, lemon and the extra fluffy cake exploded in his mouth. A low moan escaped his lips.
"I know, right?" Alisha gave him a cheeky grin.
His lips curled upwards and they took another bite, exchanging glances from time to time and talking about the cake. Despite the delightful experience of savoring great food, the dishes he learned were just a bonus. The best part of the night was definitely her.

Once again, we want to apologize for pushing the acceptance back! We hope that you all understand why we did! We would love to thank everyone for applying. Congratulations to everyone, your applications absolutely floored us. Each application presented their characters with such nuance or complexity, sometimes even both, we know that you all will bring magic to our little roleplay. Please see our CHECKLIST for further instructions.
ZAHRA ( she/her ) IS ACCEPTED FOR THE ROLE OF TARQUIN MCTAVISH ( he/him & cismale ) ! Strumming away on a guitar somehow made the time pass easier and it seemed as if the only time he could ever make sense of what he was feeling- of the anger and the hatred and the mind numbing pain he felt- was when he wrote it in a song. We were all completely blown away by the application and every unsuspected turn that it held, particularly the idea of music and how that’s connected with them. We thought this was such an interesting take on Tarquin and cannot wait to see them on our dash! FACE CLAIM CHANGE TO SAMUEL LARSEN IS APPROVED.
KAI ( she/her ) IS ACCEPTED FOR THE ROLE OF MEENAKSHI FAWLEY ( she/her & cisgender ) ! No, Meenakshi was not an idle girl who settled for the meager, and she never would be. She would work for what she wanted, no matter the cost. It was obvious at how much thought you put in about Meenakshi and this was everything that we expected and so much more. You created a solid character who we are all absolutely in love with. We hope that they get exactly what they want -- no matter the cost.
LOLA ( she/her ) IS ACCEPTED FOR THE ROLE OF GWENOG JONES ( she/her & gender tbd ) ! You either loved her or hated Gwenog Jones but you couldn’t disrespect her. The backstory that you wrote about their family was absolutely beautiful. The sheer pressure that more than likely was placed on their shoulders, with their parents losing everything and all of their hopes were on Gwenog must have been rough but we absolutely love it. Please remember to send us the gender of Gwenog. FACE CLAIM CHANGE TO KYLIE BUNBURY IS APPROVED.
ERIN ( she/her ) IS ACCEPTED FOR THE ROLE OF GRETA CATCHLOVE ( she/her/hers & ciswoman ) ! Much like the recipes she loves, magic simply takes following the instructions and executing steps well. There is so much potential in this application when it comes to Greta and we can see so much growth for Greta to have in the roleplay which is exactly what we want to see. We cannot wait to see what directions you pull Greta through. PLEASE MESSAGE THE MAIN REGARDING FACE CLAIM CHANGES.
CHARLIE ( she/her ) IS ACCEPTED FOR THE ROLE OF EMMELINE VANCE ( she/her & cisgender female ) ! Often she really tries to keep her mouth shut, but then her self-control slips and the question is out before she can even realize it happening. We absolutely loved how you wrote about the conflict between their parents and the loneliness they felt as a young child who just wanted someone to be there for them. This application had so many good points about it and we cannot wait to see Emmeline in our feed! FACE CLAIM CHANGE TO ALISHA BOE IS APPROVED.

William Barr, Huawei, Caster Semenya: Your Thursday Briefing
Tumblr media
U.S. Attorney General Grilled by Senate Panel
Attorney General William Barr spent much of Wednesday answering questions from members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on the special counsel’s report on Russian election meddling and possible obstruction of justice.
Mr. Barr defended the four-page summary that he released of the report, which the special counsel, Robert Mueller, criticized in a letter released by the Justice Department as failing to capture the “context, nature and substance” of the 448-page document.
Partisan focus: Democrats pressed Mr. Barr on why he had not publicly acknowledged concerns about his original summary and why he asserted that Mr. Trump had cooperated fully with the investigation when he tried to thwart it.
Republicans focused not on Mr. Trump or Mr. Mueller’s report but on Hillary Clinton’s emails and the former F.B.I. officials who opened the Russia investigation.
Go deeper: Read our reporter’s takeaways from the hearing.
What’s next: The House Judiciary Committee voted to allow staff lawyers to question Mr. Barr on Thursday. Mr. Barr has said he will not appear under that format.
See for yourself: Watch clips from the hearing.
Huawei grapples with an identity crisis
The Trump administration’s accusations that the telecommunications giant acts as a spy for the Chinese government, means that Huawei must prove it is trustworthy to maintain lucrative global business ties.
But “its soul is steeped in Communist Party culture,” writes our New New World columnist Li Yuan, and the company’s internal structures resemble the party, from the power of its top leadership down to its team-building activities.
Related: Britain’s prime minister, Theresa May, fired her defense secretary, accusing him of leaking sensitive information about the government’s internal deliberations about Huawei and its decision to let the company build out its 5G network.
Trade talks: As the U.S. and China work toward closing a trade deal, there’s one thing that Beijing is unlikely to yield on: control over the data that American companies collect on their consumers inside China.
Women with high testosterone can be barred from races
A nuanced ruling by the highest court in international sports will force female athletes with elevated levels of male hormones to take suppressants to compete in certain international track races.
The ruling is a defeat for Caster Semenya, a two-time Olympic champion in track and field from South Africa, who had previously challenged a proposal to limit testosterone levels. The ruling by the arbitration court was also watched closely by transgender athletes.
The court said restrictions on permitted levels of naturally occurring testosterone were discriminatory, but that such discrimination was a “necessary, reasonable and proportionate means” to preserve the integrity of women’s competition.
Response: Ms. Semenya issued a statement through her lawyers, said the decision “will not hold me back. I will once again rise above and continue to inspire young women and athletes in South Africa and around the world.” Her lawyers are considering an appeal.
What’s next: If she wants to keep participating at major international competitions, she faces some hard choices: take hormone-suppressing drugs; compete against men; or enter competitions for intersex athletes, if any are offered.
Focus on food and climate
What we eat every day has consequences.
The world’s food system is responsible for about one-quarter of the planet-warming greenhouse gases that humans generate each year. That includes raising and harvesting all the plants, animals and animal products we eat. Climate change is also now altering the foods America grows.
What should you do? We’ve answered all your questions about how to shop, cook and eat in a warming world.
Recipes: Review our collection of climate-friendly dishes. And a correspondent who has traveled the world suggests five cuisines that are easier on the planet.
Quiz: What is the climate impact of the type of foods you ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner yesterday? Take our quiz.
If you have 8 minutes, this is worth it
In pursuit of Aboriginal justice
Patrick Cumaiyi waved to his family with shackled hands as he boarded a plane to Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, to face a domestic-violence complaint. Before takeoff, an argument broke out, an officer delivered a sharp blow to Mr. Cumaiyi’s head, and another officer dragged him headfirst onto the tarmac.
Medical records obtained by The New York Times suggest he was a victim not only of police brutality — a persistent problem for Indigenous Australians — but also a cover-up.
Here’s what else is happening
U.N.C.: A 22-year-old man was in custody following a deadly shooting at the University of North Carolina that left two dead and four wounded.
Venezuela: Thousands of the opposition Juan Guaidó’s supporters turned out for a second day of protests in the capital, Caracas, and elsewhere, but it was unclear whether the antigovernment demonstrations were a convincing rejoinder to the setback he suffered on Tuesday, when military commanders asserted their allegiance to President Nicolás Maduro.
Julian Assange: A British court sentenced the WikiLeaks founder to 50 weeks in jail for jumping bail when he took refuge in Ecuador’s embassy in London seven years ago.
Taliban: Negotiators began a new round of peace talks with the U.S. in Doha, Qatar. The U.S. military command in Afghanistan has stopped counting how much of the country is controlled by the Taliban, eliminating what had been a public measure of progress in the war.
Australia: Kate Jenkins, who is leading the country’s inquiry into workplace sexual harassment, is trying to overcome nondisclosure agreements that prevent victims from speaking out.
Snapshot: Above, Emperor Naruhito’s ascension ceremony. It offers striking visual evidence of the imperial family’s existential crisis: few heirs.
Yeti sighting? The Indian Army posted photos of 32-inch footprints near a base camp in Nepal, saying they belonged to the mythical snowman. Social media users had their own theories.
Netflix: The video streaming giant and SK Global Entertainment, the production house that made the film “Crazy Rich Asians,” acquired the rights to the story of the 12 boys and their soccer coach who were trapped in a cave in Thailand in July.
Do-it-yourself treadmills: Internet users are posting videos of themselves exercising using nothing more than soap, water, a slick hard floor and maybe a lack of common sense.
Dolphins: Scientists believe a beluga whale found off the coast of Norway and harnessed with a GoPro-type camera was being trained by the Russian Navy.
What we’re reading: This conversation with Anjelika Huston in Vulture. “It’s as good as everyone is saying,” writes Katie Rogers, one of our White House correspondents.
Now, a break from the news
Cook: When an average salad won’t do, Samin Nosrat’s greenest green salad will satisfy.
Listen: From Kanye West to serpentwithfeet to the Stellar Awards returning to BET, our critics discuss the evolving dialogue between gospel and pop.
Watch: The comedian Anthony Jeselnik says he can say very dark things because audiences understand that he’s not a monster — his character is. His new special is now on Netflix.
Go: The Turner Prize, Britain’s most prestigious art award, announced four finalists. Their work will go on display in Margate, England, and the winner will be announced in December.
Smarter Living:Allergies can be torture. Immunotherapy — shots that can help desensitize you to allergens — can help over time. If needles aren’t your thing, cleaning the filter of your air conditioner or furnace can keep indoor air cleaner. Vacuum often. Mattress protectors for both your mattress and box spring keep dust mites out. Pillow protectors are also an option.
And we asked you for the best advice anyone’s ever given you, and how it made an impact on your life. Here’s what you said.
And now for the Back Story on …
The power of fairy tales
A recent feature by our Berlin bureau chief tracked how Germany’s far-right has adopted anti-immigrant tropes in discussing an influx from Poland of “the most notorious fairy-tale baddie”: the wolf.
Connecting nationalism and fairy tales is not new.
The Brothers Grimm, who based their tales on folk tradition, lived and worked in the 19th century, when Europe was brimming with enthusiasm for the nation-state over multi-ethnic empires. Artists and writers reached for ancient myths to feed the ideal of a national culture.
That legacy lives on in children’s books but also concert halls: Jean Sibelius picked tales from the Finnish national epic “Kalevala”, and Bela Bartok collected folk songs from the former Austro-Hungarian empire.
But populists picking up the tales and myths often seems far from the artists’ intentions.
“Even if musical folklore once owed a debt to nationalism, today, ultranationalism hurts it so much that the damage is far greater than the benefit once was,” Bartok wrote in an essay in 1937.
Earlier this week, we told you about South Korean grandmothers who are learning to read and write for the first time. Their poignant stories reminded our Seoul bureau chief of the older villagers he knew when he was growing up.
That’s it for this briefing. See you next time.
— Inyoung and Katie
Thank you Alisha Haridasani Gupta helped compile today’s briefing. Mark Josephson, Eleanor Stanford and Kenneth R. Rosen wrote the break from the news. Palko Karasz, in our London bureau, wrote today’s Back Story. You can reach the team at [email protected].
P.S. • We’re listening to “The Daily.” Our latest episode is about the end of Omar Hassan al-Bashir’s rule of Sudan. • Here’s our Mini Crossword puzzle, and a clue: Singer who’s part of the celebrity couple “J-Rod” (3 letters).
