Ethiopia to become first country to recognize Somaliland in exchange for stakes in Berbera Port, naval base, and 'Red Sea access' through 20 km coast leased to Ethiopia for 50 years and significant share of Ethiopian Airlines
This is the interview this person included in their thread about Somalia. I transcribed it here. The English subtitles were provided:
Abshir: We went to sea simply because we were hungry. You want to survive, you have to do something. You start looking for money and that means: Foreigners with a white skin. So people like you.
Voice Over: Eventually we get to talk to Abshir Boyah, the pirate godfather. Since he had took up piracy in the mid-1990s he has been involved in over 25 hijacks.
Abshir: Things developed one step at a time. We started out with one boat with a very poor engine. Then we got some money and bought a second boat. That's how we grew bigger and bigger over time. And that's how we became pirates. There were only 10 of us in the first year. Then 20 in the next... then 30, 50, and so on. Now many people are involved in piracy.
Voice Over: Does Boyah think the great number of foreign naval vessels in Somali waters will deter the pirates?
Abshir: We're not afraid of the naval vessels. Even when they shoot we go abroad. We're afraid of only one thing. Something much worse than cannons and bullets: hunger. Bring on your planes, ships, and submarines. We're not afraid of you. If we were afraid we would have stopped ages ago. All those ships won't solve anything.
I also watched a video recently where a Somalian woman said that western countries calling them pirates was a way to effectively demonize them (but of course, if some of them do want to be referred to as such, I respect that), but I found it important to talk about what this woman called them, which was: Somalia's National Coast Guard ✊🏻❤️
G20 Expansion: The Arrival Of G21 With The African Union
Some question the inclusion of 2 @_AfricanUnion member countries, #Somaliland & the Sahraoui Arab Democratic Republic (#SADR), as these two are not recognized by the @UN. #India also does not recognize SADR. #G20.
Egypt’s leader el-Sissi slams Ethiopia-Somaliland coastline deal and vows support for Somalia | The Independent
It seems like every day we're edging closer to global war. This is yet another conflict that has it's roots in European colonialism. The good old British Empire ran the colony of British Somaliland. The Republic of Somaliland is its successor. The rest of Somalia descends from Italian Somaliland, and the old colonial divides remain.
Somalia has been in chaos for decades, while Somaliland has had de facto independence since 1991 and is generally functioning better as a state than Somalia, yet it is largely unrecognised.
Somalia is ready to go to war over this because it's an affront to its sovereignty. Egypt is ready to go to war to protect its water security. There's going to be more of this climate change worsens, with nations going to war over water. It's not just them and Ethiopia that could get drawn in: Eritrea, which took Ethiopia's coastal access with it when it broke away in 1991 after 30 years of war, and the Sudan, already in the middle of a huge and brutal civil war, will likely be drawn in as well. Egypt also borders Israel and has been drawn into that Israel-Hamas conflict, which has already caused a domino-run of conflicts across the world.

We want people to wake up and to get up and take charge of their destiny.
We stand for the decentralisation and localisation of political power to local communities, empowering them. We want our people to take charge of their own development, don't rely on our failed politicians.

In this article, Ali Mazrui’s perspective on #Somaliland, as expressed in his speeches, interviews, and newsletters, will be presented in his own words. According to Mazrui, Somaliland must be recognized as a #sovereign state

Somaliland has been functionally independent for decades but is not recognized by any other country, or even other non-recognized states. This would be the first legitimate(aka non-Russian-puppet) instance of a non-recognized state gaining recognition since Kosovo.
