You knew.

It was obvious, undeniable. The inappropriate whispers, the quick glances full of malicious intent, two glasses of wine in the living room when he was supposed to be alone at the house you both shared. Nobody could ever close their eyes to something so painful, not even you, with all the love you had for him.

Johnny Cage always had wandering eyes, something you used to find funny. The mischievous, flirty jokes that attracted you remained there, but it was a matter of time for the target to be someone else. But John Carlton seemed different than Johnny, the cinema icon. John looked at you with sweet eyes, something that only existed for you, on that you could be sure. It was all yours. Until it wasn’t.

For some time you asked yourself why. But there wasn’t an answer. You accommodated him, made room for him in your life, saw him fail in directing all those films, watched the fights he won and took care of him in the ones he didn’t. You were not the reason. The reason didn’t exist. But you had to ask.

“Why?” You asked, the silence so uncomfortable you almost could touch it, in the bedroom that used to be yours. He didn’t answered. “Is it because she is a lieutenant? You liked the adrenaline?”

One last piece of clothing was put in your bag, a cardigan he had gave you long ago. He remained in silence, in front of the door, almost blocking it. You wanted a reaction, cries of apology, screams and pleads for you not to leave: there’s nothing. It is impressive that Cage is not speaking up.

"I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs, knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired"

He finally says something: your name. Eyes down, full of tears that don’t fall, an ocean blue stuck at his chest.

“And you can’t even say you’re sorry”

“I am.”

You had showed him all of your scars, he had kissed all of them, drawing constellations of stars in your skin and your heart. Now, he was becoming another one. One that would hurt do leave and take longer to heal.

“You don’t need to stay. Just say you forgive me.”

Even in this moment, he was still Johnny Cage. The one that wanted to feel good about himself. No mistakes, he wanted to be perfect.

“It’s too soon for that, John. You need the green light of forgiveness? Can’t give you that right now."

You close your bag. It’s done. On your way out, you ask yourself if tou can forgive him one day. But today, you only want to forget.

okay i've been DYING to talk about this and i will rn

the final fight against vader is super fucking cool in a LOT of ways, but one of them i don't see talked about is just how imposing vader actually is. this is a TERRIFYING opponent, someone who is eons more powerful than cal and it SHOWS.

from the way cal, as soon as he sees vader, is shitting bricks (and i have another text post about that.. somewhere..) but also from when we fight him and you see just HOW unevenly matched these two are.. take cal vs malicos as an example

cal is so, SO fucking outmatched here. his hits to malicos were fast, constant blows that drove malicos back, putting him on the offence. but with vader?? cal is struggling to deflect even one hit. he's thrown off balance with the heaviness of each hit, and later we see vader quite literally GRAB cal's saber from his hands and shove him backwards with it. the only reason why cal got out of that situation was bd-1 shocking vader + and he left the fortress alive because cere showed up.

i know i yap on about cal's achievements and how he faced vader and lived and that makes him so cool and yada but i truly do think if cal was alone in that fortress he would be dead.
