#so my headcanon as to why that is is that the Artificer is so angry

“The Artificer’s campaign has little impact on the overall story” bitch I cannot stress how much of an impact the Artificer had on the entire world. You just need to pay attention to some things.
By the time of the Artificer, Scavengers are basically in the middle of a massive golden age. They have a Chieftain (with a mark of communication (maybe Five Pebbles gave them the mark and citizen ID drone and tried to use them for something but they rebelled and found Metropolis)) with armour made from Red Centipede Scales, they have a permanent home in metropolis above the rain, they figured out how to harvest electrical scrap and broken down Rarefaction Cells from the ruins of Looks To The Moon and pieces of Five Pebbles to make electric spears and Singularity Bombs, they even have specially trained Elite Scavengers, which did exist before in the time of the Spearmaster but it’s still worth bringing them up.
Overall, Scavengers are at a golden age of invention and life in general.
And then they anger the Artificer, who slaughters countless Scavengers, kills their Chieftain and drives them out of Metropolis, locking the gate behind them.
After that, a new Chieftain is never made, armour like the chieftain once wore is never made again, Scavengers suffer a massive population loss, they can’t enter Metropolis without a Citizen ID Drone and Elite Scavengers slowly disappear as the methods used to teach them and the knowledge of how to scavenge and create electric spears and singularity bombs is lost, with the last Elite Scavengers being seen in the Hunter’s campaign, which happens next in the timeline. In other words, the Artificer literally sent Scavengers into a dark age.
It takes until the time of the SAINT for Scavengers to show real signs of recovery, now appearing in larger numbers than before. And even THEN Scavengers never do anything like they did during the time of the Artificer. The Artificer plunged Scavengers into a dark age for countless years, and they STILL haven’t recovered.
And that’s not all. According to the wiki, Scavengers are afraid of Slugpups, most likely because they remember how the last time they killed one they were hit by the full force of an angry explosive lobbing goddess of destruction that slaughtered countless members of their kind. They are afraid of Slugpups in all campaigns, even the Saint’s. So even by the time of the Saint Scavengers know not to mess with Slugpups, presumably because the last time they did so is a legend among Scavengers by that point in time.
Hell, the Artificer’s existence even explains something about the Hunter. The reason that the Hunter starts with a negative reputation among Scavengers is because they look like the fucking Artificer. Scavengers look at the Hunter and see the goddess of vengeance and destruction that they’ve only ever heard of from stories.
Both of them have red fur and a scar on one eye, and will the time gap between campaigns, there’s a good chance that only a few Scavengers that saw the Artificer in person are even alive by that point in time (without even taking into account how the Artificer murdered so many Scavengers that it’s probably rare that a Scavenger saw them and lived to tell the tale), meaning that the Artificer is probably told about in Scavenger stories and her appearance would therefore differ, leaving the most obvious details like the scar on one eye and red fur.

me again !! :> i do really hope kira gets to be riptide pirate as well i think she's super cool !! also drey ferin is the best uncle ever and we need more of him and finn imo !! jay ferin is my favourite but i love gillion!!
do you have any really big headcanons? :> cause i love to hear everyones different ones
Jay Ferin is such a good choice dear friend! She's fucking awesome! Tell you what, lemme give you all the Jay Ferin headcanons I can possibly think of just for you!
-You know that thing Jay does, when she's especially stressed, angry or flustered? The only thing I can describe it as is as if she was making an audible keysmash with her mouth cause no words could possibly describe the emotions she wishes to convey.
I headcanon that this is something Ava used to do and Jay kinda picked it up by proximity.
-As a kid Jay would be an insanely curious child. She'd run off to something and explore a lot, touch everything she sees and she'd be very interested in how things work, which is why she is an amazing artificer now. But not only that, I imagine her being quite stubborn, never asking her mum for anything more than minor pointers when it comes to magic. Then she'd lock herself in her room for hours and practice on her own until she gets it right, refusing to ask for help. She'd be the type of person that learns best on her own mistakes and so, she'd seek solitude when there is something she needs to figure out.
-Ava would be the absolute biggest hype person for Jay when growing up. Anytime Jay had an idea for something she'd immediately jump on that and be excited about it even more than Jay is.
-Jay isn't necessairly hard to wake up, but there is one pet peeve she shall never forgive. Once she is already in bed and then they call her for something five minutes after she already got cozy, she will not move for the life of her. She's is the "I already ended my day, this is where I lay" kind of person. If Jay says she's done, you better respect that she's done xD
-Jay isn't the best at casual improvisation. For example when she has to make an impromptu song or rhyme, or sketch, she immediately blanks out. On the other hand she is insanely good at working under pressure and can literally come up with the most elaborate ruse on the spot if it means safety of her friends or if she has a bit of preparation. She never lets it show but sometimes she likes to lay awake at night and come up with scams she could do with Chip if the opportunity arises. I like to think that it used to be Chip's thing alone, but she got super into it after a while.
-She has this thing that she can have entire conversations with Chip without words. They can literally convey information to each other by stares alone. With Gill, on the other hand she can do the same but with feelings. Somehow the two of them just always know what the other is feeling and can transfer the emotions to one another without ever fully conveying it with words. It doesn't always provide them with ways to confront one another, but there is always this extra layer of understanding and sympathy which is why they rarely fight.
-Sometimes Jay hides food away from the rest of the crew xD Chip swallows things too fast to risk it and there is literally no telling what Gillion decides to throw overboard this time so she took a habit of protecting her favourite snacks from them just in case. Everyone kinda notices that there were more things on the shelf last night, but no one could possibly expect that it would be Jay stealing it away. They'll never know, she'll make sure of that 😈
-Jay is ambidextrous and she has the most precision in her hands out of the group.
-Sometimes when she has some free time Jay creates small metal or wooden figures that reseamble the members of her crew. She has made a figurine of Mei, Ava and Kira as well, and a secret small figurine of her father hidden carefully somewhere.
That'll be all for the time being, I Hope it was fun to read <3

🌧️ and 🎲 !
Yay thank you 💛
Self ship asks
🌧 Not everything is perfect... So one day everything just seems to go wrong. Nothing is working out like you thought it would and people are rude. You come home angry and tired and however else a bad day makes you feel. How would your F/O comfort you, or make your day a little brighter?
Ahaha this is perfect 👀
Okay so Albedo already has dinner prepared, so I just need to change into comfy clothes, then we can eat something (cuz I learned that if you feel like everything sucks, eating a hot meal sometimes is the best help)
Later we'll just sit in bed and cuddle. He lets me rest my head on his chest, runs his fingers through my hair and just listens to me rant (or if I can't talk anymore he'll tell me about his day or a new experiment instead)
🎲 You guys are setting up a campaign in DnD, what class/race do you play? What about your F/O? Who is more likely to be the dungeon master?
Big disclaimer that I've never properly played DnD myself and my knowledge is based off... Podcasts, youtube videos and a short phase of having DnD as a bit of a hyperfixation so if stuff like my understanding of classes and my ideas of what makes a good DM are kinda off... Yeah, that's why.
For me... I'd probably be a halfling. For the class I might just be a cleric or something cuz I actually enjoy playing healers. Either that or a warlock cuz they seem cool ckskdkd
As for Albedo, I'm REALLY not sure about race. If I had to say smth tho... I'd say either Tiefling or Dragonborn (for no reason other than I think they're cool and I think my boyfriend is cool so I'm mashing two cool things together in this headcanon.)
Orrrr he's the type to be practical and takes a gnome for the +2 intelligence cuz it would benefit his class because (drumroll please):
I just know he'd love being an artificer. It's pretty much perfect for him. No further comment needed.
I have a feeling that Albedo would make a great DM tbh? I think he'd be almost like a walking rulebook and since he's creative, inventive, and smart he'd probably come up with really great stories and have things planned out really well. Also I feel like his calm nature is probably really grounding. He lets people have their fun, but if things get too rowdy for whatever reason, it'll be easy for him to get things to calm down.
As for me, I do think I'd love coming up with stories and have even the smallest NPC planned out, but I know I couldn't tell them in a proper way cuz I'd get nervous and talk too fast (But if I'm not in the party myself, I could help Albedo with planning maybe 👀)

Hellraiser Fandom and The Invisibility of Women’s Abuse (Cont. w/commentary)
@chutzpahhooplah‘s tags:
#this is such a frustrating point of contention between white het hellraiser fanboys and the rest of us#it's utterly baffling that this is how they engage with his character bcs like you point out#women respond to pinhead differently. it never occurred to me that there even was another way to engage with his character!!#there's something so comforting in his straightforwardness. he has absolutely 0 artifice in his original incarnation.#that's why i vibbed with his character both sexually and emotionally#but as I said earlier the dude bros who only see him as this uber aggro Monster Predator Fiend#can't go beyond his teeth barring body horror torture porn aesthetic that is used in the promo material#he hits all of the sweet spots for guys who hate women and love torture and want to be So Fucking Rational and Logical#the same guys who worship the twee goblin lords of logic and reason ben shapiro and jordan peterson#Pinhead is to them a creature who is Calm and Reserved because he's a creature of logic bcs hell is a place of Order#but when he loses his composure and go all screaming angry misogynist#like in the comics and later films and TSG#it's Different because....idk. Reasons. Male loss of composure isn't bad if it isn't Tears.#or feeeeeeeeeeemoid emotions :/#ANYWAY that's a lot of words to say male fans of the show who like him as a general slasher and take away ALL of his nuance#and reduce and ignore Kirsty Cotton and her nuanced relationship with Pinhead#are fake fans.#also in a better world Darcy would be a modern Elvira.
Original post HERE.
Bolding is mine for emphasis.
These are such great points.
Regarding how easy it is to click into his actual characterization vs. the way men portray him, I totally agree. Part of my high level of annoyance with this shit is because it’s so baffling how much men rewrite this character in their own heads.
You aren’t the only one to notice the weird emphasis on the version of Pinhead in promo material and figurines who’s snarling with his teeth bared, and A) how different that is from his actual behavior in canon and B) how much men fucking love this mental image of the character. It’s something I noticed and also have heard from several other female fans as well.
I still can’t get over the grimacing figurine of Pinhead with fucking pants instead of a skirt. It was so weird.
Regarding the narrative of Hell being this place of Order and Rules etc. and how Pinhead is this creature of calm logic, and how fanboys can’t get enough of that element... it’s so on point that you say this, because I’ve always had a complicated relationship with the way Hellraiser fandom loves that concept so much. I can appreciate it, but I can also see it’s weak spots.
The funny thing is, I watched part two of the Leviathan doc where Peter Atkins and Tony Randall were discussing the creation of Leviathan and the Labyrinth. THAT was where the idea of Hell’s ordered nature came into being - they wanted to depict order as a source of horror - it’s why Leviathan is a shape in the sky and the labyrinth is so geometric. It was an aesthetic choice first and foremost.
The concept of Pinhead being a force of order has more to do with fan headcanon and the development of comic book characterization and story lines than it has to do with the integrity of the character in the films. I’m much more interested in it as an exploration of the themes than I am of using it as his greatest personality trait.
And yet, overemphasis on it always seems to pull away from the emotional undercurrent of what the cenobites are. It’s the thing that fanboys do all their mental masturbation over.
Order is essentially a word substituted for the possibility of empathy and moral judgement being something underlying Pinhead’s character, because those feelings “weaken” the character, while Order gives a great, easy explanation for why he might do empathetic things.

Headcanon: the Simm!Master is Neurodivergent (and probably on the Autism Spec)
(click on the word “neurodivergent” for a succinct explanation of the neurodiversity paradigm) Key: ND = neurodivergent.
Initial disclaimer: Though I identify as neurotypical, I am also chronically physically disabled, so it is important to me to demolish ableist ideology. So. In NO WAY does the ND (neurodivergent) state of this character justify, explain or cause anything he does that is considered “evil.”  IN. NO. WAY. On the contrary, people who identify as ND are more likely to be victims than perpetrators of violent crimes.
This headcanon has developed slowly over the entirety of my portrayal of this muse (so it’s taken two years to come to this conclusion).  It’s important to note that this idea does not originate with me, but is pretty precious to a number of ND Doctor Who fans ( @natalunasans , you asked me to tag you <3).  Initially, fellow Master muses  presented this idea to me, and I rejected it largely out fo fear of seeming to imply ideas counter to the above disclaimer.  I have since come to realize that it is possible to portray the Simm Master in such a way that separates his mental illnesses out from his moral reprehensibility.
This is of course complicated multiple times by the fact that the Master likely also has more than one “Personality Disorder” (a veritable worm-can of issues that psychologists still debate in praxis), as well as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Why do I think that the Simm Master is ND? For the following reasons drawn from canonical context:
--Low empathy, NOT to be confused with low compassion (though he has that too, but that’s a learned and morally based character flaw).  People who are ND tend to have difficulty relating to the affect (emotional state) of others in parallel situations, beyond an intellectual recognition of said emotions.  They experience confusion and challenges in this regard.   --Difficulty with innately grasping social cues and expectations.  The Master is an expert politician, capable of reading and manipulating others to his will, it’s true.  But anyone who identifies as ND, if they are also intelligent and perceptive, can learn these skills, and mimic them in social scenarios the acceptable behavioral formulas of which they have memorized.  Not only does the Master love to dress up in elaborate disguises to thwart his adversaries, evincing a love of artifice in general (see the entire Harold Saxon persona, as well as Mr. Razor), he Master  also shows that, when he is not trying to rehearse the “script,” he is extraordinarily intrusive, aggressive, and blunt, and not always for the sake of being intentionally cruel.   --Hyper-fixation and obsession.  Not an inherently bad thing at all. But the Master’s ability to, say, spend ten years fooling one companion of the Doctor into fulfilling his revenge scheme; or comprehensively grasp the entire complex socio-political structure of earth so well that he can win an election as a major world leader; or build an entire nuclear arsenal as well as a floating fortress city in under  two years; and so on and so forth, not to mention have a literal addiction to a childhood best friend turned rival, without the capacity to tunnel-vision.
--The “Savant” trope.  While it’s a HUGELY over-used and HUGELY exaggerated quasi-myth, there is allegedly a group of people who are ND, often identified as people with Asperger Syndrome, who are amazingly gifted in narrow academic, scientific, or artistic fields.  I’m on the fence about this one because the Master is gifted across the board, and this could easily be a matter of having an unfathomably high IQ (Intelligence Quotient), which exists in an entirely discrete dimension from ND traits.
--So-called “infodumping.”  He does it.  Not always, but he loves to describe, in intricate detail, his plans and plots, and is that always just a case of bragging? Maybe, maybe not.   --Difficulty grasping personal boundaries.  This one is trickier, and may have to do with a so-called “Personality Disorder,” or otherwise an Attachment Disorder, more than being ND.  But fixation on the Doctor: need I say more?
--So-called “naivety”.  Now I’m not a huge fan of the way that the media infantilizes ND people (see Sheldon in “Big Bang Theory”) so this is another one to approach with caution.  But a willingness to suspend disbelief is present in the Master at the oddest times: see his history of watching earth children’s television and believing it’s real, or his belief in the very far-fetched, fantastical “four-part gun” that Martha claimed to use to kill him.
--Difficulty regulating emotion under duress, or recognizing it in oneself.  The Master can manipulate the emotions of others easily, but he seems to have tremendous difficulty recognizing his own fluctuations. He has self-soothing techniques that are evident in canon, such as that odd tic of twisting his head in a circle on his neck, when he is overly excited OR overly upset, but these seem to be unconscious mechanisms.  And more often than not it leads to emotional explosions on his part.
--Hyper-stimulation (due to the “Drums”) leading to emotional agitation and exhaustion.  This is actually the biggest one imho.  The Master is so often keyed up, manic, aggressive, and angry because  these are very common emotional side effects of ND hyperstimulation, which basically means that the five senses are sending the brain an excess of information and it just shuts down, overwhelmed.  A deafening four-beat rhythm that started suddenly in childhood, that no one else can hear, that isolates you, that never leaves you alone, and that has mnemonic triggers to a moment in your youth when you felt like an inconsequential failure? Pretty sure that’d do the trick.
Thoughts, reactions, tag-ons welcome!!!!
