carol slowly regains her memories with the kree technology, until one night she finally remembers that maria was her wife—and everything makes sense again.

and she’s thrown into a deep depression because why didn’t maria ever say anything in the days after she came back to earth? all along they were a full fledged family, and carol had no idea to what extent. she was too ashamed to come home to them then, and now it’s too late. her wife—her best friend—is dead. and her daughter is missing once more.

she’s wracked with guilt. if she would’ve known, would’ve remembered sooner, would it have made a difference? would she have come home, changed the course of time and somehow stopped maria’s cancer from coming back, stopped monica from blipping?

in her waking moments carol fights all the harder to get monica back. and when she sleeps, she loses herself in the memories.

Is Disney ever going to let Carol and Maria out of the glass closet? No, probably not.

Am I going to watch The Marvels on steaming and soak up every bit of subtext coming out of Carol's fraught motherly relationship with Maria's daughter Monica who they co-parented (while co-habitating as partners for over a decade...)? Yes.

I'm also finally watching Ms Marvel to get a sense of how Kamala's story will work out - it's very promising that so much of her show is about fraught mother/daughter relationships imo. Especially since Kamala and her mom and her grandma all come to a better place of love and understanding for each other over s1 of her show.
