Tell me more about the significance of Good Guy™ Superman.

Ok I'm typing this all up a second time, a couple of days later, because the first time I typed it all I did it perfectly but it was on my laptop and the hellsite fuckin goofed and it's all gone now so that made me sad. I can't promise to hit all the points I wanted to hit but I'll do my best

We gotta start by clarifying that in the tags that triggered this ask I did specifically say that clark/kal-el/superman being a Good Boy is important to me. I note this because while I have very good justifications for why it's important to me that he's a Good Person™, I acknowledge that this is one of those cases where the facts may back me up, but it genuinely just comes down to matters of individual taste.

So, like, big picture here: superman is Moses. I've talked about this before, you've read about this before, this is more fact than opinion. The parallels are obvious, and loud, and obnoxiously repeated in online spaces just as much as in books such as up, up and oy vey (this is not a recommendation, just pointing out that it's universally acknowledged pretty much everywhere). I'm not going to waste my breath trying to convince you of this fact. Superman is Moses. Moses is, in Judaism, possibly the holiest man to ever live. The first in the prophets. As many of you may recall, in my lecture on Jewish superheros, I argued that Jewish ideas of prophecy found their way into the modern Jewish stories being told by the comic book authors creating the very first superheroes - the very first superhero, of course, being superman.

One noteworthy thing about prophecy as described by Maimonides? The most basic component of prophecy isn't actually talking to god or receiving holy visions, it's actually just... Doing good. Good™. Good as an action, good as an innate need, good for the people around you and the people of the whole world. Moses showed this tendency as a young man - privileged, raised in the house of the pharaoh, he couldn't stand seeing any man get beaten, even if he was a slave. He loses his home over this, the family who raised him. He sees a man getting unjustly punished, and he kills the oppressor over it. And when he goes out again the next day and sees two Hebrews fighting, he tries to stop this as well (Exodus 2). Moses is our holiest prophet; before he ever even acknowledges God's existence, he feels the need to do good and prevent evil; superman is Moses; superman must follow a similar path of goodness as an innate need followed by action.

That's all big picture stuff, though. There's the smaller stuff, too. Not my bigger analysis of comic book heroes and the ideas of prophecy in Maimonides' writing, because honestly that's just... A lot. When it comes down to it, it is so much more satisfying to me that Superman is a person.

He's the first superhero, right? And he's got this insane level of power not really often seen since. Any person who attempts to defeat him needs to use a mix of his one singular weakness and genuine cunning, because there's really no brute forcing your way passed fucking superman. So yeah, you could tell a story like that of the Boys (although I didn't make it past episode 3 of that, my apologies). You could tell a cynical story where terrible people do terrible things and it all gets waved away. But the boys isn't really a story about people who happen to get powers - it's a story about people who have power, positions of authority, government officials and the like, not just superpowers.

That's not Clark Kent's story. Clark Kent is an illegal immigrant who was raised by good people in secrecy. He's handed superpowers, yes, but very rarely power - he's a journalist with farmboy training, and his greatest nemesis is a billionaire who becomes the fucking president of the united states. He fought Hitler in WWII, did you know that? He represents good because it makes for a compelling story. The underdog who's secretly not an underdog at all, choosing every day to fight evil and represent truth (being a reporter is vital to both of these, in case you're wondering). Yeah, he's a bit of a shit dad to Connor, but him not being a perfect person doesn't make him not a good one, especially since - again - in my definition of good, goodness is an action, and one you constantly have to perform and perfect and adapt to changing times.

Going back to Judaism - in Jewish tradition, we all have the force of evil and the force of good inside of us (yetzer hara and yetzer hatov). The word yetzer comes from the same root as the word for creation - we are capable of creating evil and creating good. Superman represents hope and justice because he chooses every day to create good.

And that, in a nutshell, is why it is so important to me that Kal El-Clark Kent-Superman is a Good Guy. Because he can be.

hi! i know it must be kinga boring for you recive questions about castiel bc ppl are obsessed ober him for years but like the other person who asked you a few days ago, i follow you (and ply mcl) for like 10 years and ever since day one my fav boy has been tiel. till this day at the age of 22 he's my favorite and my comfort boy so i joke that he's not a fictional character anymore for me and that i know him personally at this point lol

and what kind of music crowstorm sings? like there are any bands that you listen and think "hey this would be in a crowstorm album!" (i have a playlist with this name btw lol). im probably wrong on this one but since this is my fav band i like to think that catfish and the bottlemen are the irl crowstorm, musically speaking

and the last one: another thing that gives me so much comfort is the lystiel friendship. not having present parents, being so closed off i know that lysander is such an important presence on tiel's life because he was basically the only close person he had (specially after the debrah fiasco); if lys didnt had taken the farm and went to college and bla bla bla do you think he would still be part of the band with castiel? im not sure if im mixing the canon with a fanfic i read a while ago (lol) but the band was more of a fun thing to lys, right? he liked writing most (i always imagined him getting into a literature degree or something like this). i also like to think that he helps tiel with lyrics at times, even if he's out of the band (in my head the canon is that they are best friends and pretty close till this day, i pretend lys never left our lives just like armin)

Castiel being a swiftie. No sorry, I don't think he would be. If candy likes her, I'm pretty sure he would try to listen. Also he is an open minded person for sure, so I'm sure he would be curious to listen and study what all the hype is about, it could also help as some sort of far away inspiration, but I don't see him being a fan.

What kind of songs Crowstorm sings This is hard to answer because my musical knowledge is pretty limited and I'm sure I would miss on lot of potential groups or singers that would fit well. And it would require too much research time to have a real detailed and clear answer, but I still did check a bit and here is a little list of songs/groups that I think would have a fitting vibe for Crowstorm

Castiel and Lys friendship. It was'nt mentionned much in UL/LL because I didnt wish to bring too much drama by mentioning Lys when he was not there for the players, but of course Lys and Cast always kept in touch. It is very clearly mentionned in Lys' AL that they keep in touch, that Lys helps Castiel write songs and Cast also like to come to his farm to have a break and spend time together. You should play it if you havent, you'll have a good chunk of Cast and Lys friendship :) However yeah I can confirm that Lys would not like to do it serisouly and professionally, but he'll be all the way around to support and help Cast.

Highly considering doing a Seven Deadly Sins rewrite myself bc man there's so much missed potential and honestly a lot of things that don't make sense or haven't been gone over enough-

My biggest gripe being the Goddess race, we barely know anything about them, the archangels were said to be oh-so-strong but 3 of them died not to long after being introduced- And my biggest gripe is that the author definitely pulled that "Bloody Ellie" thing out of his ass during the fight with Demon King Zeldris.

Like man, even the Demon race feels so lacklustre..

Oh! And don't get me started on Chaos!! Especially since its literally the entity that gets put into Arthur who's the main antagonist and villain of the sequel series!!!

Like, I'm pretty sure we don't know about chaos until it's actually revealed,,

Like in my mind, if I was to add/redo things- One of the things I'd do is make the Supreme Deity into a religious figure, being praised as the "Benevolent Goddess" among humans, setting up basically a religion- And maybe this could stem into the magic, such as human believing that the magic they hold was a blessing of the Supreme Deity.

And maybe also set up a clearer hierarchy system among the Goddess and Demon race.

I just want the Goddess race and Supreme Deity herself to play a bigger role cause man I don't really like how she was defeated within like the final 20 minutes of that one film.

Because I think it'd be so interesting to have humans actively worshiping the Goddess race, specifically dedicated to the Supreme Deity and the archangels.

Also, I'd have Chaos introduced a lot earlier- who knows, maybe I could throw in like a group that are worshippers of Chaos.

Tbh I'm just spit balling but it's mostly bc I'm so frustrated at simply how bad the author is at writing- Cause I feel like a lot of the time, he throws in ideas just because he thinks it's cool and doesn't elaborate and explore said ideas.

As I mentioned earlier, the whole "Bloody Ellie" thing ( a character who was established a pacifist in the Gloxinia + Drole flashbacks thing) as well the thing with Helbram where he talked about how fairies were captured and had their wings torn out (I believe we never hear anything about it again after Helbram tells us it), honestly many things.

Also, I just thought of another thing I'd change- Instead of having Derieri, Tarmiel and Sariel die useless deaths, I feel like we could've had Ludociel fight Esta/Mael when the Mael reveal happened bc I feel that would've been so much more impactful-

Because imagine, Ludociel finally fights the person who he thought "killed" his brother and before he goes for the finishing blow, the spell corrodes away and Ludociel is left with the shock and horror that he nearly killed his own brother.

And one more thing or else I'll be ranting forever, have Meliodas' and Elizabeth's relationship questioned and have them actually have to go through challenges

Have people question as to whether or not it was their relationship that trigger started the holy war, have other characters question the way he acts towards current Elizabeth, have Elizabeth have questions herself and wonder if the war was worth it- Let them have arguments!!

I think the only one they technically had was when Elizabeth wanted to rejoin the adventure at the start of season 2 if my memory serves me right.

But yeah.

It's just those little tweaks and add-ins that really begin to flesh it out to its potential, imo.

Modern au trans Ace has been consuming my mind lately so I thought I'll just share all of my headcanons or else I'll explode:

• Sabo was the first person he had come out to. It happened when they were around 9. Ace had always felt that something was "wrong" about him. That the way he acted, his interests and past times, and just how he would do things were "unnatural" or wierd". Once Ace became familiar with the conspet of transgenderism he just opened up to him, and was met with instant support.

• Immediately after this, Sabo gave Ace his (trademark) transgender haircut in the bathroom of Dadan's house. She actually entered it while they were there and upon seeing it she cried out of happyness. (Mothers know everything)

• Coming out to Garp was a bit harder for Ace since he wasn't sure how an older person would have reacted, I mean Garp just left there his grand"daughter" and came back to a grandson after all. But we all know that Garp would never discriminate, and plus now he has another grandson to train.

• Luffy arrived in his life after a full year after he had transitioned, so at first Ace wasn't sure how to exacly explain this to Luffy, but he did manage to open up to him after they officially became brothers. Luffy wasn't just an innocent kid, while he didn't fully understood concepts like transphobia, to him Ace is just his brother so if anyone is mean to him or calls him names he'll just kick their asses.

• Ace had been homeschooled for the 5 years that would have been him attending elementary school. Middle school was the first time he attended an actual school and at first he wasn't open or confident at all and was ready to just beat up anyone who tried to shit talk him.

• Surprisingly he made a few friends. They were mostly just Luffy's friends who were older than him or his friends's siblings, but he appreciated it anyway. His absolute best friend ever tho is Kuina. I hd her as non binary using she/they so its just trans supporting trans, and they also have like a million of other reasons to be friends but those were already pointed out.

• His top surgery was payed by none other than his father Newgate. The Whitebeards pirates would be just this one tatoo shop Ace works at that Newgate he opened after "retiring" from biker gangs and stuff.

• Obbligatory T4T Yamace, but we all already knew this, didn't we?

• Ace gets the best older trans guy advice from Franky. Because to me, he is just what every trans guy aspires to be, cool and hardboiled. And who wouldn't want to get advice from the dude who did his own top surgery in his father's mechanic shop at 15?

These are all from me, but feel free to add your own or elaborate on the ones you like.

Trans Ace is so real to me that I quite literally can't imagine him being cis. It's just so,,, Weird to me. And I absolutely love everything you said. I definitely think Sabo was the first one to know and the one who helped Ace the most with his transition, also telling Garp, who actually is way better (if you can say 'better' when something isn't even 'good' but yeah) at raising boys. At least he understands them better. So I think he wouldn't have a problem with it at all even if he's more on the "I don't really get it that much, kid, but as long as you're happy" type of vibe. I agree with everything,, When he was younger he really didn't interact with many people and usually preferred to be alone. Teachers considered him more of a problematic kid than anything, and always compared him to Sabo with the typical "how are you like this when your brother is just so polite and smart!?" but then Sabo always ends up fighting the teachers for saying that shit in front of the class and Sabo stops being so perfect in their eyes (also he starts rebelling himself a lot against the educational system lmao). And not to talk shit about Garp, but talking shit about Garp I'm sure Ace would get in trouble a lot and Garp wouldn't show up to the meetings with Ace's teachers. That only makes Ace feel lonelier and everyone thinks he's extremely troubled. When he's literally a sweetheart to both Sabo and Luffy,, When he meets Luffy's friends, he starts to open up to people. He still gets in a lot of trouble, honestly, but that's just him. I think his classmates find out about him being trans, of course, and not a lot of people are okay with that. He truly wants to fight them but he knows that if he keeps going like this he'll get expelled and he doesn't like the idea of leaving Sabo and Luffy alone ('doesn't like the idea' meaning he almost gets expelled and Sabo had to scold him and tell him that even though he has his own friends he doesn't know what he would do without him in school), so Luffy and Sabo are usually the one defending him a lot of the time since the teachers, even though they're chaotic, don't really hate them (because look at those cutie patooties how could you hate Luffy???? He gets along even with teachers). The Whitebeard pirates accept him with open arms and he finally feels he has a place to belong to. Newgate doesn't even offer to pay for the surgery, he just pays without telling him first because he knows Ace wouldn't have let him do it otherwise. He's so so grateful for them. And his brothers. And his friends. And everybody that has ever supported him. I think that he has lots of issues with depression and self-image and he often has a hard time when he acts impulsively, but Newgate always helps him. He grounds him. Gives him something to focus on. And Franky is soooo fun to be around. Newgate tells him to go see Franky and give him the money he owes him, and that's how they meet, basically. It's obvious he's trans because he goes shirtless all the time and scars are there and everything... And Ace just has to ask about his experience. Franky helps him gladly. And it's not only cathartic but also very comforting. He also meets Robin there!!!! Because married Frobin in this one. And I think Ace would absolutely love her because she keeps being oh so nice to him. She kind of reminds him of Makino, and it's extremely sweet. I think Ace now goes to help Franky from time to time when the Tattoo shop doesn't really need him there or, well, whenever he wants to because he also is extremely interested in bikes.

T4T Yamace my beloved.... Guys being guys. Dudes being dudes. I think they meet because Newgate tells Ace something about this man Kaido (leader of a gang) who owes him lots of money or something or did something very nasty to him yadda yadda Maybe they just have beef from when Newgate was into the gang stuff. And Ace keeps saying he should go and settle things with Kaido and beat him up for that, but Newgate is retired and he really, really doesn't give a single fuck about it. Lmao. Ace says he could take down Kaido himself. Newgate laughs. Ace is too proud. So he ends up looking for Kaido and fighting Yamato late at night in the street and,, Well. You know how it goes. They become daddy issues besties and turns out Yamato does not want to follow his dad's steps. Ace is curious about Yamato's experience because he doesn't seem to want to have surgery or anything, and they keep bonding over their pasts and family and Yamato ends up joining the friend group. And it's so cute. Newgate can see the kid is in love because every day he waits for Yamato to come pick him up to hang out. Or maybe he begs to get out earlier to go see Yamato. He keeps talking about Yamato,,, All the time. Even Sabo and Luffy are done with him. It's endearing.

Okay so I named this sideblog "plutos-THOUGHTS-and-sketches" so it's time to take up my promise on that

This is gonna be my ancestors, elders, and a little bit of skid, spirits (I'll elaborate on them in another post) and some miscellaneous hcs that should line up together and i hope that it doesn't interfere with any lore. Buckle up this is gonna be a long one

So! Let's start off with ancestors. What are they?

I like to think that they used to be skids but then willingly gave away their light. They're just tired of existing for eternity, you know? So they dropped their eternality (they could still be killed but then would be reborn- like through eden! But there weren't any widespread methods of doing that before and they still got reborn :( ) and became a mortal species we now know as ancestors. They. Well. Reproduced. And forgot their roots. They forgot why they always feel like they're missing a major part of them (their light), and they didn't understand why light healed them and made them feel euphoric. (Note that only some light can properly heal them. Like. They're basically humans. Fire WILL burn. But, say, a manta's light will feel caressing.)

So what's up with Elders, then?

Basically! They're normal ancestors. Except, with a twist: they didn't give away ALL of their light. Only some of it, really. But it's a permanent move anyways. They continue to have limited lifespans, but they're much, much longer than normal ancestors. And some of their skid physiology (is that the right term?) kicks in, letting them grow and grow for as long as they aren't dead. (They can't be reborn, though.) (And does that mean that skids before used to be giant? Yes. Does that also mean that skids who don't eden run get to be taller? Also yes.) so they just get to be the cool guys, who remain to be above the rest, containing the knowledge and power and potential.

And now I'll elaborate a bit on some of the specifics about all of this. Healing is basically relighting another skid, and there is a whole, high paying, high status job that's basically having the right type of light that can heal others instead of burning them. (Without it, all krill attacks would have been lethal. Even then, it's expensive as hell.)

Ancestors have the lifespan of a normal human and elders are basically five times that. Magic (spells) exist and they can only be cast by the most talented, the most full of light ancestors. This means that basically all elders can do spells if they put their mind to it.

Anyways about the thing where i said they always feel like they're missing a part of themselves. So they die, wake up (I'll elaborate on that more in another post that will include my spirit hcs) and go like "wow i feel great" because eden basically inserted some light into them

They all have normal names, but the Elders that we know don't share theirs anymore with normal ancestors because of an.... Event. (This is bordering on my au stuff so we'll skip over that. Let your imagination go wild) Which means that if a skid (i hc that all skids know elder names (search sky cotl elder names if you don't know them, they have names)) suddenly calls one by their name ancestors would be confused and Elders would be flashbanged and wary

Masks are a traditional thing! Some people replace them with face markings instead and some don't wear anything at all (but those are few), which means that some cultures that are disconnected from the norm don't wear masks (like the nine colored deer spirits. Take a look. Feudal lord is the only one with an actual mask and even then you can't convince me that it isn't just giant eyebrows)

Eden exploded (shattering) from darkness corruption overload. How that happened is up to you but I hc that Resh is a skid and was tired of seeing everyone dying so he researched and came up with that solution to make everyone immortal

thank you so much bub!! regarding the questions: the boys will surely come around to knowing since they kinda know yoongi's somehow associated with the vipers (in some way shape or form) and there's a low chance they'll react badly. our girl went through a series of physical torture so it'll take some time for her to heal. there will be a brief description of what happens to her body when she wakes up and sees herself -- i didn't go too into details with it though. also yes! yoongi and y/n are very similar to one another. i think it'd be really cool if i wrote a scene where yoongi does gets angry and for y/n because out of all the boys, he's a composed man who doesn't get easily triggered so..just imagine it oop-. he's a good man overall, and even back in chapter one when their relationship was falling apart, yoongi didn't actively engage in verbally tormenting y/n, though his absence and silence most definitely had hurt her a lot.

of the boys, there are three quiet men who prefers their silence, all of them having chosen to be that way mostly due to how they were raised as children. these boys are yoongi, taehyung, and jungkook. perhaps i'll elaborate it further in the series itself but basically:

with yoongi, there's already a bit of context with him. he grew up being silenced and invisible so he's used to be quiet for the most part. he's a sincere man but does have a difficult time expressing his emotions (he's good at showing his lovers that he cares for them though, yoongi's kinda like a word of affirmation type of guy, ironically) -- emotions like the flawed part of being a human: anger, upset, sadness, etc.

we got a little bit of taehyung during the london arc. he's a hacker so he's mostly holed up in his lab and prefers not to socialize with the human population, so he's the type to be silent and observant rather than joining in the crowd and conversing. he's not someone who will feel the need to fill up the silence of a room and for the most part when he's with y/n (back when they were still together), they were always comfortable in their silence together. the two of them kinda just knows what's on the other's mind without having to say a thing

as with jungkook, there's not much around him just yet but if you look back at the flashback with the boys' pov (chapter 16), there was something jin said to namjoon during one of their disputes, saying "jungkook has gone completely silent" and that indicated a bit of his relationship with y/n, it being the fact that he was more open and talkative when y/n was around. you'll come to see in future chapters that y/n and jungkook relied on each other a lot back in the days. he loved her mostly through actions but always tried his best to speak up and change for the better for her, and when y/n left their life, it took some time to have jungkook coming back from being so silent.

there's only been one chapter to sum up the feelings of the boys and how the divorce of namjoon and y/n affected them but all in all, it most definitely hurt them in more than one way.

We are having Jazz Au thoughts today

let's settle with some timeline, for everyone's sanity lol

this one is discussed with @lilspacewolfie as well!

in this weird universe every jazz club would have their own painted singers. so whoever's walking around with a painted face they must be a renowned club owner or singers. the musicians are all masked to their own style of mask/club. the more elaborate their masks and face paint, the more popular / expensive / important they are. The setting is around 70s-80s era ( i mix them up anyway, you can fit them in whichever era that you like be in 20s-30s or so, im basing mine from noir films possibly )

Copia for the sake of this story being linear is a MtF.

The main Plot : Terzo falling in love with Secondo's new singer. Secondo is wary, thinking that Terzo is going to swoop Copia away from his club only to find out Copia was reciprocating Terzo's feelings.

Copia is taller than Terzo, about a foot or so. Terzo's head rests perfectly around Copia's booba's height ( this is important because i say so)

here comes a series of What Ifs : i like this one because you can literally just choose which one you vibe to.

Secondo met Copia while he was walking behind a diner, he heard Copia sang and he looked for who the owner of that voice could be? fastforwardd he found out its Copia who's washing the dishes at the back of some restaurant/diner what have you. He offered Copia a job, a new and better job thatwouldl pay much better. Copia also told him about her situation, to which Secondo helps her by hooking her up with a surgeon that agrees to gave her top surgeries and other gender conforming surgeries. ''I'll make a star out of you.'' and he really did. Over time Secondo grows affectionate of her, and Copia enjoys his soft gestures of love because he makes her feel like a woman. - Which leads to currently where Terzo comes to the picture.

2. Terzo knows Copia before the transition takes place. The two of them had been together for a long time. After a while Terzo introduces Copia to Secondo. ''Brother didnt you said you wanted a singer?'' he said. ''I want a woman'' Secondo bantered back. ''She is'' Terzo replied. - This brings back to the part where Secondo sponsors Copia with the surgeries. This part of the story shows Terzo taking care of Copia, him watching Copia going through all the changes, being supportive of her and they ended up where they are now.

Copia works in Secondo's club as their inhouse singer together with the band. But what you said, didn't Copia had a baby? as per an anon asking about it?

The baby's name is Dante ( Dante evolved from Plushia from another AU) but yes anons calls the baby Plushia. also i just imagine the baby is just soft and cute so Copia nicknames his Plushia.

lets go through where did the baby comes from first: 1. The baby was from a previous marriage. Copia was wed with someone else and after telling the wife that he is trans, they are divorced and Copia gets the baby (surprisingly, he was sure he couldnt get it but fate favours him) 2. The baby was from his late sister who might have died , so he decided to take the baby as his own.

Does Secondo / Terzo knows about the baby?

Secondo : Going with the first What If , Secondo getting to know Copia more will learn about the baby. He sometimes does came over to take care of the baby as well (copia being surprised how good he is with babies). The moment Secondo learns that his brother is taking interest with Copia, he intentionally brings up the fact that Copia has a son just to see his reaction. Would he be serious about Copia? or was it just a fling? He's glad that Terzo decided to take it seriously.

Terzo :

Terzo taking care of the baby since before the transition as if it was their own after all.

Terzo learning about the baby after he came home with Copia one night. He is surprised but he ends up growing fond of the child. He would try to help Copia as much as he can with the baby, as if they've been living together.

Lets talk about the Ghouls a bit

The ghouls has no elemental powers in this au, however theyre not exactly human either. They are definitely creatures from a different place that shares the same space as the humans. Often known for their musical abilities and superhuman strengths, which makes them useful and handy.

Each club has their own set of ghouls that either stayed or come and go. Most of the time they do stayed to one club/premises. They wore masks that they dont take off unless by the owners of the place, their boss basically.

oh there are ghouls fight clubs btw, Ghoul Fights are often done in the basement of the clubs (diff clubs each week or so). These are just places where people come to bet on their fav ghoul to fight, also earning the club to earn some extra cash. The winning ghouls also gets a bit of their share as well.

Ghouls are mostly active when the sun sets and will rest when the sun rises. You dont see them in the morning. Nobody really knows where they rest/live.

For sure!

Perhaps the broadest and most egregious thing I keep encountering is super special omnipotent characters. SJM loves to heap on unlikely inheritances, never-before-seen powers, connections to gods, etc., onto the same person. I think there's real fun to be had with overpowered characters, but in her writing, it's purely a bestowing of authorial favor. And it's EVERY time. The protagonist gets the most powers and advantages; secondary characters get less but still have insane, impossible gifts compared to most people in the world; and if any of the heroes misbehave, they lose what makes them special as a consequence.

The reason I call this a crutch and not just an annoyance is because her characters aren't very strong—you know, writing wise. They act inconsistently, and she has no sense of nuance or moral gray area when writing their decisions. Sooo I'm not sure whether giving them super-special-awesome powers is shorthand to let the reader know who to like (e.g. the protag has seven magic powers, therefore she is the coolest, therefore she should be liked the most)? Or if it's an attempt to make the characters more interesting, or what? But it's tiring and unnecessary. The truth is that if you hand me a well-written character, whether they're a scruffy nobody or have godlike powers, I'll like them!

Related to the superpowers is the way the stakes of the story make insane jumps and become impersonal. In short, her plots aren't very good. Later villains are one-note, moustache-twirling forces of evil who are going to destroy the entire world for no reason unless the heroes stop them. Basically, SJM uses the highest stakes imaginable (world blows up, etc.) in lieu of planning out a plot with any intrigue or complexity.

A lot of new authors have bought into the idea of a Force of Evil rather than a villain, some nebulous badness that must be defeated. And to me, that's lazy writing. Come up with an interesting reason for someone to oppose your heroes! Give me a villain and a plot!

Anyway, to accomplish these stakes half the time, she has to retcon everything. It's another side effect of her not planning out her world or her story: she finds herself stuck in a corner, having to make something up. (It's also a side effect of her work no longer being edited.) This is absolutely a crutch, and she leans all her weight on it. She presents things that contradict earlier writing in order to achieve:

more powers bestowed upon the protagonist (Even though we know her heritage already, she is ALSO related to ANOTHER magical being!)

an even bigger bad force (I know we said the last guy was the only one who could use the demon powers, but now there's another one who is somehow worse!)

moving characters from the Good to Bad category or vise versa (Actually he never did that bad thing earlier! He's never done anything wrong in his life!)

I see a lot of that last bullet point especially in other books. Rather than character development, some authors spring for explaining away a character's crimes. Hastily wiping clean the slate rather than letting a story work through anything. Boooooo.

Retconning is straight up awful writing and I'm tired of seeing it. It's so much fun to create a world and rules within it, and then make characters work within those limits! Breaking those rules very occasionally can be such a great dramatic hit. But constantly? No. Stop lying to me in every book. >:[

Last but not least, SJM needed a way for all of her female characters to be sad and frightened and undeniably damaged, and it's rape trauma. Around every figurative corner is another woman with PTSD from rape. It's a shortcut to get the audience's sympathy and show you that a character is a broken woman who needs love. But please note that several of her male characters have also been raped, and that's just kind of :/ and never brought up again. And while some authors have written characters with rape trauma and done it well, many have not. At all.

So yeah, I wish new authors wouldn't copy the class clown's homework.

Not really a question but i’d just like to express that i’m a huge can of your fic, i’ve read it since chapter 1 and have been sucked in ever since. majority of the 0309 content made by fans often have them terribly mischaracterize making lots of people end up hating the ship instead cause all they think the fans are capable of doing are creating terrible stuff of them and just set a bad impression on the ship even when is just supposed to be a silly pairing cause milgram doesnt run on romance!! T__T including me i used to like (not like it too much) to say the least though i tried to be more open to it cause i was starving on fan content and just went on ahead on ao3 and said “fuck it i’m reading a fic of them” to which i did .. some of the fics are questionable though when i found yours i just knew it would be good from the start. The way you characterized Fuuta and his experience with his crime was just ODBAJhsjsjd /pos. The way you potrayed Mikoto’s social life, ideals and personality is so so close to his canon one if not that its quite exactly the same!! (to how i imagined it atleast) its refreshing to see people characterize him as someone that isnt a ‘big top hottie thats overly flirty and is an asshole and doesnt care about anyone’s feelings’ and the way you really showed and expanded the dynamic they’d have together (in an au) atleast was just well done, you elaborated it well in the fic. most of the people i’ve seen just makes them grumpy x sunshine, etc etc tropes not that its bad but i think they’d have more to if than just that especially with their crimes and ideals involved and how they view life. if you’d open a twitter account i’d totally support you like hell, big time i’d love to hear more about your thoughts on 0309, Mikoto / Milgram in general and maybe give your fic more attention it deserves one way or another <33 chapters are already 8/10 done! i cant believe its nearly done aswell. i’m not huge into shipping but i love the way you write the characters (even the side! Yuno + Mahiru + Shidou’s characterization is so good) pleaase give yourself more credit as a good writer in the milgram fandom!! i know you’re a busy person anyway (you seem like one) though i just wanna say thank you for taking the time to write life’s reflection and the other oneshot you wrote. thank you so much!! i havent delved much into other milgram fanfics, in this case talking specifically about 0309 because i know from past experiences in different fandoms that whenever i did that i'd become so worried about my own characterization that i just ended up dropping the entire idea and never writing it again.

writing a slash pairing the milgram fandom is a bit... i guess probably frowned upon, depending on who you ask. it's not meant to be a shipping scene but where theres a will theres a way lol. ive become really fascinated by their made-up dynamic. mikoto and fuuta have barely any canon interactions and whenever they did-- it was obvious that they don't even like the other. why ship that? well i can't provide an answer for everyone, but for me it's just because i like reading about two broken people healing and why not add a tinge of almost-enemies to lovers in there? lol

its funny you mention a twitter because i did make one about a month ago but immediately abandoned it because i didn't plan on using it... i guess i could though! i just end up overthinking everything i post but it would be nice to engage a little more with like-minded (read: 0309 truthers /hj) people

As for yamato and freminet, as i said yamato is the ultimate inventor so he's good with machine and all that...and i just think with his personality he would dote on freminet a lot!! Yamato is very social so i can just imagine him being very happy to find someone with a similar interest and all. He can be a Lot so freminet would probably get overwhelmed by his energy at first but yamato would be understanding and encouraging and i think after a bit more of time they could get along very well...building robots together and stuff...maybe yamato could teach freminet to create some stuff, idk i just think they would be very wholesome! I think it’s a very interesting dichotomy to think of considering vader non existent respect of boundaries and terrifying force (ha, pun intended) yet that also what could help obi wan

Oh goodness haha. I will attempt to elaborate, but please do assume that everything I'm saying has a bit of tongue-in-cheek about it! I mostly just think it's hot. And the word "cure" is definitely facetious; I image it's more of a nice break.

I want to emphasize that it's Obi-Wan being kept in subspace that would feel good. Like, if Vader pushed his boundaries and Obi-Wan wasn't in subspace, it wouldn't work the same. I just happen to imagine Obi-Wan very easily slipping into subspace with Anakin/Vader. Submitting is how he interacts with the force and he equates Anakin with the force. He also has a punishment/penitence-seeking streak around Anakin that might manifest as pleasure in giving himself over completely.

Okay, but the OCD. On the most basic level, say Obi-Wan reaches for his beard. Alone, Obi-Wan would have to tell himself "don't do it," physically restrain his own hand from moving to his chin, and probably think for several minutes, "don't touch it, don't do it, or you're a bad person who can't control himself" while his brain was simultaneously telling him, "touch it, do it, you have to, you have to or it's wrong." There's not really a big "positive" reinforcement possible here; either it feels wrong or he feels like a failure, and it takes a long time to repeat it enough that he feels the payoff.

BUT if Anakin/Vader saw his hand twitch toward his face and said, "Don't touch your beard," then the usual thought process is interrupted and altered; now it's "I'm not allowed to touch my beard, external rules say so," and it allows the rush of winning the approval/completing the task for someone who is invested. There's still the discomfort of not being able to satisfy the itch, but there is at least the immediate payoff of submission to a lover's will (if you imagine him as capable of enjoying this submission.)

I guess I just imagine Vader would be more focused and attentive to these things than Anakin, just because he spends millions of taxpayer credits to get his torture toy, and has nothing else to do that he actually cares about. (Anakin cares about a few things.) Humiliation could potentially be a part of the whole mess, too, but I'll not go into that right now.

So basically, it's not that I want Vader to force-hold Obi-Wan's hand away from his beard. It's that I want him to give Obi-Wan commands that interrupt Obi-Wan's OCD thought processes. I hope that makes sense!

Whatever. Hi. This man baffles the mind but I wanted to get down my thoughts on him before his s2 song drops. I'm gonna skip over providing evidence cuz I'm not writing all that shit again. If you want elaborations just ask!!

S1 Kazui theory below & if I'm far enough off base I will die in a parking lot!!

The details of the actual events are muddy and I'm scared, and not the main point of my analysis anyway, skip below for the juicier stuff, but my theory goes as follows

He and his wife get married, all is fun and lovely

Kazui is a liar boy tm. more on that later.

She starts feeling distant and sad :(

He pursues his career. in the process he meets Bar Lady

As he does this, he's spending noticeably less time with wife. She doesn't know what's going on. It adds to the worries she's already fostered, watching him lie through their marriage and all.

Networking with Bar Lady becomes vital for his growth in Career(tm)

He doesn't cheat on his wife. (at least not emotionally? Things might have escalated, but I don't think he fell for her. The way he acts is cordial. He wears his ring blatantly. If it did escalate, it's probably because she wanted it to, and he didn't see a problem with it because he didn't actually love her. It's a chess move.)

He tells his wife about it. "I've failed before when prioritizing emotions. I'll never act on my feelings ever again." -- I think he either started feeling guilty and confessed, or his 'networking' worked and got him an impressive gig, and he told her in excitement.

As said, she's been watching his tendencies for a long time now. Worrying for their relationship, trying to communicate but getting nothing out of him. She might even have started worrying that something is wrong with her? He always acts like the perfect man, and never shows the dark underbelly that humans have- worrying about her own troubles next to his 'perfection' isn't out of he question, in my opinion. But learning about this- straws and camels, you know

All that, and, or, it's possible that he did fall for the Bar Lady, whatever. Maybe he told wife he didn't love her anymore. Or maybe she told him she knew something was up with him, and he needed to sort himself out. Maybe wife died, maybe bar lady died, maybe he died. I can't claim to know exactly what went down, what I really want to tackle is how I think Kazui approaches life

That is, it's all a play. All of it.

Growing up, and becoming a 'good, responsible adult' -- This is something he idealized, internalized, obsessed over, and acted out as perfectly as he could manage.

And that's the problem. He's never not thinking about his role in society, even here, in the minor 'society' of this prison-- He's so focused on this role of his, but he never actually understood what goes on behind the scenes of a 'good, responsible adult'.

It became a matter of ignoring every emotion. And his fatal flaw, as he sees it-- what killed another, and what ruined the 'perfect life' he was achieving, was emotion. He 'dared to dream' -- I interpret this lament of his as being about his career, aspiring for 'bigger and better' rather than settling for the average 'pays-the-bills' kind of work that a typical 'responsible adult' might do.

That, and speaking to his wife honestly for the first time about it. Imagining that he could bring a bit of truth into this 'picture-perfect marriage' , reveal a bit of what laid behind his curtain, get emotional, just a little, and that- as far as he can tell- leading to her death. When we affirmed him, it affirmed these ideas-- So he still has yet to wrap his head around exactly what had happened.

In his mind, lies are good. Normal. Everybody does it.

Emotions are useless. Remorse is useless. Things like that only bring about pain.

In the preview of "Cat", he seems frustrated-- Of course he is, because the worldview he was assured is right just doesn't line up with reality. The fact of that has been brought front and center through milgram, and some part of him understands, on some level, that lying as much as he does isn't good. It's killed someone. But he doesn't know the first thing about how to cope with that, to even accept that, really-- and I think being told he's 'forgiven' has only worsened his ability to make sense of it.

Right now, while he's trying to act unbothered and be a rock for the younglings, I think he's actually feeling very frustrated and confused. But as he does, as he always does, he suppresses and ignores it until milgram yanks it from the depths of his heart.

one more note, since I'm not sure where to smoothly fit it- I can't say I'm convinced he actually loves his wife. He seems to care a great deal about her, has fun with her, and maybe thinks he loves her? Maybe. But proper love, the kind that she deserved, is something that he just can't grasp with his current approach to emotions.

I also think it's very possible that he only married her because it's 'what you do'. The ideal image of an adult, in his mind, is married. He liked her enough to play house... But for her to go and die, and plunge his life into all this-- While I think he might be genuinely grieving, at least a little, he still seems to be kind of cold about it? Hard to tell amidst his lying habits, but I wouldn't put it past him to sort of blame her for his current situation. Everything was going to script until she up and died, after all.

Can't say for sure if he's that dark, but I wouldn't be surprised either way, is what I'm saying.

All in all, though-- Life is a play. Everything follows a tried and true script.

Going off-script is something that always has- but especially now- left him baffled, lost, and very scared.

I think he's going to cling to his role with everything he has, until Milgram has not only ripped away his mask, but torn it to a thousand pieces.

okay its mostly me just vibing with it big time but . ill try . Primarily interpretation off of canon . bolded for closer to canon ideas or what eva

He ruminates on things constantly. That is more of a personality thing, but I imagine him having repetition based rituals with phrases. This happens with everything he does, all the time.

Say he's working on some constructs; there is always a constant chant he has to repeat to at least feel like things will work out at all. It's at the state of him not bothering to go against it (the worst state compulsions can be in, IMO). He does this with a low voice, others can hear him whispering to himself. This obviously causes a lot of lapses in concentration.

I imagine this also linking to his "odd" behavior- like refusing to be visible to the public. It isn't just a random quirk, there is a slight element of unease and paranoia aside from being socially ambivalent (related to not grasping the social norms of normal bugs). Too bad mate you're literally a god so people worship you LOL...

Crowds are overwhelming, the same applies to talking to normal bugs who don't act anything like you do. Not to mention obsessions spiking up when stressed out. Plus, if he is doing something "unnecessary", he won't be able to overwork himself to give in to the comforting certainty of a routine+ritual combo.

Another much heavier headcanon of mine; he takes notes of every single thing rigorously. Counting, timing and repeating yet again.

Back to the ruminating, I'll say things not standing the test of time is the thing he fixates the most on. It gets applied to everything, a constant fear induced obsession. Said obsession clouds judgement, no matter how rational he is.

Also, I doubt foresight applies infinitely, it must have a limit for certain. You could say foresight would make someone less anxious- however it could easily be a nightmare if you add in a bit of neuroticism.

I take his failure to accept (or avoidance of) temporality as an intrinsic fear of disarray and (perceived) imperfection since that is related to his primary obsession.

Probably the most common ship (and the only one that isn't a same-gender ship) I have on this list, but honestly it's the only fandom-agreed ship that actually makes sense to me (mostly because of all my LGBT HCs) and it's just really frikin sweet and there's a lot of ship fuel is the actual show

Thirteen and Fourteen

Unlucky X Double lucky, no matter what I like this ship and will stick by it no matter what, although I do like to think of this one as a wavership instead of just a straight up romance

Fifteen and Sixteen

Opposites? Yes (A quiet, serious step squad and a loud, fun-loving square), but do I love this ship? Also yes! They're basically magnets (metaphor) and also I imagine Sixteen changing into isosceles triangle form (1+2+3+4+3+2+1) to try to impress Fifteen but Fifteen is just like "Sixteen sweetie I already love you no matter what shape you make" and then Sixteen gets so flustered she just splits into the four Fours

Seventeen and Eighteen

"Sunset this is the third ship you ship where the numbers are right next to each other in numerical order" hush these are my ships I get to ship Seventeen and Eighteen if I want to and I do ship them so I will talk about it, I imagine them trying to spend quality time together but it always ends up failing because I imagine that Eighteen hates trying to spend hours painting because because the only movements you can make while painting without ruining it all is the simple brush strokes, and Eighteen's idea for quality time is riding on the rays track with the people he cares about (both platonically and romantically) and Seventeen is afraid of heights, but they both still love each other nonetheless

Twenty-Four, Twenty-Five, Twenty-Seven, and Twenty-Eight

The polyamorous lesbian foursome that coincidentally consist of all composite numbers, Twenty-Five and Twenty-Eight steal each other's oatmeal cream pies 24/7 but they all love each other the same, and Twenty-Four likes to shine her rays when it's dark so that Twenty-Seven doesn't have to be scared, and all four of them will have fun forming both 2D and 3D shapes together

Forty-Five and Forty-Nine

I kid you not when I say that I thought of this ship while making this post, but I will not let this ship go now that I've thought about it! They both love each other a lot but they used to think step squads and squares being in relationships is forbidden because they think the annual steps vs squares treasure hunts mean feuds between them (they realized it was all just fun and games when they realized that Thirty-Six is both a square and a step squad) and even when they realized that step squads and squares are cool with each other they still keep their relationship a secret because they're both not ready to announce it to the world yet

There's a moment of brief panic. Renee knows you saw her camera flash, and can only imagine the ideas that are running through your head. But her intention wasn't to be creepy!! She just didn't realize the cute flying Pokémon was only fluttering down to land on your shoulder. And now she's faced with a dilemma.

"Hi!" She shouts before she can dwell too long. Her small wave is sheepish, but she doesn't hesitate walking over to you, hands fluttering over her camera. "Hello! Sorry about that. I didn't realize your Pokémon was, well, your Pokémon. Thought it was a wild one coming down for food. . ."

Renee gestures around at the world, the busy street lined with plenty of dropped snacks for any Pokémon looking.

"A-anyway, I'm sorry again, for taking your picture without asking." She lifts her camera, then flips it around to display the photo. "But if it helps, it's a great photo! Not to toot my own horn, but what a snapshot, right? You're laughing, and your Pokémon is mid-landing, and it's beautiful!"

You flush, not used to being so openly complimented by strangers. Renee, noticing, also grows a little red.

"Thank you." You say, before she can sputter another apology.

"Do you want it?" Renee asks. "The photo? I can develop it and get it to you! Hell, I'll do a whole photo shoot with you and your Pokémon, to prove I'm not some creep taking photos of strangers." She toes the ground, grinning lopsided from behind her camera. "Otherwise I'll delete it, your call."

You consider it, studying the photo some more. Your Pokémon makes a happy noise from your shoulder, seemingly pleased with its captured visage.

"How would you get the photo to me?" You ask. "If you developed it."

"Oh!" Renee wastes no time flipping out her phone. "I'd just need your number! And then I'd text ya when the photo's ready! Or photos, if you accept my shoot offer." She gives your Pokémon a starry-eyed smile. "Which I hope you do! I've been scouring the region for a cutie like yours, and I'd love a chance to photograph it more!"

Scouring? You wonder what she's up to, and why she needs to photograph your Pokémon so bad. Asking in the middle of the busy street seems not ideal, however.

"Why don't we talk more somewhere less crowded." You suggest, elaborating when Renee cocks her head at you. "There's a cafe down the street. It's quiet there, and you can explain more about this shoot to me, so I can decide if I want to do it or not."

It doesn't take long for Renee to start nodding. "Oh, definitely! Yeah, I can do that!! Lead the way!"

You turn towards the cafe, feeling Renee's arm press to yours as she follows you, diligently at your side. Your hand twitches as it brushes hers, but she says nothing, only pinching the hem of your shirt in an attempt to not be lost to the crowd.
