List of dramas that I am watching or want to watch, just for personal record reasons:

Cdramas:

The ingenious one (36/36): this drama has blown me away so far with its incredibly nuanced and sharp writing, its love stories between all the major couples and the absolutely magnificent cinematography. FINISHED verdict: HIGHLIGHT drama of the year for me so far. Smart, engaging, complicated, peak romance of all sorts, just what the doctor ordered tbh (overly long review can be found in my tags). 9.5

Chang Feng Du (40/40): I did not realise how close to the end I was. This drama is very pleasant and I adore our mains, but sadly except for a few highlights (the early beating gjs put on himself, the destruction of the gu family and the aftermath, the battle for wangdu) the writing hasn’t been able to keep the narrative tension up which is sad. FINSHED verdict: Very pretty and engaging in the beginning kinda loses me in the second half and then fizzles out emotionally, doesn't crash and burn but doesn't exactly stick the landing either 6.5

Gone with the rain (10/30): adore the gremlin4gremlin couple and from the spoilers I’ve seen not gonna adore much else

An ancient love song (1/16): incredible first episode and with only 30 min per ep and 16 eps in total this is gonna be a short fun ride I hope ( with lots of angst and tears naturally).

Here we meet again (18/32): started this for Wu Qian playing to type and Zhang BinBin being pretty but oh boy I’m struggling I just don’t care about the conflicts and in s surprising twist, I like the flashbacks to high school much much more, which is very funny if you think about the fact that the reason I started liking wu qian in the first place was because of her show stealing performance in the flashbacks of My Sunshine. I’ve been promised kisses in the near future so I’m gonna hold out till then but this might end up another drop.

Hidden Love (5/25): this one promises to be v sweet and kinda short but oh my god I have so many dramas on my plate rn so this might end up the first drop.

Till the end of the moon (22/40): I think I watched ep 1 when it started but then I got busy and now I am just staring at gifsets and crying, it’s definitely on the list to watch tho.

Heroes (6?/38): I started this a while ago, was really into it and then got busy… dammit. I might just rewatch the beginning so I can remember most of the set up for sure but man the visuals on this were so good, aaaa liu yuning.

Blood of youth (0/40): the last 12 months really have spoiled us with interesting looking wuxia dramas and this one is definitely on the list, I have been gifbaited once again.

Ray of light (0/30): usually hs dramas are something I avoid, but because I will not be watching the longest promise, for reasons, and bc @storge is a gifmaking temptress, this has made it on the list.

The legend of anle (0/39): Lmao trust YOUKU to screw up the release with bad subs only 1 ep even for vips and no released schedule… but at least I can put this on the backburner for now. Lmao should have known not to trust a youku dilreba drama, the tl has soundingly spoken and I'm gonna avoid this.

Ancient Detective (0/24): I was recced this by a friend when I mentioned my love for wuxia dramas, and since it’s almost shockingly short for a cdrama it’s on the list. EDIT: this got @purplehanfus seal of approval so it is def going up the list and since it's complete I'll probably at least watch it before the ongoing ones.

Butterflied love (0/22): see I barely made this post and already forgot about the screencap that got me started on writing it, the screencapa look great, but the drama is on mango, so who knows when I’ll truly be able to watch this

When I fly towards you (0/24): Well, I wasn't interested bc modern youth drama, but then I heard it described as "updated It Started with a Kiss" and... I'm weak? ISWAK was pretty much my crack gateway into asian dramas and while IDK if i could rewatch it today, something in me will always love this kind of story. Maybe it's like a quick palate cleanser in between since apparently eps are only about 30 mins.

Mysterious Lotus Casebook(0/40): CHENG YIIIII, in a possibly bromantic role? Or maybe het romance, I'll take it all. Plus I've already seen he's bleeding copious amounts as per his contract, so that's most of the checklist done.

Lost You Forever (0/??): because nature abhors a vacuum I apparently must have?? A minimum to watch pile and this actually and genuinely looks good??? A Yang Zi drama in 2023??? The mind boggles. Anyway I've been reading the recaps with delight, and am def going to watch this when part two airs in a couple of months but until then I have a thankful reprieve...

Kdramas:

See you in my 19th life (4/12): since kdramas release so slowly this is on the backburner but it does have some great gifsets that keep enticing meee

King the land (2/16): I am watching this for junho but it is kinda hard bc I have so much else on my plate and while I don’t mind a classic romcom type story I feel I need a bit more of an emotional hook

Story of the nine-tailed 1938 (0/16): so so many gorgeous and hilarious gifsets so little time. I loved season one so so much and the fact that this focuses on the brotherly relationship?? Extremely smart writing decisions were made!

The red sleeve (0/16): I blame @dangermousie for this she keeps reblogging angsts junho on my dash and I am but god’s weakest warrior.

Love tractor (0/8): gay himbo farmboy falls in love?? You bet this is on the list

Lady durian (0/?): ok this is only on the list for crack reasons but, daughter in law is in love with mother in law and both women are like 40+ truly kdramas have entered a new era and I kinda wanna be here for that

EDIT: Revenant (0/12): Kim Tae Ri in a spooky drama? POSSIBLY POSSESSED KIM TAE RI??? how could i forget to put her on this list, plus it was written by the Kingdom writer and I adore that drama plus it's only 12 eps which is smart in this case so... let's hope i get to it at some point D:

My dearest (2/20): I checked this out because it's got pretty much everything going for it from a production standpoint and boy did the first two eps deliver. This has got 2 seasons though so I'll probably wait until the second season is airing, since it won't be too long till season 2 or so the internet tells me.

My lovely liar (0/16): minhyun learned to act and I wanna see it happen!!

Jdramas:

Our dining table (2/10): ok this category is gonna be a bit shorter bc I haven’t watched too much drama recently but omg the gifs for this I am just crying thinking about it they look so cute??

Jack o‘frost (0/6): people have recced it and it’s short so here it is.

Utsukushii kare s2 (0/4): Season 1 was an unexpected delight so I hope s2 works just as well.

She loves to cook and she loves to eat (0/10): the manga for this is amazing (and hungry making) so I hope this adaptation holds up.

Ok this list is in no way exhaustive (well except for me being exhausted just trying toward this down) and probably subject to change ( I haven’t even looked at thaidramas or twdramas I gotta stop for now) but hopefully this will keep me on the ball and maybe I can add to it whenever a new tempting gifset crosses my dash…

so i’m doing a rewatch of sherlock and i’m going to write little liveblog notes abt things i wanna rememeber/talk about.

so far for s1 ep1

sherlock calling it ‘my’ riding crop (ok sherlock-)

uh i want to do more with sherlock at barts bc i like how he frequents the hospital. (also lowkey wanna do a sherlock as a nurse au now)

i love how much he casually plays violin along w his thought process and the fact he doesn’t talk for days on end (and the fact he considers these to be some of his worst traits at the beginning) but more??? the silence thing because he rly outwardly doesn’t seem like someone that stops talking. suppose it’s the mind palace aspect, but also leads, i believe, to saying he’s prone to reflection/inflection as well.

uhhh how much? s1 sherlock is just??? vying for attention/validation (the look on his face when he asks john what he thought of his blog- it’s like a kid waiting for praise)

how he JUMPS with excitement???? it’s???? adorable????

that he’d been badgering w/e forensic to work w him on the case, the fact anderson won’t work w him- bc he’d bullied anderson when he was working in ‘john’s place’ before him

THE SECOND JOHN TELLS HIM HES EXTRAORDINARY IN THE CAR is when the tone changes sherlocks like ‘:))))’ underneath it all and then the play afterwards when john is telling him and sherlocks like ‘oh it was a sister’ THIS IS SO FUN FOR HIM, someone to go back and forth with that’s like the underlying thing of their whole relationship and one of the things that makes for a compatible feature @ sherlock

I really like Mork I wasn't expecting him to be so nice and genuine, from the synopsis (I watched the trailer too but months ago so I had no memory of it, all I could recall was that I vaguely remembered enemies to lovers) it made it seem like Mork was just as in love with Nan as Pi is so during the wiping of the hand scene happened I was expecting him to be mean and have ulterior motives so when he offered to buy another box I was like 'hmmm what's your plan here bub' but very quickly realized (I think in the very next scene, which they shared) that Mork liked Pi from the get go and Pi is just out here going around assuming Mork likes Nan cause they hang out a bunch, but Pi is just so focus on his crush on Nan that he can't see that Mork isn't trying to malicious with his actions and with the way Mork went about the picture thing I can see how Pi would look at that as something he was trying to do on purpose especially with his one track mindset of 'Mork likes Nan therefore he hates me and is after me'

A n y w a y s really no point of this I just wasn't expecting Mork to be like this and I'm just pleasantly surprised, I got hopes that this show is gonna be good one so I'm just a wee bit excited, excited enough to make pointless post about it apparently, also is it just me or is this giving off a bit of My gear and your gown vibe? Also not sure if anyone else clocked this or how important it is but when Mork was folding clothes he was folding kids clothes little girl clothes to be specific so that means a younger sister so maybe a cute scene or something having to deal with that in the future mayhaps

and another thing I feel like it would criminal not mention just how cute and nice Mix is in this, I had completely forgot he was even going to be in this cause I watched the trailer before I really cared who he was and before I got completely obsessed with atots, he is such a good actor it's wild

I'm sorry but the only thing I want to do is scream about papa and daddy, episode two when they show how they met and how they ended up getting together was the cutest thing I've ever witnessed and I'm not sure it can be topped, plus a cute lesbian couple who are also planning on having a kid it's just wholesome gay relationships all around. Ugh it's so gooooood

Also can we talk about what a fucking queen Pa is like she runs the store when her parents aren't there and not just like a "we're just running out for 5 mins watch the shop" it sounds like she actually knows what shes talking about and what to do seems like she does all the fucking laundry in the house or at the very least hers and Pats she even went as far as going all the way to Pats dorm to do his laundry at one point like fucking queen and only in high school that queen

dramas/shows that prove that i actually lied to you and i do watch some “dark” stuff - 40 min-1 hr eps:

law & order: svu (22?? seasons??? i started at 13. it’s not that plot important, start wherever you want. i just watched it for barba, my fictional husband, who’s in 14-19. but don’t watch his last episode because it doesn’t exist<3)

supernatural (15 seasons. yes yes i know there’s a whole bunch of things about spn but i am literally rewatching it right now so it goes on the list!)

hannibal (3 seasons. definitely the darkest of the shows. i watched it with my friend jess, as it is one of her faves. it’s. i mean. you can see who it’s about. but cinematically? it is stunning.)

bojack horseman (6 seasons. this show is actually funny, too! it just has major dark themes and tones. it’s a really good show but it handles serious topics so it’s definitely not a light-hearted show)

legion (3 seasons. i watched this for our boy dan stevens!!! he’s the lead!! but also it’s one of my best friend’s favorite shows and i probably wouldn’t have watched it on my own, ya know? i didn’t love it, but still a good time! but i can talk on it more if you’re interested lmao.)

and last, i won’t go on a youtube tangent but my favorite channel there is watcher and my favorite show on that channel is puppet history!! generally 30 minute eps (i think around 20 episodes currently?? season 3 just finished) and always a good time. but they have other great shows too!! watcher is just 10/10 🌸🌸🌸

The third episode of 19 is up! (Has been for a few hours lol.)

You can actually check on the website how long each episode is going to be, and this episode is one of the longest ones. The only other longer episode is ep 9, which will be 22 min long. So there’s a lot to say about today’s ep.

Yusuf has something to do in Oslo, so he tags along with Aisha to “go to uni.” Aisha tries to get out of it, but there’s no use. They go to the station together, where Yusuf runs into a friend. The friend asks Yusuf right in front of Aisha how come he allows his sister to dress like that in see-through clothes. Says dudes these days aren’t like they used to be (I mean how much older than Aisha is he, really? But fine lol). Basically makes Yusuf feel like he’s not a good brother because he’s not intervening in Aisha’s life more.

When the guy leaves, Aisha angrily asks Yusuf why he didn’t defend her, so Yusuf’s like, “I tried, but he kept going.” (Which, tbf, is true.) Anyway, this is strike 1 in Aisha’s “men ain’t shit” day.

The guy Yusuf was supposed to meet is late, so Yusuf again talks Aisha into showing him around the law building. You can actually tell it’s the first time Aisha’s stepped foot into the building, because she doesn’t know where anything is, but also, because she’s very clearly enamored with how big and cool everything looks. Yusuf is equally impressed, says this building doesn’t look like their high school at all. He even admits, in an awed voice, that he totally gets why their parents are so proud, and why they tell everyone in the family about Aisha studying law. (I mean, this is so touching, but also, yyyyyyikes.)

Finally, Aisha gets her brother to fuck off, and since she’s already in the building, she goes to one of the auditoriums and kind of imagines herself to already be attending classes. She leaves when other people start to trickle in, and instead goes to the library to keep working on her GED.

You know the writing for a show is good, when as soon as an idea starts to pop into your mind, the show goes and actually addresses it. While she’s revising, Emrah texts Aisha about meeting. And I was like, “okay they’ve texted or hung out every day so far, who’s Aisha kidding? They are basically dating.” Emrah asks Aisha to meet at some food place, so Aisha turns off the location on her phone (lmaooo) and leaves.

When she gets there, Emrah is surprised that she came. He was hanging out with Abdi, but pulls out the chair next to him so Aisha can join them. Aisha instead sits in front of him, which obviously annoys Emrah. Abdi’s like, “sooo I’m going to get you some water.” While he’s gone, Aisha asks Emrah why he asked her to meet him if he was hanging out with Abdi, and Emrah’s like, “I didn’t think you were actually going to come!”

At this point, a fight just seems like it’s going to break out. Abdi comes back and tells Aisha he heard she’s going to uni. Abdi is studying to be a teacher, himself. (Aw!) So Aisha asks Emrah why he isn’t studying to be a teacher, and Emrah snaps that he will, but he needs to get a few things in order yet. And Abdi’s all, “has anyone tried the salad????” Aisha says she has a birthday to go to. Strike 2 in Aisha’s “fuck men” day.

And so, then, at the party, the girls start talking about the dudes they know. Like who’s dateable, who’s not hot, making fun of the pics the guys post on insta, with guns or doing muscle poses, etc. Inevitably the girls start talking about Emrah, who’s not off limits, because the girls don’t know that Aisha is still very much seeing him and into him. So there’s this moment where they’re saying Emrah is hot etc, which I thought was awkward since Aisha is right there, but THEN they start talking shit about him (like he legit went to jail, etc) and that might be even worse because she can’t defend him either. This adds to the tension Aisha is already feeling.

Later on, the girls are talking about the importance of retaining your V card, because it’s important for guys that their girl is a virgin, and also, they can tell when she’s not. Aisha takes umbrage with this convo. She says that they all have different noses and hands and so on, so it follows that they’ll also have different pussies. So they won’t all look the same, and also, a woman doesn’t always bleed the first time. Like, it’s all on google! A girl says she doesn’t trust google, so Aisha gets more personal. She’s had sex and she didn’t bleed, it just hurt a little. The same girl wants to know who she had sex with, and Jamilah says it was Emrah. Anyway, this was strike 3 on Aisha’s “men should die” day.

Jamilah’s boyfriend now calls her to check where she is, Jamilah says she’s with girl friends, the guy hangs up. Oh, but now Aisha is pissed. She starts arguing with Jamilah over Jamilah’s boyfriend calling her, Jamilah says that’s what boyfriends do, because she thinks Aisha is single, and Aisha refuses to put a name to her thing with Emrah because of Emrah’s history. Aisha gets more pissed and louder, and says Jamilah is an idiot and moreover she’s weak for letting her boyfriend control her like that. And now Jamilah is actually hurt and the other girls are silent because homegirl fucked up. Aisha leaves, but this is sooo obviously going to come back and bite her in the ass.

watch the first 4 mins of ep 22 season 1 of the clone wars the first scene with anakin gave me so many feels and a lot of ideas for a fic!!!

Okay yes this is giving me an idea for a fic but before that can I just point out how much of a fucking brat Anakin is?? 😂😂😂

Like lemme just give you a transcript of this part of the episode:

Anakin: “Hey, I’m supposed to be on a meditative retreat. We should go away together. I know a place far away from here where no one would recognize us... yeah, it’ll be like we’re actually husband and wife, instead of Senator and Jedi.”

Padme: “I— I can’t, Ani.”

Utopia (2020)

Alright as a lover of the original British version of this show that was on channel 4.. seriously if you can find a way to watch it, watch it... I’m gonna give the US remake a go.

I’m 2 mins in right now and it’s looking... not promising.. very kinda cheesy.

8 mins in - I don’t know if I’m misremembering the UK version but i feel like it was a lot more mysterious with stuff whilst this just kind of lies everything out for you a lot simpler.

22 mins in - Alright so it’s okay, not as good as the original version, but what is interesting me enough to keep watching is the changes they have made, whether it’s simplifying things for a different audience (Not calling Americans dumb but.. you guys have things simplified a lot for you).

It’s a lot lighter than the UK one, the violence doesn’t feel as shocking or as brutal. Overall it’s alright, it’s just like when you read a really good book and you see the movie adaptation and it’s still good but it’s just like.. eh.. it’s not what you had in mind.. except this time it’s a tv show adaptation of a different tv show.

Also although the plot seems to be heading the same way the set up is different. Spoilers for ep 1 of both now I guess.

TLDR: The UK one from 2013 is better but the US one is alright albeit dumbed down and not as brutal.. at least as of the first episode compared to the first ep of the UK one.

In episode one of the US version theres a couple who find the comic at their grandpa’s place and then the group meet up at a con, they all see the comic, make some bids, some other guy gets it, the kid goes and steals it from the penthouse, the two men kill basically everyone on the list in a montage. Not all in that order but thats the ep.

In the UK one it opens on a comic book store and the two men ask about the comic and it’s revealed it’s been sold and then one of them says “Where is Jessica Hyde?” which becomes a huge line in the show, the only thing thats close to it in the US one so far is the “Stay Alive Jessica Hyde” which isnt even said it’s written.. Also the realness of the two men killing people from one comic book store.. maybe like 4 people? i cant remember.. is somehow way worse than them killing a whole list of maybe 12 people in the US version.

ANYWAY In the UK version, the guy who has the comic is one of the group of friends, they’re all meeting up because he has it, they all agree to meet up at a pub. The boy breaks into the guy who brought the comics apartment, then the guy comes home and then the two men show up and it plays out similarly to the hotel penthouse scene in the US one.

okay regarding theories for the episodes and tyrus (id love to hear your thoughts!) what if (and this could be too rushed) TJ and Cyrus get together episode four, and the coming clean in seven references them confessing their relationship as an explanation for acting weird/blowing off their other friends?? The only reason I think that might be the case is that “coming clean” has a more negative connotation which I don’t think would be used solely for a coming out, but if it was an explanation...

(2/2) ... for uncharacteristic behavior it might make more sense?? Idk if that was clear or even likely because episode four seems way too early but again I’d love to hear your thoughts!!

Thoughts on Tyrus in Episode 4:

okay honestly this did come to my mind when i originally read that synopsis. I’m like 95% certain Disney wouldn’t have Tyrus officially together in episode 4 just because there seems to be a lot of stuff going on in that episode in regards to Jandi and Cyrus is definitely at least somewhat involved in that plot as we see him in the promo with Andi and Jonah in the hallway and also the GHC at the lunch table listening to Jonah in the cafeteria

that being said, my 5% hangs in the air because i think it would be hella smart and blessed if we did have some kind of hint to Tyrus this episode. Maybe not officially together but something similar to my fic and some other things ive seen floating around where TJ and Cyrus are ‘unusually’ close or touchy in the basketball tryouts scene (most likely in the background).

This would give us some kind of lead in to episode 6 where Cyrus is all of a sudden close enough to TJ that he’s hanging out with his friends. Even if them being very close in ep 4 was ‘platonic’ (LOL) the casual audience kinda needs some kind of hint that TJ and Cyrus are close/kept being friends after the finale of s2. (remember casual 9 year olds still think Tuffy is a thing. again, LOL)

I do agree that the ‘coming clean’ thing seems to have some type of negative connotation but at the same time i am VERY undecided on what is going to happen...im about 50/50 on two different scenarios right now so walk through a little thought analysis with me...

AM’s past episodes and synopsis liklihood:

Let’s journey back to a few episodes...The episode with Cyrus COMING OUT has Cyrus’ name in the synopsis because he has a plot and its a major one so surely... “Cyrus introduces his girlfriend, Iris, to Buffy and Andi” ..oh um okay?? i, uh.. okay disney. Now Cyrus’ second big gay scene was coming out to Andi but of course thats full of a ton of other Cyrus scenes so the synopsis wasn’t expected to cover that one.. what else... Keep A Lid on It?? Cyrus reveals he doesn’t have a crush on Jonah anymore! That’s kinda a big plot change for him? let’s... oh Ham reveals some info and Jonah tries out for ultimate...so okay, he aint mentioned at all

Disney has never ever attempted to reveal gay information in their episode descriptions.. now S3 is taking a big turn but i really just don’t have trust that they ever will. > 1 point to NOT about Tyrus

AM descriptions v promos:

Another thing we can do with episode descriptions is notice HOW SPECIFICALLY they are related to the trailers. There’s always way more in the actual episode than what does down in the trailer, but the trailer and the synopsis like to be tied so they don’t give away any of that information. Now this one is kind of exciting cos it can go either way which is what MAINLY divides my thoughts on this...and ill end up invalidating my statement that disney wont reveal gay in their synopsis..

Trailer: Cyrus and TJ dirt biking and a random new dude... Episode 6 synopsis: While hanging out with TJ’s friends, Cyrus faces a dangerous situation

Hella straight forward, thats gonna be episode 6 and the dangerous situation is gonna be dirt biking, they aren’t tryna lead us on they’re being basic

BUT we are now split on promo time for TJ and Cyrus because we have two scenes: Cyrus looking worried and TJ looking worried, OR Cyrus and Andi/ Cyrus and the Cop. Could go either way? Right? They both definitely SEEM to be something that Cyrus would have to confront and ‘come clean’ about.

it all depends on what happens in episode 6...

dangerous situation, cop shows up, drama. cyrus deals with it and comes clean to his friends that he did ‘x’ in last week episode : easy, classic conclusion

dangerous situation ends up being lowkey and there really arent any consequences other than cyrus being worried/scared for a hot second and that episode slaps us with tyrus for the remained of the screen time (cop scene is another episode)

Both honestly seem like valid options at this point...

First one is very dramatic, which i have a hard time believing a disney show would leave us on a cop cliff hanger for an innocent kiddo like Cyrus

Second one is more likely because the promo/synopsis love making things 10x more dramatic BUT the Tyrus thing just gets me cos i have no faith

no point. Disney is really branching out with their content here, its territory they have never touched and i really cant decide which way they think is less risky (substitute Tyrus for a het couple tho and option 2 is CLASSIC disney drama)

Buffy’s name in the e7 synopsis:

BUFFY. BUFFY. BUFFY. she just has to be the catalyst in all of this because it’s such a good troupe and i believe Terri sees it through... the fact that Buffy is involved in episode 4 with TJ, has what we assume is a small plot with Jonah in ep 6 (TJ), and is stated to be involved in Cyrus’ plot in ep 7 (TJ) just screams Tyrus reveal to me.

“After an encouraging talk with Buffy, Cyrus decides to come clean with his friends”

Andi was involved with Cyrus and the cop in the promo, not Buffy. It wouldn’t say friendS if it was the cop situation because Andi was there and if he talks to Buffy about it as well... he literally only has one other friend to tell (rip bud dont mean to call you out). ALSO 22 mins is not long enough to have a whole leading up to the talk with the cop, the talk with the cop, the discussion with Buffy about the cop, the reveal to his friends. there just aint the time if Andi is also dealing with Buffy drama and Bexie are involved in that plot as well.

Buffy, however, is the person Cyrus confides in the most about his feelings.

Episode 4 essentially serves as a ‘catch up’ for this trio (can we give TJ/Cyrus/Buffy trio a name pls?) and their relationships with each other. If episode 4 proves that Buffy is friendly with TJ now (but still a little snarky pls) then i jump from about 50% to about 75% certain for this plot

It is far more likely that once Cyrus is finally certain Buffy and TJ are okay with each other he reveals his crush. He is certain in episode 4 so he either tells Buffy in the end of that episode, some time in 6, or beginning of 7. THIS OR Buffy is talking about her relationship with Walker and how Andi is involved blah blah and Cyrus listens to her, realises he needs to tell everyone about TJ and everyone finds out at once, including Buffy.

Either way, I don’t see an ‘encouraging talk with Buffy’ being anything outside of relationships. Whether Cyrus makes a connection based on Wuffy or Buffy specifically discusses TJ, Cyrus comes to a conclusion about his relationship

1 point to it IS about Tyrus -- Cop drama just doesn’t have the time and Buffy mention saves the day

So im really really half and half as you can see... It really honestly all comes down to the question : Is Disney more likely to reveal a “dangerous situation/consequences with the police” storyline in their synopsis or a “meeting the crush’s friends/defining a gay relationship” storyline?

The Munchkin Nein - Falconet Fjord

Explaining this series

Wew real life is pretty time consuming, my week of travel has been kicking my arse in time management, barely had time to catch c2e23 on thursday. Nevertheless, here I am with today’s episode of the Munchkin Nein.

A falconet is a smaller falcon (and also has the same number of letters as falchion). It is also used to refer to a type of early cannon mounted on ships for combat. I was a bit indecisive over Frigatebird or Fregatidae but those sound a little too bland or esoteric, so I settle for falconets.

Fjordy the Texblade is a level 5 warlock. One of the most surprising thing about him is that his patron is not, the Great Old One that the Cthulhian seeming entity that appears in his dreams, but instead a sword possessing spirit. Not entirely sure how this works out in the lore, but just like Fjord himself, there is a whole ton we don’t know yet.

What we do know is the ass-kicking our Texan accented warlock can dish out on a regular basis. First off, he wields the magical Wastehunter falchion (barnacles and creepy eye included). It does d8 slashing damage one handed, d10 for two. Fjord does hold a standard shield, giving him +2 AC. Not sure on how they play the rules with regards to 2 handing the sword in one turn and having the shield bonus in the same turn. Does Fjord have to spend his interaction stowing the shield to 2 hand the falchion? Or is the shield more like a buckler that can be brought to bear at anytime? I believe atm it is the latter case and Travis not exploiting the ruling to max out all the time, and instead using 2 hands whenever RP dictates.

As a Hexblade, Fjord adds his CHA mod of 4 rather than his puny STR mod of 0 to attack rolls and damage. Additionally, the Wastehunter adds d8 (i believe from ep22) damage against monstrosities and big creatures.

Finally, at level 5, Fjord chose the eldritch invocation Thirsting Blade, giving him an additional attack, bringing him nearly up to the melee capabilities of the other melee fighters of the Nein (molly, beau, yasha)

Crucially, this melee capability is equalled by the ranged power given by the cantrip Eldritch Blast. With a comfortable 120 feet of range, Fjord constitutes a vital part of the Nein’s reliable ranged output, doing d10 force damage. Being level 5, Fjord issues two such blasts every time he casts this cantrip. He has also augmented the output with the invocation Agonizing Blast, adding his CHA mod of 4 to the damage roll. He can even cast it while wielding his falchion and shield thanks to the War Caster feat (q.v) [google that i just learnt this notation today]. Can’t wait for the day Travis plays the double eldritch blast like a double quick draw with a pair of finger guns like them Texan cowboys do.

Now back to the crunch, the above are the regular things Fjord can always do, leaving him a dangerous threat even after prolonged combat. As a half-orc, his criticals are more dangerous, giving an additional dice roll (d10 or d8 for eldritch blast/2hand falchion or one hand falchion respectively). And he doesn’t go down easy. Once each day, if he is reduced to 0 HP, he instead stay at 1 HP allowing him to disengage if his turn comes up next, or Jester’s to heal him. I believe concentration on his spells is not automatically broken if he uses this racial ability. Also, I think its worth mentioning that half-orcs have advantage on Intimidation checks. Considering Fjord’s charisma is 18, its worth a go scaring enemies into submission, flight or just for the fun of it. But Fjord seems more into charm than fear tactics. For now.

Now speaking about spells, warlocks have a more unusual economy in that they have far fewer slots, all at the highest level available, and are recovered on a short rest. At the moment, Fjord has 2 Level 3 spell slots. Just 2. Thus he has to be pretty tactical and careful with his spell choice, not hurl them willy nilly like Jester and Caleb can.

Choice wise he has 6 to choose from, on top of his other cantrips of Minor Illusion and Booming Blade.

Minor Illusion allows Fjord to get creative in combat, though with his existing combat options he doesn’t really need to, to gain the edge. Booming Blade’s effectiveness can be in question. It costs an action and allows a single melee attack to be made. At level 5, a successful hit causes the target to suffer the usual d8/d10 + 4 slashing, as well as d8 thunder damage. In addition, if the target moves willingly after being struck, it suffers 2d8 thunder damage. The trade off between the cantrip and the two melee strikes is as follows:

Cantrip: 1 attack roll, d8/d10 +4 + d8 + 2d8 (conditional upon target moving willingly). Min damage if hit: 6

Average if conditions met, attack hits (assuming one hand strike): 22

Average if conditions met, attack hits (assuming two hand strike): 23

Average if conditions unmet, attack hits (assuming one hand strike): 13

Average if conditions unmet, attack hits (assuming two hand strike) : 14

2 attacks: 2 attack rolls, 2 x (d8/d10 +4). Min damage if both hit: 10

Average if one attacks hits (assuming one hand strike): 8.5

Average if both attacks hit (assuming one hand strike): 17

Average if one attacks hits (assuming two hand strike): 9.5

Average if both attacks hit (assuming two hand strike): 19

Therefore, Booming Blade is best utilized if for some reason, Fjord can only make a single attack (slowed, opportunity attack etc). It would obviously be very helpful if the monster will obligingly shift its arse after being struck (intimidation maybe? does that count? idk) It will also depend on how easy the target is to hit. In summary I think one could say Booming Blade is higher risk, higher reward than two straight attacks.

Someone has helpfully pointed out that the spell Blink works wonderfully in conjunction with this cantrip, since phasing out into the Ethereal plane generally forces the enemy to re-position in the material plane, triggering the bonus damage from the cantrip. If not for Thirsting Blade, Booming Blade would be the staple of Fjord’s melee routine.

Onto the very important spells. I will discuss these spells at level 3, since at the moment (and up till level 7) all of Fjord’s spells will be cast at this level.

Armor of Agathys Gives 15 temporary hit points and does 15 cold damage to the attacker on being hit in melee. This makes Fjord a tank. A very spiky tank on the level of the venom troll faced in ep 21 and 23. In fact, that damage is nearly the maximum of what the troll puts out (though only triggered by melee attacks) The additional 15 HP can come in clutch. The only drawback is that the spell only lasts an hour, so Fjord can’t really prep it at the start of the day, rest up to regain the spell slot and wade in. It will take much more precise planning or signalling to read that flow of the story, almost to the point of metagaming. Or unless Fjord is raring for a fight.

Hex One of Fjord’s bonus action possibilities, it gives additional d6 necrotic damage on Fjord’s successful hits. Also, one of the ability scores of the target is chosen. An ability check made with the chosen score is made at disadvantage for the duration of the spell. Which happens to be 8 hours. Though Fjord must maintain concentration for that duration. With a range of 90 feet, that could be a good way of initiating combat. Note, it is ability checks that are at disadvantage, not saves which are more often used in combat. However, checks do still occur such as STR checks for grapple contests, WIS for perception for the hiding Nott maybe? This could lend it to a more non-violent, yet hostile approach. Also, if the target is reduced to 0 HP, Fjord can use a bonus action to transfer it to another target.

Witch Bolt Not a very impressive spell in my personal opinion, save perhaps for the raw damage. 3d12 lightning damage on hit (avg 19.5). On following turns, if concentration is maintained, Fjord can use his action to automatically inflict 1d12 lightning damage. Not doing so ends the spell. Whose range is 30 feet and must be maintained. And the target must stay out of total cover. In terms of damage trade off it would win against Eldritch blast for the first round, then never again, unless the target is nigh impossible to hit and auto hits are valuable. Against the other spells that compete for the precious spell slots.....the medium run utility can be questionable. Unless its raw damage you’re looking for.

Crown of Madness Pretty useless against a single target. Can be useful against enemies that attack in concert. A humanoid must make a WIS save, or suffer the charmed condition, using its action before moving to make a melee attack against another creature (excluding itself and Fjord). If it does not, it can act normally. At the end of its turns, it can make another WIS save, and Fjord has to spend his action maintaining control, on top of concentration. Thus only when the creature has adjacent enemies (of the Nein) to attack and can deal more damage than Fjord, will this spell be mechanically valuable. However, for most humanoids, having an ally turn against them can play a very strategic role in combat, sowing mistrust and scattering them. They could even egg on the infighting to gain a further advantage.

Hunger of Hadar Thar’ be Cthulhu! Or Hadar as D&D calls it. Concentration, 150 feet range, 20 foot radius void of darkness and tentacles. Nasty voices audible within an extra 30 feet. Within this 20 foot void, creatures are blinded, insufficiently magically powerful light cannot illuminate it or dispel the darkness. Also, is difficult terrain. Starting the turn in it causes 2d6 cold damage. Ending the turn inside forces a DEX save (on DC 15) or else 2d6 acid damage. Range wise it is the longest option available to Fjord, and also acts a way of terrain control. The damage is....alright, not stellar but the tune of 14 damage a turn sounds decent if lumbering or CC’ed foes are kept penned in the area. Probably more useful in isolating targets than actually killing them.

Blink A very well RP’ed spell by Travis. When I first read the spell, I almost dismissed it as non-combat viable. But then someone on reddit pointed out the defensive value of disappearing between your turns, with 10 feet of teleportation to boot. The need to roll 11 and above makes it a little unreliable, but if the dice are hot like Fjord’s on his first use in ep22, it can really take the heat off. Therefore, it should not be used in conjunction with Armor of Agathys, since that rewards being hit.

I left out Wrathful Smite as listed on critrole stats since Fjord could only have gained a second level 3 spell at level 5 by exchanging one of his previously known spells. Also, we have never seen Fjord use it, nor should he since it isn’t particularly effective. I may have to speculate on which spell he will trade off in his next level up, but I’ll leave it till then.

Also, all the spells bar Blink and Armor of Agathys requires Fjord to maintain concentration. Which his War Caster feat greatly helps with, giving him advantage to CON saves to maintain it. With a CON mod of +2, he has held on in many crucial situations. The final part of the War Caster feat allows Fjord to cast a single hostile target spell in place of an opportunity of attack, enabling Booming Blade, Witch Bolt or Crown of Madness to be used as a reaction.

If you think that’s all for Fjord, nope! His subclass grants him yet another feature. Hexblade’s Curse is a bonus action, 30 feet. 1 min duration. Not concentration, but ends if target dies or Fjord dies/incapacitated. This gives the bonus of proficiency (+3) in damage rolls against the target. Crits are 19s and 20s instead of just 20s (Fjord’s crits are also nastier than most). If the target dies, Fjord heals 9 HP. Once per short/long rest, so basically a specific extra spell slot that he can be relatively liberal in using.

Finally, it should be mentioned that Fjord is a contender for the tank-iest of the Nein with 51 HP, AC 17 with a shield due to his cloak of protection. Armor of Agathys brings him up to an impressive 66 HP at level 5, while Hexblade’s Curse if activated by the death of an enemy turns them into a helpful health potion (9 HP of healing). (thanks to ehdubyah for reminding me HBC can’t be transferred on death, unlike Hex)

Mechanically, Fjord is a very well rounded character. Comfortable both at range and in the thick of it, he has the sustainability and versatility to engage with the many possible situations the Nein will run into during their adventures. This possibly leads to Fjord being a natural leader, as some have suggested, due to his adaptability and ability to do something in any given situation. Although, his WIS mod is -1, which makes him as wise as Yasha is charming (awkward aasimar that we all love). Also, I have to constantly remind myself he is STR 11, instead of Travis Willingham STR 20++.

Love yall, and we are on the Internet today cos Talks Machina with Matt and Sam! Interestingly July 3 and 5 they’d be off; with 4th of July they’ll be able to take a well deserved holiday. And if I’m not mistaken isn’t Laura and Travis’ baby coming in the first week of July? What a strange coincidence of timings. Still, super hyped for their new studio.

September 2021

1 - MTBS 0 pt. tried out kopsus from jannor coffee with gofood pickup promo (10k). it tasted nutty and yummy even though it seems to use regular milk. but its kinda hot. the ac was not satisfactory. finished up the word for Prof. bought jasuke on the way back. filled out IDI form since i still have energy.

2 - mtbs again but this time its 3 patients at the same time. vcalled with kris. bought some snacks in hypermart. exercised a bit and played badminton with renata. watched 3 eps of nanno.

3 - my body aches and it will be wonderful to sleep again but its already 6:40. usila today. the ac in kamar jaga was no longer cold. finally finished moms box of brownies from like 2 weeks ago. read dear benjamin. got to enjoy some silence because i napped before maghrib and the others slept early.

4 - vaccine in GCD with teh fitri, teh fany and teh rahmi. about 440ish patients. gossiped about cibeber lmao. watched the hitman’s bodyguard. samuel and ryan was hilarious.

5 - morning walk with renata. saw cilegon’s cfd. cleaned up the room accompanied by howl’s soundtrack. made spaghetti with instant bolognese sauce, egg and cheese. o seven with tri nagita. just saw prof’s email from 2nd sept, shit. tried to get some headspace to do ppt.

6 - bp with nessa (originally kia/ugd). except therere some patients in ugd lol. did excision for clavus (1st timer!) and hecting. fried tempe (1st timer!) using someone’s leftover oil lmaooo

7 - BP with zihan. had spaghetti combined with cheese egg and mom’s chicken for lunch. instant bloating :). drank hot matcha to curb the bloat. planked. ate muesli lol. did not do anything significant today :( started the origin of species.

8 - vaccine today except it starts at 10:30 since we’re waiting for the mayor. so i hung out on the screening table since the doctor room was hot. vaccine with dr lutfi. watched homcha and nanno. fell asleep

9 - vaccine with bang esa and other staffs in smp 8 cikerai. its apparently the highest point in cikerai. finished at 12-ish pm and we ate buffet lunch lol. made matcha latte again. this time with almost 1 spoon of sugar so it tastes good. i missss matcha. read 1 webinar ppt so i guess thats a little but its something. rip attention span

10 - usila. tried A BIT of duren from bu Tur for dr isip but its enough to make me retch lmao. was given labbaik chicken by bu oo. Some exercise. rly tried to make some progress but my brain just cant seem to muster

11 - kia/ugd. Some ugd patients. Spaghetti for lunch yay. Originally intended to go to cafe but i ended up falling asleep :) tried to get some progress for PPT. Involved a lot of staring into nothing. Slept at like 00:30ish am

12 - morning walk slash jog. The jogging track was finally open. Went to jannor. Ordered kopsus and meatball potato dish with gofood takeaway promo (spent a total of 30k) . The staff kindly asked whether i want to eat there or to actually takeaway lol. The meatball truly tasted like meat. The mashed potato was a bit dry. The weather was grey and cloudy, exactly my favorite. First time cooking kangkung

13 - vaccine today. 20-ish patients. Alone in kamar jaga since nessa went to mass vaccine. Zoom call with Prof. Dyed my hair blue in flow salon (1200K). got free manicure, It took 5 hrs 😅. another firsts in life. both the nail tech and hair tech said my hair was dry lmao. arrived in mess at 9ish pm. ordered nasgor in front of mess

14 - mi rebus for bfast. not too much patients for vaccine so i finished at like 10 am. napped at kamar jaga. got free rice box from dr arief etc yay :)))) got mochacinno at jannor. tried to do sumn useful but cannot. still no ppt progress aaa. watched homcha ep 6 together

15 - vaccine in al hanif. tried chicken-cakwe porridge near the school. the school was an all girls school, with ppl wearing long veils. tried to fit the placement test from cakap (12-1 pm) during the vaccination lol. had to excuse myself to the ssaem during photo sesh. napped so i could see the 17 pm cakap class but i ended up napping until close to 18 :) saw the 19 am class with lukas ssaem

16 - spaghetti for bfast. usila today. this dumbass forgot to wear komin and wore her rubber slip ons. turns out theres some money from al hanif vaccine. which is great bcs there’s literally no paper money in my wallet lmaoo. rested a bit. dr eva called and she gave me a ppt and chapter book job. sheeet theres no progress yet of Prof’s ppt. a wake up call. whatsapped with frends that planned to go to cilegon this weekend, but it ended up being the next weekend. thank god, because dr eva’s ppt deadline is 24th sept. set myself up on a spot in the vanity table so i can work in a chair (i frfr find it difficult to work on my own bed)

17 - some patients in UGD. Slept while waiting for 2 pm. Held off my sleepiness for zoom with dr Eva. 5pm cakap class. Matcha latte. 7pm zoom w dr eva. Fell asleep after that

18 - bp. Turns out teh imey also dyed her hair. cakap class abt bts' spring day lol. Worked on dr eva's ppt

19 - jogged a bit. had kopsus (20K) and fish fillet rice (27K). finished dr eva’s ppt with the given material so far. napped in mess. dr eva also revised the ppt on the same day so there’s 2 slides left (patient clinical profile and conclusion). took some time for me to get the headspace to work on ppt so i started prof’s ppt at like 7-ish. only got 1 slide. stayed awake until 11ish but i basically stopped doing useful stuff at 9 TT TT

20 - vaccine today, finished at 10 am. lounged around. went to bni to check on m-banking, still system error. transferred 3mil from my BNI atm to muamalat. tried nasi goreng roa and cakalang with added chicken shreds (20K). so goood. conversed with nessa zihan. did not open my laptop at all :) stopped by at rodalink bcs nessa wanted to buy a bike. drank matcha latte in an effort to curb sleepiness. worked on Prof’s ppt. fried the frozen kebab (35K) i bought from teh Rahmi.

21 - vaccine P3K w teh yeni teh rahmi mas oim. 3 patients. Ate some gorengan and talked lol. Did the abstract and ppt for dr eva. Worked on Prof's ppt.

22 - usila w mas oim. Had banana, bolu and protein for bfast. Ordered nasgor roa cakalang from bakuku for lunch. Felt suuuuper sleepy afterwards. Wanted to sleep again in mess but couldnt. Washed my shitton of clothes with washing machine. Heavyyy. Worked more on PPT. Too much denial this week

23 - picked some groceries @ bu rum. Kia/ugd today. Its been a while since i last checked DJJ. Successful first attempt but fail in the 2nd bcs the baby is still floating. Cooked meat and veggies with nessren. Jannor and kopsus again. Worked on ppt til my head hurts. Its a little bit more to gooo.

24 - bp. Made myself bento with nugget and left over veggies. Finished the smol details of the ppt and finally sent it. Watched shangchi @ transmart w chillegone. The film was fun! We cooked soup at mess and tri made perkedel. Watched homcha ep7. Slept

25 - Vaccine but there was no vaccine, so I went to UKK @ villa ternak cikerai with pkm peeps. its like opening a clinic but somewhere in hills area. got treated to bakso and tempe mendoan afterwards. lazed around in my bed, with no info from jkt friends who wanted to visit but suddenly they arrived lmao. went to amaris to catch up with them. thankfully it was not hourly parking. ate at saung bonang near the billiard place with heri joining us. total bill for five was 126 lmao its rly pocket friendly. heri borrowed my motorbike bcs his friend’s place doesnt have car park. thank god we brought the bike

26 - me and racheel went downstairs to get the hotel bfast. packed fruits, tempe and bread upstairs lol. put our stuffs in royal krakatau. took maxim to pulau kecil. turns out pak asep changed his number. it was raining there, so we sat a bit and got mie rebus. had lunch at amirang (my treat). there was only us inside. the food was okay but the meat was rly overpriced for its amount. went back to the hotel. went to indomaret and mess with racheel to get my stuff. my stupid impatient ass dropped atikah’s brand new iphone while pulling the hotel towel from the bathroom rack. im sorryyyyy. racheel and i swam until maghrib. atikah told us abt her boy “friend”. slept early at like 9-10ish with the usual width but longer leg space

27 - and suddenly its time to go to puskesmas. asked nessa to bring my shoes. said goodbye to friends. BP. there were a lot of patients. kanayam for lunch. i bought shades lol bcs i commute against the sun in the morning. cakap club. watched homcha. fell asleep

28 - vaccine. finished at like 10:30. tried to go to bni to install mbanking but the queue was like 20 ppl. did the outline for the red book. liqo with kak kartika. zoom meeting with dr eva. fell asleep again

29 - vaccine in sma 3 cilegon (cikerai) with bang esa and others. finished at like 2-ish pm. got 750K hehehe. mentoring with dr. Arnadi about KKD and HHS. bought rotbak with nessa. showered and cleaned and fell asleeep

30 - cooked tempe with leftover kanayam chili sauce. bp again. saw interesting cases today, such as fixed drug eruption. bought phd from gofood promo. went to jannor and got the usual kopsus with added espresso (since the min amount for gofood pick up promo was 25k). tried to do prof’s script but cannot, so i searched the literatures needed for dr eva’s project

2020 Wrap-up pt1

This year I was 26 so I’m going to list 26 things I’m proud of this year! I have a tendency to think that I didn’t do anything this year, since I was stagnant for the first half and unemployed for the second, but I make my own meaning! I am not defined by my employment and I did do ~things~.

1) Exercised in public!! was “ugly” and it didn’t matter!! 2) Boxing studio! for an entire month! (then covid hit) 3) The most exercise I’ve done in a year. It didn’t reach the extravagant goals I set for myself, but was still as least double last year!! 4) Eroded my perception of myself as someone who doesn’t do physical things. I did barre, peloton, boxing, pole, yoga, danced around my house, and nothing in me was actually allergic to any of it. 5) Actually look forward to doing things! Found a yoga studio that I like, and hope to do 200hr training sometime, found out that I really like to watch pole dancing so hopefully can do that when things open up again, found an (entirely apia run) dancing app that I might try! 6) Practiced adapting routines for me, not try to stick w the vid just bc it’s the vid. (// Bitches Get Riches’ bit on running)

7) 70 day streak of duolingo French- quit bc I chose to, was turning more into a burden than a helpful push. 8) Watch an entire 50 ep tv show in an other language!!!!! 50!! 9) Mandarin turned from a guilt and shame-laden burden to an interesting thing that I can learn if I want!! 10) Leaned into finding my own way to learn instead of just the rote memorization every other teacher has forced me to do over the years. Learning Kangxi! Taking apart the words to see what each bit means! 11) Found a community of active learners, at various levels, willing to help and encourage each other!! Langblr and discord server 12) The most listening I’ve done since not living w my parents anymore, and subsequently, my best since not living w my parents anymore. 13) Learned lots abt modern Chinese culture!

14) Survived 6mos of unemployment w/o turning into a jelly melted onto my mattress!!! Of course I have my low moments, but I have gotten myself up and at ‘em for the most part, far exceeding my expectations!! 15) Broken that emotional dependence on fbook/ insta at all times. W/o actually deleting them, I have a much healthier relationship w/ them! I can actually interact w my friends and cat cafe fundraising page and not be sucked in automatically! 16) Really integrated self-care things into my normal life, and actively worked at figuring out how to do them for me. (aka learned how to be a normally functioning person more): exercising, meditation- different forms, consistently cooking veggie packed food at home/ found a meal prep way that fits me, going outside just to be outside, resting not stopping mindset, all things I had started in prev years but now more powerful.

17) Caring for my 16 yr old cat, and all that it entails. It’s often difficult to think how this is an accomplishment, rather than a given, but it actually does involve a lot. 18) Keeping his meds consistent for so long- 6x a day, 4 meds- 4 methods (2 twice a day) and coordinating w/ my partner on all things. 19) Caring for myself after Moofer’s passing last yr and limiting my preemptive grief for Jack. 20) Taking him outside so often! Esp for hrs and hrs during the summer.

22) “Housewife” job for half a year. There is honestly so much that goes into caring for a house all by myself, and I honestly did not do a v good job, but it is so much that I’m counting it. I did go up some on the steep learning curve, and have worked out systems on the most important stuff, so it’s still an accomplishment. 23) Became increasingly intentional abt where I source my food. Rather than just depending on Costco, I also bought from a rehab farm and the farmer’s market. 24) GRE!! I still need to retake it, but only a year ago I would have counted myself out before even trying. I got 97% on verbal, which I am quite proud of :) The % I got on quant I am not proud of, but I studied math for the first time since hs, a clear 8 years ago! I now also know what I need to do for my next test, and it is less scary. 25) I have grown and learned so much as a person these past 6mos. So much that I did not even know I had to learn, or see a way out of, I have now grown past and created a healthier stance on them. It wasn’t from books, like I have prev depended on, but mostly from sitting by myself and really turning over concepts that catch my attn in my mind. The process happened a lot more automatically than I was initially prepared for, but once I sensed it happening, I intentionally cleared out space for it and let it happen, even when the change was scary. 26) Cared for myself through the political trauma of the US’ reaction to covid and to police brutality. Since I live in Lansing, I knew there were many w/ guns etc. 15 min down the road from me at the capital, so that was scary! (Bonus: Survived months of a pandemic!)
