Y’know, I have a funny story with the ship between Innocence and Pebbles.

@eggobuggo , my sister, was playing The Sims and made the iterators in her own humanised forms, including her version of Innocence and Wind, along with Moon, Pebbles, NSH and Suns, all with their own personalities and stuff. She set up a generic apartment, put the gang in, and just had fun making them do silly shenanigans together, while I sit and watched her play.

In particular, we headcanon NSH, Pebbles and Innocence as Gen 3s, the newer modes, and so she made them into teenagers, which, with a DLC, have a whole new host of features that are not in the base game. This includes getting crushes (which weirdly enough, young adults and adults cannot get).

But anyway, one day, later into the game (the gang basically all were in the high end of the friendship scale with each other), the notif board popped up that Innocence had gotten a crush on Pebbles. Unfortunately for her, NSH and Pebs were already being all flirty with each other (Ragequit is where it’s at for us), making Pebble basically keep her in the friendzone. Ngl, my heart went out to her :,) Especially so, because they were all sharing a room. (space was tight)

After that, I began thinking about it in context of it in-universe, and ngl, I came to quite liking it as a ship, especially since I see Innocence to be less… asshole-ish (?), I guess, than what the general fandom makes her out to be (I mean it’s understandable, we only see her to leak the pic of Pebbles condition and that’s it.). To me and Eggo, she’s much nicer unless you really piss her off, which then, her more cynical and gossipy side of her comes out. She was actually more of on the friends side with Pebble before the shit went down.

At the time, I thought “dang, it’s a shame I won’t be seeing anything of it since she’s so obscure.”. This was a couple months before I began seeing art of them on the main tag.

Soooo… I guess I’m somewhat of an og Milkshake (as is the fandom name) shipper???

Just, seeing you and others make art about them is almost surreal in a way, since the only reason I really considered them as a ship was cuz of a random event in a life sim game lol.

Wow, that seems like quite the story! And I do agree, after witnessing something like that in a totally different game it must be pretty surreal to see the ship gaining popularity in the actual RW fandom now too! It's nice to get another seal of approval from an original Milkshake shipper!

For me, it's also a bit strange because it's something I've considered for a really long time as a lingering "oh, wouldn't it be cool if I could make this work?" idea. The obscurity and lack of content for UI to draw inspiration from, both canon and fanon, definitely added to these feelings and the difficulty of imagining a working portrayal of the ship, hence I've only recently felt confident enough about the relationship and UI as a character to act on it. So after Pura coined the ship name and made a lot more art of it, then other artists started expressing approval and even drawing it themselves, it almost feels like I'm watching the ship enter the mainstream (Tumblr) fandom consciousness in real time, which is honestly pretty cool, especially since it feels like I had a hand in it with that initial ask! And even if I wasn't the very first to consider it, I'll definitely continue supporting this ship!

For some other thoughts though, I totally agree on Innocence not being mean in reality, though for me she's not mean or gossipy at all and more so has a kind-of opposite major flaw that tends to cause bad things unintentionally. As much as I can understand interpreting the character as a genuinely mean person, I thought it'd be interesting to imagine that her leaking the rot simply caused others to perceive her as mean, not that she's that way in reality. After all, I don't think we ever see direct dialogue from Innocence in canon, and the only evidence I can find of her being mean is Wind's speculation on her motivations. I also took inspiration from @shkika's Innocence, but I just wanted to see if I could take those ideas further to create my own unique interpretation.

Also, it's actually pretty coincidental you're telling me this too, because in regards to what I've come up for my Milkshake portrayal, Innocence having an unrequited crush on Pebbles for a really long time is actually really important for both plot and character arc reasons! I've been developing my own take on the classic worm-off-the-string iterator AU idea with @hail-strom for like the past week or so and the ship as of now plays a decent role in that, but the unrequited crush acts as subtle, yet major context for Innocence's actions throughout, which in turn slowly influence Pebbles especially as he starts to reciprocate those feelings (much to his alarm)!

Anyway, thanks for sharing that with me, and thanks for giving me a chance to ramble about this ship more! I'm honestly so happy to see it growing, and all support counts!

Personally i hc Yusei as ace and Primo as possibly aroace (i say this like i dont hit every character with the ace canon) so to me they have a qpr except neither realises it-

RISE UP MY 4 OTHER HIGHRISERSHIPPERS...absolute plight of a niche ygo spinoff ship, I shouldn't be baffled it's extremely difficult to find folks hyping yuseiprimo up and YET. NONETHELESS I STILL AM. it's sooo so underrated

For me I have like... honestly a little solar systems of different explorations and reads on them that I like thinking about and rotating around in my head. I loooove yugioh QPRs/platonic spins on ships/the ways in which a bond can be nonromantic and still tremendously deep (and I myself hc Yusei as aro bi (and probably some degree of ace too)!!!)( hitting characters left and right with the ace beam🤝 hitting characters left and right with the aro beam solidarity) so really all of the versions of this pair in my head are in some sort of nebulous nonromantic space. I think in canon as we have it I really just enjoy Primo having effectively a crush on Yusei and being so mad about it and not knowing what to do so he's just going to become psychosexually obsessed with him about it lmfao. Peak 19 Year Old Behaviors.

But I do very much think in another time, another place, where things didn't have to go the way they went, I think Yusei could've been able to show Primo a kindness and warmth he's never really had properly before (as I explored in my rare pair week comic), and that makes me SOOOO SOFT. GRAAUGH. The stone walls of someone stubbornly believing he has no one to love and is unloveable himself being broken down to smithereens by patient, quiet empathy makes me WILDDDD.

(i also really. really love this element of yuseiprimo echoing zoneporia in a way-- "is the attraction i feel for you of my own volition or is it the afterimage of the long dead man i was made from?" on primo's end is something i think endlessly about. ideas of being appreciated and loved for who you are. that's my SHIT!!!)

God though "qpr but they dont realize it," that's the kind of spin ive been cooking quietly in my. Increasingly Extensive Postcanon 5D's AU that's been taking up a lot of mental real estate as of late lol. i need to make art/talk more about it so bad. Anyway the sandbox of a postcanon living Primo realizing his vendetta against Yusei has no teeth anymore and is just pointless rage, and of a Yusei still quietly grieving Bruno and realizing he has more in common with his former obsessive android enemy than he realized...waaauughh i have MANY A THOUGHT ABOUT IT. THERE IS A BOND THERE AND I THINK IT COULD BE REAL. 🙏 ALSO THEY R BI4BI AUTISTIC4AUTISTIC. TO ME.

As for pizza AU, it doesn't really show up there! Only because ygo character kind of got inserted into the AU at different times and at comically different ages, and the maturity gap between Primo (19 year old line cook) and Yusei (~early-mid 30's year old with a house and several cars on blocks in his front yard) is just. Grand Canyon Wide behehehe. I think it'd be funny if Primo had a smoldering infuriating one-sided crush on Yusei though (since he does order pizzas from them and has a bit of a Thing with bruno~)

This is BugBear, aka Jewel the Beetle and Bark the Polar Bear. I've been losing my absolute mind over this rarepair for... Two years now?

The two have NEVER canonically met, but the pair was inspired by @bitter-sweet-coffee reminding me this moment exists in the IDW Sonic comics:

(Jewel is 2'7" tall, that is Storm the Albatross holding her in that panel, he stands at 4'7" tall. Bark himself is 5'11" tall. This is all important to the madness.)

BSC and I had set out to make a gag ship for laughs initially. How funny would it be to see tiny Jewel paired up with one of the 4 foot plus, muscular characters? It'd be COMICAL-

Until we settled on Bark, and it instantly quit being funny.

Jewel is an anxious sweetheart, and Bark is a shy, soft spoken gentle giant. Both of them have crazy best friends they desperately attempt to wrangle (with little success). They deserve a quiet relationship where they don't have to constantly be on and ready for the other to do something completely insane and potentially dangerous.

Jewel would be a little afraid of Bark upon first meeting him, but she'd see the real him and warm up eventually.

Speaking of warming up, I like to play with the fact that the Sonic characters are animals and bring in what species are cold blooded and warm blooded into my shipping shenanigans. Who would make a better cuddle buddy than A MASSIVE POLAR BEAR???

So, as for it being discovered by the comic writers... I took a brief peek at your blog and didn't see anything to indicate if you're in the Sonic fandom, so I will keep this brief. Ian Flynn is one of the main writers on the IDW Sonic comics. He also runs a podcast called the BumbleKast, and back on Valentine's Day they made the BOLD DECISION to discuss shipping. Oh boy...

Their guest... Commentator? (I don't go to podcasts typically, not certain what the terminology is for what the speakers are called. 🤷) @/pedanticat (Not sure if they want the tag, so I will spare them from being part of this essay for now.) brought up the ship during the episode, having either seen it floating around on here, or over on Twitter when I posted some art by hansuart and @seagull-scribbles (both posted with permission) over there. And like... BugBear isn't like some other rarer Sonic ships where a couple people might've had the idea independently of each other and it's hard to gauge who got there first. Unless I'm missing someone or something, I'M the first person to mention it, and the art that does exist of it exists because I infected the artists with the same brainrot... So... Oops...

The ship was brought up during the question at 46:03 (Have you ever seen shipping fanart of two Sonic characters that made you go "Huh, I never thought of that pairing, but I could see it working"?) But the exact timestamp it comes into discussion is at 49:11. "A crackship that isn't too crazy" was the verdict. I will take it and be annoying about it forever:

Favorite thing about them: His pure of heart, dumb of ass nature... idk! I just feel like his bombastic, friendly personality is so lovable. I was invested in him from the second I met him! He just leaves such an impact with his silly but earnest personality. I love how determined he is, how he's got these big emotions and how much he believes in Blackquill and isn't scared of him one bit even though everyone else is because he sees Blackquill's raw potential. Waaaa. It's nice. Least favorite thing about them: Beyond him tasing Blackquill, um. What they did to his character by having him get murdered off-screen before the game starts lol. I think the way they did the Phantom twist was incredibly lame and I've talked extensively about it before so I'll spare y'all and just link the posts where I've bitched about it instead. 1 | 2

I haven't thought about it in a while so my opinions may have changed a bit idk just read these KRKFNM Second post isn't mine but I did leave a fucking tag essay so there's that. I do plan on replaying Dual Destinies soon to see what I feel about the game after knowing everything I do now, though. Favorite line: idk if it's a favorite line exactly but my favorite moment with him is in Turnabout Academy where he pops out of the art room window and is like "oh it's y'all!! in justice we trust!!" and helps out Athena and Apollo while Athena excitedly greets him n Klav and Apollo are like ??? It's so cute. brOTP: Ummm him with Ema is pretty fun! I want all the detectives to be buddies, and I think that Ema would originally be so pissed off and annoyed by him, but come to appreciate his earnestness and kindness. I think once she cools off and becomes a proper forensic detective she'd mellow out and be much more open to befriending people she works with. I think they'd get along very well. I also like the headcanons where Bobby really looks up to Gumshoe, so I like their dynamic too.

I also think him and Yuty would be fun. I think Nahyuta would be annoyed by Fulbright at first like Ema, though. But Fulbright probably fills a similar environmental niche to Datz, so I think Nahyuta could deal with him eventually. I imagined this scenario (admittedly in a shippy sense-- I think Madhibright is a funny ship and kinda cute, but I don't actually ship it anymore, they're just pals) where they meet post-SOJ and thought it'd be fun. Here's that post I made. OTP: Blackbright, I guess! IDK, I don't ship as much for him as I used to, but this is still my number one. I LOVE their dynamic in DD, I love the possibilities of what a dynamic could be like post-DD had he lived, so on. They're definitely Together but it might be kind of an unlabeled grey area friendship gay thing too. I don't know KRKF but I like them a lot! It's fun. I think they're very cute. nOTP: I dunno. Who are they gonna ship him with if not Blackquill? The Phantom? I've seen cute stuff with the Phantom and him as buddies that I find interesting. I wouldn't call romantically shipping them a NOTP, it's just vaguely weird but I don't really care at all. So, none I guess. Random headcanon: He's from the South and has a Southern accent!!! I love giving characters I like Southern accents it's kind of a thing I do if I have an excuse to, lol. It's why like half the Tazmily villagers were written with accents during my Mother 3 fanfic days. I think it suits him, idk why. It's better than the goofy ass voice they gave him in DD 😭 Unpopular opinion: idk. I don't know what people think about him, aside from him being another character the AA subreddit will try to convince you just absolutely sucks. Aside from, like, I don't know, I think it's a bit off sometimes if AUs where Bobby lives that people try to put all the blame for shitty behavior towards Blackquill on the Phantom. I get why, but I think sometimes it's worth examining how his position of power could be harmful to Blackquill regardless of his pure intentions or whatever. He's a cop, after all.

I know some people are uncomfortable with the ethics of a ship with Blackquill while he's still in prison (which is why some folks will specifically only interpret Blackbright as a post-DD thing) but I'm also like. idk I think THAT'S worth examining too! By people smarter than me. I'm not doing it KRKF I just find their dynamics interesting, warts and all.

Possibly poisoned by the fact that most of my exposer is old 00's art where people were just trying to find anything hetrosexual to ship in this show. There aren't really a lot of main characters and Tak appears only in one episode so back then a lot of people didn't even know she existed.

I like ZaGf, I've had some funny ideas for it when it comes to @the-best-invader blog's backstory lol

Otherwise though I've just never seen a version I like. ZaDr is too much of an OTP for me it's very hard to convince me to ship those characters with other people XD

I did used to draw some kind of TaGr art? It was appealing to me, I liked the lesbians lol.

Over the past year though I've kind of forgotten what I liked about it. Idk I think there's potential for if I ever went back to think about Tak's character more, but I think it might be more of a friendship.

Especially if it's with the Tak ship instead of Tak herself. I think it'd be really funny if Gaz and the Tak ship were super close and hang out all the time and then real Tak shows up and is like SHIP KILL THAT HUMAN and the ship is like NO ORIGINAL TAK! I WILL DEFEND THIS HUMAN lol

Okay this one is one I haven't posted about before lol. I don't SHIP ship it, as in I think they should be otp dating forever, I just like the idea of Tak being Dib's one comp-het moment.

Like, back when Tak first appeared and he thought she was human, he actually really liked her because she believed him and engaged with his ideas! So he took his normal like of another person and went "Is this romance? Maybe I could be straight. I could try that" and then she turned out to be an alien before it went anywhere lol

I think Skoodge and Zim's relationship is interesting, and I like thinking about why Skoodge acts around Zim the way he does, I just... I just can't see it romantically. I think Skoodge deserves better, Zim would not treat him right.

I think Skoodge listens to whoever is scariest. He's a good loyal irken solider, but he also knows Zim is Definitely more powerful and so he follows him around. He wouldn't rat Zim out, not because of loyalty or love, but because he doesn't think he'd live.

Silver Talks AniManga (14/05/23)

3 new manga this week wao, busy week for m+ (tho there were more I'm not reading) the one of most note is nue, the last of this WSJ serialization round and the one I was looking forward to the most, despite 2 of the other manga being by fujimaki and the shokugeki duo. sadly it didn't live up to my expectations but I talk about it more under there 👇

also I watched all anime episodes yesterday since mal was down for like 3 days thanks to a brainless hacker, I know I coulda just watched and updated it after it got fixed but I stubbornly like to do things a certain way tehe anyhoo

oh also there was a new chap of strike it rich but because of how comikey works I can't read it for free til there's a new chap in 2 week (yikes) so that's why it's not here, I'll be keeping a lookout for alternative sources for it but until then I'll just have to be behind ugh

honestly the last or this episode coulda been the last and the anime woulda prob been a lot better, dunno how they're gonna fill 6 more episodes but we'll see. it was cute seeing the backstory of megumin's cape, staff and eyepatch tho

Imas CG: U149 Ep6

very good episode, in every way, voices, character acting, like usual I know ofc ofc. it's funny seeing haru always comparing idol stuff to soccer to make it more relatable to herself while the producer plays along (as he should) while everyone else is flabbergasted. as soon as they were talking about outfits at the start I knew what the ep was gonna be about (and what the solution was) but it was still good. and let me tell you, it was extremely brained for them to have the new LiPPS song as the insert for the anime at the same time as the event for it came out in the game, it's free hype real estate baby.

Mashle Ep6

I was actually pretty impressive with how the fight looked (compared to the rest of the anime) and the addition of him and mash's reflection on the metal (wasn't in the manga I checked) was really cool. it gives me some hope for the future of the anime, not much but some hope.

Pokemon Horizons Ep6

good ep but it's weird as hell just seeing shiny ray in an anime episode. done with the roy introduction arc so things can start moving forward now, tho they still won't be getting to paldea next time. however they did tease that the bocchi voiced character is part of the ship, which is funny cause they always show the damn duck in her videos so it was right there all along, we're just blind fools

Jigokuraku Ep7

nice episode, next one is gonna be The Door and the start of quite a long stretch of action, tho it won't extend to the finale. considering where we are I have a pretty good idea where it'll end (setting off from the cave iykyk). I thought it was pretty funny how they straight up just delete the tensen's nipples instead of using god rays or stuff like that since it'd be too much of a bother during fights, and honestly I much prefer this to making the fights look worse. however they did use god rays to censor mei so that was good. also also when I was reading it I said this, and during the ep I looked it up and they do indeed all have the same seiyuu, one for the female form (kaida yuuko) and another for the male (suwabe junichi), so that's v fun, glad they actually went through with it

Manga

Nue's Exorcist Ch1

MAN, out of the 4 new series, even with fujimaki and the shokugeki duo, this was the series I was the most excited for but if I had to be honest it had the weakest ch1 out of all of them :( it's a real shame. the art is really good, very clean lines and very readable, everything stands out as it should and the designs are good. however, I don't think it did a good enough job at setting up it's premise as the other 3, rn it's basically just the mc going "I want to be strong enough to protect everyone" and I don't think that's enough. we'll see how it goes in the next few chaps, but if something of note doesn't happened in the next handful of chaps I could easily see it suffering the same fate as tokyo demon bride which would be sad. I'll try to keep my hope up anyway, I know I only feel like this cause I had such high expectations for it when I shouldn't but oh well

Blooming Love Ch1 - 3

didn't really have any expectations going in but it's pretty cute art club president meets a craftsman girl, who is trying to get better at art, and becomes captivated by how earnest she is about things art is very nice and clean and the characters are expressive, could be a nice little romance if it can last for some time

jump + title and first indie series to get picked up by m+ it's kinda like an alt universe sakamoto, the premise is "the safest kindergarten in the world" which is protected by criminals trying to earn their freedom it currently has around 30 chaps so it's gonna take a while to catch up even if they do 2 or 3 chaps a week anyway it's good, I was the most surprised by how good the action looks but even outside of that it's good. at the end of chap 2 I was like "I hope the formula isn't always like this or it'll get old fast" but chap 3 was completely different so that got rid of my worries. I can totally see why it's so popular in jp (over 1M views weekly) so looking forward to the extra chaps til we catch up in the coming months

1. Why don’t you ship it?

Hmmm, Fives and Echo as characters just don't do much for me in any ships in general? Something about there not being much room for creative interpretation, or Making Up Funny Lies in my case, to make the ship fun. Plus as much as I like Ahsoka and Echo individually, neither of them are really in the Blorbo Zone for me, so active shipping from me is out.

2. What would have made you like it?

*shrug* Ahsoka and Echo are fun characters, I like them fine, just together they don't really crunch between my teeth, you know? Like they're friends, they're comrades, they're cool, I support them but iyam moving on.

3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Like I said I like them both individually and, again, if you're into "childhood friends-to-lovers"-type ships then this seems up your alley and I'll probably read fic or meta or reblog art of them if I come across them!

1. What made you ship it?

I think during one of the Rarepair Exchanges I saw @cabezadeperro request them and I thought they'd be fun to try my hand at! I ended up not finishing the fic because it was very, hmmm, syrupy in a way that I was sure María wouldn't particularly enjoy, but the attempt solidified the ship in my brain as something to eventually try again.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I always like Anakin/Clone ships because for all Anakin's flaws he's genuinely caring, especially of the clones, and I wish we'd seen more courting or married behavior with Padmé in the movies because I think he'd be a good boyfriend/husband. And we don't know much about Fox but we do know that he's charged with pretty much the protection of the heart of the Republic and probably sees a bunch of crazy shit just patrolling on Coruscant or whatever. So mixing the two is fun because Anakin already feels a sense of connection and camaraderie with clones while Fox has been home guard basically the entire war and has become much more accustomed to nat-born civilians than the 501st or 212th, so it'd be like. Hilarious attempts to meet each other where they are but bypassing each other because they're actually coming at it from, like, opposite angles or something. Like culture clash squared because they're each assuming the other's culture is the same as what they're used to. Idk the potential's just fun imo.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Well, Anakin isn't fucking stupid or oblivious and my version of Fox is neither particularly stoic nor stim-addicted nor 12-seconds away from a nervous breakdown.

My general thoughts & opinions on them

i did not expect to like lissa as much as i do. she's cute and bubbly and is my sunshine child in a game with so many hardships. it took me some time to warm up to her but i now absolutely adore her (and it doesn't hurt that in warriors she's swinging around a bigass axe like it's nothing -- girlboss shit right there)

Favorite moment of theirs

i've always liked the scene after fighting "marth" in ferox where lissa starts going on about how "he's so dark and mysterious... he's so dreamy..." it's just very funny to me knowing that it's actually her niece she's talking about. i don't have a great recollection of awakening because it's been a while since i last played but every so often i think about that bit and have a little giggle.

Favorite support chain

good LORD i do not remember. i went through some of her supports and the ones with frederick are standing out among them (also, i don't think i unlocked half of those in game! they feel very new to me). i think the idea of lissa teaching frederick to relax is goddamn hilarious and would be a sight to see.

My dream FEH alt for them

okay so she's already got valentines and winter yeah? i'd love to see a halloween alt for her. she's got the right energy to really have a good time in costume and i just think it'd be a fun little time!

law slips on killer's lap soundlessly, it's not the first time he does so in the middle of the night when the thoughts weigh too heavy on him and his mind refuses to give him a blissful slumber. golden eyes look over the many plants scarred between small pieces ready to prepare smaller models that one day would aim to cause destruction. "if you wouldn't rely on weapons, what would you like to build? i mean, let's say you could travel freely and did not have to think of fighting, just go and explode and do whatever comes to mind."

the surgeon thinks of the ship they are sailing on, all the little things scarred across it that make every day much easier. kid's mind is full of wonders and there is so much he could imagine for the captain to come up with besides those weapons that one day will take down those who dared to rip those they loved from them.

"i'll give you an example from my perspective, i'd love to focus on research. just take as much time as i want while then just practicing as a simple doctor who does not always rely on devil fruit. i know, i use it so naturally often at this point but just taking care of silly cuts or tell you that your headache is caused by the lack of sleep."

his eyes finally close as he rests his head against the shoulder, a soft sigh leaving his lips. "something like that ... mh where killer just worries about what to make for dinner."

He slips his arms around the smaller man, chin resting against his shoulder. Sleepy Law is an interesting character, prone to mumbled ramblings and soft cuddles. Out of all of them he still seems to have the most trouble sleeping, though Killer has noticed he at least stays put when all three of them are tangled together in bed. Tonight though, Kid's up late working on yet another idea, leaving him a quiet moment to get some reading done. At least until the surgeon's arrival.

He sets the book down, humming thoughtfully. To travel freely, with no concern for battle. It's funny, really. Pirates are all about freedom, but of course it comes with a price. There's always the need to pull out a blade, either for protection from others seeking their own version of freedom, or those looking to limit it in the name of the World Government. "Heh. I could see that for ya. Think you'd settle someplace, or keep on sailin'? Like, a travelling doc?" He wonders if, once this adventure is over, Law will have that chance.

"Worryin' about jus' dinner might be nice fer a bit, but I think it'd get pretty boring, fwahaha!" He threads his fingers into Law's hair as he considers. "Well, maybe I'd learn t' cook proper, though dunno if I've got th' patience fer culinary school." He sighs. "Can't imagine ever settlin' down though, don't think it suits me, Kid, or any o' this lot. Probably just keep on sailin', explorin' th' world. Kid thinks that not even th' World Government really knows every island that exists. But even if everything is all mapped, it doesn't really make it any less interestin' t' visit places ya never been before. I think it'd be fun just t' see what's out there with my own eyes. As fer Kid, well, I don't think he'll ever stop buildin' things, weapons or not. He'll keep right on tryin' t' create whatever that mind of his comes up with! Maybe he'll make stuff t' help people instead. Or maybe jus'... art fer art's sake."

(Gary anon) I remember when Goh's concept art was first shown; some, if not most thought he was non-binary or used "they/them" pronouns. (Especially with his name not leaning any particular way; it's just "Go") And with Chloe appearances being sporadic, this is the first time a m/m relationship gets to be dominant in a generation series for once; where in previous series they either tied with certain m/f ships or were drowned out considerably by them. (Same, if the dynamic is strong

(Part 2) to begin with, I don't mind it as much. But literally any character; usually female, that gets mentioned as a love interest; I have to brace myself on them [or the "bond"] being near non-existent throughout most of the story) One thing I wish more writers would understand is that romantic partners of main characters literally can't be off-screen as easily as friends and family can. If people end up feeling like the bond is "stronger" with the friend [who appears more] than the spouse

and THAT becomes the popular ship, you can't blame the audience for what they've been given) Heh, when the foundation isn't there, sometimes you have to make it yourself. I have seen some rarepairs get their lucky breaks in canon later; often due to their dedication. (Even Misty and Dawn; who I have seen shipped with Gary, Green always wins out in content. Probably cause the first two have more popular ships surrounding them) For Leon, I highly suspect Ash to use his JN team against him.

(Part 4) Since AG, Ash always uses his new regional team for a full battle at least once, usually against prominent rivals. Unless Ash is fighting Bea again; which I doubt, the all-star PWC team is fighting Leon. Now, something that has Charizard, Infernape, Greninja, etc. on the same team? Can't see them double-dip on that with Leon. (I'll always consider the Johto League battle an important one for both, but I think even back when I first saw it air, something felt off about it. Kinda rushed.

(5) Now that Ash and Gary feel more fleshed out since then, I want a battle to highlight that. Their eternal bond; something that feels more "them") Feels too early to be Goh's last or else it just reinforces that PM should've been introduced much earlier. And, there's still the adventure to find Mew. (I'm glad Gary's teasing nature is back, but I really hope there's a flashback of him provoking Ash to re-showcase that concept [of pushing Goh to new heights] and not just an attempt to 'redo' OS)

I remember that! Nonbinary Goh is still a very good take. And yeah, Journeys feels so very gay and I love it. Goh and Chloe's friendship feels like gay/lesbian solidarity, Ash and Goh have such an adorable dynamic, and Chloe bonding with Dawn was delightful.

Yeah, I feel that. There's something I can't help but find a little funny about how some media (especially shonen anime/manga) ends up coming across as super gay because of misogyny--the lack of development for female characters means the protagonist's male friendships end up so much stronger than his relationship with his supposed love interest.

Yeah, rarepair shippers really put in the work and it's very cool to see (and both very fun and sometimes very tiring to do).

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me--I don't use FFNet much anymore because AO3's whole interface feels so much nicer (and there's no ads), but from what I've seen I'd honestly expect Gary/Leaf to be the most popular Gary ship there (though due to FFNet only letting people tag a maximum of four characters, it'd be hard to check); on the other hand, over on AO3 I did check and the most popular Gary ship there is PalletShipping (a win for the LGBT community, haha).
