Expect The Unexpected
(Melvinborg x Reader;; Chapter One)
"What did you do?"
You were honestly wondering the same thing.
How did you get here? Well to make a long story short, you grew too attached to this man named Melvin Sneedly and now you're stuck with him in the past. Interesting butterfly effect.
You stared at the now broken time machine, contemplating how to respond to his question. "Well I think I just broke our way back." You shrugged nervously, earning an annoyed groan from him. "Obviously! You obviously broke it! I- Why can't you ever realize when my questions are rhetorical?" He ask, exasperated; clutching at his hair with his human hand. "I do realize, I just think it's funny to respond anyway." You answered honestly. He sighed, "Well it isn't, it's just infuriating."
"Okay well here's a genuine question- since we're in the past, can't we just borrow the time-toad from here? I know you- well, uh, past you- has one." You asked as he glared at you. "No. We can't do that. Want to know why?" He spoke through gritted teeth, continuing before you could respond, "Because if I use the timetoad that isn't from the future specifically, it could cause a rip in the space time continuum! So no, (Y/N), we can't just 'borrow the Time-Toad from here', you absolute dolt. I'll have to find a new time rift to connect to the Time-Toad before either of us can go back." He stated, folding his arms. "And uh, approximately how long would that take?" You asked, smiling weakly. "Oh, probably not long, at the very least it would take five months but that's not long at all." He responded sarcastically, earning a nervous chuckle from you.
"Sweet crackers, why did I have to be stuck with you?" He grumbled to himself while looking around, which honestly stung but you tried not to take that to heart. Afterall, he was usually like this. "Well at least you don't have to work alone now? I can be an assistant! I've seen some of the stuff Krupp has to do as principal, it's not simple." You offered. "That's-" He paused, looking at the ground in thought, "That's actually not the worst idea. I'm sure it's easier than you're making it seem- afterall, you probably don't want to be abandoned- but having an assistant is better than doing all the work myself." He shrugged.
"Though I'll probably end up doing that anyway. Full offense, you're not the brightest lightbulb in the box." He added, causing you to roll your eyes, "Wow, that's interesting considering you always partnered with me for group projects." You teased. "I've told you before it was purely because you were the least juvenile, I would've picked anyone else if I could have." He snarled, earning a simple "uh-huh" from you.
"So what now boss man?" You asked, looking around. You recognized where you were- you grew up here afterall- but what were you supposed to do from here? "Well I was going to just put my plan into action, but now I have to explain it to you before anything else-" He started before you interrupted, "Or we could find somewhere to stay and then you could tell me?" He quickly whipped his head towards you and glared, "Don't interrupt me." He said through gritted teeth before continuing more calmly, "But yes, we can do that. Luckily I wasn't some idiot who jumped into a time machine without thinking, so I have money for a place. You're paying me back when you get the chance."
With that, the two of you began walking into the town of Piqua, Ohio and began looking for a hotel. As the sky darkened you got noticably more nervous and timid, jumping at the slightest noises. "Goodness gracious- Give me your hand." Melvin ordered, stopping his walk and holding out his robotic hand. "Why-?" You stopped as well and tried to ask, but he quickly chimed in, "Don't ask, just hold my hand before I change my mind." You hesitantly held his hand before he continued to walk, you following close behind. You noticed his hand warm up a bit, which felt nice since it was beginning to get cold, and you decided not to point it out.
It didn't take too much longer to find a hotel for you both to stay at for the night, it was called The Happy Hotel, which wouldn't have been your first choice but you really couldn't be picky at the moment.
You and Melvin walked in, him pulling out a wad of cash from his pocket as you approached the front desk. "Hello! Welcome to The Happy Hotel!" The lady at the front desk said with a cheery tone. "Just one room," Melvin stated, handing the cash to the lady. "Great, would you two like the couples discount?" She asked as she put the money into the register. You were about to object but Melvin responded before you managed to, "Yes."
You just stood there in shock as he grabbed the room key and began leading you to the room. "Wh- We're not dating though-?" You managed to squeak out. "I know, you broken lightbulb, I just said that for the discount. Why do you think I'm still holding your hand?" He questioned, causing your face to heat up from embarrassment. "Oh- that makes sense." You mumbled, causing him to mutter to himself in reference to you, "Moron."
Once you both entered the room you'd be staying in, Melvin quickly let go of your hand and recoiled from you. "There's really only one bed?" Melvin groaned as you both realized that indeed, there was only one bed. There was also a couch though. "Alright- I'll sleep on the couch, you need to actually sleep so you can be at least a little bit helpful." Melvin stated, grabbing a blanket from one of the bedside drawers before getting comfortable on the couch. "But then I'll feel bad- can't we just sleep in the bed next to each other?" You questioned. "And get your germs on me? No thank you." Melvin quickly responded before abruptly laying on his side and facing the couch, away from you.
"Are you sure-?"
"Yes, (Y/N), I'm sure. Now go to bed." He said, sounding tired and annoyed. You hesitantly laid in the bed- and it wasn't very comfortable but you really didn't have the right to complain, you got yourself into this mess.
You laid down, though you were unable to sleep. "Melvin, are you sure-" You started before he quickly cut you off, "For the last time, yes, I'm sure. Go to sleep." You still were unable to sleep. "Melv-" "Good night, (Y/N)!"
"Okay, okay," You mumbled, trying to get more comfortable in the bed, seeing if that would help. It barely did. "Goodnight, Melvin," You whispered before finally closing your eyes, but you knew it'd be a while before you actually fell asleep.
This was going to be a wild ride.
