Part 2: 70 Heart Kisses (1D years)
This post is in three parts:
When Harry got the Heart tattoo
70 Heart Kisses (1D years), and
70 Heart Kisses continued. (Solo career)
The amazing @womanexile and @this-daydream-is-dangerous-13 started this off with finding a good chunk of these. This is by no means a complete list, I think that would be impossible.
It’s also important to note that only Harry knows what this tattoo is about, why he kisses it or if that is for one person and who that may be. Below is a list of times he has kissed it with other events at that time. To me, many kisses appear to be about personal milestones.
2013
In the 2013 timeline Harry and Taylor started the year infamously with the blue dress on a boat. Taylor went to London after Harry's birthday, they seemed neither together nor properly single.
12 March 2013 - Dublin - While Niall gave a speech referring to Ireland, his home, Harry kissed the heart. (1:07) Home is clearly special to Harry. Taylor had just sold her Hyannis Point House, in the EHC secret message, ‘August’ and ‘I Love You’.
21 April 2013 - Manchester before Back for You (1:20) this is before Harry went to LA during a break both he and Taylor had from tour, Harry started wearing the peace ring.
16 June 2013 - Louisville - Harry was feeling himself during “Last First Kiss” and at the end was flirting with someone in the crowd, he mimicked pole dancing then he kissed his heart tattoo (4:04). A few days before, Taylor was in London and did an interview with Nick Grimshaw where he said Best Song Ever 4 times and we saw the Never Gonna Dance tattoo for the first time as he got off a party boat. To me this kiss was similar in meaning to the song Careless Whisper - a commitment to be faithful. This is close to the anniversary of Taylors 2011 Lover Journal entry days after Harry was MIA in the US when Taylor had the Temper Trap arm lyrics in St Paul.
2 July 2013 - New Jersey - during “Change My Mind” (0:23) Harry had gotten the cross tattoo the day before and would be in the same city as Taylor soon.
6 July 2013 Hersey during One Way or Another (29 mins). Near Taylors first home while she was also in Pennsylvania and then not seen for 7 days. While Harry and Taylor were both in Pennsylvania, at the next show Harry threw up off stage.
7 July 2013 - Hersey - Last First Kiss, heart kiss at (0:17) (might be a nose wipe) after Niall gets a lyric wrong and other arm at (2:09)
2 August 2013 - Las Vegas - at the start of “Last First Kiss” (0:06). This was in the lead up to the VMAs which Harry and Taylor were texting each other and in the after party at. Taylor had a Lover Journal a week later where she describes the feeling in I Know Places.
13 October 2013 - Auckland - While watching Niall joke about being 'Niley Cyrus' before introducing Last First Kiss (0:17) and again after his chorus before Liam’s part (2:39).
17 October 2013 - Melbourne - after More Than This, (5:09) kissed the anatomical and black hearts. In the same show, Harry cried in Over Again and rushed off to vomit backstage. Taylor was seen with Alexander Skarsgard 3 days later.
2014
At the start of the 2014 Timeline Harry was seen backstage at Red when Taylor cut her hair. On Valentines Day Taylor posted a Shirley Temple quote “There’s nothing like real love” and Harry got the Anatomical Heart Tattoo, which he interchangeably kisses with the first heart tattoo. After this they were seemingly together again, Style and Stockholm Syndrome were written soon after. They were seen at parties together and Harry also got the fern tattoo covering “might as well…”.
8 May 2014 - Rio de Janeiro - in yellow shirt during “You and I” (1:21) on “Silence and sound / did they ever fight like us?” and again (2:38) “['I see what it's like for day and night / Never together,] Cause they see things in a different light like us” before the chorus, which he sang with his eyes closed, and again during Little Things (0:24) on ‘your hand fits in mine like it was meant to be’. The tour has only just started. Harry had been in the same city as Taylor since January. Harry kissed the heart on lyrics about being apart from his love and worrying about the relationship.
26 May 2014 - London- Niall’s charity football match, after scoring the penalty shot Harry hugged Niall then kissed his heart tattoo (1:22) 1D, Ed, Lorde and Lily Allen had played Radio 1 Big Weekend before this and Ed wrote 18 this week. Taylor was MIA, she had been in NY then reappeared a week later in Shanghai.
1 June 2014 - Manchester - start of Story of My Life (0:12) Harry Kissed things I can.
8 June 2014 - Wembley during ‘You and I’ (0:41) on “'Cause they see things in a different light like us” again. This was the last show before a week’s break, Harry wasn’t seen, Taylor had shows in Asia.
17 June 2014 - Copenhagen - ‘You and I’ (1:22)
30 August 2014 - Chicago - You and I (0:29) Last show before both Harry and Taylor are MIA.
13 September 2014 - Rose Bowl Los Angeles, during You and I on “did they ever hold each other tight like us?” (1:21) Harry had chest pains later in this show. Harry and Taylor had the week before off and both went from London and LA, 2 days earlier the Rolling Stone article ‘things you learn hanging out with Taylor Swift’ included: “now I go in thinking, ‘How long do we have on the clock — before something comes along and puts a wrench in it, or your publicist calls and says this isn’t a good idea?'”
16 September 2014 - Phoenix- You and I - after “Silence and Sound, did they ever hold each other tight like us?” (1:22)
20 September 2014 - iHeartRadio festival - Las Vegas - on the “Little Things” chorus (1:13). Harry looks like his mind is wandering, and trying to focus on the song. Harry and Taylor both played the iHeartRadio festival that weekend, Taylor played songs from Red, Love Story and Shake it Off.
23 September 2014: Tulsa - on “Better than Words” chorus (4:23) and in C’mon C’mon at (1:14)Harry was hurt earlier in the show but was seemingly in a good mood. Taylor was seen in NY this day, but had been MIA since the 19th when they were at the iHeart festival together.
28 September 2014: Charlotte - during “Right now” (0:06, and nearly again 1:40) Charlotte a few days before Tampa. Taylor held 1989 secret sessions in Nashville this day and talked to sessions about Harry. On their 28 September Anniversary
3 October 2014: Tampa Florida during “Right Now” Between ‘lights go down’ and ‘lets go crazy’. (1:00 and 2:20). This was the second last show before both Harry and Taylor went to London, Taylor did a Riptide performance on BBC 1 5 days later with the lyric "I love you when you're singing that song / And I got a lump in my throat / 'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong"
2015
Harry and Taylor dated throughout the rest of 2014. At the start of 2015 timeline Harry went to LA 3 weeks early to start writing for MITAM and saw Taylor. This post on the 6th seemed to mark a break up and so began Harry’s horrible year, he was seen with Kendall and models after that.
11 February 2015 - Brisbane - WDBHG - things I can - (10:31) and the right shoulder at the start of you and I (1:18:27)
15 February 2015 - Melbourne- (Valentine’s Day in US) during Night Changes (0:13) The Style Music Video was released the day before (13th in the US). On what would have been their 1 year anniversary Harry kissed the heart.
20 February 2015 - Perth - ‘You and I’ (2:16) other shoulder kiss. During Happily in Perth Liam asked Harry "Are you OK?" (1:01), it was song 7 for 8 shows, then never played again. Harry posted a photo of a crosswalk B&W stripes caption 'chains around my feet'. His feet have 'never gonna dance again' tattooed on them, George Michael lyric about being faithful.
24 February 2015 - Osaka - Night Changes -Harry kissed the anchor tattoo (0:28) this was the last night happily was played ever, the show before Harry looked close to tears in Happily and Liam asked if he was ok.
25 February 2015 - Osaka - Night Changes (1:48) (there’s a great crowd shushing before this). Taylor was pictured with Calvin Harris the night before. Happily was replaced by Stockholm Syndrome this show after a few shows where Harry looked upset.
18 March 2015 Hong Kong - Night Changes an anchor kiss at the start (2:19) and heart kiss at (3:58) Before this, Harry walked so far back from the microphone Liam checked on him. This was the last show Zayn was at, this Reddit post gets into why the band probably expected him to finish that tour leg, they had a show with songs for his voice in 3 days. Taylor was in Nashville and Calvin was rumored to be seen with her at dinner. This may be a continuation of the Night Changes kisses. Tayvin then went public and the heart kisses become hard to find.
23 June 2015 - Sweden- during You and I anatomical heart kiss in Sweden after Liam sings “did they ever fight like Dan” (guitarist) (1:14) Taylor and Harry were both doing European shows. Harry posted a colour picture to IG, that he missed you Sweden, kissed the heart in Sweden the day Taylor flew to Glasgow then Harry posted it felt great to be in Sweden. The next day, Taylor’s Clean speech included “I’ve never been so sure that it’s treacherous and difficult to be happy in 2015.”
26 September 2015 London O2 during “Don't Forget Where You Belong” (3:55) Taylor was in Nashville and gave a longer than usual Clean Speech,it was one of 2 to refer to loss “I was in London making this album […] I was dealing with kind of getting over the loss of a relationship, and everyone else’s kind of speculation on it, and everyone else weighing in on everything I was doing.”
28 September 2015 - London - You and I (1:29) anchored kiss on “a different life like us”. On their 28 September Anniversary. Same show Harry talked to a fan about their anniversary. Taylor also talked about heartbreak and time in her Clean Speech the same night.
12 November 2015 - BBC Radio one lounge, during Torn. Before this, Harry was really struggling to get through "Story of My Life", he turned around twice, and ended the song on “the story of…” (2:13) This was the last push of promo for 1D about MITAM. The next day Harry said “you think it’s so funny you sing it” instead of the Perfect bridge and 3 days after Harry was so quiet on Xtra Factor it was on the news.

A new month, new favorite series. And this month it’s going to be spooky.

I have some treats for you. I have to admit it was hard this time to decide on three stories and maybe some of you are a little disappointed not to see their favorite monsters. I'm 100% a vampire fucker. I always was and always will be. So there's a lot of them in here today.

@sillyrabbit81 is one of my favorites. I don't think anything I've read by her has ever disappointed. But this one really needs more praise. The story of the Crown Prince of Vampires Henry and his mate Rowena is breathtaking. It is full of emotions and the plot will keep you hooked until you manage to read all 25 parts. And if that's not enough to draw you in, perhaps the cameo appearance of Werewolf! Alexander Skarsgard will make you read it. You definitely should!

Mikey (+Walter+August+Sherlock) x reader (💕🔥🌩, status: ongoing)
This is my all-time favorite supernatural story, ever! @raccoon-eyed-rebel built a world and a whole lore around this story that is absolutely spectacular. It's fun, it's romantic, it's heart-breaking, it's hot. And because she has the incredible talent to put more than just one Henry-shaped guy into a story and make it work, we get Mike, August, Walter and Sherlock to live with us. All of their characters are built so uniquely, you're going to love them all. So it's a good thing we're in a slowly developing reverse harem.
And because I'm an annoying little fan girl I got some glimpses and spoilers for it and let me tell you, @raccoon-eyed-rebel is going to give us some really good stuff for this one!

Second post, second time I have @daydreaming-in-letters on my list. Though this wasn't intentionally, it's far from a mistake. Because she is a favorite writer of me for a reason. And her Hades-AU is my favorite of her stories. It's absolutely unique. As always @daydreaming-in-letters knows exactly how to build worlds and atmosphere with her words. Let her take you to the underworld. Get to know Hades. In his divine form or his human resemblance. He will take your breath away.
Take a look at those stories, read, reblog, talk about them. Every time I see someone of my mutuals reblog something I recommended, my heart fills with joy. And be sure, the heart of the writer feels the same.

wildest dreams is about Alexander Skarsgård. the mv is obviously about an affair and the male lead is married to another woman. HS is like one inch taller than taylor so it doesn’t make sense to be about him ? harry literally said it himself “Cause I don’t want to hear about him, How he’s holding you better at night” its not that hard to get. literally only requires basic reading comprehension.

Back to the MV-related points.
It’s an affair is either of the parties was in a relationship; neither was. Especially AS, who was not then married. And does not even seem to be married now.
The MV takes whole scenes from iconic movies set in Africa; the plane scene is an almost frame by frame recreation of an iconic scene from Out of Africa. It’s primarily an homage to sweeping, epic films, and she cast a short king/nepo baby as the romantic lead.
I also disagree that the lines you cite from HS’s Him relate to this situation. It’s a CH-related track, particularly because it name checks a CH-Ellie Goulding collaboration (which shares its name with a some from Debut) - The Outside. I do not think that a fleeting encounter with AS (one of many TS allegedly had during the 2013-15 on-and-off period) would have precipitated a track filled with that much anguish.

There's a lot of things going on and it's tonight Bill Skarsgard and yes it's Luke George is Dave from space Odyssey 2001 and space Odyssey 2010 and they go to the Moon to investigate something and the movies are backwards and they see it and they don't believe it and I see it with equipment and they do trace it and they do see what it is and it came from Saturn they say and it's really not supposed to be there and they forced it and they made it and then they followed that's coming up pretty soon they find signal coming from the Moon and it is a relay and they do find something coming from the Moon to that thing and it looks like one of Garth ships. Other events are coming up but that apparently might be coming up pretty soon and it's because his father finds the transformers and not here since Chicago and they find a signal relay and it's most likely Bill's stuff and that's what they're fighting over already and that's why he's in Chicago and Bill shows up in California
-there are a few jokes going around and Bill is joking with his grandkid it's really the other way around a little they both started it on it
-there's some other things happening and they're pretty horrendous the morlock decided to attack the max and the Mac bases they struck the bases overseas in the eastern hemisphere and they're really tan of size and they hit all 10 and about 20 small ones and about 500 real small ones they hit a lot of stuff and it actually plus a couple navy bases and about three subterranean that were only sub training and that's about half of the basis of that kind they really don't have that many but they're looking for easy Intel tonight and they met with fierce resistance and then they started the Counter-Strike already and they started wiping out these forces that were gathering to go after the basis and they started to wipe out areas with them in it but specifically where they knew they were and they wanted fairly aggressively in the Western hemisphere they went to New York and Cincinnati and pretty much every major city and with spaceships too and they hit about 500 spots in each City and it's like a block each and that's a lot in the city is a mess in this fires they also hit the suburbs and they hit the Oscars in the Oscars they hit 300 areas they're bigger and all together and they're probably four by four miles and this is an almost every major city I should say it's about half the cities to strike the suburbs areas and they know where they are there and it's mostly just them it's a weird enclave and they hit like madness and those areas are big like 20 by 30 and they hit probably half of them they're still hitting them and we hate to say it but they're going to hit the eastern hemisphere there's only a few more places where these guys are and they're going to lay into them tonight
There's several other items they were attacking and yes her son fell asleep for about an hour and he is woken up and my he is harassing those who are harassing him just now they were tendium some kind of daydream. Nothing really happened it's just what they're doing and the more like are down and they are poor, they're giving a pizza by their boss no they are hit by the max and they're in a lot of trouble and the macks are on the tirade here in the east coast they started hitting and it hit five out of the 10 very large and so on in this case it's the morlock hitting the Mac baces. There are a lot of hits going on right now globally and it is the max.
Turns out the max hit 300 bases of cork and warlock really and that was in the Western hemisphere. Those bases were about 10x10 they hit them out 500 that are 8x5 and 3,000 that are 4x4 and they hit 10 that are about 20 by 20 and those are special bases down below the morlock had bunker systems that were probably by 40 by 60 they're pretty big and they had plans for those for the rest of society and they also destroyed 20 by 30 basis the bunkers below a 6x70x80 there there the empire proper and they're going nuts on them and they're hitting bases of operation 20x50 MI probably about three of those. Their time the tax in the Western hemisphere are Non-Stop. They're loading up for more attacks shortly and they will continue they said until the attitude changes and yeah the attitude is really stupid from our perspective as well.
There's a war in space waging and the morlock sent 400 million ships more to Venus and they were intercepted by the empire they said it too we all look like jackasses because of these losers they're hugely stupid they said the boys been giving orders to try and save his wife I'm not really getting what he's saying those people are somehow so they decided it was just stupid to let them continuously do that and it was another 400 million ships they lost they only have 400 million left and the empire is going to go after them and whatever is left of Tommy f and these people are idiots and just sit there waiting for it.

Jane, who had been sketching the terrain as they sped past, felt her mind wander to John. Still clutching her pencil, she studied him carefully and began to draw. Absorbed in his reading, he took no notice, leaving Jane the ability to observe uninterrupted. She appraised his intelligent face, his wild hair, his large, rough hands. Outwardly, he didn't look any different than when they had left the port, but something in his bearing had changed now that they were back in Africa. Was it confidence? Anticipation? Whatever it was, Jane liked it. Even after years together, he took her breath away.
Soon she was daydreaming.

I was watching wildest dreams mv today and I just noticed that there is a makeout scene almost identical to 'the notebook'. I know most people think WD is about Alexander skarsgard but this is something I found interesting.
wildest dreams is such a breathtaking video, it really is one of my favorites (my love of old hollywood, no one is surprised!). i think it's the last video she ever kissed a costar in, isn't it? (scott eastwood was an excellent choice.) secret swiftie confessions: i actually rather dislike the alexander theory and don't feel like it holds up, but then again i prefer to separate wildest dreams from any potential muse and keep it as a gorgeous vintage-inspired daydream.
i've never seen the notebook (i know!), so i'm not sure what the connection is, you can elaborate if you want to!

You looked up impatiently at the clock hanging on the office wall for the fourth time in a minute. Eric was late, again. The incessant ticking was beginning to seriously bug you, and there was a chill in the air that made every hair on your body stand on end. Another thing you cursed Eric for, recalling the same answer he gave you every time you complained about the temperature in his office.
“I’m a vampire, why would I need to get the A/C fixed?”
Eric had recently fitted a mirror behind his desk for your activities, as he called them, and you gazed at yourself while you waited for what felt like hours. After all, someone had to appreciate the lingerie set you had just completed some sort of gymnastics to get into. The crimson lace fitted you perfectly, and you knew that Eric had had this made especially for you, knowing exactly the type of fit and material you liked, which in turn had cost him a small fortune. You often wondered his motives for paying so much for something you could only ever wear once, as it took a mere matter of seconds before your panties were torn and your stockings had five finger shaped holes ripped into them. To your surprise when you had opened the box, there was a studded collar sitting atop the lingerie with a buckle at the back. It had taken you a while to psych yourself up to ask Pam to fix up the buckle for you, but she simply laughed and pulled the buckle tight, stating “he’ll like it like that.”
Your teeth had begun to involuntarily sink into your lip, the more you thought of Eric, the harder you bit down. The only thing that snapped you out of this trance-like state was the feeling of a warm dripping down your chin and onto the exposed skin of your upper thigh. As you focused your eyes against the mirror once more you noticed a crimson trail running down your chin, matching the shade of your underwear. At that second you realised exactly why Eric had chosen to dress you in red.
Almost instantaneously the office door swung open, hitting the wall with such a force that you were surprised it remained on its hinges. You didn’t want to look into the doorway as you heard a low, animalistic growl. You had disturbed Eric from his work, and you knew that you had to pay the price.
“Well, well, well.”
You gulped as you heard that voice. That voice that caused a shiver to ripple through your entire body and make your pulse quicken. Taking a deep breath, you slowly turned your gaze over to the doorway where Eric was stood. His head was cocked slightly to one side, his eyes darkened with lust and his fangs already out.
Just as you were about the wipe the blood from your chin he grabbed your forearm, his sudden movement making you jolt as you had never quite gotten used to his vampiric abilities.
“I think you’ll find that’s mine.” His tone startled you slightly, his fingers gripping at your arm tighter as he studied the trail running down your chin, watching intently as another drop landed on your thigh. He stepped closer to you, parting your legs with one hand as he moved with ease between them, his bulge pressing against your crotch as he dragged his tongue up your chin, his eyes rolling back as though he was already in complete ecstasy.
Your breathing quickened as he reached your lips, his tongue trailing over the small nick in your bottom lip as you felt your chest heaving against him, finding it a little difficult to breathe properly as the collar sat tightly around your neck. Eric could feel exactly what you were feeling. Every beat, every deep breath, every acceleration of your pulse. That was what he thrived on, the humanness of it all; each beat of your pulse anchored him back to his own humanity, something which he had deeply struggled with before he had met you. It was so long ago, so buried, that he never expected to be able to feel its warmth again.
He pulled back to gaze at you, his eyes raking up and down your semi-naked body as he studied the set of lingerie he had envisioned for you. His imagination hadn’t done you any justice, as you looked ethereal in the specially crafted lace design that fitted every part of you perfectly. A small smirk began to creep onto his lips as he his eyes caught onto the collar that had been tightly buckled around your neck, just as he had pictured it.
“Are you going to be a good little girl?” He grazed his long, cold fingers against your neck and traced along the collar.
“Yes, Eric.” Your voice was faint and your throat felt dry as you watched Eric begin to kneel before you.
His eyes never left yours as he knelt down, hands on your knees prising your legs further apart as he breathed in deeply, inhaling your sweet scent. He began to walk his fore and middle finger up your thighs, humming mischievously as he reached the waistband of your panties. His forefinger curled around the elastic, giving it one slight tug, filling the office with a tearing sound. You gasped as you felt the cold air hit you, and Eric let out another growl, wasting no time in burying his face in your inner thigh.
The sharp pain was one that had taken some getting used to at first, but now you barely even flinched as you felt Eric sink his fangs into your flesh. You were a little surprised when he pulled back so quickly, as he usually fed for a few minutes, sometimes even longer, when he had been busy with Fangtasia’s accounts paperwork. You furrowed your brow, about to question him when he dipped his finger into the small wound on your inner thigh, collecting up a small pool of your blood. He proceeded to then move his blood-coated finger against your clit in a slow circles, the sensation making your toes curl and your head fall back.
“Mmmmm, tasty.”
Eric’s tongue then began to lap at your clit, his hands firmly gripping your thighs as he muttered soft words of appraisal against you. When your head lolled forwards you caught a glimpse of the debauched scene in the mirror before you, the visual element of the act providing you with a new wave of pleasure.
You could feel a knot beginning to form in the pit of your stomach as Eric wrapped his lips around your clit, delivering a mixture of sucks and gentle bites as his guttural groans caused small vibrations to course their way through your lower body. You were getting closer and closer to your climax, and Eric knew it. Once again he pressed his middle finger against the still-bleeding wound on your inner thigh before smearing the slick of blood against your clit, working it into the most sensitive part of you with his ever-skilled fingers. You threw your head back once more, long strings of moans leaving you as you felt every muscle in your body tense and every nerve begin to quiver.
Then he stopped.
“You didn’t think it’d be that easy, did you?” Eric stood up and straightened his jacket, licking his lips in what felt like an attempt to mock you.
You felt your bottom lip wobble as the aching sensation between your thighs only worsened, reaching out your arms as you attempted to grab onto his jacket, but he simply took a step backwards so he was out of your grasp.
“N’aw, poor little girl. You thought I was going to let that pretty little pussy of yours come, didn’t you?”
You nodded, not knowing what else to give him as he gazed down at you with a glint in his eyes.
He was then back between your legs in an instant, his right hand swooping behind your neck as he took hold of the buckle on the collar, making a strangled squeal form in your throat.
“Then maybe next time you’ll think twice about disturbing me.” He lifted his left hand and traced his forefinger gently across the small slit on your lip.
You wanted to protest, to tell him that distracting him from his paperwork wasn’t your intention, but you knew it would be futile. Instead you knew you’d have to wait, and as Eric walked out of his office and closed the door behind him you once again watched yourself in the mirror, the smears of blood further reminding you that you were Eric’s, and that however annoying, patience and delayed gratification were key elements of your relationship.

hi i don't know if anyone still cares about true blood but i'm rewatching season 4 and i would like your unfiltered opinion on sookie/eric pls

This will be a LONG post and likely need a read more so brace yourself. LETS GET UNFILTERED
First and foremost, I do ship Sooric. In the early books and in the entire television shows run they have OUT OF THIS WORLD chemistry. I loved the will they/won’t they, the angst, the sexual tension, and the yearning we got out of them.
Now, unfortunately, in both the show and book series, Sookie does not deserve Eric or his love and devotion. As much as I tried to fight this fact while watching the show, it is just true. Time and time again, Eric proves to her that he is trust worthy, that he adores her, listens to her, makes an effort to change for her, PROTECTS HER WITH HIS LIFE, and she is just too stubborn to let herself love him. Why? Bc he was an asshole to her??? Bc her abuser doesn’t like him??? It���s a hard pill to swallow while watching the show, bc it is so clear that Eric is the better man between him and Bill, but Sookie just can’t accept that. She can’t see past his past (even though Bill’s is just as murky) and writes off all of his change as deception or willfully chooses not to acknowledge it (We do see her stay continually warm toward him for s4-7 though, but still)
Obviously s4 is the best Sooric content we get (aside from the books which I will try not to mention much in this post, for all your Eric/Sooric book needs see @skarsgard-daydreams) which is pretty disappointing bc if you boiled down the season to just their scenes, it would last maybe a half hour? Forty five minutes? Maybe? And this was the big lead up we got after four seasons of Sooric being one of the most talked about and favored relationships in the series and pop culture at the time. It is very disappointing that the only real Sooric “relationship” moments we get in the entire series are when Eric had his memories erased and he wasn’t his true, authentic self. We do get Sookie admitting that she loves Eric in s4 which was great progress, and that she thinks she always had loved him (after how many gestures from Eric at this point tho? 🤔) but one constipated look from Bill and suddenly she can’t choose between them.
It is hard to watch the ending of s4 bc it is clear thay Sookie loves Eric, but she will never let herself be in love with him. Something that Eric struggles with for the remainder of the seasons (even though he respects her choice unlike someone else we know)
Those are my quick sooric/s4 thoughts
BUT
Bc I am currently binging Jenny Nicholson videos, let’s break down the rest of my thoughts about Sooric shall we? Let’s have three bullet points: Why I think Sookie rejected Eric in s4; What I would have done if I had written the show; and Why the writers broke them up/never gave them a chance.
Why did Sookie reject Eric in season 4?
The show tells us in s1 that because of her powers, Sookie has never had a boyfriend and is a virgin. She lives in a very small town and while she is desired, she hasn’t really found anyone to desire in return.
So, when Bill shows up and he is a vampire, (a concept she is fascinated with) good looking and charming, she falls for him without a safety net. I think even if Bill hadn’t given her his blood and therefore manipulated and sullied their entire relationship, she still would have been obsessed with him and would have wanted to pursue something with him. Just because he was something entirely different for her.
Sookie is sheltered, lacks any relationship/sexual experience, is a romantic, as well as largely isolated. Bill is the man of her dreams in many ways because he is new, he is exciting and worldly, but he is a man from the past who still believes in chivalry and courting and who her Gran likes and blah blah blah you know what I mean. Bc of the circumstances of which she meets Bill and how their relationship plays out (the ups and downs, love bombing, the grand gestures of love, him being her first everything, most importantly her first love, etc) she can’t let go of him, not only because of his blood in her system, but because of the weight and importance she put on their relationship in the first place. Her life was leading up to the point of meeting someone she could connect with like Bill, so her mind fixated on him hard.
After their break up, Sookie doesn’t think she can trust any other man (or vampire) ever again bc the one she had put so high on a pedestal had mortally wronged her. This is a fatal flaw for Sookie, she will not accept change or new information. Everyone is as they were when she met them. Such as Bill = good Eric = bad (even when both of their actions speak otherwise).
Sookie’s stubbornness shoots her in the foot time and time again, not just in her relationship with Eric, but with lots of the other characters. But to focus solely on Eric, her preconceived notion that Eric is the foil to Bill’s heroic lead never changes even when she knows that Bill is not the great man she thought he was, and when Eric proves that he is not the monster she thought him to be.
In the end of s4, after Eric has his memories back and Bill is saved (or whatever who actually cares about Bill?) She tells Eric that Bill is the reason why they can’t be together. She loves Eric. They have just gone on a passionate and specular love affair that she very much enjoyed. Then why can’t she just choose Eric and get over Bill? To me, it feels like even her subconscious is too stubborn and refuses to let go of the weight Bill once held in her life — tied with her inability to see Bill as anything other than the “good” one. She does say that her love for him is something “chemical” (and unhealthy but that’s just me) bc he gave her her first taste of vampire blood, which does make sense. But it’s still stupid and I hate it ok??? Just another example of Bill ruining her life
In the end of the season, when they are both in bathrobes and finished feeding off Sookie to recover, Bill tells Sookie to be with Eric, but she still rejects Eric (but Bill too so, hey! Silver lining) Which was heartbreaking to watch, especially because of Alex’s performance.
I do think that in her own way, it was the right thing to do. She recognized that a part of her still loved Bill and couldn’t love Eric with her entire heart. Along with her explained hang ups on Bill’s importance in her life and her stubborn mostly irrational fear of her original interpretations of Eric being right and getting hurt again. I do think she truly loved him, but just never enough (but at least had the heart to not leadhim on like book!Sookie but I digress)
Eric always deserved better than someone who was so wishy washy about their feelings for him. Which I know is a weird thing to say when I do ship Sooric but things don’t always have to make sense lol
What I would have done if I had written the show
Sookie not being with either of the people in the show’s love triangle (yknow, pretty much the whole premise? The whole selling point??) is boring. If you don’t like that sentiment, I know you will at least agree that not having Sookie even interact with the two other people in the show’s proposed love triangle — who are both still very much around and alive — is boring AND stupid. So if I were a writer on the show, what would I have done? Well, I would have had Sookie choose Eric in the end of s4 (duh) but keep most everything else exactly the same. I don’t want to say I would give the show an entire overhaul bc there is a lot I like about the later seasons (and a lot I don’t but ok) so I would just want to focus on the once main focus of the show, romance; and the main focus of this ask, Sooric.
In the end of s4 Sookie chooses Eric. She is able to let go of her past with Bill and wants to learn to grow with Eric. And while she knows a part of her will always love Bill and care for him, she knows that what she has with Eric is real and wants to be with him. They embrace, it is very emotional, tears on both ends and they declare their love once again.
I don’t remember when Eric and Bill are kidnapped, if it was the end of s4 or the beginning of s5, (keep in mind I haven’t watched this show all the way through in almost a year) but that still happens. Bill and Eric are kidnapped by the authority and blah blah blah again. BUT! In my rewrite, now Sookie is distraught and heartbroken and PISSED and will do anything to find Eric. The rest of the season is spent not only trying to deal with vampire Tara, but trying to get Pam on her side to go find Eric. Lots of crying and love lorn yearning ensues. Maybe a few flashbacks from missing scenes from other seasons.
All the while, Eric is basically going through the same thing. Scratch the vague Nora incest plot line and just give us lots of Eric bragging about his bad ass fairy girlfriend so much that Bill and Nora are gagging. Lots of anger and love lorn yearning ensues.
In the end when Sookie, Pam, Tara and Jason find the authority, we just get a much more emotional and make out filled Sooric reunion. The elevator scene after they escape Bilith? Lots of Alex’s big ass hands cupping Anna’s face as they have a tender and exhausted moment.
Maybe in s6 they go on a good vacation over the break and in s7 we get lots of good angst with hep-V Eric and then more emotional reunions between the two. Hell, I will thrown in Pam learning to begrudgingly love Sookie over the seasons like she did in the books, bc I’m writing this now and I want that too!
In the series finale, I don’t think we need any confirmation about whether or not Sookie would be turned into a vampire. She made it clear with Bill she wasn’t keen on it, maybe she has changed her mind, maybe she hasn’t. Maybe we get a good few episode conflict between Sooric about her turning to spice things up. Who knows! But it would be good, ok.
I think we could sprinkle in some marriage and adoption/sperm donor conversations between the two throughout the series (played straight, for angst or for laughs) and in the end still have Sookie with her husband and pregnant belly, just have Eric be the one by her side.
Would it really change the outcome of the series plot wise all that much? NOPE. And yet? So much better, more fulfilling, interesting and actually makes sense in my opinion.
Lastly, why did the writers break up Sooric/never give them a chance?
If you don’t know, the first four seasons of True Blood follow the book series pretty accurately. Obviously there were changes and things kept out/put in, but the over arching plots and story are the same. After s4, I am unclear on why, but they did not continue to follow the book series as they had. Dead as a Doornail (the book that s5 would have been based on) came out in 2001 and the fifth season came out in 2012, so it wasn’t a GOT situation. The book series is convoluted and mostly stupid. Ch*rliene Harris fucks up her own stories and characters so royally that it makes no sense as to why she would sabotage herself so bad and so embarrassingly (but again for the books, go to Marie). In the fifth book, that would have coincided with the fifth season, Eric and Sookie are together. They are together for bulk of the series which is like 13 or 14 books. So, was this the reason the writers veered away from the books? Because they didn’t want Sookie and Eric together for the rest of the TV show’s run? It’s one of the things I can think of (I just did a quick Google search and couldn’t find anything on why they diverted from the books but if you know PLS comment) that they thought a stable couple after the drama of the love triangle would be too boring or safe.
This would make some sense if they had absolutely no knowledge of the books other than someone telling them that Sookie chooses Eric. Because the fucking drama between those two in the books is of epic proportions. They could have had them fight, break up, get back together, be apart with miscommunication, have big romantic gestures, fight scenes with lots of screaming for each other, the list goes on. But no. We get another three seasons of our three protagonists almost never all in the same room, never interacting or even liking each other. We get lots of meandering nonsense of side characters and plots that fizzle out. It made little to no sense to me why they would keep making the lore of TB more confusing and complex when they really didn’t need to. As much as I HATE Harris, she gave them more than enough vampire source material to make a series only about vampire bullshit. There was so much interesting stuff they never touched! No need for werepanthers or Sam’s brother.
I think the writers sorta got on their HBO high horse and thought they could make plot lines that were as strong as the source material (which was sorta just meh to begin with) and failed pretty miserably. They gave us some GREAT Pam and Eric moments (I like television Paric better than book Paric so thx I guess) but not much else. I do think they wanted to shock (?) fans and throw a wrench in things for fans who had read the entire book series. I am all for innovative thinking but like…… when it’s done well.
I know fan service is highly contested in fandom/non fandom spaces, but like….. in a show about vampire romance, you can have three seasons of no main character vampire romance. It’s a let down, and while I would have wanted it to be Sooric, it at least would have made more sense if Bill/Sookie played with getting back together or something in the later seasons (which I need you to know I am happy didn’t happen bc I HATE Bill and Sookie with him, but you get where I’m coming from)
So yeah sorry, I actually have no idea why they didn’t have Sooric end up together, so this wasn’t really an answer 😅
