Finally! The Store Shifter AU dad story!!
Holy shit this took so long, i’m still not fully satisfied with the ending but this story has been like genuinely over 5 months in the making so i’m leaving it as is. also this will need a part 2 so expect that hopefully in a shorter period of time than this one took!
guys this thing is like almost 5k words lol
tw vore: don’t like it don’t read it
“Bad, are you sure this is the best idea?” “Yes I’m sure, now be quiet, we’re almost there.”
Skeppy huffed, blowing a few loose strands of hair out of his face. Bad always got like this when they went on retrieval missions. The kind and funny (if not somewhat naïve) man he married buried beneath a stoic, focused outer shell. He couldn’t blame him, though. Humans were horrifying to be around, and if Bad felt like he needed to turn off everything to get them all out of there safely, so be it. Usually it was just the two of them, Skeppy and Bad against the world as it always seemed to be, but Sam was with them today. He’d been pretty silent through their walk, but Skeppy could sense the unease practically radiating off him. Sam was a builder, after all; he almost never went near humans. But, according to him, some homes in their colony had been damaged by storms and needed repair work that would be significantly easier with human tools.
So, here they were. Bad, Skeppy, and Sam, headed towards a human market. Skeppy had been fully opposed, but the hunt and crops had been poor at the colony, and their supplies likely wouldn’t be regrown until a few months from now if they were lucky. Bad suggested the human’s market, where he’d heard other borrowers say they’d seen humans come in with nothing and leave with bags full of god knows what. He was confident they’d be able to find the necessary rations there, and even if he was scared, he wouldn’t let Bad go to some human infested place without him. Then Sam had joined them and off they’d gone, promising the rest of the colony to be back in a day or two.
As they neared the market, Skeppy could see Bad tense. Anyone else wouldn’t have noticed the slight crease of his brows, the minute shaking of his hands. That’s part of what made him a great leader for their colony; he was able to stay calm and collected no matter what. But having known him for so long, Skeppy could read him like an open book. He was scared. Sam, meanwhile, wasn’t even trying to hide it. He was quaking, clearly terrified of going into a space filled with creatures he knows could and likely would kill him if given the chance. Skeppy, honestly, was equally terrified. They almost never ventured this far into human society, and certainly never into human inhabited spaces. But, all for the good of the colony.
They approached the building and saw humans leaving the store, making Skeppy’s stomach turn in fear. He was sure that his fear was just as noticeable as Sam’s was, and he wasn’t sure how Bad was managing to keep his cool while him and Sam were panicking right next to him. But somehow, Bad pressed them forward, and they had little choice but to follow. They’d already made it this far, and like hell Skeppy was gonna back down and leave Bad to do this alone now.
They managed to get in the door right behind a human before scurrying back to the shadows for safety the second they entered the building, and holy shit was it bigger than he’d thought it was. There were dozens and dozens of rows one hundred times bigger than any one of them, even if they were small compared to the trees of the forest. “We’ll have to search from above,” Bad whispered quietly, breaking the unspoken vow of silence that the three had been following since nearing the shop. “Skeppy, lend me a rope. We can hoist each other up on each level.”
So, that they did. One of them would climb, then throw a rope for the other two to climb to meet them, only occasionally having to hide behind whatever human product was nearest to avoid being spotted. Thank god there weren’t as many humans in the place as he’d initially thought there would be. After a while, the three had made it to the top, overlooking pretty much the entire shop. Skeppy took note that most of the food they’d need was farther back in the store, unfortunately, but at least the platforms they stood on were close enough together that they could jump them. He also took note that a good number of humans were leaving, which was great for them, but also meant that night was likely coming soon, so they had to be fast. It wasn’t safe to travel the woods at night. Bad seemed to recognize this, as he gestured for Skeppy and Sam to follow him, leading them towards what they’d need. After a few more minutes of the three heading to the back, almost all the humans were gone except for a few in bright green vests. Skeppy reasoned that they were the ones who operated the place, if they all dressed the same and stayed when no one else did. But he wasn’t worried; what were the odds that the humans would look up to see them?
“Hey, Nick, you wanna head home early? You don’t look so good, I’m sure Dream wouldn’t mind.” Skeppy heard a human say. He knew it’d be best to stay back, but Skeppy was nothing if not stupidly impulsive. He leaned over the edge of the platform they’d been walking on, catching the attention of Bad and Sam too late to stop him. The human who had spoken was wearing a white sweater and gold chain with blonde hair and pale skin. He was talking to another human, “Nick” apparently, who was slumped over some boxes he was putting on a shelf, back turned to where the borrowers were. This one had a dark red hoodie and black beanie pulled over his head that almost matched the shade of his hair. The first human was right, though; if human body language read anything like a borrowers, this guy really wasn’t looking good. Nevertheless, he responded. “Hm? No, no, I’m fine, Punz, really.” He mumbled, barely looking up. The blonde one, “Punz,” didn’t look like he believed it for a second. “Bullshit. C’mere, let me take your temperature.” He said, pulling the other human to face him, and-
No.
No fucking way.
Skeppy could feel that Bad at this point had noticed his absence and had come over to drag him away from the conversation by force, but he shook himself free from his grip, eyes never leaving the scene in front of him. That was him. There’s no way it wasn’t. His hair was different, far different from the hazel brown he remembered, the same shade as his father’s, but it was him. He even had the discoloration around his eyes to prove it, the scar that had nicknamed him “Pandas” all those years ago. He looked older, much older, no longer the teen Skeppy remembered, and more tired. Worn down, even. He really did look sick.
Bad wasn’t letting go, and now Sam was trying to help him. Punz and Nick- no, Sapnap, he was sure of it- were still idly chatting below, Punz trying to convince Sapnap he needed to go and Sapnap insisting he was fine. At another insistent yank from Bad, Skeppy finally snapped, pulling away and grabbing Bad by the front of his hood, dragging his face close. “Bad,” he whispered as quietly as he could with tears threatening to spill from his eyes, “it’s our son.”
He saw Bad’s eyes light up for a moment before fear masked his expression. He looked down at Sapnap, who was now sat alone, staring at the ground. Punz must’ve left at some point without him noticing. Bad sat in stunned silence, and for once Skeppy couldn’t read his expression. An expression he could read, however, was Sam’s. He looked an odd mix of confused and mortified. Skeppy was confused at the odd reaction before it hit him; Sam didn’t know Sapnap was a shifter. “That’s Sapna-mph?!“ “Shh!!” Sam whisper yelled before Skeppy slapped a hand over his mouth. “Ok, i don’t know what he’s doing here but yes, it has to be. He can…do this. I mean, he can look human. But he’s not! It’s…it’s a long story, dude.” “I- He..what?? Bad, you knew about this?” Sam whisper yelled again, quieter. “…Yes.” Bad took a moment to answer, like it pained him to admit out loud that the ‘human’ down there was his own son. “How can…how long has he-“ Sam cut himself off as Sapnap’s head snapped up, revealing that his eyes were almost black with how large his pupils were. He looked out of it entirely. He looked…predatory.
Bad gasped, stumbling back from the edge of the platform he’d been watching from and fell to the ground, clutching his chest, unable to control his ragged breathing. Skeppy and Sam were immediately right there beside him, Sam trying to lead him through breathing exercises as quietly as possible as Skeppy asked him what was wrong. After a few moments, Bad managed to choke out words. “We- we need…to go. We..we need t- to go now.” “Why? What’s going on?” Skeppy asked. Before Bad could give any semblance of an answer, they heard boxes be knocked over. To curious for his own good, Skeppy went to see what it was, and Sam and Bad reluctantly followed.
Sapnap was stood again, back turned to the three as he looked up at one of the shelves near him. And there stood- “Alex?” Skeppy heard Sam whisper, hope full in his voice. Skeppy had almost forgotten that the day Sapnap ran away was the last time Sam had seen his own son. Quackity looked older, too. His hair was longer and he looked more well nourished and muscular than the scrawny, scrappy little boy Skeppy had watched grow up. He also still wore his stupid little bandana and the face covering Karl had made him after he’d got that gash through his mouth. But even with that mask on, Skeppy noticed the confusion and pity in his eyes as he looked at his boyfriend.
“Sapnap?” Quackity asked, but there was no response. He kept looking for a little bit before sighing and looking around. What for, Skeppy didn’t know, but what he did find was them. Skeppy saw Quackity’s eyes go wide as he noticed the three, and he looked horrified. Sam stood and waved, moving to say something before Quackity violently charaded to keep quiet. He then started to shoo them, and Bad immediately took the hint and tried to pull the both of them away, but Skeppy and Sam held their ground. “Why?” Sam said just barely loud enough for Quackity to hear across the aisle, but also loud enough for Sapnap to notice apparently, as he started to turn around towards them. “Just go!!” Quackity screamed, drawing Sapnap’s attention back to himself as his head snapped back. Quackity took a step forward about to yell something else before time froze.
Faster than he could blink, Sapnap had reached up and roughly grabbed Quackity off the shelf, holding him to his face for a short moment before stuffing him in his mouth. He could hear muffled yelling, too distant to make out any words, and could see indents of Quackity pushing against Sapnap’s cheeks trying to fight his way out. Bad was silent, ghastly white and completely unmoving, not even breathing, which left Skeppy to turn his attention away from the scene in front of him to keep Sam quiet. He quickly and forcefully wrapped his arm around his mouth and pulled him back, using his other hand to push Sam’s head into the crook of his elbow to muffle him. Sam was yelling and screaming; clawing, kicking, doing anything just to make Skeppy to let him go, but he endured it. It was all he could do to not think too heavily into what he’d just seen. There was no way Sapnap would…eat him. He’d watched Quackity and Sapnap grow up together. Before Karl came along, it’d really just been the two of them. They were best friends from the start, and early in their teenage years, it turned to something more. Sapnap cared more about Quackity than himself, he knew that for a fact. There had to be something he was missing here, right?
All at once, Sam fell silent. The screaming, kicking, everything stopped. Everything but his crying; Skeppy could feel his sleeve growing wet with tears. Maybe this was a good sign. Maybe Sapnap had spit him out, maybe it was all a prank, a joke, anything. Sapnap was raised by him and Bad, after all. He’d seen his fair share of trolling from his fathers. Sapnap couldn’t do this, he and Bad hadn’t raised a monster. This wasn’t happening. Everything was ok.
As he looked up, the sight ahead of him said otherwise.
Sapnap had his head tilted up, one hand lightly pressed on something- no, someone in his throat, while the other was holding something just outside his mouth; a tail. Quackity’s tail. Quackity was moving under the pressure; squirming, thrashing even, under Sapnap’s skin, yet the expression on his son’s face read nothing but bliss. Skeppy could even swear he saw drool seeping out of the corners of his smile. He couldn’t watch this. He couldn’t stay here and stand to see the boy he had raised, had loved his entire life, kill someone that Skeppy had thought he’d watched him grow to love. But he couldn’t move. He stood frozen, tears welling in his eyes and his body cold from fear with Sam limp and silently sobbing in his arms. Sam, poor Sam, who sat here watching his son be eaten alive not only by his previous future son-in-law, by his own best friends’ son. Bad, who’d been so silent that Skeppy had nearly forgotten he was here, barely seemed to be breathing. His only signs of life were the tears pouring down his face and the violent shaking that wracked his entire frame. He looked so scared Skeppy was surprised he was still standing.
The three of them watched in silent horror as finally, after what felt like hours, Sapnap let go of Quackity’s tail. They watched his form fall farther and farther down Sapnap’s throat little by little until finally his struggles had disappeared beneath his lover’s collar bones, sealing his fate. Sapnap dropped his head and sighed, the blissful, at peace expression he wore making Skeppy sick. He watched Sapnap seemingly subconsciously trace a line down his torso, no doubt following where Quackity was within his body, until he finally placed a palm on his stomach. And if there was any doubt (which at this point could only be chalked up to wishful thinking) as to what fate Quackity had truly met, it had all been dispelled as the three heard horrible, violent gurgling sounds coming from Sapnap’s stomach. Sapnap covered his whole midsection with his arm, face tinged pink in apparent embarrassment as he whipped his head side to side to make sure no one was around. Luckily for the three of them, he still didn’t think to look up. He blinked a few times before looking down at where his arm laid for a few seconds and subsequently sighing, rolling his eyes (which Skeppy belatedly realized were back to normal instead of the horrifying all consuming black). He began rubbing his stomach as a few more gurgles were heard and he pulled a little thin black box from his apron, tapping it a few times before holding it to his ear.
A few seconds of silence later, Sapnap was speaking. “Hey, Dream! Did Punz tell you I was sick? He said he was going off to find you like 10 minutes ago.” More silence. “Yeah, yeah, I’m fine now. I think I just needed something to eat, if you know what I mean.” Skeppy’s heart skipped a beat hearing Sapnap so nonchalantly refer to his own species, to someone he loved, as food. “I’m just gonna go on break now if that’s ok. Could you meet me by the security office? I need you to help me, uh…get rid of something.” Another break. “Ok, sounds good, I’ll meet you then. Bye.” He said, tapping the black box again before slipping it back into a pocket and moving to leave the aisle. At that, Skeppy decided it was far past time to go. He went to grab Bad before realizing that he was fully unconscious, likely having passed out from fear. Sam, on the other hand, lay sobbing. Skeppy could do nothing but try to drag him to away, but ultimately failed. “Sam,” Skeppy whispered, voice cracking through tears and shivering, “We…we have to go.” “I failed.” he responded, not bothering to whisper since Sapnap was gone. “I failed as a father. I couldn’t save him. I- I couldn’t save them. Either of them.” He chocked out, tears pouring harder. Skeppy stood shocked; Sam rarely mentioned his other son anymore. It’d been so, so long since he’s been around that Skeppy (as much as it pained him to admit it to himself) had almost forgotten he existed completely. And didn’t that just make this all the more sad; Sam didn’t deserve to lose another kid. He didn’t deserve to have these old scars ripped back open again. “You couldn’t have known.” Skeppy said, sitting down beside him. “There’s nothing you could’ve done. I…I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry, Sam.”
Skeppy wasn’t sure why he felt the need to apologize, but in some way, this felt like his fault. Sapnap was his son. What had he done wrong? How long had Sapnap been planning to do this? What would Karl say if he saw this? Is Karl even still alive, or did Sapnap get to him first? How were they gonna tell Tina that her younger brother got killed by his fiancé, of all people?
Skeppy was only snapped out of it when a hand rested on his own, and he turned to see Sam looking at him. His tear-stained expression held no anger, no contempt for the man who had raised the person to have just killed his son, just…pity and sadness. Sam didn’t hate him. Sam felt…sorry for him. Sorry that his son had turned out like this after so many years being away from home. Sorry that the boy who they’d both loved growing up was gone, twisted into a psychopath and cannibal. In a way, they’d both lost their kids today. Skeppy couldn’t do anything but break down, clinging to Sam and sobbing as he finally processed everything that he’d seen today. Sam just hugged back tightly, like Skeppy was his only lifeline, and sobbed with him.
“We should get going.” Sam sighed after what felt like hours. “We need to help Bad, and I’m sure the others are wondering why we’re not back yet.” Skeppy, still numb, just nodded and helped sling one of Bad’s unconscious arms over his shoulder while Sam took another. The walk back to where they had come from was silent, neither of them willing to bring up the fact that they hadn’t actually retrieved any supplies and the whole trip was kinda pointless, but were met with a sight that neither had been expecting.
The doors were tied shut with chains. They couldn’t get out.
They were stuck there till morning.
~~~~~
Sapnap sat in the break room fiddling with his phone when he saw Dream come in, twirling a set of keys on his finger. “You said you needed access to the security room?” “‘Bout time.” Sapnap responded sarcastically, standing up off the beanbag chair with a hand over his stomach to keep the extra weight in his gut from swaying as he moved. Seriously, no matter how many times or how often he’d done this, he was never going to get used to it, was he? “Sorry I needed to lock up the store, asshole.” Dream replied, leading him out of the room to the security office down the hall. “Ranboo is staying at my place tonight so Tom and Tubbo aren’t alone, so I had to lock up from inside today cause someone invited me to stay the night to work on parkour stuff.” “Don’t pin this on me, I’m being nice to you for once.” Sapnap replied, lightly elbowing Dream as he tried to unlock the door and messing him up. Dream flipped him off without even moving his vision away from the lock before getting back to work. “Are you at the security office yet?” Quackity asked, startling Sapnap which in turn startled Dream, who gave him an odd look. Sapnap just pointed to his stomach and Dream rolled his eyes and went back to work on the lock.
“Yeah, we are. Holy shit, dude, you scared the fuck outta me, I thought you were asleep. You haven’t said anything like this entire time.” “I couldn’t fall asleep. Something…something happened, man.” “…Well that doesn’t sound ominous at all. What kinda something? Something bad?? Are you ok, did I do something?” “I’m fine!” Quackity quickly responded, picking up on his fiancé’s nervous tone. “It’s just…well I don’t know yet. You’ll be able to see for yourself on the video camera. I don’t want to freak you out if it’s nothing.” Sapnap went to ask what that meant before Dream finally managed to open the door with a little cheer of celebration. He ushered Sapnap in as he started to log into the camera’s system.
“Ok, so can you tell me what happened?” Dream questioned. “It’s been a while since I did the instinct thing, so I guess I looked kinda sickly, so Punz ran to get you. After that I started to feel nauseous and sat down and passed out. When I woke up again, Quackity was in here and I felt a lot better. I think my instincts just fully took over so I wasn’t conscious, like, at all. I figured I would see what exactly happened and then delete the footage so no one else could see me lose it.” Dream nodded. “Yeah, I figured that’s what you meant by ‘needed something to eat.’ Kinda also figured that instincts had something to do with why Punz said you looked sick, so I asked Quackity to go and look for you.” Sapnap vaguely heard Quackity confirm what Dream had said. “Oh, thanks dude.” “No problem. Now, where and when was this again?”
Sapnap gave a few more specifications on what had happened, and at this point he could feel Quackity nervously pacing in his gut, which felt…weird, to say the least. “Quackity, dude, are you ok? You never move this much in there, it’s kinda freaking me out. And it feels weird.” “Sorry.” He heard as he felt Quackity drop back down to sit, almost immediately starting to tap his foot. “You’re nervous about something.” “No I’m-“ “You’re sitting with your eye sockets pressed into your knees while tapping your foot. I’ve known you my entire life, I don’t need to be able to see you to know what you’re doing. You only do that when you’re really anxious, what’s up?” “Like I said, you’ll see on the video.” Sapnap was about to respond again, but was agin cut off by Dream. “Found it! Oh shit, yeah, you look really out of it, I’m surprised you made it as long as y- what the fuck is that??” That bit caught Sapnap’s attention. He moved closer to the tv and noticed what Dream was questioning: on the grainy monitor, there were 3 small silhouettes on top of an aisle in front of Sapnap. “Are those…borrowers?” Dream asked, looking over to Sapnap. “They have to be. What the hell are more borrowers doing in the store? Q, is this what you were worried about?” “…Mostly.” Quackity responded, and Sapnap nodded to Dream so he could follow along. “…fast forward, see if you can tell when they leave.” Sapnap relayed the request to Dream, who did as he asked.
“Oh no…” Sapnap whispered. “What?” Dream asked, but Quackity was apparently more than aware of the issue. “They didn’t listen, did they? They didn’t go when I told them too?” “No, no they didn’t…” Sapnap whispered again, in shock. He felt Quackity stand and start to pace again, but this time couldn’t care to correct it. “What? Who didn’t what?” Dream asked. “The borrowers on the aisle. Quackity was signaling for them to leave so they wouldn’t see me do..that, but they didn’t. They’re seeing everything.” Sapnap gestured back up to the screen, where at this point he could see Quackity entering his throat and the borrowers backing up, one even kicking and fighting another to do something. “Well…thats not good, but it can’t be that bad, right? I mean, what are the odds you’ll ever see them again? I mean, sure they can tell a colony about a human that ate a borrower, but you guys have always kinda been under the impression we did that anyway, right? At the absolute worst, they’ll have another horror story to get kids to bed on time.” “Dream, I just traumatized 3 random borrowers for life.” “I was under the impression you were all just kinda traumatized from shit in general, is this really that much worse?” “Sapnap, tell him to shut up.” Quackity interrupted. Sapnap obliged by smacking a hand over Dream’s mouth and putting a finger over his own lips. “…I need you to let me out.” Sapnap looked confused for a moment. Quackity had only been in there for a few hours; normally when this happened he would just stay the night since it was more of a hassle to get dry and clean just to put on pjs. Something was wrong, still, Sapnap would never hold the man he loved against his will.
Sapnap quickly brought him up, placing a hand under his mouth as Quackity climbed out. Quackity’s head snapped immediately to the security footage. At this point, Sapnap could see himself finally swallow Quackity down, and the 3 borrowers react accordingly with varying levels or fear and distress. One of them even went unconscious. Quackity watched with a look of worry that made Sapnap anxious; in all the years he’d known Quackity, he’d never seen him like this. Why was he this worried? He barely registered that in the video he had regained control, only focused on what could have caused the fear in his fiancé’s eyes.
Until one of the borrowers turned enough for their face to be seen in the camera.
That…that was his dad. That was Skeppy, holding onto someone who had to be Sam. His other dad was taller than that. That means that the last one, the borrower who’d passed out when Sapnap had swallowed Quackity was…
Sapnap felt his breath speed up. He quickly set Quackity down on the desk as he clutched a hand to his chest and his vision started to blur. “Sap?” Dream questioned, hands hovering around him in concern, “Sapnap are you ok??” “That’s…Those are…” He couldn’t get the words out. Fuck. No, fuck, god no, this wasn’t how this was supposed to go, they weren’t supposed to know, they weren’t supposed to ever see him again but now they knew everything.
They knew he was a monster.
“…those are our dads.” Quackity whispered, barely audible as dreams eyes widened. “The one crying is my dad, the other two are Sapnap’s.”
I don't post art too often but here I go!! :D
Based on a fic idea I've had for the longest time; "Dream is an emotion-based sizeshifter who shifts larger when angry/scared and smaller when exhilarated/content but keeps that part a secret. Punz is the only one who knows, only one who can see Dreams face, only one who's keen on making Dream feel loved and content."
So basically shameless Drunz content but left somewhat vague! Inspired by the lovely artists that bless my everyday Tumblr feed! 💜
Tumblr media
For anyone who likes audio w these, this is about what Dream can hear: https://youtu.be/kRwVQCDVwp0 (best with headphones)
(am NOT a human artist sksksksk can you tell yet??? The stomachs so much fun tho, up there with the most fun things to draw!)
The Decimate of Human's
Please tell me if I need to put an TW's
—————
Sapnap and George skidded across the floors as they raced to the kitchen, Sapnap collided with George as he reached out to open the kitchen cabinet. Sapnap gave an annoyed huff as his eyes gazed around the empty cabinet, George peered from behind the shorter male. Both groaned in annoyance as they slammed the cabinet shut.
George and Sapnap went to the living room and flopped down the couch, As if it was planned Dream came back home. The blond male closed the door as he held multiple bags filled with edible items, The two boys who were once on the couch immediately jumped and snatched a few bags from the taller male.
"Guy's be careful I just bought those!" Dream remarked as he quickly went away from the two other boys, Both brunettes let out a sound of victory as they found their wanted snacks.
"Hey Dream is it crowded out?" George said as he munched on raisin cookies, "Not really." Dream nonchalantly replied as he carefully placed the items he bought in the cabinets, As the three boys chatted happily. They suddenly heard loud alarms blaring, Sapnap and Dream knew it was the alarm signaling lock down.
All the boys were on the verge of panic as they scrambled to lock the doors and secure their house, George was still quite confused and peeked outside the window. The brunette gasped at the sight of multiple people. No-...Giants?
George stared as citizens ran around as the gigantic humans were attempting to step on them. George could feel he was going to hurl at the sight and backed away. Dream and Sapnap have yet to see the commotion outside and were confused when George was panicked and had sweat dripping down his forehead.
"George- Dude you alright?" Sapnap spoke as he stared with a concerned look, "T-Ther-..." George stuttered as he spoke "T-There's...Giants-..." Sapnap and Dream were still befuddled with George's actions, Sapnap took a peep at the window and saw ruin. The streets were trashed and loud noises were heard from the outside—maybe they would have heard if Dream didn't have a sound proof house—Faint screams and crashes could be heard from the outside.
As time passed with the three boys sitting in the living room waiting for further news, George and Sapnap were both shaken up Dream didn't bother to check outside. Although his curiosity wouldn't last long as Sapnap and George each share what they saw.
Hours passed...Not a single announcement came from the news, They all felt nervous yet none of them dared to peek outside again. From George's explanation of apparent giant's they were anxious if the 'giants' spotted them.
It was starting to get nerve wracking, They all thought about doing something productive.
George groaned at the idea and would rather stay on the couch, Sapnap and Dream both scoffed as they went to do other stuff.
Dream went to check on their water supply incase the water got cut, Whilst Sapnap went to see how long the food will last if it was rationed.
The TV suddenly switched to the news and all the boys heard it as they immediately jumped to check.
"Dear Citizens, Please stay in your houses. Humans are instantaneously turning into these gigantic beasts researchers have yet to find what has been causing this, Although apparently some still keep their human minds and gain thr ability to shift their sizes. Traffickers are using this to their advantages if they do get the ability. It could potentially be a sickness, Although whatever it is the symptoms are the following..." All of them were attentive and practically glued their eyes to the screen.
"Dizziness."
"Passing out at random times."
"Lost cravings for food."
"Random attacks."
"Itchy skin."
"Fevers that apparently come and go."
"Increase tiredness."
"These symptoms come very slowly for shifters as found out recently..."
They all took a deep sigh of relief, The news reporter continued.
"Please make sure the supplies you have will last 60 days, In 60 days the military will do a scout in the neighborhoods. If you live in the cities make sure you have food for 70 days. Then the military will do a scout then...We will inform you as soon as possible." After said the screen disconnected and the boys released a breath they didn't even know were holding.
There was silence. It was obvious they were in thought, "Well..." Sapnap spoke as he looked up at the two other males. "Atleast if we ration the food it'll last Atleast 75 days. But we should be fine since we're in a neighborhood"
"Luckily we got the timing right to buy groceries." George said as he gave a breathy laugh, "You mean I got the timing. You guys didn't even know I was going to get groceries!" Dream chuckled as he nudged George on the shoulder.
"Yea, yea whatever." George responded as he got up from the couch. Dream saw the light slowly dissappear from the outside of the window, "It's getting late-" Drean said as he took a peek just to make sure, "Cmon let's head to bed."
———
Dream groaned as he woke up from his bed, His head pounded as if he was drunk the entire night. He brushed it off as a result from stress, The blond peeked outside seeing as the skies were dark and it was foggy, Even with the fog he could tell it was destroyed and it looked horrible.
Dream slowly left his room as he heard chatter downstairs, Dream walked down the stairs as he instantly got greeted. "Hey sleepy head." Sapnap sneered as George stayed silent yet gave a cheery smile his way.
"Sorry I must've been stressed-" Dream muttered but luckily loud enough for the others to hear, "Anywa-" George was cut off by the ground softly shaking. Sapnap scrambled to check at the window as both Dream and George were frozen still—Dream was frozen due to him still being tired and George was terrified.
Sapnap saw one of the 'beasts' rummaging around the house that fell into ruin. It didn't even look human...It had torn clothes, sharp nail, and incredibly deadly canines.
It looked alarming as it pushed down the remaining standing walls of the house. Sapnap scrunched his face at the terrifying ease the giant creature took to do so.
"It's one of those giant things-" Sapnap whispered to the two males who were now suddenly beside him, "We should get away from the window and turn off the lights, We can't risk for it to see us." Dream ordered as he walked to the light switch quickly flicking it to turn it off.
They all sat up against a wall as the house now looked as if it was abandoned, The outside was trashed and the plants were dead. The air was still and all that the males could hear was the faint shuffling outside across the streets.
Soon the shuffling noises came to a brief stop, Then the soft pitter patter of the rain could be heard as it came in contact with the window. Dream stood up which confused the brunettes.
"I'll cook, Luckily we still have electricity it should last for a bit..." Dream grumbled as he went to the kitchen and turned on the light again, Dream took some eggs and started to fry them.
———
Dream's head throbbed in pain as his face was in the duvets of his bed. The whole day it was raining, They expected a thunderstorm tonight which should be fine. The house was pretty stable a storm shouldn't be a problem. I mean, It was Florida after all.
Dream was almost in tears he attempted to fall asleep which wasn't as hard as he anticipated.
"George give me back those Lay's!" Sapnap screamed although quiet enough to not alert the blond upstairs, "Not until you tell me where you hid my cookies!" George remarked. Sapnap took umbrage at his remarks.
"Fine it's over there-" Sapnap pointed at a place near the shoes as he caught his chips while George ran to reclaim his cookies, They were eating happily until they suddenly heard a loud crash upstairs. Wanting to know what it was, they gathered the courage and willed themselves to go upstairs and investigate what it was.
They crept upstairs, Sapnap leading first. They both knew Dream was upstairs yet he didn't say what he was doing, They entered the room which was at the end of the long hallway.
Dream was sitting on the floor with a scratch on his forehead which confused the brunettes. "Yo man are you okay-?" Sapnap uttered as he went nearer the blond "Why-...." Dream groaned before he continued, "Why does the door frame seem lower-" Dream let out a exasperated sigh.
George came up and both boys helped the blond stand up. Both brunettes gasped once the blond stood upright, Their friend was now way taller than they recalled, George gulped as he backed away a bit while Sapnap scrunched his face.
"Dream..." Sapnap managed to huff out, "What have you been feeling lately..." The stern look Sapnap gave made Dream suddenly realized the height difference. "Wha-...I don't know I've just been light headed recently." Dream's eyes widened at the grave realization. Both brunettes were already quite terrified.
The taller male stumbled back as he panicked, "B-But how!?" Dream retorted as he kept his gaze on the ground, Too ashamed to face his friends. "Look dude-...I don't know but you were outside before the outbreak happened." Sapnap stated.
"W-We should leave you alone, right now." Sapnap stuttered as he backed away to leave the room but came to an abrupt stop as he bumped into something behind him, "Sap we can't leave him like this!" George exclaimed.
"Look, George I don't want to but what other choice do we have?" Sapnap argued.
The two shorter males argued. Dream was so focused at his friends arguing he didn't realized he shrunk to his former height. Dream stood up to break apart the two before they mauled eachother.
"Stop!" Dream said as he bared his teeth, Glaring at the two boys he finally realized he was like his original height—Not like he could extremely tell, Dream couldn't look at someone and tell how tall they are—"Dude your a shifter-" Both brunettes spoke in unison as Dream cocked his eyebrow.
"Didn't they say shifters recieve the symptoms slower?" George intervened. "Atleast we have time to think before I well-..." Dream muttered as he recalled the symptoms. "Yea-..." George huffed as he lowered his head.
"L-Look I don't want to hurt you guys so I'll just stay in my room." Dream declared as he started to carefully escort his friends out of his room, "Wait-" Sapnap spoke but before he could continue the door was slammed shut. They heard a click signaling it was locked.
"Fine we'll bring you food later-..."
Dream sobbed as he fell to the floor, He let out strangled breaths and his heart ached. Whilst the two boys who were now downstairs, Worried about their friend. "Sapnap..." George turned hid head to look at the shorter, "What should we do...?" George had tears pricking his eyes.
"I don't know George..."
"I don't know..."
Secrets, what a fucking stupid thing. They were so difficult to hide from his clueless family, and just a bitch to try and regulate on the daily.
Well, he supposes that secrets have no part in his inability to control his size shifting abilities, but his point still stands nonetheless.
He’s been with this family for about ten years now, and not a word about his powers-slash-curse have left him, but he’s fairly certain that he was just hit with a decade-lasting streak of pure luck, because everyone who personally knows him, and even those who’re mere acquaintances to him will mention this one thing: lying never goes well for him.
Something will come along to fuck it up, surely.
And it did, it just took significantly longer than he thought it would.
The reasoning behind this sudden reveal was actually incredibly stupid, and he was a fucking idiot for letting it happen. The Morning Topic was usually something Tommy looked forward to, he really enjoyed mindlessly rambling to a family member about his interest—or occasionally his disinterest—in a specific topic. But, this morning, as he approached a kitchen full of his brothers and heard Wilbur say something incredibly concerning, he felt a particular dread fall upon him. He hasn’t felt that in a long, long time.
“What do you think of those sizeshifting fucks?” Wilbur asks, mouth full of his breakfast. Tommy makes a face, until he registers exactly what the brunet had said.
Tommy’s eyes widen—a thing he’d thought he got under control, apparently not. He could feel his insides churning. In the end, he feels positively sick, and he’s bluntly aware that there’s been a shift in his height. Mentally crossing his fingers, Tommy hopes to Prime that no one sees the sudden change in his usual bubbly attitude. He straightens up a bit, composing himself. He keeps his eyes away from everyone, studying the floor that’s become much more interesting to him than it was a moment ago.
“Mornin’,” Techno mumbles to him when Tommy accidentally bumps into him on his way to the fridge. Tommy startles, nearly stumbling over his two feet. His brother rose a brow at him, underlying amusement shining around his expression. “Good morning!” Tommy chirps far too nervously. Fuck, this is difficult. His chest tightens, and he checks just for a moment to see if he’s standing where he typically would at his normal height. It could use some work, but it was a relief to know that it wasn’t nearly as bad as he thought it was. He smiles awkwardly and returns to the fridge.
Wilbur clears his throat, the attention-hungry bastard turning all eyes back to him. Techno catches on, and Tommy is practically trembling at the thought of Techno’s response. While he knew that there was still wiggle-room for interpretation in Wil’s question, the harshness he’d immediately picked up on was nothing but another worry to his hassled mind. And for a self-proclaimed “anarchist” such as Techno, he could only wonder what his standpoint on “outcasts” such as Tommy himself was.
He actually hopes it’d stay in his wonders—he really doesn’t want unnecessary closure.
“They’re alright,” Techno mumbled.
Tommy takes a subtle, deep inhale of breath and holds it for as long as possible, just to avoid the constant rise and fall of his chest, because, yes,  he can keep his face calm, but even then, hyperventilating would be a dead give away. He buries his face in the fridge, enjoying the fact that he was completely hidden. He moved around the contents before finding a familiar pitcher. While experimenting with certain drinks, he’d accidentally created something completely new and absolutely delicious. No other person likes it, not even Tubbo.
More for him, he supposes.
“What about you, Tommy?” Wilbur asks, and his voice sounds unusually loud. Tommy shuts the fridge door and keeps his back facing Wilbur and Techno. His thoughts spiral, a million things running around at once, and he finds it terribly hard to hold his breath for much longer. He exhales as quietly as possible. “I don’t know what that is, so,” he says quietly. Taking a glass from the cabinet, Tommy wonders what it’d be like to simply leave, to just start a life at a better size, preferably a small one, something simple and easy. Hiding from humans, how hard can it be, really? He’s done it for at least fifteen years, what’s the rest of his life?
“You don’t know what a sizeshifter is?” Techno asks, and Tommy can feel the man’s maroon eyes boring into the back of his head. He pours the drink and returns its spot in the fridge quickly. “No,” he lies, taking a sip. The taste floods his senses and calms him so quickly, it’s like fucking magic.
Finally, he gathers the strength to face his brothers. As suspected, the two of them are looking at him like he’s said something incredibly shocking or offensive.
“…What?” he accuses the two of them, downing the rest of his drink. “They’re basically,” Wilbur pauses to think, but Techno intervenes— “It’s in the name, just put two and two together, Wilbur doesn’t need to explain it to you.”
Tommy scoffs at the man, some family he is. “They…size…shift?” he “guesses”, faking his intrigue when Wilbur and Techno nod in unison at him.
“Okay…” he trails off, growing increasingly more awkward by the second.
“Well, then, do you think about them? Do you think they’re a part of society, or should they be rejected?” Wilbur asks.
The question is so stupid, the correct answer is painfully obvious, how can neither of them see this? Internally, Tommy groans. He screams. He hates The Morning Topic today.
He swallows, biting down the bile that has been steadily rising in his throat. I–I don’t know, that’s a bit harsh, innit? Rejecting them–?”
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
There’s no doubt about the fact that he’s shrunk at least a few inches. It’s no matter…he’s still taller than Techno, which is the big thing he’s trying to keep steady. Because as soon as he drops to even eye-level, he’s royally fucked.
“Are you alright, Tommy?” Wilbur asks, discarding the topic. His shoulders slump in relief. His pulse is still going at a fierce pace and he still feels that back-of-mind panic. He nods easily, despite not being alright. His own brothers are dissing his kind right in front of him. He hates to say that it makes him feel a little upset, and most definitely un-fucking-comfortable.
There’s a hand on his shoulder, he feels himself lose an inch, or perhaps gain one at the sudden scare. He startles again. “Tommy, why're you all jumpy?” Techno questions, Tommy nearly whimpers. He shouldn't be acting like this, why now is he not able to control himself? He has to leave—leave, leave, leave.
“Big test coming up today! See you, dear family!” he hurries to leave, cringing at his terrible excuse. He’ll have to work on that, there's no doubt about the fact that he’s already raised suspicion. Prime, he’s so stupid! How come he made it through the most immature years of his life without a spillage, but the moment he turns a respectable age, all hell breaks loose?
Thankfully, he’s out the door before any of his siblings chase after him. He huffs, his breath coming out a puff of smoke. He shivers, perhaps shrinking a little bit. Tommy’s not sure how tall he is, but as far as he’s aware, if he’s shorter than Ranboo and taller than Tubbo, he’ll be able to get away with his normal level of excuses.
About mid-way to school, it became apparent to Tommy that he had forgotten a lot of things. He’s got his backpack, but he can't recall what he’d taken out and what he’d put back in. And he’s regrettably left his phone sitting on his nightstand, still plugged in. His lunch and wallet have been left somewhere in the house, and he’s really starting to get cold with his thin hoodie.
He swallows, using what little control he has to grow just a bit more, hoping that with a larger form he’ll drop his trip down a good ten minutes.
And it does. Well, he doesn't really know if it does or not, because his fucking phone is having the time of its life in his bedroom.
Tommy murmurs to himself as he walks across the frosty grass. It crunches under his footsteps, which he remembers are far too thick—he shifts back down to a reasonable height.
“Tommy!” Tubbo calls him. Tommy’s eyes drift around until he finds the ridiculously short boy, standing next to ridiculously tall Ranboo. He lights up at Tubbo, but not so much at Ranboo. He likes him fine, don't get him wrong, but sometimes a new member to a life-long duo can be a difficult adjustment. Forgive him for being a bit cautious.
“Big T! Big R!” he greeted, his nervous mind already beginning to settle down. He finds himself so at ease with his friends, Ranboo included.
The three of them follow each other into school, chatting a very normal, non-size-shifter-related conversation.
**
So he's panicky again. It's his last period: art. Not particularly bad but not necessarily good, either. It's just kind of…there. And so he takes the time to space out and run through everything that could go wrong when he heads home. Wilbur confronts him, Techno studies him, which is arguably worse because he can never know what Techno’s thinking. Phil will undoubtedly notice the unresolved tension between the three siblings, and worst of all, Tommy’s probably going to crack under three prying full-grown men. It’s his life’s biggest secret against the three people he’s finally felt at home with. Fuck, what has his life come to?
Tommy taps his pen on his paper. His teacher silently glared at him and he suddenly stopped, flushing a faint pink before returning to his actual, life-changing problem. After a short while of staring out into his terribly detailed thoughts, he was being dragged out of them by Ranboo’s hand pressing against him. It squeezed his shoulder gently, and Tommy zoned back in. He watched with concern as he saw his class shuffle around to get ready to leave. His eyes widened, since when had class ended? Had he been so wrapped up in horror that he’d completely missed one of the loudest things the school can offer? He’s really screwed, isn’t he?
“Hey, Tommy, are you good, man?” Ranboo questioned him. The tall boy took a few steps ahead and took a seat in the chair that sat next to him. Tommy reluctantly looked at Ranboo, who in return squinted their eyes to signify his attempt of a smile. The mask kind of ruined the effort, though, and it made the gesture look more threatening than they’d probably intended.
Tommy swallowed and nodded. He was lucky he was sitting or else his shift would have definitely been noticeable. He’d dropped a good few inches by now, purely from stress and guilt. The thing is: Tommy knows that his family probably wouldn’t give a damn if he opened up and said what he was. He thinks they’d embrace him in any way, he’d been with them long enough to understand how each of their minds would work. If anything, the worst that would happen is he’d be teased about it and constantly bothered whenever a family member needed help. That’s….it.
So why is he so god damn nervous? It’s not even like they’re onto him that hard, he can easily use the excuse that he was having a bit of a morning and leave this whole crisis behind in the dust.
“Tommy,” Ranboo clapped, bringing him back successfully for the second time. Tommy bit his lower lip and looked at Ranboo, embarrassed. “Sorry,” he murmured.
“Are you okay?” Ranboo asked again, and Tommy did no different and nodded, “All good, big man! Now go home, no one needs to spend any extra time in this hellhole,” he reassures and snickers at the reaction from his teacher, who’s been watching the two of them with a certain irritation that turns it amusing. Ranboo’s eyes shine with uncertainty but the brunet stands all the same. Tommy follows suit and finds himself trailing after the man, almost cowering behind him. He’s really not ready to go home.
After Ranboo and Tubbo had bid their goodbye to Tommy and the three of them had gone their respective ways, Tommy was an anxious mess. He was dropping inch after inch until he was barely the size of a hand, a size he’d rarely found himself at involuntarily. He was so good at maintaining his size, why now must he fuck it up? He sniffled and paused his journey through his neighborhood so he could collect himself. Tears were, for some reason, streaming down his face. With the speed he could muster at a size like his current one, he leaned against a potted plant placed by the porch of one of their neighboring houses. He drew down the pottery, curling in on himself by drawing his knees up to his chest and burying his face in his lap.
By the time he managed to control himself and stop fucking sobbing for a second, he drew his head up. The sunlight played with his eyes, and the tears clouded his vision. He sniffled, wiping his nose with his sleeve. He’ll have to be late, there’s no way he can sneak inside without his family noticing. Tommy sighs and pulls himself together well enough to stand. With weak limbs—or at least his brain is convincing him they are, he doesn’t really know if anything is wrong—he tried to focus on sizing back up. But, before he could do so, Tommy thankfully caught sight of his brother. He flinched so hard he thought he may just regain his six feet right then and there. However right now growing was the thing he didn’t want, so he scrambled behind the orange pot before he got noticeably large. Shit, shit, shit. He hid, nails grasping at the grass helplessly with nails digging into the dirt. He pushed his body up against the side of their neighbors house and held that position for a long while, his free hand clasped tightly over his mouth to rid of all of his stupid fucking heavy breathing.
Tommy waited for what must’ve been ten minutes before he let his body lose its tension. It felt like heaven to release his muscles and he slumped against the pot gleefully. He sat there for a moment and sat patiently with his thoughts.
He doesn’t know how much time has passed, but he thinks he should probably get up. And he does. Tommy’s shoes slide in the damp grass as he shuffles up, brushing off the grass sticking to his legs and hands. There’s residue of dirt that remains, but he doesn’t pay much mind to it.
Tommy calmed himself and focused on his actual height. He felt the surroundings shift and when he opened his eyes, he was surprised to find that he was exactly where he needed to be. Or, at least, it was a familiar height to be at. And with that, he quickly got off of their neighbor’s lawn and continued on the sidewalk, rubbing at his eyes uncomfortably. Tommy really hopes that he sat long enough for it to fade away.
It takes twenty three seconds to get onto their porch. He counted it, because it was the only thing that stopped his thoughts and took away the jelly-like feeling in his legs. He hates himself for continuing, because he knows that at least Wilbur is home. And Wilbur is not the one he wants to see.
He opens the unlocked door and walks in, slipping his shoes off as quickly as he can. He pushes them in the corner and awkwardly maneuvers the door shut. Finally, he is home. His hands are shaking and everything is screaming no and he’s fairly certain he’s dropped three inches but he’s home. Much to his dismay, Wilbur is nowhere in sight. He scans around the ground floor, and carefully steps around the house to avoid giving anything away. Slowly, Tommy makes his way to the stairs and creeps up them, cringing at the loud whine that echoes around the space. Fuck. He quickened his pace and raced up the stairs, nearly stumbling over himself on the way down the hall. He slips into his room and closes the door as gently as possible. God fucking damn it.
Now alone, Tommy lets himself slip further and further down the door until he’s at a comfortably small height. He places a hand over his heart to slow his breathing as he pads to under his bed. While sizeshifting can be a bitch to manage and one of the worst aspects of his life, he’s still managed to adapt to it. A perk of being able to be so small is he’s able to hide everything. If he has something he doesn’t want anyone to see, he shrinks it. So, naturally, he had to make a hideout under his bed—it just felt right.
He made it a few years ago, after he’d become really good at managing his shifting, and he’s used it everyday since. It was comfortable, hidden, and best of all just fucking amazing.
Tommy knew he should probably be more careful considering that it may be a bit difficult to back up in the events where a family member is looking for him at that exact moment, but…still.
He fell face-first onto a pillow, tiredly grabbing at the pillowcase so he could pull himself onto it more. The pillow took up most of the room, then he’d shrunken a mini-fridge—which had struck a rather interesting conversation with his father after he’d noticed it was missing—and next to that was a little desk he got from Tubbo, who’d claimed he found it laying around in his room, but Tommy’s well aware of the fact that Tubbo took it from his sisters’ dollhouse. That sums up the room. It wasn’t the best and was overdue for a remodel any moment now, yet for some reason he put it off every time.
Tommy shifted around on the pillow, sizing down just a bit more so he could sink into the feathers. He wished he could be this comfortable around his family, he really fucking does.
But then again, Wilbur had unintentionally told him everything he needed to know.
Tommy sighs and tries to move past those thoughts so he can fall asleep.
However, speak of the devil, Wilbur knocks on his door. He startles, tumbling off of the pillow and onto his bedroom floor. He scrambled to his feet and instantly paused when the two of them locked eyes. Shit. He hurries to shut off the fairy lights that circled his hideout and then cowered away in the shadows, tiny hands cautiously wrapping the bottom of his nightstand. They stared at each other, or at least Wilbur stared at whatever he was seeing, that being Tommy or simply his hands. He watches as Wilbur’s face shifts to a million different expressions before it settles into an irritated—curious, but mainly irritated—one.
Shit.
“Tommy?” Wilbur asks, his voice sounding entirely too forced. Tommy didn’t respond, and just ever-so-slowly slid his body to where it was fully submerged into the shadows. He slumped against the wooden bedside table and held his breath, hands digging into the skin on his legs. He squeezes his eyes shut when he hears Wilbur approach him with gentle footsteps. Tommy doesn’t even know if he’s pretending to be friendly, because he’s never interacted with anyone when he’s an abnormal height. His mind tells him that Wilbur is faking it and Tommy scoots away from the very edge, deeper and deeper into the void. He opened his eyes and released his breath after his lungs began to scream at him. He stared into the gray-black abyss and silently pleaded to the shadows to eat him whole. He knows he’d much rather prefer that over whatever Wilbur was about to do.
“Tommy,” his brother’s voice called out again. He was so, so fucking close to Tommy. Wilbur’s slow breaths echo tenfold in his head. Still, he doesn’t reply.
He silently waits for Wilbur to do something. To say something, to grab him, to kill him, anything. There’s a million possible endings circling his thoughts right now. But before any of them can happen, Tommy’s door is opening and Wilbur’s attention on the tiny has been split right down the middle. From the corner of his vision, he watches as Wilbur stands up. Now all he has to do is hope to Prime that Wilbur doesn’t snitch on him just yet.
“Oh, Wilbur–is Tommy home yet, mate?” Phil asks.
He shuffled to watch their conversation. He kneels, tiny hands wrapping the bottom of his nightstand again. He watches as Wilbur looks momentarily at him, glaring his brown eyes right through Tommy’s skull. He shudders.
“I don’t know,” Wilbur says after turning his head back.
Don’t forget to mention that...
Well I never expected this to be the first finished bit of writing I posted here. I promise I’m still writing that other one I’ve hinted at, I just want it to be perfect!! I actually wrote this back in August and was re-reading it and thought: huh its not bad so edited it a bit and here we are. (this is literally the 2nd fanfic I’ve ever written as well as g/t piece and I haven’t even finished the first so please be kind qwq)  This was inspired by an artwork that @dingbatnix created! Original post here  I hope you like it ❤️
cw: mcyt g/t, soft, slight panic, mention of death man I hope that’s right
word count:  2375 Disclaimer! This story is based on the characters of the Dream SMP and not the real life content creators. Anything that occurs in this story is purely fiction and should be treated as such. Thank you.
“A nap in the sun would be nice right about now.” George said as he made his way to the top of a big red toadstool. Winter was fast approaching and the time for napping in the sun would soon be over while the cold months of snow and ice overtake the world. George didn’t mind the thought of snow though. I mean, when you’re 2 inches tall, snow isn’t exactly your friend when even a light powder can have you buried and frozen alive. It was going to be tougher to find food and shelter soon too. Part of him wishes he hadn’t left the colony; that he had stayed with his own kind rather than travel the vast world. But he had lost his parents long ago and had never made any real friends back home, so what real attachment did he have in staying? So George had instead chosen a life of adventure. He’d been wandering the forest and plains for a few years now. Learning about its hidden wonders and knowledge unknown. While he wasn’t exactly born for magic, he had certainly picked up the odd spell or two. He had once befriended a size-shifting fire-born demon named Sapnap, that he had spent the winters with in the past and learnt some basic spells anyone with enough practice could use. Although he had never actually seen his friend's bigger form, he missed Sapnap dearly. He had left to go meet with an old friend of his for a while and George had decided he wanted to continue to explore. But whilst George was curious and loved discovering new things, he tended to stay away from anything larger than a bush. Or if he was being more specific; Humans. When you live in a world that’s 100x bigger than you, sentient beings 100x bigger with it are terrifying. He’d seen the destruction beings of such caliber could cause. If they wanted to, they could tear through trees with massive iron blades, light fires and cause havoc in an instant. But at worst? They’d stamp out life in a heartbeat. And while you think they may only be stories told to young children to keep them within the safety of the colony walls, George had seen it first hand. His parents had hidden him in a small grotto before leading the monsters away. And because of that, he’d never actually encountered a human in person. That was definitely something he could be grateful for. He’d only seen a little of what had happened to his parents before they had passed and he had opted to drown out the sounds of destruction rather than watch it in horror. Who knew it would be the last time he would ever see them. He missed them dearly but was thankful that in all his time traveling, he’d never seen a human and hopefully never would. Hope might have been an understatement….
George placed his little toadstool hat to the side of him as he removed his satchel from over his shoulder. He brushed over it lightly, a small smile gracing his face as he reminisced in fondness. He had fought with Sapnap over how to do smaller stitches rather than big uneven ones that left room for holes, rambling on how his attention to detail was just George being picky similar to his other friend. George then smoothed out his moss cloak to lie on and laid back onto the toadstool, resting on his back using one hand to cushion his head. His other hand fiddling idly  with his light blue shirt. He adjusted his white rimmed goggles on his face with delicate care and closed his eyes as the warmth of the evening sun shone upon him. It’s ray’s practically dancing along his skin as it warmed each cell of his very being. It was nice. On rare occasions he would find himself being able to enjoy the sun like this. Too often this world was out to get him and yet somehow he would find the odd times that he could let himself drift away in bliss. Drift away…. Maybe to sleep? Yeah, that sounded nice.
George continued to keep his eyes closed and began to focus on the sounds around him. Despite his loud and rowdy personality, Sapnap had shown him how to enjoy moments like these. He missed him dearly. Perhaps their paths would cross again during the winter? It was unlikely since he could size shift and had said his friend traveled around a lot, but George was happy for him. A small part of George wished he had stayed with him. Sapnap had even offered for George to accompany him and meet his friend, always saying how he thought they would get along so well and how much he knew they would just love George. But the fact that Sapnap was a size shifter implied that his friend was also one and that scared George. He wasn’t ready for that no matter how much Sapnap insisted that they wouldn’t harm him. George shook away those thoughts for now though, because he was going to drift away. Just for a bit…
The sounds of rustling leaves in the breeze began to get fainter as George felt himself lulling off to sleep, the sun continuing to blanket him in its warmth. He was almost asleep when he suddenly felt the surface beneath him move. ‘Probably the wind’ he thought. Then it moved again. ‘Okay maybe there’s a deer nearby. That’s ok.’ And again. George opened his eyes slowly. “So close to a nap” he grumbled. The toadstool shook again. George’s mind quickly came back to reality. He could hear the steady sound of massive footsteps approaching as his world began to shake over and over. “Ok, maybe not a deer.” George said out loud as he slung his satchel back on and his hat. Whatever was coming was big and that was never good. The footsteps continued to come closer and the shaking worsened. The steps were timed and even, something that animals rarely did. Whatever this was wasn’t an animal. “Oh no.” George said as the realization dawned on him. “Please don’t be that. Oh please anything but that.”
George raced to slide off the top of the toadstool. He was practically exposed if he didn’t get off there fast enough! He managed to make it off the top and landed to the ground with a thud as the sound of tree branches parted. The sound of footsteps ceased right in front of where George was hidden beneath the toadstool. Not a single sound followed. Carefully, George peered his head around the side of the Toadstool and let out a small gasp. In front of him mere inches away was a giant boot. Starring up and up at the giant being before him was his worst nightmare. A human. The man wore a bright green hoodie, blonde hair just in view peeking out from behind a white smiley face mask that covered most of his face from view. But the most terrifying thing about this being was the black shiny purple axe he held in his hand. He’d seen weapons like that before. It was an enchanted netherite axe: one of the most dangerous weapons in existence, and it was held by a human.
“Hello? Is someone there?” It said.
George slapped himself in the face as he clasped his hands over his mouth. What a fool he was. He was trapped with the only cover being the toadstool. The next closest cover was too far away to run too without being exposed and even if he ran, the human would probably reach him within seconds. He stayed perfectly still. It felt as if he moved even slightly the toadstool would disappear and he’d be discovered. The human had yet to move. George could only imagine it was scanning the area searching for something. Someone. Him. Carefully he peered out from under the toadstool, trying to get a better idea of what the human was doing. Said human had its back turned to where George was and as predicted was scanning the area looking and listening intently. He watched as the human turned its head slowly as it scanned the area once more. As it began to get closer to looking in his direction, George ducked back out of view. His breathing picked up a little as he did so but he focused on the matter at hand. There’s no way the human saw him right? Right?!? Without warning, the toadstool was suddenly yanked up out of the ground and into the air. George shrieked, eyes wide as his only cover was ripped away leaving him completely exposed and at the mercy of the human. The human and George suddenly fell deathly still, shocked by each other’s presence. Even though the human wore a mask, George could still feel the human's eyes burning a hole through his soul. It had found him. What was he going to do now?
“Wow.” The human whispered in amazement. “Look at you.” Well George didn’t care how amazed the human sounded, his words were enough to snap him out of his frozen state and make a dash for cover. “WAIT! NO! Come back!” The human yelled as he suddenly made a move for him. George ran for the closest bush he could find. He didn’t care where he hid, anything was better than being in the open at the humans mercy. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it far before a large hand gripped itself around his body. He wasn’t held overly tight but it still felt suffocating. It was too warm, too big, too strong! All it would take is one good squeeze and the human could pop George’s head off!
George tried kicking and thrashing in the Humans hand. His arms were pinned to his body so he was limited but anything was better than nothing in hopes of getting the human to let him go. He felt gravity shift as the human lifted him up higher and higher from the ground. Sapnap had tried to take him flying on a bird once and he had not enjoyed it being up so high. Finally, the grasp loosened around George and he found himself sitting cupped in both the humans massive hands. The human still wore the mask but while he couldn’t make out the human's eyes, he now felt as if it was studying him over. Taking in every last detail of his appearance and it was terrifying. “You’re actually real.” The human said as he poked him with a finger. George hugged his legs to his chest and curled in on himself, willing himself to just disappear. “Please let me go.” He whispered out. He could feel tears pricking at the corner of his eyes. He didn’t want to meet the same gruesome fate his parents had. Maybe if he was obedient it would show him mercy? “I’ll do whatever you want, please just let me go!
“Hurt you?? Oh no, is that what you think I’m going to do?” The human said the sound of disbelief coating his voice. “I just can’t believe you’re actually real. I thought all this time he was just making you up.” George dared to open his eyes. The human still had its mask on but somehow he looked calmer, gentler. “But still, he never said just how small you were. You barely even fit in the palm of my hand.”
Now it was George’s turn to be in a state of disbelief. This human was speaking as if it knew George but couldn’t believe he existed. That someone had told him about himself. “What do you mean ‘He’ was making me up? Who on earth are you talking about??” George asked. “Oh Sapnap did. He kept going on about how he met this tiny person called George and that you used to live together.” The human replied. “He always goes on about how much we’d get along and how much I’d like you.”
Sapnap? SAPNAP?!?! This was the friend he was always talking about?!?!?! A human friend. How had Sapnap failed to mention the one most important detail that his friend was a human? Sure he’d said that his friend wouldn’t hurt him but never once had he mentioned or implied that his friend was Human. George began to fume. “I’m going to murder him first chance I get!” George yelled. “He never said you were a human! He always said the same thing to me too about how great you were and that we could be like some dumb Dream Team!” George said steaming.
“Really? I rather like the name Dream Team.” The human said, laughing a bit at the end. “Then again, I’m biased with my name literally being Dream.”
“Wait, your name is Dream???” George said as he stared up at Dream, the apparent human. “Wait he didn’t tell you my name? Oh Sapnap’s an idiot I swear.” George laughed in response. “Oh don’t I know it.” They both laughed for a bit at the dumbness of their friend. “Well it’s nice to meet you then Dream. I’m George, but I’m guessing you already knew that huh?” George said as he began to relax. Dream shifted George into his left hand as he grabbed his mask with the right and lifted his mask. A face dotted with Freckles adorned with a mischievous grin and bright green eyes looked back into his own brown and blue eyes. “Yeah I knew and man I’m gonna mess around with Sapnap for not telling you more about me when we get back.” Dream said as he turned and started to make his way out of the Forest.
And as the two trekked back to where Dream and Sapnap had set up camp, George couldn’t help but be at ease. Even though Dream was a human, he couldn’t help but feel safe in the human's grasp thanks to Sapnap and all those stories he had shared. Even if he’s never told him once that his friend was a human, he knew he could trust Sapnap and that was enough. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I actually finished a story. I never thought this day would come T-T. I really hope everyone enjoyed this it was a lot of fun to write and I’m glad I did get around to finishing it. Thank you @squishys-soft-stories for reading the draft ❤️ Stay tuned for the first fic I’ve been writing tho!!! I’m dying at not just sharing it now but its not far off being done!! I promise its going to be worth the wait! Thanks all again if you read to the end ❤️❤️❤️
I had a dream where I was my Sona; sizeshifter, horns (I call them horns but antlers work to lol) , and even the wings. Anyway I was in this world where there was this secret organization that was making future day predictions where they told the weather, sport results, political info, etc etc. They claimed that these events would happen because they had a special machine that looked into the future and if any of the predictions came wrong then that was because the machine looked into a different universe. Anyway, these broadcasts had a whole hidden tone that basically brainwashed people into believing whatever they said and would do whatever this broadcast said they should do. However the broadcast’s secret tone couldn’t effect those “born different” aka people with secret abilities. Anywho, this broadcast station was interviewing people to weed out those with secret abilities. Well I’m clearly spotted quite quickly cause of my horns but they invite me for an “interview” which included a doctor check up and staying for a weekend. Turns out when they find out that you’re different they destroy the belongings you brought and try to find a way to eliminate you. So me and these two others, a girl who could fly with electricity and and zip around at wild speeds and another person who could copy abilities they’ve seen into copies of themselves. They could basically duplicate themself and give that duplicate an ability they viewed somewhere else. Anyway, so they stole my things and they decide that they would crush me…so I may have shrunk myself so small that I simply passed through the atoms of the machine. I start running through the many strange and weird machines and devices that me and the others have no idea what they’re for but they are very concerning. We eventually escape, with me sizeshifting to fit through things or move big objects, the electric girl turning off machines that we were forced to travel through, and the duplicator making sure we aren’t followed by using different abilities to stop any potential guards from following us. Eventually we run into another ability user who is part shark, alligator, and other aquatic animals. He has the ability to travel fast and breathe in water while communication with any animal that spends time in the water. He is known as an outlaw and even the other two believe he might be too dangerous to trust, but I notice that he is the one who has secretly been helping us the entire time so we decide to find his hideout and make plans to stop everything the broadcast is planning to do.
TinyHunt Side Story: Cows? Sounds Evil.
Tw: Minor Swearing, and Lore/World-Building. WC: 2309
“Becky, where are you going?” Asked the caretaker as Becky attempted to leave the orphanage. She sighed, turning away from the door. “And why are you wearing that, Thing again?” She was referring to the Cow onesie that Becky wore, a friend of hers from the surface had gifted it to her. “I, Like, It.” She responded in a biting tone. That comment earned her a glare, that’s just perfect. “Hmph, well, whatever you’re up to, be back before nightfall.” She told Becky, “I’m obligated to keep all of you safe.” She turned and went to either A tend to the other kids, or B hide in her room doing Foolish knows what.
Hmph, well Becky wasn’t too worried for her safety as she swam over to ‘her friend's house. As she was a Sizeshifter, so as long as she is wet, she’ll be fine. Granted she’s not supposed to change size and is meant to continue being a small mer for life, legally. But it’d be fine, who’d catch her? Anyways, she reached the surface near a beach, still thinking about the legality of being a Sizeshifting Mer. Like, Sally was a Sizeshifter and she was allowed to do it. But, Becky guesses that being friends with the King gives you ‘special treatment’. It’s stupid, which does remind her that Sally has been seen less often nowadays.
But she couldn’t stop to explore that thought any farther, as she had just reached the part where the water and the land touched. Emerging from the water, she looked left and right, and up, before emerging and clambering her way onto land. She waited for a second for her body to dry out so that she could walk, then called for her friend as this is the time they were supposed to be there. “5-up? Where are you!” She called out, nervously looking up to the sky- no, not nervously. She went to a spot in the sand where she had buried her Katana, and dug it out of the sand, cleaning all of the sand particles off of the blade.
“5-up, you can come out now.” She tried again, letting out a sigh when she heard that damn bird again. It let out a squawk as it landed beside her, she readied her Katana. “Do we really have to keep doing this-“ She asked before the Bird attempted to strike her, she rolled away. “Urg, you do this every morning!” They exchanged blows like this for a bit, however eventually the bird splashed a bit of water on her, and immediately flew away. It appears that the seagull knows now NOT to splash her. She smirked as the bird flew away, and then a familiar face emerged from the bushes at the edge of the beach.
“Took you long enough.” She told him scolding, but 5-up just laughed, “That was very fun for me to watch.” Then the two laughed together. The two of them ended up sitting on some rocks at the shoreline, just talking. “Why don’t you just, come with me?” He asked her out of the blue. “What do you mean?” She asked him, “Well, you’re always going on about how you’re not the biggest fan of the orphanage, so how about you come with me? To where I live?”
Becky thought for a moment, she’d heard a lot of things about this, Arctic Academy that 5-up came from, but she’d never really thought about what it would be like to actually go there. “I mean, I guess I could, but what would I tell my Caretaker? And the other Mer’s?” 5-up blinked at her, like the answer was obvious. When she didn’t say anything he sighed. “Nothing, that’s, uh, kinda the point of running away. Though you could leave a note of some kind I guess…” he mumbled that last bit, but she still caught it. “I guess I could, but… would I be allowed to stay there?” She asked, she wasn’t super confident in whether or not she could pretend to be a borrower that whole time. “Yeah, your my friend Beck, I’m sure I could convince them to let you in.” He reassured her, giving her a little pat on the back. She smiled at him in response, still a little unsure, but hopeful.
The next day, she decided that she’d leave with 5-up. She left a short note to her Caretaker on her ‘bed’ and quickly packed a small bag to take, tho she didn’t have that many personal possessions. She made a decision to go see Foolish for a bit, while he was the King, he, for some reason, enjoyed her company, so she decided to go and say ‘goodbye’. Becky swam through the coral reefs, and past many Mer ‘houses’ until she finally reached the makeshift palace of the Mer’s, where the King lived. After passing by some guards, who recognized her and let her through, she emerged into the throne room. She didn’t actually expect him to be here, he was usually in his secretive little back room. “Is the King in the back room again?” She asked one of the guards near the throne. “Yes, we’ll inform him that you're here.” He went into a door behind the throne and disappeared.
Becky waited for a few minutes, until finally, the guard re-emerged, gesturing for her to enter the room. She went in with a quick wave of goodbye to the guard. “King Foolish? You in here?” She knew he was, but it was polite to ask, tho she usually wasn’t the biggest fan of being ‘polite’. “Yes, yes. Hello Becky.” Foolish’s voice came from the back of the hall. She emerged into a small room, with a chair, table, a statue of some unknown God-like figure, and several bookcases. The books inside were of course waterproof. “What d’ya need Beck?” He asked, browsing the bookcase. “Nothing Sir, just wanted to come to see you.” She couldn’t tell him she was leaving, but she could buy herself a little time before Mer’s came looking for her.
“I also wanted to tell you that I’m gonna be going on a short expedition for that special Crystal that one of your history books told me about.” He sighed, “Beck, we’ve been over this, it’s a myth-“ She interrupted, “Yes, I know Sir, but what if I could find it? It could be somewhere out there, it’ll only take a week, and I’ll be careful!” She knew he was lenient, he wouldn’t get mad if she spoke a little out of line. He sighed again, turning away from the bookcase to look at her. “I suppose you could… just, be careful, alright? I couldn’t bear to have one of my citizens be harmed.” He finished before giving her a short hug. It almost made her change her decision. “Thank you, Sir, I promise you, I will find it.” She left the room, but not before turning back around with one more question. “Could I have that book about the legend of the Crystal again? Just for reference.” She was gonna be in so much trouble when she didn’t come back.
He nodded, grabbing the book out, and handing it to her. “Take care of it, it’s the only one I’ve got.” She nodded, starting to leave the room. “Bye Foolish.” She waved back to him, before leaving the room, saying goodbye to the guards, and heading for the surface. It didn’t take her too long to reach the surface and the shore where 5-up was waiting. “So, you ready to go?” He asked, a grin on his face. “Yea, I suppose so…” she responded, to which his grin dropped. “Hey, you okay?” She was quick to bring up her own smile of reassurance. “Yea, just a little nervous about leaving the ocean.” He nodded in understanding as they began the trek back to The Academy.
“It’s understandable, but don’t worry, I’ll take care of you, and so will the rest of The Arctic Academy. Speaking of, a little while ago, we got this awesome new recruit! He ended up getting a scar all along his face from fighting a dog! And now he has this cool mask with a smiley face on it…” he talked the whole way they went, about The Arctic Academy, about the people, and just about how amazing her life was gonna be up there. It was a little scary to be stuck at a Borrower size since she could only Sizeshift as long as she was wet, but otherwise, it was pretty cool. She’d never been this far inland before! After a while of walking, they finally reached a fence, that 5-up claimed to lead to the ‘Backyard’ of The Arctic Academy. It was relatively easy to pass through a gap in the wood, now all they had to do was get inside.
They trekked through the grass of the lawn, thankfully she never saw a single dangerous insect, she supposed 5-up passed through here often enough that they stopped showing up due to just how good he was at taking them out. She was feeling really tired by this point, still not used to using legs for this long, but then they finally reached the porch, and she sighed with relief as they began crossing the stone slab. They walked, for a bit longer, before they emerged into a kitchen. 5-up was quick to prepare to swing up there and wordlessly extended his hand for Becky to hold onto as he swung. She accepted, somewhat nervous, but excited to see what it was like. As soon as 5-up propelled himself and her up there, she looked around as the floor disappeared from under her, and a few moments later, she was on the counter.
“Wow, this place is cool!” The Arctic Academy was apparently located at an abandoned Bean house, where it was somewhat run-down. Looking far off into the house, she could see some borrowers swinging about, and, if anyone were paying attention, as the bag containing her Book touched 5-up, the Book started glowing gently, before going back out. However, no one noticed this, then 5-up went off about how The Blade taught everyone, and that everyone taught each other in order to lessen the workload, and he claimed that he'd be the one teaching her. “I don’t think that it’ll be too hard to learn for you, you seem like the type of b- I mean, Mer, who’d be good at this.” She chuckled a bit at his stutter, “So, where will I stay? To sleep y’know?” She asked, while they absentmindedly walked along the counter.
“At my place, of course, my group consists of Illumina, Moth, and Thea, I’ve told you a bit about them.” He informed her, before switching gears, “Anyway, we should go and get you a hook from The Blade, he gives ‘em out, I will warn you, you’ve gotta get up those stairs by yourself-“ He gestured to the stairs that were in front of the front door. “Every recruit has to do it without outside help, and usually most recruited borrowers already have regular hooks…” He trailed off, “But I didn’t come from the Borrower life, so I don’t have a hook to use.” She finished for him, somewhat worried. “C-correct, however! I will lend you my old hook, and everything will be fine!”
He said optimistically as they got to the Fridge, there was a hole in the side that represented an entrance. “Just in here-“ He stepped into the Fridge, just over the short gap between it and the counter. “Um, isn’t it cold in there?” She didn’t want to become a fish-cicle. “Not at all, it’s been off for years, C’mon, I think one of our group members is in here!” He whispered excitedly to her as she stepped into the Fridge, the gap making her eyes widen as she looked down at the depth. She also looked to her left, and just before walking in, saw a Bird House on an Island Counter with two borrowers stepping out of it, curious. She looked around the fridge as she entered, it was fairly dark, with white walls inside, thankfully there was a hollowed-out hole in the big door so they could get a little light. Leaning against one of the empty egg containers, lay a borrower, fiddling with a pair of wings. “Hey, Moth! How’s it going?” 5-up asked, gesturing to the contraption. “Well enough-“ They sighed, looking away from their work. “This is Becky?”
She nodded at the borrower, “Yes, what’s your name?” “Moth, more specifically, Funtime Moth.” "That's a cool name-" She responded before 5-up interrupted, "Moth, where are the others?" Moth seemed to think for a moment, absentmindedly fiddling with the wings. "Hmm, Illumina's probably out practicing in his usual spot hidden in the attic, and Thea, she's probably there too." 5-up nodded, going over to the back of the container and opening it, revealing four 'beds' and a discarded hook or two. Moth shifted so that they wouldn't be in the way as 5-up yoinked one of the hooks and handed it to Becky. "It's fairly simple and easy to use, worst case scenario, I'll come and show you how to do it the 'normal' way." He explained, offering her a reassuring smile as he left and swung up to the top of the stairs to wait for her. When Moth wasn't looking, she took the Book out, and flipped through a few pages, to say goodbye to her old life, before realizing, that the book appeared to double in length. But, looking at the new pages, they appeared blank... interesting. She'd have to figure it out later though, for now, she had an Academy to get accepted to...
@beckyu you caused this /pos
anyway here’s how Dream met Tubbo!
tw: soft, safe vore
“Hey, Tommy, can I talk to you about something real quick?” Dream asked, closing his front door behind him as he walked into his house. His son was sprawled out on the couch in their living room, scrolling through his phone and pausing to look up before looking right back down.
“Sure, what’s up, big D?” He asked, not making any move to sit up. Dream sighed, dropping his coat and uniform by the door and moving to sit on the arm of the couch opposite to Tommy. He’d needed to have this conversation for a while. “Ok, this is gonna be an awkward question, but I just have to ask it, if you don’t mind.” Tommy heard the serious tone in Dream’s voice and looked confused, before setting the phone down and moving to sit slightly more propped up, motioning for Dream to continue. He sighed. “Ok, so, I know you’ve been a shifter longer than me, so…how did you deal with your…instincts?”
Tommy furrowed his eyebrows, not reacting for a few seconds. “…what?” “I mean,” Dream continued, trying to put into words what he’d been wondering for almost a month, “how did you deal with having to…” he pointed at his stomach. Tommy’s eyes widened a bit, before he switched to looking even more confused than before. “Same way you do? Y’know, the only way to deal with it…?”
“But how? You’ve been a shifter since you were practically a toddler, I figured out I was a shifter like a month ago, and I introduced you to the fiancés! Who else could you have possible eaten?!”
Tommy just blinked at him. Dream wasn’t sure how he didn’t get what was being asked of him, so he went to continue before Tommy held up a finger to him. “Dream, I ate someone like an hour ago, there’s someone in here right now.” Tommy explained, laying a hand over his midsection. Dream froze because, wow, wasn’t that a weird thought. There’s was a living, breathing person in his son right now. And he hadn’t had the slightest clue until Tommy had told him. Tommy had told him once that when he was stored, he was completely cut off from the outside world, but it hadn’t hit Dream what exactly that meant until just now. God, had Sapnap done this? Had he just swallowed one of his fiancés and gone back to work without anyone knowing? Had he done it with both? Could someone even swallow two borrowers at the same time?
At Dream’s silence, Tommy continued. “I know other people, y’know. I was pretty lucky to find someone who would put up with my weird shifter bullshit at a young age. Helps to know someone as weird as you.” At that Tommy went quiet for a second before trying to stifle laughter and pressing a bit harder on his stomach. “No, he doesn’t know you, does he?“ Dream just stared as Tommy seemed to be listening in on what they were saying. He watched silently for a minute before he saw Tommy’s eyes go wide and his smile widened. “I think you’re right, it’s definitely time to change that.” He gave a couple more pats to his stomach before he sat up and moved his hand to press a bit lower than it had been pressing. Dream watched as he pressed in harder, almost tell by the look on his son’s face that he’d gotten whoever the fuck out of his stomach and back into his esophagus. Tommy traced his way up calmly and motioned for Dream to come sit by him on the couch. Dream, having no idea what else to possible do in that situation, sat by Tommy, who was moving to cup his hands in front of his mouth.
Dream watched in shock as a borrower he’d never seen was pulled out of Tommy’s mouth. He seemed to be about the same age as Tommy, but with hazel brown hair and the general borrower traits Dream had come to recognize after meeting the fiancés. The new borrower just cocked their head to the side, smiling a bit awkwardly before waving. “Uh, hi?”
“What. The. Fuck.” was all Dream could really say at that, which Tommy and the new borrower apparently found absolutely hilarious. They were both wheezing for air, and he swore he could see tears coming out of Tommy’s eyes. But…there was something off about the new borrower. It was almost like his laughter was fading in and out between human-sounding and animalistic. That was…odd, to say the least, but no weirder than anything else that was going on.
“Dream, I’d like you to meet Tubbo.” Tommy said, holding and open palm out with the borrower, Tubbo apparently, standing on it with a hand extended. Dream took his hand between a few fingers and shook it lightly, retracting to wipe the residual spit off on his clothes after realizing that Tubbo was still absolutely soaked. “Pleasure to meet you, bossman.” He thought he heard Tubbo say. His voice was kind of coming in and out like a radio trying to find a station through static, so he couldn’t be too sure what he’d said.
“What’s up with your voice…?” Dream asked. “…?” Tubbo looked confused for a minute before letting out a short squeak that Dream could guess was a “what.” “I mean, why are you kinda speaking and kinda making animal noises?” He tried to clarify, which apparently helped, because Tubbo seemed to just nod in understanding and point back up to Tommy. “Happens when you go too long without shifting.” the younger shifter explained, taking the hint Tubbo had given him. “You can hear borrowers for a while after you’re small, but wait too long before shrinking again and they gradually start to sound like rodents.” That actually made sense to Dream. He’s gone long enough that he hadn’t been able to understand his smaller friends at all (he’d been extremely panicked before shrinking down to have Sapnap explain that one), but he never knew there was a middle ground between understanding them and not understanding them. “Great, good that that’s on my radar now, what fun.” Dream replied sarcastically, making Tommy laugh. Tubbo snapped his fingers, drawing attention back to himself before quickly climbing up Tommy’s are and hopping onto his shoulder, mumbling something Dream couldn’t quite hear to Tommy. “Right, it’s all about you then, innit.” Tommy scoffed, at which Tubbo stuck a tongue out at him. Tommy revolted by leaning forward, making Tubbo yell in what Dream heard as a mix of squeaks and surprisingly colorful language for someone his age. And he thought the only 16 year old with a sailors mouth was Tommy, though who knows, maybe he picked it up from Tubbo. They seemed to be…really close. Close enough that Tommy able to store him to satisfy whatever weird “pack instinct” came from this, as Sapnap had explained. So, whoever this was classified as Tommy’s pack? To Tommy’s instincts, they were family? Hell, maybe to each other they were family. He wouldn’t know. Seriously, where had this kid come from?
“So…uh, how did you two meet?” Tommy paused in lifting Tubbo back onto his shoulder to look at Dream before leaning back onto the couch again, Tubbo firmly sat pressed up against his neck. “It’s a bit complicated, really, but I’ve known him for a while. Since I was, like, 5. He’s about a half a year older than me, so it was pure luck that we met someone else our age.” “5?” Dream asked. “But that was before-“ “Yeah, it was.” Tommy interrupted, and Dream shrunk back in on himself. He knew it was a touchy subject, but Tommy continued nonetheless. “I…wasn’t a shifter yet. But I didn’t care that it was weird to befriend someone smaller than my hand who I couldn’t even understand. They were never home and Tubbo’s parents had abandoned him at my old house, so we were pretty much all each other had. He became my best friend, practically my brother.” Tommy said, turning his head to look down at his apparent brother, who said something to the affect of “stop getting so sappy” and “clingy,” making Tommy laugh with a half-hearted poke to the borrower’s chest and a “fuck off man, I am not.”
“When I did become a shifter,” Tommy continued, “Tubbo was my main support. I didn’t have anyone else, besides you, really, and you were only able to see me so often at the group home. He helped me learn what it was like to be small. He taught me how to get around, to scavenge and whatnot. He came with me to every foster house and eventually, here.” He finished. “Wait, Tubbo’s lived here as long as we have?” Tommy’s pointed ears turned a bit pinkish and turned down, probably a sign of embarrassment. Dream mentally pat himself on the back that he was starting to get better with borrower body language but this wasn’t the time to focus on that. “Uh…yeah. He moved in with me when you bought this place.”
“…Tommy that was 4 years ago.” “Uh huh.” “And you never thought to mention a third roomate of any kind?” “Nope.” Tommy said, popping the p. Dream put his head in his hands. “What am I gonna do with you.”
“Hey, this isn’t just on me! I told Tubbo he should meet you himself, he just never knew when to!” Tommy interjected, and Dream looked up to see Tubbo nodding. “Even before we knew you were a shifter, it’s not like we didn’t trust you, it’d just been long enough that we assumed you’d met him by accident or something at that point.” Tommy explained frantically, while Tubbo continued nodding. “…Or that you would eventually. This mother fucker is the least subtle borrower you’ve ever met.” Tommy finished while Tubbo only took his focus off of Dream for one second to punch the shoulder he was sitting on. Dream sighed. “Well, I guess I know him now. It’s nice to meet you Tubbo, even if you’ve kinda already known me for a while now, as weird as that is.”
Tubbo laughed, saying something that Dream couldn’t quite make out before switching to hand signs, which honestly shocked Dream a bit. So borrowers couldn’t read or write (he’d learned not to put Sapnap on any organizational jobs unless he could sort by color), but they knew sign language? Or Tubbo had taught himself after meeting Tommy. Yeah, that’s probably make more sense. Dream shook his fist back and forth in what he was fairly positive was ‘no’ in sign language. “Sorry, I only know a little asl, i’m not sure what you’re saying.” Tubbo huffed and crossed his arms dramatically (Dream could guess that he picked that up from Tommy), looking up to his friend without saying a word. Somehow, Tommy seemed to get what he was saying.
“We only know bsl, sorry. But we’d be happy to teach you! We’re both fluent. Helps when you’re stuck at work and you wanna talk without people thinking you’re talking to yourself. Or, y’know, you could just shrink and actually talk to him later.” “I can shrink and talk him him now?” Dream said. Tommy shrugged. “Nah, he’s busy right now.” He said playfully as Tubbo apparently seemed to get the message and jumped backward off of Tommy’s shoulder. He didn’t make it far, as Tommy turned and grabbed him before he could hit the couch, lifting him back up to his face. Tubbo screamed while laughing, a manic smile on his face as Dream watched Tommy open his mouth and lick him, Tubbo half-heartedly pushing the tongue away.
Dream huffed a laugh, standing to leave the couch as Tommy managed to finally stuff Tubbo back into his mouth, trying not to laugh as well. He seemed pretty distracted, so Dream made his way out of the room after a quick pat to his son’s shoulder and a reminder to spit Tubbo out soon so Dream could order take-out or something as an actual meal. Tommy hummed a bit to show he’d heard before swallowing his friend back down. “Got it, big man.” he finally said after Tubbo had moved pst his windpipe. “My instincts were still just a bit fucky. I’ll be good in like an hour. You think we can order chinese or something?” Dream actually laughed out loud at how casual the conversation became in just a second, as if this kid hadn’t just swallowed someone alive. Tommy barely had a second thought about this, apparently. Though, Dream reasoned that he was probably the odd one out if it was such a casual thing for the other two apparent occupants. But he just smiled. “Sure kid, I can order chinese.” he answered before ruffling Tommy’s hair before leaving the room, deciding he would deal with how normal this was all becoming another day.
God, what was his life anymore.
“Cameron! Cam!”
Brielle’s voice sounded strange. Distant. He might have sank back into sleep if not for a small, incessant tap on his face. Sighing, he lifted a hand to brush it away and was met with something soft that squirmed between his fingers and his cheek. The thing hurriedly evaded his touch and left him in peace.
“Cam, stop it!” Brielle snapped, sounding further away.
Drawing a deep breath, he opened his eyes. The lush forest canopy hung overhead, allowing glimpses of clear blue sky. As his groggy mind gained traction, he realized that something was… off. He pushed himself to sit up and squinted around.
A flash of movement disappeared behind a tree, but he was briefly too distracted to pursue it. The trees seemed much smaller than they should have been. If he stood, he might be able to reach up and touch the higher branches. That certainly was not the case before.
“Bri?” he called, remembering they’d been together.
“I’m here!” Her voice was still odd—so that part wasn’t a dream.
Shifting to hands and knees, he followed the sound of her voice, so low to the ground. He flinched as her face—remarkably tiny—peered out from behind the tree where he had caught movement. She beheld him with round eyes, cheeks absent of color. She stepped slowly into full view, as though it took her a great deal of effort.
He regarded her for two stunned seconds of silence before he blurted, “How did you get so small?”
Her expression twisted incredulously, and before she could sputter out an answer, instinct slammed into Cameron like a rush of wildfire. She looked so vulnerable from where he knelt. He reached for her, intending to bring her off the ground and closer to him. Safer.
Once again, he experienced the little squirming sensation against his fingers as he closed his hand around her and brought her closer to eye level. Except this time, her shriek was wordless, and she wouldn’t stop moving.
“Hold still,” he grunted, cupping his other hand around her to prevent a fall.
“Put me down!” She shoved at his free hand and attempted to kick, but her legs were tangled in her skirt.
“Calm down,” he said in a voice that wasn’t remotely calm. “It’s just me”
“I know that, but you have no clue what you’re doing! Let go!”
No chance of that. He compromised by relinquishing his grip enough to make her drop into the pit of his cupped palms. She caught her breath and glared at him, her face now fully flushed pink. He couldn’t help but marvel at her—the girl he had known most of his life, small enough to fit in his hands.
“How did this happen?” he whispered.
“Nothing happened to me! You’re the size of a deity!”
“Oh.” He took another cursory glance at his surroundings. That made far more sense, though only marginally. Distracted by the shiver of her body against his palms, he cocked his head. “You never look this frightened with Nikolas,” he pointed out.
To his surprise, she laughed through the tremor of her voice. “Look at you—always accusing Nikolas of being impetuous with his grabbing, and somehow you’re even worse.”
It was his turn for his face to flush. Although he wanted to argue, he bit his tongue, knowing he might frighten her further. He suddenly felt silly. He was supposed to be the collected one. The logical one. In his defense, his head was still cloudy from whatever slumber that Brielle had pulled him out of.
As steadily as he could manage, he began to lower his hands to let her back down onto the forest floor.
“Wait!” Her voice made him freeze. “Stop. I prefer not to shout myself hoarse talking to you from the ground. If you promise to be careful, I’ll stay here. And gods, Cameron, hold your hands still—you’re shaking worse than I am.”
Tentative, he lifted her back to a comfortable height. She sat back and fixed her skirt, folding her arms loosely over her bent knees. Considering how her gaze drilled him up and down, he didn’t feel quite so bad about staring at her.
“What happened?” he asked, frowning to remember. “The last thing… I ate that plum-thing, right? Or was that a dream?”
“You ate it, alright. No more than a second after you swallowed it, you collapsed. A sort of shimmering light covered your body—as though it came from inside of you. The next thing I knew, you started growing. You were dead to the world for about five minutes.”
The memory began to lose its haziness. They had been foraging the fruit-bearing trees when they found a sapling that bore a single plum. Although it had appeared outwardly ordinary, something had drawn Cameron to it. He supposed he understood why now—enchanted food had a way of enticing unwitting mortal mouths.
He huffed. “Can nothing be normal in this forest?” He gave her a pained look of horror. “Am I a deity now?”
“The deity of idiots, maybe,” she said helpfully.
He rolled his eyes, chuckling despite himself. “Obviously you’re not afraid of me anymore. Hooray.”
Brielle’s cheeky grin faltered a bit, and she stared even harder at him, almost breathless. He glanced away self-consciously, wondering how Nikolas managed to hold any semblance of confidence when there was so much of him to gawk at.
“Did I grow an extra eye, too?” Cameron asked.
“No.” She smiled sweetly and dropped a hand beside her to pat his palm. “I’m just noticing that your eyelashes are even more darling at this size.”
Another laugh coursed through him—and he swore he could feel how much further his voice carried. His heart gave a nervous stammer at the thought that this could be permanent.
“I suppose we should find Nikolas,” Brielle said, clearly of the same mind. “Stand up—carefully.”
Blue or Black?
⚠️NOT A SHIP⚠️
I don't remember Blue being explained thoroughly so if what I'm writing is wrong then just imagine it's right for the story. And as I rewatched Ghostbur's lore it was tacky to me so sorry if I got his personality wrong. And also idk if Ghostbur can be hugged so bare with me.
———
Ghostbur, The sweet lovable ghost who loved making people happy, Trotted across the dirt pathways in the forests—a land which is dominated by trees—He was humming happily with Friend by his side, With a soft soothing face.
Ghostbur continued to hum as he was about to go to a lake where he usually stays, The lake was beautifully surrounded by flowers and had probably the healthiest grass you have ever seen.
Although as he neared closer to the lake, He saw a giant figure sitting criss-crossed. A netherite axe laid closely beside the figure as it slowly swirled its finger in the crystalline waters, Ghostbur smiled as the figure seemed to be familiar of him.
"Ghostbur...?" The giant said as he lifted his hand from the waters and lightly flicked the droplets from his hand. "Hi Dream!" Ghostbur exclaimed as he sprinted to the male, "You seem down?" Ghostbur muttered out and swiftly pulled out a blue substance which he placed at the giant palm, "Have some blue, Calm yourself." An easing voice came from the ghost as a soft echo followed after.
But to Ghostbur's surprise the Blue instantly turned to a midnight black and crumbled to the forest floor as it made contact with the giant's skin, Ghostbur let out a confused huff. He took some Blue once more and yet again it crumbled to the ground, Practically looking like dust.
Dream sighed as the beady black eyes of the mask stared at Ghostbur, The giant stood up grabbing his axe with him. "Hey wait have some Blue!" Ghostbur yelled.
The other male stared at the ghost for a while, As no response came out of him. Soon the male started walking away with a ghost and sheep chasing behind, The wind blew softly and the calming winds made the giant take a sigh.
———
Soon enough the ghost and the sheep were sitting at the giant's cupped hands as Ghostbur kept placing Blue at the giants skin as it always turned to a solid midnight black and crumbled to the ground below, Dream huffed as he continued walking back to The Greater SMP.
As the sheep slept comfortably on the palm of the giants hands, He kept staring at the ghost who kept trying to put the Blue substance at his skin for it to crumble and leave a trail of small bits of pieces and dust from the Blue.
Once they could see the lands of the SMP in sight Drean kneeled down to place Friend and Ghostbur on the soft grounds of the earth. Ghostbur simply stared as he watched the giant slowly shrink to a size he would normally be seen in. Barely anyone on the SMP knew the admin could sizeshift.
Dream was quiet, As he continued walking to the SMP leaving Ghostbur and Friend sitting on the grassy ground, Ghostbur quickly stood up and sprinted to chase the admin. Dream turned to his side to see Ghostbur skipping beside him with a happy expression.
"Why are you still following me Ghostbur?" Dream spoke as he let a bit of softness seep into his tone, Ghostbur stayed quiet and yet again took some Blue and took Dreams hand and placed it. Yet again the same occurrence happened.
Dream chuckled as he shook his hand softly then looked back front to continue walking on the pathway. Ghostbur happily trotted beside sizeshifter.
———
Dream sat on the cold obsidian floor of his cell as he sat stiff and still. He missed his rival, He missed the days he would shift outside of the SMP and ran around and acted like a child to his hearts content. Barely anyone knew anything about Dream at all. They all thought he was serious and cold, They all thought he was quite like Techno yet almost never made jokes. Yet Ghosbur knew...
After some time with Ghostbur, Dream grew quite fond of him and Friend. Dream missed sitting by the lake as Ghostbur made flower crowns and constantly tried to give Dream Blue. Even if he took the Blue it would still crumble and soon turn to ash,
Dream even missed Friend, Ghostbur's therapy sheep. He got used to the occasional 'baa's' Friend would let out, Dream snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the lava lowering and he could see a figure on the other side. Sam stepped on the platform as it moved closer to the cell, Sam simply walked over to the prisoner and dropped the raw potatoes on his side.
When Sam was about to leave he felt a tug on his pants, He turned his head to see Dream still having a hold on his pants. "What do you need?" Sam spoke annoyed yet roughly, "Can..." Dream muttered out as he let go of Sam and placed both his hands on the ground. "Can you see if Ghostbur can visit?" Dream asked with small hope gleaming in his eyes.
Sam almost felt pity for the man as he stares directly at the eyes of the prisoner, Sam sighed then spoke "I'll see what I can do-..." As that was said Sam turned his head and continued to leave the cell.
Sam glanced again at the prisoner with a solemn look, Yet quickly switched once again and left to inform Ghostbur if he can meet the prisoner.
—–—
Ghostbur gleamed as he saw the prison in view, It stood intimidating and terrifying. But Ghostbur pushed the fear away as he smiled, Excited to see his friend once more.
He trotted closer to the prison—Friend didn't come with and slept—Ghostbur met Sam and did all the prison protocols before entering.
Now Ghostbur stood on the platform slowly moving to the cell. Both males stared into eachothers eyes with nothing but the need of holding eachother close.
"Dream?" Ghostbur smiled as he floated closer to the male, Dream stayed quiet and embraced the ghost even if he felt cold. He was warm in Dream's arms,
As they chatted time flew by quickly. Dream missed interaction other than Quackity and Sam, Suddenly both heard Sam's voice with a very clear statement "Time is up, The visitor must leave.". Dream instantly became protective and covered the ghost who was sitting criss-cross on the ground.
The lava lowered as they saw an annoyed and tired Sam, Sam crossed and went to drag Ghostbur but in an instant his arms were stopped, He was grabbed by wrist tightly. As he shuddered a breath as he looked at the dark expression of the prisoner.
He pulled away his arm from the tight grasp of the blond, The warden felt a wave of fear as he saw a definitely evil grin, and crazed eyes placed on the prisoner's face.
Sam backed away as the prisoner stood up, "Dream-...Dream its time for Ghostbur to leave." Sam spoke as he did his best to keep a steady voice. Ghostbur, Who was now standing at the side of the cell, Cluelessly watching everything unfold, Ghostbur's eyes widened as he saw Dream's eyes turn slit. He knew that Dream was fully on instinct.
You see. Dream never mentioned it to anyone but Dream was half-dragon—Making him a hybrid, And dragons tend to be very protective if they care alot about something. Like treasure–Dream growled as he stared at warden's eyes which were filled with fear.
Sam gulped as he reached out to grab Ghostbur to leave as quickly as possible but was stopped as he got slammed into the wall, He stared with wide eyes at he saw the prisoner looking down upon him, A tall figure held his chest by one hand.
Dream was fully on instinct, Sam was paralyzed. Dream grabbed his fist and collided it with the uneven and rocky walls of the cell. The foundation of the wall crumbled into the lava below as it got submerged in the hot orange liquid, Dream stood up with Sam on one fist and Ghostbur in his pocket.
Sam squirmed at the strong grasp of the now giant prisoner. The alarms blared loudly alerting everyone in the server, As people started to reach the prison all they saw was a giant chunk smashed and smoke was covering the area.
Dream and Sam were nowhere to be found, And no one even knew Ghostbur went to visit...
———
I only proof-read once so sorry if there's any mistakes
tommy doesn’t know how much time has passed when something changes, but.. it’s a while.
he spent most of that time munching on rice grains — what, he was hungry, okay? — and dozing off on tubbo’s shoulder. tubbo was probably getting sore with how much he was being used as a pillow, but.. sucks to be him, he guesses.
soon though, he can feel something press into the wall they were laying on, startling tommy and tubbo, and waking up ranboo.
“you guys holding up okay?” a voice spoke up, almost felt like it was coming from all around them.
“uh- yeah?” tommy called out. “kind of?”
the voice, who could only be dream, let out a hum, which ended up being felt by all of them.
tommy shuddered slightly.
“you- wanna be let out now?” dream asked.
“yes please,” ranboo answered quickly, still looking a bit shaken up from.. everything, despite the nap. which, you know, fair enough.
“alright, just uh- hold on,” dream said, and after a moment, the chamber they were in started to collapse into itself. suddenly, tommy felt himself get dragged into a tight passageway, and soon, he was spit out into dream’s hand.
and sooner still, tubbo and ranboo were dropped alongside him.
he saw ranboo, after trying to gather himself, look around briefly- before doubling back, staring at their surroundings in awe.
tommy found himself looking around, as well.
frankly, the area they were in looked pretty average. they were in a fairly cramped part of a forest, with the trees only just giving them enough room to breathe. there were bushes with berries and flowers just about everywhere you looked, and- well, it was green literally everywhere, aside from various rocks and other nature things. again, fairly normal sight for him.
but ranboo, he looked like he was in some fairytale.
“woah,” ranboo said, voice filled with wonder, “this, this is.. wonderful......”
“..have you, never seen a forest, big man?” tommy asked.
“no, i’ve- never really been outside of the colony,” ranboo answered, “no one really has. the only people really allowed out were the patrollers.”
“the- huh?” tubbo spoke up, confused.
“our, uh- our colony had two types of groups that went on patrols,” dream started, “i led a patrol that went around the area, and took care of anything that threatened our safety, if there was anything. and the second one, uh.. went around to gather food or.. hunt.”
or capture borrowers, tommy added in mentally.
“oh! we have something like that first one!” tubbo chimed in, “techno, he uh, goes around the area around our village to look for threats!”
“he’s our brother!” tommy adds, grinning proudly.
dream smiled, nodding, and letting out an acknowledging hum.
he looked like he was about to bring up something, but before he could-
“uh-” ranboo spoke up, “i- before anything else, can we, uhm.” he paused, before pointing to the metal collar around his neck. “..get rid of this?”
“oh- oh!” dream jolted, before placing them onto a big, nearby rock, and digging into his bag.
he pulled out a set of keys — the same keys the guard from earlier had given him, tommy realized — and examined them, before settling on one that looked like it belonged to the collar.
quickly, he unlocked the collar, and as soon as it fell off, ranboo leaped off of the rock, immediately shifting into a form not unlike dream’s, much to tommy’s surprise. and tubbo’s, too, considering how he jolted.
he- he almost forgot that ranboo was a rovenger, in the chaos. forgot he was something that had eaten his kind.
kind of hard to remember when the guy was having a panic attack inside his own brother's stomach.
and, well- logically, it would make sense for ranboo to have a bigger form, just like dream did. he just.. kind of forgot that bit.
they looked.. kind of similar. if dream had antlers, and white patches like a koi fish, had black freckles instead of white, and had, uh- what was it called? uh, the fucking- two colored eyes thing.
he was also- almost comically smaller than dream.
he was currently enveloping dream in a hug, and- dream had to lean down to hug him. he thinks dream was whispering things to his brother, probably apologies and reassurances.
it was sweet, real sweet, if also a very, very funny thing to see. he kept that bit to himself, though.
soon, the two rovengers detached themselves from each other, and if their eyes looked wet, well. tommy didn’t mention it.
dream ended up turning towards the two borrowers.
“thank you,” dream said, still holding onto ranboo’s hand, “both of you, for helping me find him.”
“i- well, if anyone’s gonna be thanking anyone,” tubbo started, “it would have to be us, for getting us out of that shithole.”
“i, for one, am totally happy with accepting praise,” tommy interjected, ignoring the look tubbo gave him. “..but, uh- ..yeah, thanks for not getting us killed, i guess.” he added after a moment.
dream let out a chuckle, ranboo following suit with his own.
a small lull in the conversation, before-
“so, uh.. how, are we getting home?” tubbo asked.
“oh- oh, yeah!” dream perked up. “uh- shit, do- do either of you remember the way to your place?”
tommy froze, before the two ended up looking around the forest for a minute.
“uh- should be this way?” tubbo said, pointing towards a direction-
just as tommy let out an enthusiastic “that-a way!” pointing in the opposite direction.
tubbo, without even looking at him, smacked his hand down, saying “ignore him.”
tommy pouted. rude.
dream blinked, before, “..allllright then.”
“so,” dream continued, “i guess we’ll just, drop you off at your village, and then.. be on our way?”
tommy paused.
“do- do you even have anywhere else to go, actually?” he asked.
dream froze.
“well- uh. i’m sure we can figure it out once we get there?” dream tried, glancing over at ranboo. “and, well.. it- it can’t be that hard to live out here, can it?”
“i can assure you,” tubbo chimed in, “it is. used to be an innie borrower — uh, that is to say, i lived inside of human houses. when, uh.. things changed, and i had to leave, i uh.. didn’t get along that well, with living in the wild, at first.”
“he only lived this far ‘cause of me,” tommy adds, pointing at himself with a grin.
“well- i wouldn’t go that far-”
tommy cut him off with a deadpan look.
“....alright, yeah, maybe,” tubbo admitted.
“and if tubbo, who still had to live being on edge the whole time, had trouble with the woods, how do you think you guys with your pampered lifestyle is gonna work?”
dream hesitated, his ears flicking.
“what if you stay with us for a bit?” tommy offered, “at least until you learn how to not fucking die out here.”
“i- no no, we couldn’t possibly-” dream shook his head, “i- you’ve already done your part of our deal, we couldn’t ask you for more.”
“you aren’t though, i’m offering.” tommy rejected. “listen- we’ll be rather put off if, after all this effort you put out into not dying, you fucked off into the woods and collapsed dead in the grass because you wanted to eat some fucking poisonous berries, right tubs?”
tubbo nodded furiously.
“i’m sure phil won’t mind if you stay over for a bit- especially if he learns you guys were the ones who helped us escape.” tubbo says.
“hell yeah!” tommy yells, throwing his hands up in the air, “bribe the old man!”
dream still looked conflicted, and as he opened his mouth — probably to say more stupid things, tommy thinks — dream is interrupted by ranboo tugging on his coat.
“i- uh,” ranboo mumbles, “don’t- wanna leave them, yet.”
at this, dream softens, before giving it some thought.
after a moment, he looks up at them.
“..alright,” dream relents, “we’ll stay with you for a bit. but only if your- uh, ‘phil’ is okay with it.”
tommy and tubbo let out a loud WHOO!!, earning the wheezing laugh of dream, and loud chuckles from ranboo.
soon, they end up getting a traveling system worked out — the rovengers take turns carrying the others, with ranboo going first(both so dream can rest, and because.. he wasn’t ready to be small again so soon, ranboo thinks, as he rubs his sore neck).
and so, they head out in the direction tubbo had pointed in, and made their way back home.
———————
as soon as they could see something in the distance, tubbo ended up stopping them for a second.
while ranboo(who had gotten his mask back from tubbo by now, and thank god for that, he was feeling off without it) hadn’t exactly been able to see the sun when they first started off, he knew it had to have been at least a couple hours, since it was beginning to get dark.
“what’s up?” dream asked, turning his head towards the borrowers(and brother) on his back.
“well, uh- i can’t really say for certain,” tubbo started, “but- well.. i don’t know if it’s a good idea for you guys to show up like this.”
“..‘like this’?” ranboo tilted his head.
“like you’re fucking huge,” tommy piped in, “if someone outside right now saw you, they would probably freak out a lot.”
“especially if they realize, well..” tubbo added, grimacing, “..the uh, kind of place you two came from, so to speak.”
dream winced, and ranboo shrunk a bit.
“hey, i think they just need to get to know you first!” tommy exclaimed, shrugging his shoulders with an easy smile, “you know, get them to trust you, show them you’re not gonna hurt ‘em, the works. then we can tell them ‘bout what you are.”
tommy hesitated.
“maybe.” he added.
“point is-” tubbo said, “it might be best to shift right now, and hide it for a bit.”
tubbo paused, thinking about something.”
“hey, uh- how long exactly can you hold this form, anyway?” he asked.
“uh- i don’t really know?” dream shrugged, “it’s not really something i’ve ever tested the limits of? haven’t used that form often. what about you, bud, you know?” dream turned towards ranboo.
“well, uhm.. i’ve spent a few hours shifted, so- at least a couple hours?” ranboo tried.
“good enough!” tommy grinned, before patting dream in the back a few times. “now, come on, big man, time to shift — can’t have you spoiling the surprise!” he joked.
dream let out a chuckle, before holding out a hand to them. the trio climbed on, and they were let down. soon after, dream shifted, and joined them on the ground.
“so, where we headed now?” dream asked — pointedly looking towards tubbo.
“wh- hey! i know my way around this forest!” tommy shouted, “fucking hell, i practically invented this forest! they call me tommy craft-innit, greatest navigator alive!”
“if anyone, that would be techno,” tubbo chimed in, batting him on the head, “not you.”
he turned towards the other two.
“the village is this way, follow me,” tubbo said, before walking in a direction. a sulking tommy followed him, muttering something under his breath.
the two rovenengers exchanged a brief look with each other, before following suit.
———————
things seem a little.. off-putting, so to speak, when they enter the village.
that is to say, the whole atmosphere feels somber.
as they all enter the burrow that the village is located in, ranboo notices that.. the whole thing seems.. empty. unlike his old colony, where you could always find someone walking around the corridors, no one was out here.
at first, ranboo thought it was just a difference between their two homes, but tommy and tubbo had pointed it out as odd, as well.
“what the fuck, where is everyone?” tommy had asked quietly after a couple minutes of walking around the lit up tunnels, “like- i know it’s late, but- it’s not that late, innit?”
they ended up not making much conversation on the walk, no one quite willing to disturb the eerie silence.
after what felt like a while, eventually, they stopped in front of a door, dug into the side of the burrow, not unlike the rest of the buildings.
tommy and tubbo ended up walking to the front, and, after sparing a quick glance at each other, squeezing the other's hand, tubbo knocked.
and then they waited.
..and, waited.
..........and.... waited..?
hesitantly, tubbo knocked again.
a full minute passed this time.
“is- is no one home?” tubbo asked, concerned. ranboo perked his ears up, straining his hearing against the door.
faintly, he could hear noises inside the room.
“no, there’s- someone inside.” ranboo said.
“then why aren’t they opening the door?” dream asked.
tommy pushed ranboo out of the way. “step aside, ranboob-” “uh- that’s not my-” “let a professional handle this.”
he cracked his knuckles, held up both of his hands, and then began knocking.
..repeatedly.
he.. he wasn’t stopping.
as tommy drummed on the door, he started mumbling under his breath.
“open up open up open up open up open up open up open-”
soon enough, even through the persistent knocking, ranboo could hear footsteps stomping their way towards the door.
“uhm- tommy, maybe you should-” before he could finish that sentence, though, the door slammed itself open, and out popped a borrower — brown haired, with dark eyes, wearing a yellow sweater.
“what the fuck do you want-” they started to snarl at the group, before they seemingly registered who exactly was at the door. as their gaze landed on the two borrowers, their eyes widened, and they took a shocked step back.
the three stared at each other for a while.
“..hey, wil.” tubbo spoke up, trying for a smile, but his face began to wobble for a bit, and his eyes were shiny.
“t..tommy? tubbo?” the borrower- wil?- breathed out, astonished.
at that, ranboo heard frantic shuffling from within the burrow, and soon, another borrower popped their head out — a blond, this time, with their blue eyes making them bare a strong resemblance to tommy, though that was where their likeness ended. instead, they seemed to have traded fur for feathers, what with their large black wings behind them.
“boys?” the older borrower said, their voice breaking at the word.
at the blonde’s appearance, the two’s calm facade seemed to crack, before-
“dad!” tommy shouted, before shooting himself at the elder, tubbo following not too far behind. they quickly pulled him, as well as wil, into a tight hug, their father not hesitating to wrap his wings around them all. he thinks he could hear quiet sobs.
ranboo turned his attention away from the sight when he felt a hand on his shoulder, and looked to see his brother staring at them with a sad, but proud smile.
after a few minutes, they reluctantly pulled away from each other, but they still held on.
“i- what happened to you two- how are you back?!” the father exclaimed, clutching tightly onto the two’s hands, as if thinking that if he let go, they’d disappear all over again.
without speaking- they were probably too choked up to talk at the moment, all the emotions they had kept on hold before coming back rapidly- they turned towards the two rovengers.
the two older borrowers’ eyes widened, not having noticed that they had company.
a pause.
..ranboo waved awkwardly.
“oh,” the father blinked, before straightening up, “oh!” he made his way over to the two, before holding out his hand — or, talons, ranboo guessed would be a better word, seeing their resemblance to a bird’s, well.. talons — for them to shake.
“hey there, my name’s phil,” the father said, gripping dream’s hand in a firm shake, then ranboo’s. as he did so, he tilted his head towards the other borrower — who had proceeded to hold tommy and tubbo close to them — and continued, “and that over there, is wilbur. and you-” he looked at the two with an almost vulnerable look in his eyes, “you two are the reasons my boys are home?”
“i-” dream choked out, before clearing his throat, “i, uh- we are, sir.”
phil let out a gentle smile, his eyes still wet from earlier.
“thank you.” he said. “how can i ever repay you?”
“oh, uh- well, you- you don’t need to-” dream started, only to get cut off.
“no no, i insist!” phil said, waving him off. “how about you stay over for dinner — techno should be home soon, i’m sure he’d love to meet the two that brought his brothers back.”
“techno? being happy to talk to strangers? unlikely,” tommy joked, but it was overshadowed by tubbo’s confusion.
“wait, he’s not home?” tubbo asked, “isn’t he usually back from his patrols by now?”
“oh, he’s been going on longer patrols, recently,” wilbur cut in, “he, uh- took you two’s disappearance.. kind of hard. we all did.”
tommy’s ears dipped, and tubbo frowned slightly.
“but your back now,” phil said, holding his boys close again, “and that’s all that matters now.”
the sight warmed ranboo’s heart, and his tail wagged back and forth slightly.
phil pulled away once more, holding onto tommy and tubbo’s hands.
“now, come on in,” phil said, pulling the boys inside, “i’ll get started on dinner, and you can tell us about what had happened.”
———————
after phil had started making dinner — which consisted of a mushroom stew, with various berries ranboo couldn’t name as a side — they began their story.
they agreed while phil and wilbur were preparing stuff that they would share.. almost the full truth. just.. mixing stuff up a bit.
the story they told was about the same, except ranboo was a fellow cellmate, and dream had broken in to save his brother. dream ended up meeting tommy while trying to find him, and ended up freeing him as well- before setting off to find both of their brothers.
from there, the story played out about the same way — just that ranboo and tubbo never got separated, nor did they all have to deal with.. getting put in the pouch.
and while they did omit what dream and ranboo were, they did end up telling them why exactly they were captured. and.. by the horrified looks on their faces, and how they clutches onto the younger boys a bit tighter, well.. they didn’t seem to like that all that much, to say the least.
ranboo could tell dream wasn’t having a great time explaining that part, either. the older two borrowers would probably guess that he was still afraid of being so close to losing his brother — and, well, they weren’t exactly wrong — but ranboo knew he was still having a tough time with the realization of his food being sapient.
and that’s not to say ranboo was having an easier time dealing with it, but.. he’s not the one who had been eating borrowers for the past twenty-two years.
soon, when the stew was almost finished, the door opened with little warning, and in came another borrower — one with pink hair, a red, furred cloak; and a scar over their left eye.
“phil, i need to talk to you-” they said hurriedly, before taking into account who was in the room.
their hand twitched towards the- the actual fucking sword they had resting under their coat when their eyes flicked over ranboo and dream, but then-
then they noticed the other two on the room.
and they froze.
“t..theseus? atlas?” they croaked out.
“techno!” both of the boys shouted, rushing over to hug them.
techno immediately got down on one knee, and scooped them up into a crushing hug once they got close enough.
they stayed like that for a moment. then-
“does this mean we have to tell the story again?” ranboo spoke up, causing techno to snap his head up.
“uh, who- who’s this?” he asked, voice only barely showing his confusion.
phil chuckled, pouring the stew into various bowls.
“don’t worry, ranboo, i’ll tell him everything in a bit,” he said, before turning his attention towards the pink-haired borrower, “tech, these two are the two that brought our boys back here.”
techno stared at them for a moment, before- reluctantly- stepping away from tommy and tubbo, heading towards them. he held out his hand, and ranboo took it and- ow, woah okay he- certainly had a good grip. they shook, before he moved onto dream, who reacted in pretty much the same way as him.
“thank you,” techno said, with a carefully controlled voice, though ranboo could see his eyes shining slightly, “for bringing them home.”
“not- not a problem, uh- mr. techno,” ranboo stammered.
after that, they gathered around the living room, and started eating dinner.
they ended up chatting about various, random things, and by the end, they were all fairly acquainted with each other.
when they were almost done with the stew, phil brought up something.
“hey, are you two staying anywhere, currently?” phil asked the rovengers.
“uh- not, not really?” dream shrugged.
“they’re innie borrowers, like i was,” tubbo spoke up. oh, so that’s the sorry we’re going with, okay then, ranboo thought.
at this, phil perked up.
“you are?” phil asked.
dream shrugged again. ranboo ended up nodding, if only to go along with the alibi.
“can they stay here?” tommy asked excitedly, tail wagging back and forth, stars in his eyes.
“i mean, we certainly can’t just shove them out now,” tubbo said, “it’s gotta be dark out by now, there’s no way they would make it through the night like this.”
well, we’d probably last the night, ranboo thought, pouting slightly beneath his mask. it’s just.. the rest of the nights we’d have to worry about..
“oh no- of course not!” phil said, before turning towards dream and ranboo, “we don’t really have any guest rooms, at the moment, but- until we can get you your own house, you two can sleep in my room.”
“i- no, we- we couldn’t-” dream tried to back down, but phil shook his head.
“nonsense — after all you did, it’s the least i could do, really.” phil said.
dream tried to stammer out a response, but phil kept staring at him with a stubborn look.
eventually, dream slumped his shoulders.
“if- if you’re sure.” dream relented.
phil gave a satisfied nod, and after that, the conversation moved on.
and ranboo.. ranboo hadn’t felt this at home in a long, long while.
———————
once everyone else settled into their rooms, phil made his way to the couch, and started getting it ready for him to sleep in.
soon, he heard footsteps, and he turned around to see techno making his way towards him.
he had traded his red cloak for a white undergarment, and his long hair, which was normally held up in a bun, flowed down his shoulders.
“i need to talk to you about something,” techno said.
phil stared at him for a moment, before sitting down on the couch, patting on the side.
techno, after a brief pause, took the signal, and sat down beside him.
“did something happen?” phil asked.
“something like that,” techno said vaguely, “i, uh.. found something while out on patrol.”
phil stiffened, his feathered-ears flicking slightly.
“good or bad?” he asked — though, judging by the tone, he could only assume the latter.
“i.. you know those tracks that were around when tommy and tubbo first disappeared.”
“y..yeah, i do, mate.”
“they- when flying around on carl, i- i saw them again.”
“you- what?” phil whisper-shouted, not wanting to alert anyone else in the household.
“i think- the same creatures that took them before-”
“rovengers,” phil cut off. techno blinked at him.
“heh?”
“oh- fuck, did i not-” phil said, and- shit, he never got the chance to tell techno the story they were told. “okay, uh- i’ll tell you what happened in a bit, just- are you saying they were followed?”
“they.. might have been, yeah..”
“shit,” phil exclaimed. his wings puffed up, slightly.
“i- okay,” he said, “tell- tell everyone to be careful. keep following curfew, and- don’t let anyone go out for a while, not without special permission. and- be careful on your patrols.”
“huh, almost thought you were gonna tell me not to go out at all.” techno joked. phil huffed out a laugh.
“please, i know you’re stubborn as fuck, you wouldn’t take that. you’d either argue against me, or go out in secret, and i’d rather know where you’re going then worry my ass off,” he said, “besides, we need someone to keep an eye out for updates.”
techno let out a chuckle. “yeah yeah, on it.”
“now,” techno continued, “what’s this about a story?”
and as phil told him what he himself had been told earlier, he found his thoughts drifting back towards his boys.
prime, he’s so fucking relieved that they’re both okay. after- after that first week of nothing from them, they.. they really thought the worst.
and the worst almost did happen.
he doesn’t think he can thank those two strangers enough for their help.. but he thinks he had a good start, what with the dinner and the room.
phil doesn’t know what they're situation was like before they came across his boys, but it must not have been good if innie borrowers got into the hands of the creatures — the rovengers.
though, he suppose it doesn’t matter what they’re situation was like before, now. they’re here, and phil’s willing to do whatever it takes to repay them.
if they want to head out, he’s willing to help teach them the ways of the woods, teach them how to survive.
and if they want to stay, well.. he’s already ready to welcome them.
A simple desire to edit a cape onto Toffee resulted in the birth of a Civil War AU I’m calling Moon vs the Forces of Mayhem
In this AU, the day the peace treaty was supposed to be signed, Mina and the Magic High Commission betrayed Queen Comet and crystalized her. During the uproar that followed, Mina accidentally let slip the fact that Festivia was born a commoner, leading to the Mewman kingdoms to realize that anyone could use magic and all start fighting for the wand- including Mina herself, backed by the MHC and an army of monster hating supporters, and Miss Heinous of St. Olga’s who turned her robot staff into an army when she realized that she was the rightful heir to the Butterfly Kingdom.
Meanwhile, after her mother was crystalized, Moon was taken in by Archduke Batwin and the monsters. Wanting to fulfill her mother’s dream of making peace with them, Moon allied herself with the monsters, and changed her name to “Moon Dragonfly” in an attempt to appease Heinous, who takes back her birth name of Meteora. They each realize that the other is a victim and their true enemy is the Commission who deceived them both, but there’s still a lot of bad blood between them and they currently have a tentative truce.
Toffee was going to kill Comet the day of the signing, but was shocked by the betrayal of the Commission and Mina. He quickly decided that Moon’s family was not the problem, but rather the Commission and befriended Moon when the Archduke took her in. After a few years, Moon decided that Batwin no longer had the spine to lead, killed him, and promoted Toffee to the position of “Grand General” and took him as her lover.
Meanwhile, River Johansen, a former suitor of hers, was pressured by his family to try to claim the Magic Wand for the Barbarian Clans. He tried to explain to her that he was only doing what his family demanded, but Moon refused to listen and later captured his family and fed half of them to her monsters. River has sworn vengeance and is allied with his childhood friend King Ponyhead.
Allegiances
Moon is allied with most Monster clans, but her closet is Septarsis. The Underworld is neutral, but Moon has been actively trying to gain their favor.
The Johansens and the Ponyheads have an alliance.
The Spiderbite Kingdom, the Waterfolk Kingdom and the Avarius family are allies.
Meteora has her robot army and the allegiance of the Sizeshifters that are her kin. She frequently enlists Rasticore as her bodyguard or to do an assassination for her, but he’s actually on Toffee’s payroll keeping an eye on her and her movements to report back.
