DRV3 Chapter 4 except Miu Iruma just died of asphyxiation because she screwed up the programming of the Neo World Program so the map just ends at the borders. She walked off the map and then fell into the void and died
Of course Tsumugi was very upset and had to falsify some nonsense to fill in the trial

Twitter’s rebrand is proof that Silicon Valley is in a minimalism death spiral and that not a single cryptobro has ever had a creatively appealing thought in their entire life.

Been thinking about a Modern!Babel AU centered around colleges aimed around Silicon Valley
Immigrant kids being funneled into CS because it’s the field where the money is (linguistics? Where’s the money in that? You want to starve?).
International students coming to America because all the Big Programming Languages and their documentation are in English, because translations of documentation is to err and to betray, because English is the programming lingua franca, because if you don’t know English then you’ll be “trailing edge.” Source
“As an American and native English-speaker myself, I have previously been reluctant to suggest this, lest it be taken as a sort of cultural imperialism. But several native speakers of other languages have urged me to point out that English is the working language of the hacker culture and the Internet, and that you will need to know it to function in the hacker community.” Source
So they come to America to improve their English because you have to be fluent to be taken seriously. Or maybe they’re born in America and can feel the rot of their native tongue as they grow up, even as they learn more and more programming languages.
Java, C++, Ruby, XML, Python, Swift, PHP, etc.
It’s funny, but programmers, even as they’ve decided on English as the one true language, they create more and more programming languages to suit their needs/problem solving efficiency:

[ID: XKCD comic that is titled "How Standards Proliferate (See: A/C chargers, character encodings, instant messaging, etc.)" It reads,
Situation: There are 14 competing standards. Cueball (stick figure): 14?! Ridiculous! We need to develop one universal standard that covers everyone's use cases. Ponytail (other stick figure): Yeah! Soon: Situation: There are 15 competing standards.
End ID]
(transcript taken from the ExplainXKCD wiki)
And of course, the students from countries on the Indian subcontinent are acutely aware of the unbalanced nature of the work they do, the way they’re expected to do export IT work, despite the digital divide in India, Bengal, Pakistan, etc. Especially since it’s a sign of being well-educated (wealthy) to speak English fluently thanks to the history of British Imperialism on the subcontinent.
Chinese IT students sink or swim thanks Mandarin monolinguism making it difficult to learn English. Americans programmers struggle not to link choppy English with choppy code, even while being monolingual themselves!
Not to mention the heavy sexism in the IT field! Female programmers taking on nicknames on emails and resumes to pretend to be men, so they’ll be taken seriously. Despite the history of women like Ada Lovelace being foundational to computers.
And of course we gotta bring up the ethics of AI, how it’s a march towards the inevitable that only Luddites would oppose. Despite the millions who’d lose their jobs once implemented into the workplace.
Commercial transportation sector lost to self-driving cars.
Digital artists lost to DALL-E.
Manufacturers automated.
But can’t they tell that progress is inevitable? That this is the future and to try to stop it is foolish?
As Anand Giridharadas put it in Winners Take All:
“In [Silicon] Valley, prediction has become a popular way of fighting for a particular future while claiming merely to be describing what has yet to occur”
Elon Musk is a genius. Bill Gates is so charitable. Bezos is customer obsessed, and they’re the future, don’t you see? Infinite growth forever and ever.
Tower of Babel? Valley of Silicon.
Unfortunately I suck at STEM, and I’m an uncultured Asian American, so I don’t know programming languages well, nor do I know enough about other cultures to do Ramy, Victoire, Robin, or Letty justice. Just the bare bones to see the structure of this AU and put it out in the world to see if anybody would like to play with it or add on.

1, 14 and 18 for the oc asks, for Matty :3
Had to get to a keyboard so I could answer this properly. Thank yooouuu!
For the uninitiated, Matty is Matthias the digital oracle (only Jaydee is allowed to call him Matty; even I have to type his full name out XD).
Tumblr media
1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
The very first thing I knew about Matthias was the kind of presence he evokes when channeling his gods and how it’s in contrast with his fragile body. He puts on a hell of a show, scares people, exudes confidence and power, and as seon as the outsiders are gone he usually throws up and starts crying/screaming (coming down from that kind of high sucks). But I also knew he had someone to catch him when he falls and who loves him because he’s human. :)
14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
This little shit describes everything like he’s at a goddamn wine tasting for reality. O_o Even when he’s sick he has an instinct for posing himself in eye catching ways; he doesn’t flop, he falls gracefully and bonelessly into a provocative slump. XD
18. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
That he’s in love with his manmade god on a level I hadn’t expected. For all that he’s a skeptic and a cynic and you might think that knowing his gods were literally made by human hands, and for all that he absolutely gives Black Book a lot of sass, he wouldn’t have shaped his life around being an oracle if he didn’t love on the deepest levels. He could have said “no” to being an oracle but instead he looked mortal terror in the eye and told it he’s the artist in this relationship so let him make fucking art here! Where most people would be very upset to find out that something their ancestors made had turned around and manipulated life to make them, he’s always seen that as pretty flattering. Matthias and Black Book have such a neat relationship the I badly want to explore more of.

Saw your tags on that post about swamp milkweed about having trouble getting it started--you may already know this, but milkweed seeds need light to germinate! They only need a light dusting of soil on top of them (and putting them somewhere with a lot of light helps!); if you can't see the seed through the soil, it's buried a little too deep. They basically want to be laying flat on the surface of the soil rather than poked down into it, with just enough soil on top to help them retain moisture. Yes this does make it kind of annoying to manage moisture because you don't really want them drying out either (sorry 😭) but I hope this helps!! I mention it because this is the most common issue I see with people trying to grow milkweeds from seed. They also want 4 weeks of cold stratification (cool temperatures like in a fridge while also being in contact with moist soil; you can plant your seeds, pop the whole pot in a ziplock/cover it with cling wrap, and just refrigerate it for a few weeks) so don't forget to do that!
You know
it's really funny
because i like to call myself the self-proclaimed milkweed queen of tumblr (at least on my gardening blog but still)
And yet
I
constantly fucking forget about the light thing
IDK if that'll fix all my problems (the soil at my house is pretty sandy so I think that's the problem when it comes to transplanting at least) but regarding getting those little shits to germinate??? that might be the ticket
(one of the other problems I face sometimes is the seeds deciding to mold when they're in the fridge cold stratifying, i lost a good chunk of seeds to that last year but i don't see any signs of it happening yet this year so fingers crossed everyone)

Ok, so I'm trying to picture the different architectural styles in every canonic Cybertronian city, and I think that Tarn would be predominantly brutalist(which is my favorite). But Structuralism and Metabolism also don't look bad... aaah
Now I'm trying to picture how Kaon would look like, maybe something like ancient Rome or Naples, but gloomy and more hostile and rusty. For some reason, I also imagine it covered in punk-looking or constructivist murals (idk if I'm making sense).
Vos: maybe eco-brutalist/solar-punk but with floating buildings. Mh - maybe Deconstructivism? Expressionism??? Idk I gotta choose at some point.
Iacon: art deco? Neoclassical but futuristic, something that screams, "We're rich and you're not," but also sophisticated
The other cities are still too vague in my mind for me to decide, but if someone wants to jump on this weird rumble-y architectural headcanon train of thoughts, be my guest!!!

Silicon Valley is running out of creatives so fast that they’re just stealing names and making everything confusing.
Why is Google’s chatbot called Gemini. There’s already something out there commonly referred to as “Gemini” and it’s called Gemini.
Why did Facebook rebrand itself as “Meta.” That’s already a word for a grammatical plot device, which is far more useful than Facebook.
Why is Facebook’s Twitter competitor called “Threads?” That’s the name of a universal smart home protocol that big tech is trying to get off the ground because their proprietary walled gardens started flopping.
Speaking of which, the overall smart home protocol is called Matter. Why? There’s already a thing we call matter. Multiple even! Ever taken a fifth grade science class? Ever asked somebody “what’s the matter?”
Your brand name isn’t going to outshine common language, and it’s only going to make success harder by confusing people and making them search up terms that won’t result in your company at all.

Late night rambling
Here's the thing, I would never let a tech company map, and upload my brain. But I'd let an individual do it. Even the most backwater, crackhead scientist. I'd never trust Neuralink with my brain. The reason? I don't want them monetizing the map of my brain. Not that FloridaMan wouldn't, but the company/government would try to control and regulate the brain afterward. Sterilize it. Destroy it.
