hi gina! sorry i’ve been looking through your blog but i couldn’t find it so I’m asking have you ever made a post about fics with side ziall? and if not, do you have some recs? xx

Hi, darling. I actually haven’t ever made a rec based on side pairings, and I don’t tend to take notes on how expansive their storyline is. But here’s what I have:

Scorpions et Madragores by Stria (E, 23K) Read the tags and author’s note on this one because there are some themes that could be triggering. This is a dark fic and Harry is a pretty creepy vampire, but the story is very well told and there’s a happy ending.

taking tips and getting stoned by alison (M, 24K) Slightly OOC, but I really enjoyed the realistic approach to the storyline and having a fic about life not turning out the way you thought it might, and the opportunity for second chances.

Run and I’ll Give Chase by orphan_account (E, 25K) I really liked the characterizations in this one; the way Harry wants Louis, but is afraid to want him, and then finally gives in? So good! Plus…there’s a second part Jump and I’ll Catch you (E, 13K) that I haven’t read yet.

let’s talk about making love by istajmaal (E, 25K) Oh, phone sex operator fics, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

Through Eerie Chaos by mediawhore / @mediawhorefics (GA, 102K) This one is set both in present day and the 1920s and I absolutely adore this fic. This is such a unique and compelling story, the writing is beautiful, the characters are wonderfully realized, and I ugly cried for realz. Such a good fic.

Finding Lou by stylinsoncity (M, 60K) This author’s writing is always such a pleasure to read -- they really know how to craft a moving story. Slow burn romance with some super sexy smut and lots of emotions. Yes, I cried

I Will Never Rust by stylez (E, 38K) I must have read this at least 5 years ago and I honestly don’t remember details, but my notes say “gorgeous, sad, sexy” so... I’m crossing my fingers that old me knew what she was talking about. It’s frat boy Harry so that could go either way. LOL!

Loving You Is Free by littlelouishiccups (E, 68K) this was one of the first sugar baby fics I read in this fandom, and the set up is excellent. Steamy smut, and great side characters.

In Dreams by dolce_piccante (M, 24K) This actually might be my favorite of this author’s fics, although I know it’s definitely not the most popular. It’s just soft and romantic and sweet and I’m a sucker for tattoo artist Louis winning over slightly uptight Harry.

May We Stay Lost On Our Way Home by LoadedGunn (E, 74K) Famous!Harry meets fairy!Louis. Yep. Mix in this author’s always incredibly hot smut, magic, quirky characters, and this is just a great read.

Escapade by doce_piccante (M, 146K) I know, I know. This fic really doesn’t need more recs –– everyone knows this one. But it is a pretty perfect fake relationship AU. In particular, the hate to love chemistry of the main characters is done really, really well, the smut is super sexy, and t’s a really fun read.

I used the word 'delightful' in my comment and it is that but so much more besides. And I've never seen The Office, so don't worry about not knowing the show.

Waiting For Someone Who Needs Me - graceling_in_a_suit - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] – 17k, T – genie!Harry, band AU. So inventive! I loved this one. The lamp.

Bet On It - popfly - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] – 23k, E – How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days AU. It's years since I saw the film so this was practically all new to me, and I could totally imagine Louis hamming it up wailing about Harry letting their love fern die. Because he would.

Big Sky - graceling_in_a_suit - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] – 30k, M – space AU, hybrids, vive le revolution. I'm not a particular fan of space stories and even so I completely loved it. Such a fantastic portrayal of competent, spiky Louis.

In Your Black Heart (Is Where You'll Find Me) - graceling_in_a_suit - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] – 36k, E – pirate AU, omega/omega, bamf!Louis for lack of a better term, which is my favourite Louis dynamic, let's be honest. It was WONDERFUL.

Love Is a Winning Game - Rearviewdreamer - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] @all-these-larrythings – 47k, M – exes to lovers, game shows, fake relationship. Full on loved this. The game show scenes were a hoot, but it also had real heart and the added dimension of exes to lovers? Wonderful.

Glitter in the sky, glitter in our eyes - softfonds - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] @softfonds – 59k, E – omegaverse, historical AU, courtesan Harry/Duke Louis. You know when you just... don't know what to say? This fic. The pining! Great.

The Last Something That Meant Anything - jaded25 - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] – M, 95k – band break up (written 2014), emotional hurt/comfort. The angst is so good. The Louis whump is off the charts (which I love) but then also everything is so well developed from then on, no easy fixes or short-cuts.

A Taste of Desire - casuallyhl - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] @casuallyhl – 104k, E – 19th century AU, cotton mills, omegaverse. SocialJustice!Louis! This one really stuck in my head. I was constantly thinking about it, and I still am two weeks later. It's also so immersive, I feel like I actually learned a lot about cotton mills. I appreciate that from a fic :D

this fic wasn't tagged either way but zayn was obsessed with liam the entire time and kissed him and ran away and then we don't find out if liam was straight or not or if he was interested or not and then zayn and niall randomly get together and that's it?? like i love ziall and i think it's so underrated but it kind of came out of nowhere, there's still the epilogue so maybe all will be squared away

and i looked at the comments to see if anyone asked about a resolution for the liam thing but there were multiple people saying they like the way the person writes ziall and they usually don't bc they seem like opposites and don't work together in other fics and i'm like what are you talking about they work so well together in like. any fic i've read where they're the side pairing and i have never in my life seen anyone speak negatively about ziall like. it's a great fucking ship what are those people on about

i never have, but i’d be lying if i said i’m not open to it! i don’t actually ship outside of larry, so i kind of investigated ziam, ziall and niam pretty broadly, simply because none of them *appear* as a real relationship in my eyes, and all are featured rotationally as side ships in larry fics pretty regularly.

i’ve never actually written anything other than larry. but if you had a request in mind, an AU or just a ziall one-shot or smth, i’d be open to it! drop it in my ask box, and i’ll get to it when i can <3

Wow the whole plot sounds very interesting indeed! I love the idea that the others dont quite trust louis after what he has done even thought its gonna be enemies to lovers on larry side. I am curious if louis makes special relation apart from ot5 when he went mia for 4 yrs or if it was to still exist.

Apart from the agent fic on what about apocalypse(abo) and bound? Could you talk about them too?

Ah yes, the other four definitely don’t trust Louis anymore, because he defected, he chose the agency over their family and disappeared. I wouldn’t trust him either! And even worse for Harry because I’m fairly certain he was already falling for Louis before Louis’s betrayal. What are you curious about? Whether Louis found someone else to be with during the four years no one saw him? I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re asking about there. Sorry!

As for the Apocalypse ABO, I have two of those: the unnamed Abandoned fic, and When the Dust Settles. Which of those did you want to hear more about?

As for Bound by Blood and Magic, I’m in love with this short OS! It’s a non-abo werewolf fic starring Louis as the unexpected pack leader because he saved Harry, and Harry and Louis being werewolf soulmates who can’t officially be together plus monsters (this one is also a post-apo fic, where it’s a monster apocalypse and I’ve added werewolves to the mix!) and LiLo being childhood best friends and Ziall being from a different/enemy pack! The five of them have to find a way to work together (because yea, I always do that), to save first one of them, then possibly save their world because they’ve discovered a secret that may finally help them defeat the monsters!

As you can tell, I haven’t written a more coherent summary for that one, but it’s got dark!Harry, protective!Harry, somehowalwaysmanagingtobeprotective!Louis, Ziall and Ziam vibes, all of them are werewolves, enemies to friends and magic! Because what’s life without a little magic thrown in, right?

Mine ended up being much busier than I thought it would so I never got the chance to read or write anything 🥲 I’ve been in the mood for a lot of nouis friendship fics lately and it got me wondering, how do you feel about side pairings? (Ziam, Niam, Ziall) and how do you feel about jealousy in fics? Do you like Zouis friendships? I love a bit of jealousy in fics but that does tend to go hand in hand with a little bit of angst. What’s your favorite gift you’ve ever gotten and why? What’s your favorite color? Favorite food? (Sorry to spam you with questions lol)

Heyy, side pairings are fine by me, although I do like to pair them with other characters, but if not my go to is Ziam. I like jealousy and I also enjoy it when it has a bit of angst, but not too much. I think the best gift I’ve received are some headphones, they’re studio headphones, that make the sound quality incredible. My favorite color is purple and my favorite food is pad thai.
