I don’t trust anyone who uses the phrase “female transformers” like……… they don’t have a different biological sex they just use different pronouns and arguably have - in some cases- distinct gender identity. But they’re not “females” …. Nor are any of them “male.”

But also it’s super annoying to have the contrast be “transformers” vs “FEMALE transformers”

I mean. C’mon.

My 10 Favorite Batgirls covers

You know something we never talk about much is some of the stunning covers Batgirls had (would you believe the series had over seventy-two different covers for a nineteen-issue run + Annual).

That's-- A LOT.

What happens when you get regular and virgin #1 covers that were available in other shops. Now these are my own preferences. I mean, to say the least, Batgirls covers never missed really. These are just my favs.

So are ten of my favorites plus a few honorable mentions.

Honorable Mention #1:

Batgirls #16 International Women's Day Variant by Lynne Yoshi. I just love the way everyone is framed in this with Babs being "the Batgirl" but in a past B&W motif while Cass/Steph are the present Batgirls being juxtaposed in color.

Honorable Mention #2:

Batgirls #12 90s variant by Paulina Ganucheau. I love the homage here the splashy page homage with a nice role reversal with Cass subbing for Tim here. My favorite Steph-centric cover.

Batgirls #13 1:25 variant by Rian Gonzales. Her final one for the series, and man did she go out with a banger. Love the Powerpuff Girls homage with most of the supporting cast (Kyle, Maps, and Alyssa) with random Kon and Kate appearances.

Batgirls #3 variant by Kim Jacinto. Jacinto would do a few variants for the series too, and this is my favorite one of them. Love that each had a fluidity with them but that up-close claw of Cass coming at ya is why this one is my favorite of Jacinto's Batgirls covers.

Batgirls #1 the Glass Cabinet Hobbies variant by Dan Mora. This is one of those "store" exclusive variants, and probably my favorite Batgirls cover Mora did on the series.

I love the poses Cass/Steph have here, along with Bab's silhouette. I just LOVE the yellow dips down and to the right even making a rather striking cover. If anything negative I wish Babs was bigger and Dick was taken out of this cover altogether. Still love Bruce on the right though.

#7 Batgirls #1 (though I forget which store had this exclusive) variant by Babs Tarr. If there's one thing I do enjoy about Burnside Batgirl it is the way Tarr drew Steph in it. Just captured that fun attitude perfectly. Also, love the first "official" drawing of her Cass.

I also love the homage to a famous Batman cover but the personalities of each Batgirl stand out in this one. Plus the pink just makes this one stand out and be so striking.

Batgirls #14 variant 1:25 cover by Dan Hipp. Again, the pink is a nice striking contrast but Hipp one-ups it with the little details sprinkled throughout this cover. The easter eggs sprinkled in are PERFECTION here. Probably the best "layered" cover with so much behind it.

#5 Batgirls #18 AAPI variant cover by Crystal Kung. The second of the two AAPI covers Cass got in the series, I love the colors in this one along with the pose Kung gives Cass here. There's that gremlin nature of Cass I love here.

Along with just the wash the background gets further back. I also love the secondary color Kung gives Cass's cape to make it stand out more.

#4 Batgirls #17 cover by Jorge Corona. My favorite cover of the series with all three Batgirls in them. I love how Corona gets the personalities of the three in here while also the starry background along with the Clocktower. Sooo good.

Batgirls #6 1:25 variant by Rian Gonzales. My favorite Gonzales cover of the series. I love the watercolors Gonzales does the most here. Just the wash of Gotham City in the background with Cass/Steph lying in the pool. Also Haley on the little batmobile float. SOOOOOOO CUTE!!!

Batgirls #14 cover by Jorge Corona. The best issue of the entire series and the peak for me of Corona as well with his covers.

Just the somber mood of the cover sets the tone alone. I also LOVE the way Corona has Cass and Steph's capes here. The way each pop sells it all.

So if that's my #2, what can be my #1?

Well... something that just uplifts me anytime I look at it. Something you'd probably not truly expect.

Batgirls #6 AAPI Heritage Month variant by Audrey Mok. There's just something every time that I look at this cover that fills me with a warm glee.

I adore Mok's use of Cass here and the way the traffic around her lights a part of her up. I adore the pose as well that mid-grapple swing too.

I love the "mini story" this one tells too. Just everything about this cover is perfection to me.

The sun beat down on Gwyneth, and she turned her head towards the light, savouring the feeling of it on her skin.

It was not everyday that she got to feel the feeling of the air in her lungs and in her hair, the sun and wind caressing her skin, what with her being holed up underwater by her mother.

But being able to come up to the human lands wasn't fun either when you had an agenda behind your visit.

Gwyn sighed, glancing to where she could see the silouhette of the homes the humans lived in, before she dived into the water, moving her lithe body in the way that her mind knew how to before her body did, the way that had been embedded in her blood before she was even born, before she even knew of her heritage.

As she swam her way towards her destination, she observed the fishes that swam alongside her, the way the light from the fading sun danced on their colourful scales.

Thinking about how beautiful the scene under the water looked was better than thinking about what she had been tasked to do.

Before she knew it, she had already reached the place where she always met him, and she took in a deep gulp of oxygen from the water using the gills on her neck, and let herself surface, hoping that he would not be there.

Of course, fate had begun being cruel to Gwyn recently, and she found him reclined on a fallen tree, one of his leg propped up and the other stretched out, looking as carefree as ever.

He didn't notice her at first, whistling softly as he leaned back on an elbow, staring up at the birds circling near the still standing trees, and her being in no hurry to have his full attention on her, simply studied him. It was already difficult enough thinking about what her mother had tasked her to do, and she knew if he gave her his signature charming grin, she would crumble.

At that moment, the force of how unready she was hit her, and her gills fluttered, trying to do the job her lungs were failing at.

To no avail, as the moment she tried to draw in a breath, he glanced towards the waters, and a beautiful smile split his face.

"Gwyneth."

Hazbin Hotel criticism has been done so much by so many people about very real and serious things but I’m throwing my hat in the ring because this is something most people don’t talk about often.

Hazbin is boring and it misuses it’s setting and biblical characters/inspirations. Or rather it doesn’t use them in a way that’s actually interesting.

For a show about heaven and hell and blatant Christian setting it sure does seem to only take the aesthetics. And not even the visual aesthetics. It’s not even clear on which branch of Christianity it’s drawing from.

This is going to be done with a casual tone and it’s not very well structured because I am not being paid to write about my grievances.

Adam’s motivation as a villain is so shallow and flat. You’re telling me he’s doing this for funsies? For a laugh? Adam was made in God’s image. What does this say about the guy. For a show whose themes is about going “not everything is black and white!” It sure does make him (even visually) black and white. Which is just sooooooo. Boring. Here’s an actually interesting idea that also makes Lucifer more interesting. Adam was cast out of Eden, which was paradise on earth, all because of how Satan (aka Lucifer) tempted Eve (and thus Adam) into sin. So why not make Adam’s enthusiasm for rampaging through hell so that he’s wrecking a Lucifer’s hellish paradise in revenge? If Adam had to suffer then so too should Lucifer. It’s *Lucifer’s* fault after all.

Lets not even get into how Lucifer and Satan are technically two different people. It’s a common thing. But still if you went with Lucifer’s actual story where he’s being so jealous about humanity that he went out of his way to RUIN it all for them. it gives him more depth then him being Depressed. And loves his daughter.

It opens so much more that you can do with *both* characters. It also makes Charlie’s motivation to redeem sinners carry a more personal weight than just. Doing it because it’s right. Her dad was the catalyst! She’s taking on the sins of her father! Make her LEARN that as his child, she does not need to feel responsible for what he’s done. (And, hey, maybe have Vaggie be the one to teach her that! You know, the Angel? The one who would best be able to teach how to change from sin? And not just be “haha fuddy duddy no fun allowed” character.)

Saint Peter is in the show. Saint Peter is there. I am not going to get into Saint Peter because the implications and questions it poses is going to make me insane. And he’s probably only there because of how ingrained it is that *he’s* the one who greets you at those pearly gates. He’s pop culture Saint Peter and not the actual Saint Peter.

Now you might be wondering “what about Lilith she’s clearly going to be the antagonist in the second season.” Yeah she can still have that. We have no real basis on how much she’s done or doing. The only real motivation we have is that she wants to stay in heaven.

(My theory (aka what I think would make Lilith interesting) is that Lilith originally planned to try and outnumber and out power hell so then she could try and take paradise for herself. But obviously the yearly exterminations put a damper on the plan. I bet she was *happy* to be with Lucifer. I bet she loved her family. But she’s in hell. She’s in hell and the queen and her subjects do not respect her (if they do not respect charlie or lucifer, then they will not respect her) and when you have known what paradise on earth is, well you’d want it back. Originally you might’ve planned to take your entire family with you. But you just can’t manage it. Your husband is wallowing and tells stories but he takes no action. You start to resent him. Your daughter has heard his stories and has taken on his naïve hopefulness and maybe that’s what you loved about your husband when you fell into sin with him, but now it just reminds you of what you had and what you cannot reclaim and she looks *so much like her father* you start to resent her too. It’s Lucifer’s fault that you’re here. It’s Charlie’s fault that you stay. And then something changes. You strike a deal. You get to stay in heaven. The paradise you want.)

In a good world this is what Lilith’s motivations are. Which is a lot of words for saying Charlie should have this final “the child shall not bare the sins of the father.” Moment during her confrontation with Lilith. (This would have been something that was slowly built up during the show.)

Charlie shouldn’t be trying to redeem sinners in an attempt to apologize for her father’s actions. She should be doing it because it’s the right thing to do. (You know, for a main character, she sure does remain rather stagnant.)

What else did I want to point out the flaws for.

Ah right ass backwards way that Sinners apparently get redeemed. You are making a show about Catholicism you better get the absolute basics of it down. (We don’t know the breed unfortunately.)

Yeah so like. It should be remorse. You should be seeking out forgiveness for your sins. Not doing one selfless act and then getting killed immediately. And you can have! A very very interesting way of discovering this! You can have Charlie thinking that sinners need to become Good. (And you know, What Is Good.) She could confuse Goodness with Niceness. She could think that so long as they just Stop Being Bad, they get into heaven.

You can have Charlie lean into the whole Fire and Brimstone levels of Being Good. And then have to unlearn that! Angeldust (just using him as the example) Isn’t a sinner because he does sex work and drugs. He is a sinner because of whatever he did to get into hell. He needs to feel remorse for his *actual* sins, and seek out forgiveness before he gets redeemed. (from heaven, ig. Who the fuck is god anyways is god going to be a twink. is there a god? if not then wHY IS SAINT PETER-)

(TAKE NOTES. This is a great way to explore a character’s backstory beyond what’s told via Word of God (a la vizzie) and squinting at the aesthetics and motifs of a character and guessing what they did.)

Being redeemed through remorse can also carry a conflict! Let’s take one of the most morally reprehensible characters on the show. Valentino. Let’s say he has a sudden change of heart. Not a halfassed one. (It has to be REAL to make it an actual conflict). He realizes that what he’s done is vile, evil and reprehensible. He seeks out forgiveness. It is granted.

Because the only forgiveness you need (for Christians) is the forgiveness from god. (or heaven?? Ig?????)

Is there no sin that is beyond forgiveness? Is there no one beyond redemption? Is that whole all encompassing love from god schtick actually real, not clickbait?

I don’t know. Hazbin Hotel doesn’t want to get that deep into it. Because they just want to do a Heaven Bad????? Hell Good???? Or maybe???? Both are Bad and Good??????????? Story.

There is a lot more that I can nitpick and offer criticism to, or simply go “hey wouldn’t this be better?” To with this series. Because I think the concept can work really, *really* well. But it falls so flat on its face that it’s become concave.

My own little spooky challenge for the month!! Two of my favorite things: Sweeney Todd 07, and giving fictional characters government assigned fursonas!!

Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett - Dalmatian and Red fox

When I started this, I KNEW I wanted Todd to be an animal that was black and white. The monochromatic theme in Depp's version of Sweeney is SO Tim Burton that I wanted to preserve it. ALMOST settled on a skunk, but the thought of dalmatian spots mixing with blood spots was TOO cool of a concept in my eyes. TBH there WAS a time when I was tempted to make him a fox, because Sweeney TODD. Get it? But I held off because I didn't want to reuse specific animals TOO much. Speaking of which-

Mrs Lovett was always a fox from the first second. It fits her entire character (Seductive, trickster, lots of red, not to be trusted) FAR too well. The way her ears are posed are also supposed to bring a pair of horns to mind. Something DEEPLY wrong with this woman <3333

Lucy Barker/Miserable Woman - Afghan hound

PROBABLY a very uninspired and obvious choice, but...I wanted to draw ''hair ears'' lmao. Sweeney describes her blonde hair as one of the only things he remembers about her, so I wanted a dog breed that naturally had long blonde hair about it. I de-saturated her colors for her ''Miserable Woman'' look to make her look sadder and dirtier.

Anthony and Johanna - Mutt and Golden dalmatian

Yes I KNOW they look like Scamp and Angel okay. The inspiration was intentional but I might've accidentally strayed...TOO close to the source.

Johanna was one of two characters that took me on a bit of a trip. First she was an Afghan just like Lucy, then she was a doe, but I decided to have a little more fun with her. I made her a golden dalmatian, with the ''dalmatian'' coming from her father and the ''Golden'' coming from her mother. I imagined she's a bit like Oddball from 102 Dalmatians, where she's actually ''blank'' aside from the spots on her face and the two on her shoulder (she gets these ones from Todd) The black on her ear is also from Todd. I could have chosen the easy way out and made her look like her mother, but in my own silly way I thought it'd be fucked up if she looked like her father, considering the scene they share near the end of the movie.

Anthony is a sailor, so I gave him a very ''Sea dog'' mutt look. I just kind of...combined a bunch of traits and characteristics that I thought would work for him. You can see a LITTLE of Toughy from LATT in him, only because I liked the eye patch and all the scruff.

Tobias Ragg (aka Toby) - Bat

Toby was a fun one!! Oh, look how adorable he is!!! Since Toby has the final kill of the movie, and he kills Todd at that, I wanted him something small and cute but...potentially very dangerous. I settled on a bat, because they're very cute and they can carry rabies!!

And yes, that's his wig he's carrying. Didn't know how to portray him holding a pie, and I wasn't about to draw him drinking a bottle of gin, so I thought his little wig might be cute. He was honestly one of my favorites to draw <3

Adolfo Pirelli - Ring-tailed lemur

Pirelli is a ring-tailed lemur for two reasons. The first reason, is because since all the other animals are quadrupeds, having a bipedal animal felt more ''exotic'' to go with how he's seen as very special and from out of town. It makes him stick out naturally as someone of note.

The second reason he's a lemur.......is because he's played by Sacha Baron Cohen in 07.

Beadle Bamford and Judge Turpin - Hyena and Vulture

Yeah I'm just gonna come out and say it - Beadle Bamford is one of my fav characters in this movie so I made him a Hyena out of pure favoritism. Having Timothy Spall play him the same year he was Nathaniel in Enchanted was just for me, I think.

Originally, Turpin was a lion. Because...Bamford's a hyena...and they're the villains...sooooooo....yeah. And I WOULD have stuck with that, but....he's described as a vulture in No Place Like London. And while I knew my designs didn't have to adhere to that...I felt like ignoring it would have been stupid on my part. Glad I stuck with it, since...I gotta admit it works REALLY well for him. I've never drawn a vulture before, and it was fun to try something new anyway <3

If every piece you make is cottagecore vent art, and you can't stomach doing studies, or life drawing or making anything positive. Stick to being a hobbyist, maybe sell the stuff you can draw on prints or charms, but don't lose your shit because academic artists are telling you to draw stuff you personally don't connect with or can't handle.

GENUINELY. ITS PISSING ME OF SOOOOOOO BAD. because okay. this isn't like. her prohibiting us from ever drawing this. we can do whatever we want outside of class. she is asking us to not draw these cliches for FOUR projects. it's good to branch out and try new stuff!! that's what these classes are FOR!

like. for hobbyist artists. yeah, you're likely not going to run into these things a lot. but in the professional world, you're CONSTANTLY going to be told what you can/can't draw. this is normal. this is expected. she's not anti-fun for setting limitations like this. honestly, i prefer this over previous classes that have told me i can either draw x, y, or z and nothing else.

also if i had to deal with like 60 students for 10 weeks and half of them submitted the exact same pieces with the same themes and motifs i'd snap too. like i'm not even a professor but the amount of mushroom houses i've seen makes me instantly understand why she'd say this

Decided to draw my and @offbrandorangedrink’s versions of Apupu/Poppy Soup together! I noticed we went very different directions both with our designs and interpretation of the character, and I thought that would be fun to explore! She’s one of my favorite characters that I’ve basically turned into an oc, and it makes me sooooooo happy to see someone else using her <3 I love that they leaned into an angle I forgot about, and I decided to accentuate that— leaning more into the ballerina aspect for mine and more into the waitress aspect i love to explore for offbrandorangedrink’s. I think it goes to show that however a character changes between canon and your own interpretation, it’s still a valid interpretation, and you’re allowed to have your fun.

The only thing we had in common were the hazel green eyes— we practically chose the same shade <3

✏️ - How often do you draw/write about the OC?

Audrey Grace is my muse!! I don't draw often but when I do it's almost always Audrey, so she's my default drawing subject now, and I never get bored of drawing her either. I want to draw her 10000 more times I just never have the energy or time because of work. 😭 As for writing, if RP counts then I'm pretty much rping her every single day with my friends. RP is my other main hobby besides art and she's currently in 7 separate RPs right now ahhhha! 😆 They go at different paces though so it's not as much as it seems.

✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?

Oh oops she has a lot of horrible memories TTWTT Not only because she's been through a zombie apocalypse but also because in Beach AU she died painful gruesome deaths everyday for like a year due to a death curse skjdfhgdjl one time she got stuck in a hotel elevator and it plummeted 15 floors and crashed into the basement and it left her body in shreds and then she woke up as a ghost and had to limp around still in that broken form, it was awful (BUT IT WAS SOOOOOOO FUN TO RP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😂). Anyway, anyone can send me more ✂️ emojis and I can share more bad memories haha

🥊 -What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?

What she loves to do: Many things 😭 She loves doing her hobbies (painting, piano, guitar, reading), she loves being active (rollerblading, biking, dancing), she loves to try new food, she loves to learn new things, she loves to feel useful and productive by doing her chores and taking care of her plants at home and helping out friends. She LOVES having a good time with friends irl, Audrey is an extrovert and with her closest friends she loves showing physical affection like hugs and holding hands and clinging to their arms. Oh, and she loves to drive, it makes her feel independent and she enjoys the wind in her hair.

What she hates to do: Arguing, and leaving things on a bad note, so she tries to avoid it, but it's hard when she tends to be an antithetical girl at heart. Her silence does her a disservice sometimes.

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?

She's versatile...I feel like I can put her in any AU and draw her any way I want because she's not just a single trope character; she can be anything, like barbie. I also like that she's helped me appreciate nature more and become braver at trying new foods. I used to not care about things like flowers or gardens or sceneries at all until I rped Audrey loving those things which then influenced ME to love those things (and also because they make me think of her). I also don't embarrass myself as a guest in other people's houses anymore because I'm slightly less picky about food now because Audrey eats EVERYTHING. And I also feel like I'm nicer now...I always try to rp Audrey as a kind person so that's rubbed off on me :,) Life hack: if you want to improve yourself, make an OC you want to be more like and get obsessed about them. This also makes me laugh because everyone says we put part of ourselves into our OCs but I feel like Audrey has influenced me more than the other way around. xD
