My final ref sheets for Shasta/Cor, Aravis, and Corin’s outfits. It’s taken me many months of revisions but I’m finally happy

you guys may THINK your otp is enemies to lovers, but you've never read "they got so used to fighting and making up afterwards that they got married, so as to go on doing so more conveniently," about them, have you?

Thinking about how Cor, the boy who "was used to hard knocks," wound up with a brother who was famous for boxing, "and all their fights ended (if they didn't begin) with Cor getting knocked down." Just the idea that this abused child can go from being cuffed and kicked and bruised to realizing that some blows are affectionate. Some blows are playful. And, most importantly, he's allowed to hit back. Can you imagine the first time they get into it, and he realizes he can hit back? This slave boy finally has a right to defend himself, and he and his brother can fight and throw each other around because at the end of the day they are completely confident in their love for each other. If Cor gives Corin a bloody nose, they're still going to be friend by evening. It makes me emotional to think how for so long he had punishment, and now he gets affection and confidence in his position and a brother who he may fight with, but who will never EVER be genuinely trying to hurt him. I just think there's something important about that, about Cor feeling safe enough to fight with Corin even when he knows he's going to lose, because he knows it's not a punishment. It's not a beat down. It's a good clean honest argument, and both of them are going to walk away from it perfectly safe.

my current designs for Aravis, Shasta, and Corin.
I had fun with Lasaraleen last week and her designs pushed me to rework Aravis and Shasta to have a more cohesive Arab (Calormen) style and I couldn’t leave Corin out of the fun

Rituals Of Love - Aceso/Shasta/Ilonka/Georgina Stanton
A/N: Day 7 of @polyamships Multiamory March. TW: Incest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It starts when Georgina Stanton, formerly Athena, chases Julia Jayne, now Shasta, out of her home again. She opens the door next day to Ilonka packing up, clearly planning to choose Shasta’s side, even after everything. Then comes her mother, Regina Ballard, formerly Aceso. Aceso is once again the name she uses, the name she answers to and Georgina knows from the flash in her eyes that she’s about to learn far too much. “She collapsed Athe…. Georgina. She collapsed, sobbing your name.” “Is she…” “Alive? Barely. She’s sick, you knew that but… it’s not cancer. Not now. Just… immense emotional pain, mostly caused by you.” “You did a ritual…” “Three. One for her. One for you. One for Ilonka.” Aceso’s sigh echoes in the air. “We could be allies. Georgina, you were… are… my daughter. She loves you as much as that sweet girl who let me in… you don’t have to lose them. Just… let her come home. Let us come home…” “You did a ritual for me?” “Yes. I did. I still love you, Georgie… I always will.” Silence, then, finally Georgina speaks. “If I let you come home… it’s as a wife, not a mother.” “Fine by me.” Aceso’s smile is quick, small, careful. “Just let us come home.” They do. Next day. Ilonka unpacks, Georgina welcomes the others home and watches even as Aceso tucks Shasta safely into the bed, curling her close as finally, finally, she sleeps.

1977: Shasta orange soda (artificially flavored) featuring my father's left hand. A product of scanning some family negatives today.
Also, a bonus: A1 steak sauce, Tupperware pitcher, and Corning 'Blue Cornflower' pattern salt and pepper.
