Series 8 of doctor who is legit the most funny shit ever. Like, Clara is treating both a time lord and a solider like you treat the side piece. Missy is out here trying to plan the most elaborate "get your man back scheme" that verges into "planning a threesome". That Time Lord is acting like a jealous 17 year old who's listened to too Much Carrie Underwood and caught her bf making out with a teacher. And Danny just wants to date the pretty English teacher...

Polyamory would have made shit worse and better.

Tired of the “Capaldi/12th Doctor is amazing but was let down by terrible writing” claim. Like are you absolutely crazy? At most the weakest episodes were worse than some of RTD’s worse episodes but even so, the bad episodes were likewise few and far between. In fact, I’d conversely argue that Series 8-9 was the peak of Moffat’s creativity and some of the best of the whole show. The whole complex thematic arc of deconstructing what it MEANS to be The Doctor and what it constitutes is imo a genuinely difficult thing to pull off and it is carefully plotted. Furthermore, Clara, dislike her as you may, is probably one of the most complex Doctor Who companions!!!! Y’all will realise this someday and will come asking my man for forgiveness.

I watched the invasion (dw) recently and I can’t help but notice it has basically the same plot as dark water/death in heaven.

A mysterious company based in present day London is using a new, sinister and dehumanizing technology (in dark water it’s a database that preserves the souls of the dead, in the invasion its answering machines … it was the 60s, ok), the doctor investigates, discovers that the head of the company is in fact aiding the cybermen in an invasion of earth and eventually the doctor defeats the cybermen with the help of UNIT and a Lethbridge-Stewart. Bar a couple of Moffat twists thrown in at the end, the structure of the plot is very similar. And I think this is an interesting case study for how classic who differs from nuwho in a way that showcases their respective strengths and weaknesses.

The serial format of classic who makes it much more suited to mystery plots which can build up a sense of slow burn dread and intrigue. This allows the show to properly build up an eery atmosphere that can become so palpable even the yeti can seem scary. (An effect that is greatly enhanced in the black and white era tbh) however it suffers with more dynamic, action packed plots as the budget doesn’t often stretch far enough to really do much and the longer story format makes action a lot less engaging as it tends to be poorly paced. Consequently the invasion actually kinda becomes boring when the titular invasion starts lmao.

On the other hand Nuwho does action phenomenally, excelling at big set pieces sequences like a cybermen invasion or air force one being attacked and shot out of the sky. It has the budget to do these moments justice and the tighter time constraints of one or two episode stories stop it from dragging or being too few and far between. However these tighter time constraints often make episodes feel overpacked and we rarely get an episode that can build up an moody atmosphere like classic who, not that it doesn’t happen occasionally but it’s much harder to pull off. Case in point despite being an interesting idea we don’t really have the time to explore the database of the dead or really make missy’s company seem sinister.

And so yeah, I thought it was interesting how this similar plot structure illustrates the strengths and weaknesses of both incarnations of the show by excelling and kinda failing at different parts of the same plot. As a fan of both versions who hates to see one neglected or derided in favor of the other i really wanna show people that neither are better than the other, just different. summary : aj shabeel , a youtube star , goes on love island.

aj wasn’t sure why he signed up for it, maybe for publicity or a really good holiday. he and the beta squad never watched love island, but one day nella had begun talking about this one girl, y/n.

after seeing pictures of her, aj was smitten. you were so sweet and innocent , he wanted to wrap you in his arms and protect you. but the other half of him wanted to ruin you.

he didn’t tell anyone he signed up for it, but when he got the email saying he was accepted as a one of the casa amor, he’d already had his bags packed ready to go.

obviously, the squad yelled at him for not telling them, but he didn’t care.

he was prepared to win your heart over.

eventually, the squad got over it and drove him to the airport wishing him good luck and said they’d be watching him on tv every night.

and they definitely did, making fun of every little thing he did.

you were coupled up with joshua, a sweet british boy. he wasn’t funny, but his looks made up for that. you had been coupled from the start but he was too shy to make a move with you.

while all the other couples were kissing and cuddling in bed, you two were giving side hugs and barley holding hands.

it wasn’t that you weren’t feeling it - josh just wasn’t for you. so when it came to go to casa amour, you were very excited to find a better match , and you hoped joshua did to.

aj came in with a ecstatic smile, hugging you the longest and giving you a longer kiss on the cheek, which paige noticed, giving you a knowing smile.

you all sat back down, aj sat next to you before billy could. holding up your drinks, everyone done a toast to casa amour and re-couplings.

AJ’S INTERVIEW

aj smiled towards the camera , “coming into casa, very excited to spend my time with all these beautiful ladies. but i only got my eye on one.” before he forgot he mentioned, “go and follow beta squad , sorry i ditched you brothers. gotta do what you gotta do.”

“wait so tell us your names.” you exclaimed, not sure who to look at.

the man on the end started, “my names samuel. i’m twenty two years old. i’m a model and content creator.”

“i’m george, i’m twenty three and i’m a labour.” the second guy went next.

the guy gemma knew introduced, “i’m billy, i’m twenty three and i pick up penguins at the zoo.”

all the girls cooed. you smiled, “that’s so cute.”

“my names jack, i’m twenty three, i’m from dublin.i work in social media.” the ginger boy went next.

the next boy raised his drink, “my names deji, i’m twenty five and i work in the accounts management.”

aj was next, smiling. “alright so i’m aj , i’m twenty five and i’m a youtuber.”

“oh my god, you’re in the beta squad.” paige gasped. “that’s where i recognised you from.”

“the what?” gemma turned to her confused, with a small laugh.

“it’s this content group with , like , millions of followers.” paige told her.

you smiled at him, “really? that’s cool. what kind of videos do you film?”

“mainly challenges and guess the person.” aj replied.

“nice. oh, sorry. what’s your name?” you turned to the last guy.

“my names josh, i’m twenty two. i’m a model from essex.” he told with a smile.

aj scowled silently, annoyed that your attention was now on josh rather than it being on him.

tasha asked the group, “do any of you have any times or anything?”

“for me it’s just like banter.” billy asked, making nearly everyone laugh.

well, everyone except aj. there was nothing funny about that.

billy continued, “if you not funny, it’s just not working. like for me , i just always have a joke i’m never not smiling. so if you’re not smiling , it ain’t gonna work.”

samuel spoke up, “what are your lots types?”

“i like a bit of a lads lads. someone that’s funny, can make me laugh.” gemma said first.

deji lent forward, “see itty-boy right there” he motioned to billy making everyone laugh.

aj watched you laugh, the way you lent forward slightly, your eyes closing. it was a beautiful sight.

gemma smiled, “i know billy, i feel like we have mutual friends.”

“alright, stir it up a bit.” billy laugh. you noticed the judging look gemma gave.

“personality wise, i like to go that’s funny ,very social and quite dominating , like manly about things - you know?”

“i want someone to match my energy.” danica started. “but then they need to keep me grounded, so i need the opposite though.”

you begin with a smile, “ i don’t really know, they just need to be funny and care about me.”
