Silver Crystal is an artificially created Sailor Crystal, the Pink Moon Crystal is the real thing, that's why Chibiusa's senshi form looks more similar to other senshi, while Usagi has a different color coordination from the start and with the upgrades strays further and further away from what other senshi look like. Also normal senshi forms are predetermined but Sailor Moon's is based on her perception of what the form should look like.

Happy birthday Hotaru my gift to you is all the shit I did for you in ReStart. wall of text below
Hotaru 1.0 (土萠ほたる) is the daughter of Tomoe Souichi, de jure leader of the Death Busters after a lab accident that killed her mother and burned her right arm and leg causing her severe chronic pain that's only eased by the Taioron Crystal.
She gets used as the vessel for Mistress 9 that will awaken once the Death Busters fill the Taioron Crystal with the power of the Grail OR Hotaru kicks the bucket. The Let's Kill Hotaru For The Good Of The World Gang (which in the AU is the Outers plus Minako) does actually end up killing her against Usagi's wishes but WHOOPS THAT WAS A BAD IDEA NOW WAS IT.
Saturn awakens, does her thing, Usagi solves it, yadayadayada. When she's reborn as a baby Pluto takes her and puts her in a hospital in the future because I'm not about her murderers raising her as her own pretending like nothing happened.
She gets adopted and named Doei Hotaru (土栄蛍) so now we have Hotaru 2.0. While she doesn't have superficial injuries like 1.0 she still keeps the chronic pain from her but she manages with meds (and later her powers once she transforms).
Her first name is kanji (surname) and hiragana (given name) but translates to "firefly sprouting from the earth." Her second name is all kanji and translates to "firefly flourishing from the earth". A subtle change but I feel it fits lol
SilMil Saturn is inspired by bugs obviously and her mask is lightly based on them classic plague doctor masks. Her fuku is also loosely based on the rejected La Cygne Sailor Moon design.
Saturn 2.0 is basically canon Saturn bar the sleeves (she gets them with the upgrade) and her brooch is rounded yet unique because like the other Senshi that don't quite fit the hierarchy she uses one to transform. Phrase is still Saturn Planet Power Make Up. She also gets a more elaborate glaive.

level 1
Bolsha·2 mo. ago One of the artwork from Kui's old blog before the manga's serialization shows bunch of familiar looking characters with Wizardry classes assigned to them. (Some spoilers for the anime I suppose) The classes are following (As far as I know, I can't read Japanese): Laios: Fighter -> Lord Izutsumi: Fighter -> Ninja Marcille: Mage -> Bishop Chilchuck: Thief Falin: Priest Senshi: Fighter -> Samurai Which makes sense considering their abilities.
-> represents class/upgrades, progression in the Wizardry game. Some classes can upgrade into others
Samurai is interesting as they gain the ability to use some offensive magic, maybe that got reworked into Senshi being able to move past some of his prejudice and accepting magic as part of the world while still being cautious about it.
Laios becomes basically a Lord, a fighter that can use magic generally related to priests in wizardy
of course these classes don't exist in-universe, with some people just having different strenghths and not fitting into boxes

10 (Mostly) Spoiler-Free Reasons to Watch Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon 2003 Live Action
A countdown to the 20th anniversary of Act 1 air date!
Reason 10: The three live-action original Senshi!
Technically introducing these 3 Senshi would count as a spoiler, but not introducing them would mean I'm not doing justice in convincing people to give the live-action a try! SO I'M GOING FOR IT.
Still, anything I share here would be introductory, and I won't go into the story surrounding these characters at all. And as I mentioned basically this whole time in this series of posts, the storytelling is where it counts when it comes to the live-action!
Without further ado, I'm starting off with the most iconic original Senshi of them all:
Sailor Dark Mercury - more well-known as Darkury
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes! We get a villain version of a Senshi! ABSOLUTELY GLORIOUS!
Ami-chan in the live-action is basically the most even-tempered person out there. So imagine the sweetest, MOST kindhearted girl going absolutely apeshit, then you are probably not too far off imagining Darkury's behaviour. And imagine the smartest person you know working against you... now that's one adversary you'd want to avoid!
The unique story surrounding Darkury holds a special place for many fans of the live-action. It's proof of the live-action's amazing writing and unapologetic differences to its original source material, and marks a joy only audience of live-action get to enjoy in the whole Sailor Moon franchise!
Princess Sailor Moon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Princess Sailor Moon is the only alternate/upgraded Senshi form the audience gets to see in the live-action series, since the show only covers one arc so there are no new forms of transformation for the Senshi. Not only she has a harp, but she also has a SWORD instead of a magic wand! HOW COOL IS THAT??!!!!! Senshi with swords/actual weapons and looking fierce is like my favourite thing!!!
She is undoubtedly powerful, and this costume of this form is stunning! I personally really love the pastel pink matched with the midnight blue!
To new viewers of the live-action, don't let the official promo picture of a smiling Princess Sailor Moon or your pre-existing knowledge of the overall franchise fool you into a sense of security of knowing what’s coming though. She is so much more than what meets the eye, and her first appearance in the show is absolutely EPIC!!!!
Sailor Luna
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, that is cat ears and a cat tail... Yes, this is Luna.
Luna eventually gets a human form AND a Senshi form in the live-action. It's arguable how powerful she actually is, but she certainly has her moments of cleverness, sneakiness, and... comedy.
My best guess is, that the live-action screenwriting made this version of Luna by pulling in elements from ChibiUsa's early Senshi days - where ChibiUsa often overestimates her strength, and her inexperience puts her in awkward and unhelpful positions for the rest of the Senshi. Even the actress originally thought she was cast as ChibiUsa during the audition process.
In this case though, because Luna fills the role of a trainer and adviser to the Senshi team, so as a Senshi, we see her choice of action feel less amateur in terms of battle instinct and strategy, but her actual strength is certainly secondary to being a true Senshi. The imbalance often causes some unexpected and hilarious results in battle, and no one really knows what to expect and how to react - to be impressed or to laugh!
You can watch the subbed versions of the series at:
Miss Dream Fansubs
Sea of Serenity Fansubs
The series is also on other online streaming sites, but be cautious to only visit them with good adware and firewall installed.
1 last day till the 20th anniversary of Act 1 air date!

And here's another belated posting for another Sailor Mau!
This one is an upgraded form of Sailor Tiger I believe, and it isn't the first time I've drawn her. After getting a few things wrong on my first go (and fixing them up after talking to professoroak) I decided to make a reference that highlights some of the easy-to-miss details like the back bow and forehead symbol :)
Check out Sailor Tiger's Grotto if you enjoy fan senshi sites :)

I seem to recall in the awful Sailor Moon Reddit someone (an anti-manga stan) whining how Usagi becomes continuously powerful throughout the arcs, a Queen in the future and then made some bogus claim she was a megalomanic (which goes to show you what a moron that person is) all because Naoko made her Girl Wonder in her own story SHE WROTE. They really believe the Sailor Guardians were depicted as nothing more than her appendages. The Mary Sue claim is just probably from salty 90s fans.
Oh I heard the Manga/Crystal Senshi being called "Batteries" for Usagi because they dare give her their energy in order for her to defeat a big bad...
It's not like in the 90's anime they do that many times....
Hell in the 90's anime they barely do that...
Because they barely have the energy to give because they don't have the power ups like they do in the Manga....
Since they can't defeat a youma, subvillian or big bad without her...
I have said this before I'm just going to say this again.
Like the Power Structure would be this
Sailor Moon and Sailor Saturn- Top Tire since they represent Birth ,Healing,Rebirth,Restoration, Destruction and Death
Outer Senshi- Next Since they supposed to be the definers of outside threats
Inner Senshi- Since they supposed to be Serenity Protectors and defend inside threats. Also since their powers was more elemental than anything.
Chibiusa- Since she’s a Senshi in training.
But it still was a balance because the Inner senshi still got power ups  a little after Usagi did got hers.
For Example
Usagi got Supers in the middle of Infinity arc while they got theirs at the end.
Usagi got Super Transformation permanently and power up the beginning of Dream while they are getting their power up as the arc goes on with an act focus on them and their dreams.
They all turn Eternal at the same time as she got hers.
So Usagi is always one step in front but they are always one step behind her.
But they still try to be useful to Usagi and was there when she needed them aka final battles.
With the 90′s anime..
The power gap got WIDER as the series went on.
Like in Super S Usagi and Chibs had their SuperS Transformations permanently for 16 episodes BEFORE the senshi finally get theirs.
They did get their new attacks until the season was almost over.
Usagi turns Eternal in Stars but they don’t at all.
So this upgrade in SuperS is their final upgrade of the series which makes sense Galaxia took them out in one swoop compared to the manga that she took them down two by two.
So Usagi like on the top floor of the building while they are in the damn basement.
It’s getting to point that the don’t even need to be there cause even they attacks don’t do shit.
But they still want to talk about Usagi leadership skills tho.
But their asses are not a great support staff.

What do you think about Eternal Sailor Moon? What would you change to improve her design?
Tumblr media
It sucks. I'm sorry, I wish I could give the single most famous and influential magical girl ever a more tactful sentence but I can't. It sucks. The layered skirt and it's color scheme sucks, the thin belt ribbon sucks, the excessive pearl adornments on the hair and gloves suck, the lack of proper contrast for the white wings of the eternal moon article sucks, and those goddamn pink bubblegum sleeves especially suck.
Ok, I got that out of my system, I can be respectful now. Buckle up anon, you're getting more than you asked for.
Let's analyze first why Takeuchi-sensei might have made some of these choices. The pink bubblegum sleeves? She probably realized that there was too much white around her torso already and there was a need for a color break. The ugly 3 layering? Takeuchi-sensei likes figure skating, which is why in the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal the skirts are not stiff at all. So she gave Usagi something that would work in a figure skating costume, not realizing that every other element of the torso and gloves is too stiff to pull that off. The thin belts and ribbons? She probably wanted a swallowtail butterfly effect with the wings, but she realized that a big ribbon behind would compete with the wings so the put those thin strands and then realized that the usual belt is too thick for them so she changed that too, again, under the assumption that it would work in the same way for a figure skating costume.
And the excessive accesorization? Well, how else are you supposed to "upgrade" a base as concise and short as the og uniform? You can't even enlarge the skirt all that much without a jenga cascade of new problems, that's why all of the variations within the senshis are so subtle. So Takeuchi-sensei resorted to just add "more" stuff to give the outfit more importance. And she kinda had to, because she had already kneecapped herself with the Moon Crisis outfit:
Tumblr media
Now, not all of the choices of this outfit are bad. Changing the skirt to white is subtle but powerful enough, and when the yellow and blue stripes aren't an ugly ombre that doesn't work on plates that stiff they actually look ok. Adding more lines to the collar is also good. However the pearls in the hair compete with the rest of the head accessories. The pale pink of the ribbon comes out of nowhere, and so do the translucent, pointy, three-layered sleeves. Aaaaaaand I hate that the brooch gets repeated on her crotch of all places.
But because Naoko chose to go with this, she set up the expectations a certain way. Essentially this outfit claims that an "evolved" Sailor Moon is a Sailor Moon with more accessories, cohesion be damned, so what else was she going to do when she had to out-perform this?
Which takes us to the second part of your question. If I want to change the Eternal transformation, I need to change the Moon Crisis transformation first so that the contrast between each other becomes a conversation that makes them stand out more. Luckily, DollDivine's Senshi Maker is miraculously still alive, so I don't have to give you an exceptionally shitty illustration of my own.
Let's start with Moon Crisis:
Tumblr media
As you can see, my changes from the first transformation are pretty subtle, but I think they work well enough. Without the pearls in the hair the other accessories from head to neck still work as well as ever, only the choker stands out a little bit more and the difference in the hair accessories may be slightly more noticeable. Between those, the longer gloves, and the white boots I figured the amount of surface space for the color white had increased enough to make this version seem more ethereal, so I put one last touch of it on the outer edge of the skirt and made the belt red for further contrast. Keeping the ribbon red as well means it no longer clashes with the rest, and the Crisis Moon Compact can still be the nice touch of pink to tie it all up with the Kaleidomoon Scope (which, btw, should also be a fucking sword instead of a rod with a handle).
Then, finally, we can get to the Eternal Moon redesign:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So! I made 3 different versions distinguished by color scheme. Two work with the usual combination of white + primary colors and the other is white + pink and gold. I made the pink one first because I wanted to match it to the eternal tiare, and I figured that since white is the more important color it didn't matter much if I left out the rest. And while I still like it and I think it would match the show and be a proper evolution, I get why some would find it too disjointed from her original outfits without the red and blue. So I experimented with those colors instead and those are the results. I find them comparatively tackier than the pink and gold, but no more than the original eternal costume, and all in all they work well enough. Maybe I'll do a poll later so you can choose which version you like best.
Now with that out of the way I should go into the shape of the outfit, since I did make some radical changes. Believe me I don't like taking the "sailor" out of Sailor Moon anymore than you do, but in my defense the options of the flash game are limited, so hear my reasoning before you chew me out:
First and foremost, the wings present a problem. Because they are white and spring from above her shoulders they were always going to compete with the bubble sleeves, since both elements fundamentally alter the silhouette. Ergo, I chose to get rid of the sleeves, since the wings are a more powerful symbol. I chose the sweetheart neckline because it was what was available and I think it looks good, but there might have been other options if the game had more variety (which is saying a lot because the thing has a lot of options). Before you ask, no the sleeveless approach Ami has on her costume doesn't look good on her and no way no how am I doing the Shadow Galactica Senshi thing of unattached collars. Fuck that nonsense. I also left the pearls without the hair bun accessories because, again, they competed too much with everything else.
So we go with a white mini dress. I put a ruffled underskirt to give the outfit a bit more volume and looseness without fundamentally unbalancing the silhouette and since it's pale yellow and translucent it gives the idea of a halo of moonlight with the main white skirt. Without the sleeves and collar the mini dress looks more like something a figure skater would wear, so the string-y belts actually work well here. I kept the back ribbon short so that it wouldn't compete with the wings, and I put another one under the wings of the eternal moon article to balance the excess white. This leaves us with the boots. Trust me, she looks better with these than her usual ones. With a strapless and short dress like this either you go short and blocky with the footwear or go long and skin tight. Anything in the middle will look awkward. I will admit however that they need a band of color on top, but that wasn't an option in the game. Or rather there was an option and it didn't look good so I didn't take it.
In any case, I said before that the reason for re-making both outfits is so that the contrast between them makes a design throughline. So there you have it. We have the second evolution, which is a more elongated version of the first one without changing or accessorizing it too much and then our final version goes the opposite way, being more sparse and ethereal, even fairy-like as it fits an ascended, mythical figure. I hope the redesigns satisfy you, but who knows! Maybe when I get better at drawing I can come up with something else. Or not. After all, if you, like me, don't like the original eternal outfit you're always welcome to redesign it yourself. The world is our oyster 💖🌙

Why the Senshi’s fukus are different in the future
When it comes to time travel in Sailor Moon, I subscribe to the idea that, to all intents and purposes, all instances of time travel were always part of the established timeline of events.
In other words, regardless of whether we are discussing the anime, the manga or Crystal, there was never an ‘original/unaltered timeline’ where Chibi-Usa and the Black Moon Clan never showed up in the 20th century shortly after the Dark Kingdom was defeated.* By extension, Crystal Tokyo is the future of all the characters we met in the Dark Kingdom arc. And not a version of CT either, specifically the version we encountered in the Black Moon arc. That seems to make the most sense to me for various reasons.
But if this is the case, why do none of the future Senshi in the anime have their  Super forms? The real life reason is because the anime staff members working on the Black Moon arc couldn’t have known the Senshi were going to get an upgrade to their outfits two years later in SuperS.
This explanation might also address why, in the manga, the future Senshi do not have their Eternal forms (which no one except Usagi unlocked in the anime canon). Except it doesn’t. You see, in the Stars arc of the manga we are actually shown the future versions of the Inner and Outer Senshi and they are quite plainly in their Super forms, in stark contrast to their 20th century selves who are in their more powerful Eternal forms.
What gives???????????????
I think there are two possible theories for this, one of which cannot apply to anime canon so I will get that out of the way first.
I theorise that, after the Senshi were reborn from the Galaxy Cauldron at the end of the manga, the process compromised their powers, necessitating that they needed to reawaken and unlock them all over again. This makes a certain amount of sense, given how:
a) When the Senshi were reincarnated after the fall of the Silver Millennium, they were normal people and had to re-obtain their old Senshi powers, even though they had those powers within them all along
b) It took a tremendous amount of energy and a major crisis situation for the Senshi to unlock their Super and later Eternal forms. In the manga though, the Senshi experienced basically a thousand years of peace.
The analogy I’d use is how, it takes a while for someone who has suffered an injury to fully recover, even if they have been deemed healthy enough to leave the hospital. They need to regain their old strength through practice and exercise. So, with minimal need to truly go into action, the future Senshi were taking a while to reawaken all their old power.
My second, and preferred, explanation is simply that in both versions the future Senshi choose not to adopt their most powerful forms.
There has never been any confirmation that the Senshi can select which form to adopt when they transform. But there also is nothing explicitly implying they can’t do that either. After all, technically the Senshi can switch to weaker forms by simply returning to their civilian identities.
In the anime, Usagi initially had to transform first into Sailor Moon before upgrading into Super Sailor Moon, a form that drained her energy and forced her back into her regular Senshi form. The same phenomenon occurred when she initially obtained her Eternal form. It took awhile for her to ‘master’ this form and turn it into her ‘default’ transformation. Additionally, Usagi in the anime was always capable of transforming into her more powerful Princess Serenity form and (in episode 35) reverted back to her Senshi form.
So it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that the Senshi can select which form they want to transform into.
But why would they do this in Crystal Tokyo? In the 20th century they always use the most powerful forms available to them at any given time.
I think the answer lies in the different context of the Senshi’s roles in the 20th century vs Crystal Tokyo.
In the 20th century, the Senshi only go into action to address immediate crises situations, whether that is a monster-of-the-day, to rescue someone from a life or death situation, or to put a stop to the Big Bad’s scheme as it reaches its climax.** Basically, they are in make or break situations where it is more foolish than not to hold back. By the same token, this is why the Senshi rarely use their old attacks when they unlock newer, more powerful ones. E.g. we know for a fact Rei can use Fire Soul even into season 4, but she rarely ever did after unlocking Burning Mandela in season 2, and rarely (if ever) bothered using that technique when she unlocked Flame Sniper.
In contrast, the Senshi’s roles in Crystal Tokyo are chiefly as Neo-Queen Serenity’s bodyguards. This means they will be on the alert to potential threats to NQS in general but also in hr immediate vicinity.
Now, hypothetically, if someone of sound mind and determination was resolved to attack NQS, they’d have to take account of the Senshi and their abilities. Meaning, they’d have to observe the Senshi, maybe even try and research them based upon public records (of which there are likely very few about their powers dating back to the 20th century). But, even if hypothetically a would be attacker prepared themselves perfectly to deal with the Senshi’s abilities and power levels, the Senshi would still have an ace in the hole: their upgraded forms.
An attack might have some way of dealing with a Fire Soul from regular Sailor Mars, but they may well be totally unprepared mid-attack to deal with a Flame Sniper from Super Sailor Mars. This logic would apply to the manga too, except with Super Sailor Mars upgrading mid-battle into Eternal Sailor Mars.
*Or in the anime, Ail and An.
**Or, I guess when they travel to the future because that’s just practical.

Blah blah Dragon's Dogma 2 microtransactions are shitty and useless.
What I am REALLY upset about is that I do not get cookable meat from every single large monster I slay.
My internal Senshi (Willow) wants to know what kinda stats cooking a minotaur gives.
Fuck the upgrade materials and hauling that shit back to camp. I wanna eat it now. Grind whatever can't be eaten immediately down into medicinal/magical shit and keep pushing outwards.

Similarities that TMNT has with Sailor Moon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting with the source material: Both TMNT and Sailor Moon had darker storylines and scenes in their original comics, TMNT's Mirage comics had a lot of death, swearing and violence and so did Sailor Moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
their first cartoon adaptations were a lot more light-hearted, revolving around monster of the week scenarios with some slice-of-life elements
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toei animated season 1 of the first TMNT cartoon,
Tumblr media
they later went on to animate Sailor Moon years later
Tumblr media
Their signature style is notable in some scenes,
where the turtles expressions have a very retro anime look to them it's also seen in the not Toei episodes.
Tumblr media
their signature style is notable in some scenes, where the turtles expressions have a very retro anime look to them it's also seen in the not toei episodes
Tumblr media
They both have a evil professor as one of their villains, Professor Tomoe for Sailor Moon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and Baxter Stockman in TMNT
They both have an animal mentor, the Sailor Senshi have their Cats and the turtles have Splinter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They both have an ally/love interest, Sailor Moon has Tuxedo Mask
Tumblr media
and TMNT (specifically in the old series) have April O' Neil
Tumblr media
The love interests initially didn’t get along at first.
Tumblr media
Mamoru would bicker with Usagi before they learned about their other identities and warmed up to each other
Tumblr media
and old cartoon April initially didn't like them at first, thinking they were behind the foot clan's city chaos.
the character roles are very similar
Rei is a lot like Raphael (being a tough snarky fighter)
Tumblr media
Makoto is a lot like Leonardo (being the voice of reason)
Tumblr media
Ami is a lot like Donatello (being the intelligent one)
Tumblr media
and Usagi and Minako have traits of Michelangelo
Tumblr media
While there are more sailor Senshi than ninja turtles, there have been more members introduced in the newer iterations Venus De Milo,Jennika,Lita etc from what I've researched,
Tumblr media
Jennika reminds me of Haruka
Tumblr media
and Lita reminds me of Hotaru and Chibiusa
Tumblr media
in some TMNT iterations, the turtles are reincarnations
Tumblr media
in Sailor Moon, each sailor senshi was once a princess during the Silver Millennium, their sailor scout/civilian counterparts are also reincarnations
Tumblr media
They have quite a variety of outfits the Sailor Moon girls always wear a stylish outfit in each episode whether in civilian or sailor scout form the turtles wear outfits as disguises when near humans, and in later iterations, they have stylish looks for their upgrades too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are both pop culture icons and massive hits, especially for the decades their animated adaptations were made in
 Turtles for the 80s-early 90s
Tumblr media
Sailor Moon for the 90s
Tumblr media
Both have stage shows, Sailor Moon has a ton of musicals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
while the Turtles had their concerts and a few musical VHS releases
Tumblr media Tumblr media
both had PSA's in their early animated adaptations
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TMNT had an anime ova in the 90s called Mutant Turtles: Superman Legend, in it there are mystical fairies and power-ups (via magical crystals) similar to Sailor Moon's silver crystal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dark Mu from the 90s TMNT ova
Tumblr media
is similar to Beryl and mistress 9 in powers and she looks like Rei
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in the old TMNT series, Shredder would mostly attack the turtles externally, through schemes, machines or working with other henchmen like Krang,Bebop, Rocksteady and Baxter Stockman
Tumblr media
the Sailor Moon villains attack the Senshi in a similar way before they eventually face them
Tumblr media
Despite their popularity, both were very controversial shows, especially in the UK
TMNT had parent complaints, nunchucks getting removed and UK censorship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sailor Stars wasn't dubbed in the 90s and Sailor Moon S and Super S were never aired in the UK
Tumblr media
They both had teenage characters
Tumblr media
the main inner sailor scouts being 14-16, with haruka and michuru being 16-17
Tumblr media
and title aside, the 2012 turtles are canonically 15, as for the 80s and 2003 turtles, I'm gonna assume they're a bit older
Both had short lived live action tv adaptations
Tumblr media
Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation (1997)
Tumblr media
and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (PGSM) (2003)
Both are connected to Evangelion
Sailor Moon voice actors also being in Evangelion (such as  Kotono Mitsuishi)
Tumblr media
TMNT had Evangelion replace its timeslot when it stopped airing in Japan
Tumblr media
Hideaki Anno provided animation for Sailor Moon
Tumblr media
Rise of TMNT having some eva references
Tumblr media
Both had references to western and Japanese culture
Sailor Moon is a Japanese anime that sometimes references western pop culture
Tumblr media
80s-90s TMNT is partially a Japanese production and has episodes that reference popular movies
Tumblr media
2003,2012 and 2018 TMNT have anime influences
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TMNT references a lot of real ninjutsu techniques (like Impact smoke bombs and Kuji-in)
Tumblr media
and Sailor Moon (being a Japanese show) has a lot of references in the shinto symbolism, the character names, the food, the activities etc
Tumblr media
Leonardo and Splinter can often sense telepathically when danger is near
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rei from Sailor Moon has a similar ability
Tumblr media
the characters in Sailor Moon and TMNT have both met or worked with people from future timelines
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In episode 136 of Sailor Moon, Usagi dresses up as a ninja, in an outfit that references how her name means bunny rabbit
Tumblr media
There is a Japanese samurai rabbit comic character called Usagi Yojimbo/Miyamoto, there are frequent crossovers where Usagi works with the ninja turtles
Tumblr media
Rei bickers with and taunts Usagi  a lot (in the 90s anime )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raphael in TMNT is known for doing this to Michelangelo
despite this, they are still loyal and loving to each other
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rei and Raphael are the tough angry ones and Usagi and Mikey are the playful ones.
the dorky, sweet best friend who isn't part of the main team
in TMNT, Irma has this role and in Sailor Moon it’s Naru/Molly
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the sailor senshi (especially Usagi and Minako) enjoy video games,
Tumblr media
the turtles do too
Tumblr media
there's a member of each team who is clumsy and silly (and mocked for it) while also being capable strong fighters in Sailor Moon, it's Usagi and in TMNT, it's Michelangelo (especially in the 2003 and 2012 iterations)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

SAILOR TITAN’s INTRODUCTION
Mayumi Daidoji (大道寺まゆみ, Mayumi Daidoji) is the civilian identity of Sailor Titan ( セーラータイタン Seeraa Taitan).
Personality
Mayumi is a brave, adventurous girl, truly energetic, hyper, gracious, helping and smart. Sometimes she gets rude but she never becomes mean and with bad intentions.
In battle she is always the one to put her strength first and fight without getting tired or stand back.
Mayumi always shows her good side to others but is sometimes shown to bring out her immature and violent self especially towards her fight with Sailor Uranus. But this does not extend to her friends but only to her opponents.
Appearance
Tumblr media
Civilian
Mayumi is a cute and impressive 16-year-old, 17 and 18. She has light brown hair and hazel eyes. She usually wears golden small cricket earrings.
Her fashion style is usually manly, with preferences of smile basic colors like red. She loves ripped jeans and sometimes sports clothes with always athletic and comfortable shoes.
Her formal outfits are usually usual, common, simple and she really has the talent to look strong and affective.
Sailor Senshi
As Sailor Titan, she wore the standard Sailor Senshi uniform. The dominant color of her uniform was pure violet while the accent colors were light ocean blue. Her choker, collar, the center of her front bow, the elbow fittings on her gloves, skirt, shoes, and earrings were Violet; the gem on her tiara was Violet and her front and back bow was blue. She has small feather earrings. She had one stripe on her collar, and her shoes were violet heels with ankle straps.
Her appearances go matching with her weapon, the Titan’s Rod, a golden middle length scythe with violet crystals, in heart shapes and a large crystal in the centre.
With her Planet power upgrade transformation she has a violet laser cask attached to her face.
After she gained her "Super" upgrade from Nike, her choker had a gold star attached to it, her collar had one stripe, the bottom of her shoulder pads became translucent, her back bow was enlarged and lengthened and the center of her front bow was a heart.

10 (Mostly) Spoiler-Free Reasons to Watch Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon 2003 Live Action
A countdown to the 20th anniversary of Act 1 air date!
Reason 4: The Costumes!
Yes, I'm serious. No, I'm not necessarily talking about the Senshi costume, though they aren't bad especially once you can appreciate the bulkiness is due to the necessity to protect the cast wearing them - let's be honest, wearing a skimpy sailor fuku isn't that realistic for battles (yes, I said it). And they get points for being more faithful to the manga material than ‘90s anime was.
Thematic, colour-coded, stylistic choices for the Senshi
Many fans know that Takeuchi Naoko is a fan of high fashion, just look at many of her official art that uses runway fashion! While the live-action isn't about that, the costumes team was certainly phenomenal in providing the Senshi with a stylish and thematic selection of everyday clothes that speak to their respective personalities. And frankly, the girls' daily wear feels pretty timeless for a series that's 20 years old.
Their costume choices were even explored in the "PGSM Complete Edition Memorial Book". As a treat, I translated the comments here:

In addition to this, generally speaking, Usagi, Ami and Minako's outfits are pretty feminine, next is Rei's which is a bit more of a mix of feminine and unisex, and Makoto's is mostly unisex, though I wouldn't go as far as say it feels masculine.
Symbolism in colour!
While the girls supposedly are matched with their own signature colour and stylistic choices for casual wear, they do switch up the colours often. The girls' costume per episode is occasionally symbolic of their dynamic and relationship when there's significant character interaction in the episode's plot. Some examples:

I’d also say that Minako's general style of black and white is quite symbolic as well given her character story in PGSM. But I'll leave that for another time when I introduce PGSM's spin to Minako's character later.
Seriously, this show is one where you can rewatch time after time, and you'd still find MORE symbolistic things slipped into the product, either subtly shown right in front of your face or hidden in the background. It brings me much joy when I feel like I caught another glimpse of symbolism in costume choices.
Past life Earth Kingdom style(?)
The Shitennou, Queen Beryl and Prince Endymion's costumes all got a huge upgrade in their design. The overall designs are a lot more ornate with golden or silver trims, and the intricacies seem to be of the same design, suggesting that royalties and guards of the Earth's Kingdom from the past life get their uniforms designed by the same designer?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I truly love that they colour-coded the Shitennou! The original manga/anime design was so plain it almost makes me think they feel more like foot soldier's uniform, only Kunzite had a cape to be fancy. In the live-action, all of them have capes and they are well-used! There are many mighty and flashy cape-flicking in the series!
I especially appreciate Beryl's costume, the ornate design just seems a lot more befitting of the queen. They managed to make the costume sensual but not sexual and also found ways to make the random horn on her shoulders stylish without making it seem like she's grown horns. Honestly, it was an amazing casting choice too!
Fun random costumes:
Similar to Usagi's gadgets allow her to transform into different costumes and personnel for sneaking into situations in the manga/anime, all Senshi have the means to copy any costume/clothing for situations as needed.
This leads to some hilarious and generally awesome scenes with the ladies dressing up in all sorts of random clothes. Some examples:

Like I said, the show doesn't take itself too seriously, despite some twists and turns they added to the storyline!
You can watch the subbed versions of the series at:
Miss Dream Fansubs
Sea of Serenity Fansubs
The series is also on other online streaming sites, but be cautious to only visit them with good adware and firewall installed.

Nakayoshi Media Book Season 4 Volume 2
My favorite attacks of the Inners have always been from SuperS. Back in the 90s these cover images were used everywhere.
Tumblr media
Back cover.
Tumblr media
Episode 135: "Connecting Hearts: Chibiusa and Pegasus".
No one put two and two together her that something was wrong with Pegasus and Chibi Moon at the same time. And then they were both better at the same time. Tuxedo Kamen.... I thought you're studying to be doctor...
Tumblr media
Episode 142: "The Secret Mansion: A Menu of Love for You".
He is not wearing the green jacket! Just the pink shirt that he wore when he broke up with Usagi and broke her heart. That shirt should also be burned.
They lady he helped but not the nicest person.
Tumblr media
Anytime I see Usagi in this outfit I think of Stars Episode 180 where she misses the concert with the Three Lights and Michiru because she got on the wrong bus.
Tumblr media
Episode 143: "Believe in Pegasus: The Four Guardians' Super Transformation".
I love this scene with the Super Senshi theme. Took them long enough to get their upgrade!
