in honor of you sending me delightful bakoda fics i saved my bakoda fic idea just for you.

bato and hakoda served together in the navy. they were partners in everything. they were best friends. they always had each others backs. they saw their friends die in front of them and pushed each other to keep moving.

hakoda was married to kya and had two kids sokka and katara. they always loved skype calls with their dad while he was serving. they also loved uncle bato who sometimes popped into the calls.

but kya fell ill and the navy approved hakodas request for leave. bato understood and wished his best friend the best of luck with his family. hakoda thanked him with a sad smile and said ill see you soon friend.

hakoda never returned to the navy. kya had passed away about seventh months later. he was given an honorable discharge.

hakoda kept bato up to date on everything since he wasnt able to come to the funeral. bato was upset about her death as well. he considered her a friend. she sent him care packages along with hakodas. he was hurt too.

bato remained in the navy, working up the ranks, continuing his service. hakoda never returned. he became a mechanic and opened a shop and took care of his kids along with the help of his mother.

the two kept in touch, but they only spoke once every few months now.

batos ship is attacked. hes injured. it was a horrendous loss for him and his crew. hes too injured to keep fighting and his age is getting to him. hes 39 now. hes not the same 20 something he was when he met hakoda during bootcamp. the navy gives him an honorable discharge and a medal of honor.

bato returns home and realizes he doesnt really have anyone. his parents are long gone. he doesnt have a spouse or kids. his friends from highschool and college all moved away and his friends from the navy were either dead or serving.

except hakoda.

so bato reaches out and asks if it would be alright if he stayed with his family for a little bit while he figures out his next steps. obviously hakoda agrees.

so bato stays over, sokka and katara love seeing uncle bato again. they ask him about everything they missed since dad and him stopped skyping.

hakoda feels guilty for how much they drifted apart, but he still felt as if bato was his best friend. bato felt jusy as guilty for the lack of closeness, but at least hakoda was still there for him.

over time bato and hakoda start feeling weird around each other. every casual touch feels weighted. every look feels purposeful. every word spoken has underlying meanings.

the weirdness they feel are fucking crushes but theyre both middle aged men who forgot how those worked.

eventually katara and sokka talk with bato and are like... are you. like... into our dad?

bato is like what? no!

sokka and katara just look at eachother and then back to bato and say “yes you are. and hes into you too. i just think youre dumb”

harsh words from a 12 and 14 year old but alright.

bato talks to hakoda about it and realizes that they do in fact love each other.

and bato never moves out.

look. ive never read the comics. i dont intend to. ive seen ppl say good things and bad things and im honestly too scared to even read them at this point. but i do know that there is a half sister named kiyi and DAMMIT IF IM NOT GONNA FUCKIN RUN WITH THAT.

think of it: middle child azula.

OH MY GOD. middle child azula. this is her chance to be free.

its an azula redemption fic because yeah she did some fucked up shit but at the same time she was an abused child. she deserved a chance at a better life. so fuck yeah. azula redemption.

azula had been going to therapy and speaking with zuko and iroh and trying to rebuild her relationships with them. mai and ty lee came by to see her a couple of times over the years but it was still hard. its been a few years after the war, but she finally feels ready to return home. zuko is waiting for her at the palace with mai ty lee and iroh.

as well as ursa ikem and kiyi.

azula knew the three of them would be there. but she has no idea how yo respond. she is stiff and awkward and people are concerned that shes angry because her face is doing that weird thing where she crunches her eyebrows (let it be known that in my head azulas confused, conflicted, anxious, and angry faces are literally all the same face. she has one facial expression and its 🤨)

look idk shit ab yhe comics so for this fics sake this is the first time azula and kiyi ever meet. idk if thats right or not in canon but fuck canon this is mine.

kiyi is VERY excited to meet azula. azula is like who tf is this kid.

azula and kiyi bonding. azula reconnecting with her mother and trying to rebuild a relationship with her. azula interacting with ikem and finally having a real father figure (she just didnt connect with iroh the way zuko did)

but the best part: kiyi is her younger sister.

which means everyone still babies her. azula thought shes be the one getting babied because of her past, but nope. they know shes an adult now and they believe in her progress. so everyones always paying attention to little 10 year old kiyi (idk her age go away nothing matters)

on the flipside, if they arent worried about kiyi theyre worried about zuko. zuko is now in his 20’s or whatever and is still trying to dissolve the monarchy but bla bla bla ppl are giving him a hard time so everyones concerned that hes too stressed.

sure they still care about axula. they dont ignore her. but no one is there to criticize her imperfections anynore. no one expects her to come up with flawless invasion plans anymore. no one expects her to look perfect at all times. no one expects her to keep her mouth shut unless asked to speak. no one expects her to be perfect.

and azula finally feels free. she feels free to do her little sisters hair and laugh about her silly crushes at school. she feels free to paint with her brother and not let herself compare whos art is better. she feels free to just have fun with mai and ty lee by seeing plays and going out and having fun instead of hunting down avatars.

azula isnt in the spotlight anymore. and she couldnt be happier.

sokka is a movie director. he is precise in his execution and his films are brilliant. oscar winning. sokka is a big deal. sokka is also constantly stressed out of his mind. he loves his job, he really does. but none of the goddamn writers in this town are any good anymore. every new script he recieves is either poorly written with a good premise that sokka has to do numerous edits on with the writers until its worth something or just complete and utter garbage that cant be saved.

enter zuko.

zuko has been trying to get someone to read his scripts for ages. but its hard to break into the business unless you know someone. one night while drinking in a bar, he meets this girl katara and becomes fast friends with her and her boyfriend aang. they ask him what he does and he mentions that he wants to be a screenwriter, but no one will give him a chance because hes a literal nobody.

aang and katara are like oh wow thats so interesting! can we read ur manuscript?

zuko is a bit wary to share his script with someone else, because this is LA. who knows if these two will try and steal his idea from him.

but theres something about kataras knowing smile and aangs excited eyes that make him think “sure why not”

they exchange numbers and emails and he lets them read the manucript.

three weeks later, katara calle zuko and asks if he wants to hang out. zuko is a little wary because they havent seen each other in person since that night at the bat but theyve been texting pretty regularly, as have he and aang, so he figures why not. itll be good for him to have friends in this town.

katara tells him to meet her at her apartment so they can leave together to meet up with aang somewhere.

when he shows up to meet katara shes not alone.

no. she is definitely not alone.

sokka, one of zukos favorite directors, is sitting right next to her on the couch.

apprantly hes her brother.

apparantly he loved zukos script.

apparantly it was the best writing he has seen in ages.

toph wants a pet. shes always wanted one. she didny care if it was a cat or a dog or a lizard or a walrus. she just wanted a pet.

but her parents always said no. they were too overprotective and thought a pet would be dangerous. they did however get her a fish.

she hated that dumb fish. whats the point of having a pet you cant see or play with that dies within a week?

once toph finally moved out and began living in an apartment with her new roommate katara she thought about pets again.

specifically: a snake.

for some reason snakes appealed to her the most. she liked the way they felt when she got to pet their scaly skin at the zoo. she thought the way sokka described them as “big ass murder noodles” was also hilarious.

aang is at a party with his friends haru and teo. its his first college party and hes very excited. too excited. its also his first time really drinking and poor sweet innocent aang has one too many cups of jungle juice.

at the party he meets the most gorgeous girl in the world. he talks with her. he dances with her. he thinks shes super pretty. he remembers walking her home. he remembers that her favorite color was sky blue and that she loved crunchy peanut butter.

but the next morning he cannot for the life of him remember her name.

hes going crazy. he texts all of his friends asking if they know the girl from the party. he cant stop thinking of her. she was nice and funny and he wants to see her again properly. he wants to make a better impression of himself. he wants to take her on a real date and sweep her off her feet.

no one knows who the girl is.

aang gives up on having his friends find her so he tries instagram. he tries snapchat. he tries to find this girl anywhere he can. but he doesnt know too many people yet and cant find her anywhere.

upset and semi-heartbroken he goes to take a post-hangover shower, and when removing his sweatshirt he sees all of the sharpie written on his body.

hes got a dick drawn on his left arm and a phone number on his right with the word ‘katara’ under it (along with many other weair drawing, things like ‘i love to pee in my pants’ and many many poorly drawn dicks. never trust a teenager with a sharpie kids)

he texts the number and assumes katara must be the girls name.

she is indeed the girl from the party.

they do indeed meet up again and aang does indeed make a better first impression.

mai and sokka are roommates. sokka is unlucky in love. literally has the worst luck possible. he tries relationships and they fail. he gets cheated on. he grts dumped. half the time the other person hust wants a one night stand.

mai feels for him she really does. but shes also annoyed at just how often he tries again. she always ends up ‘sexiled’ as she likes to call it.

this time sokka asks for mai to leave, but only until 10. he thinks that if he doesnt imply that sex is on the table he might have better luck with actually dating someone for real.

mai agrees since shes able to come back home at night and sokka seems happy and he promised to get her take out as thanks.

on her way back shes walking down the street to their apartment complex and bumps into the most gorgeous woman ever. mai doesnt flirt but hey: this girl is gorgeous. they exchange numbers and start dating.

mai comes home and sokka is sulking but he forsnt seem too sad. he informs mai that the girl was a lesbian and thought sokka just wanted yo hang out since they knew each other already from talking yo each other at the tea shop. sokka says hes upset that he didnt get a successful relationship but hes still happy because now he has a new friend and theyre gonna hang out again.

jet and zuko are best friends. they didnt get along very well in highschool, seeing as theyre schools were rivals and they were both of their baseball teams captains. but they wound up going to the same college and playing for the same team and oh would u look at that theyre besties now ur honor.

anyways. jet works at the jasmine dragon with zuko and iroh. hes basically one of them. jet doesnt really have any real family anymore, but zuko and iroh took him in anyways (much to azulas chagrin. she hates jet. hes messy and eats her cereal).

jet loves working at the jasmine dragon because hes always in the back making pastries while zuko is the face of the store: taking orders, making tea, all that good stuff.

this is great for jet because he always gets to listen to iroh trying to set his nephew up with someone in yhe store even though zuko hates it. zuko hates jet for laughing at him and assures him that one of these days irohs gonna get him too.

jet doesnt believe him.

until zuko has to take off work because hes sick.

jet covers his shift. iroh goes off.

luckily for him, the first girl iroh talks to about jet is absolutely gorgeous (hi jin)

jet does ask her out and she accepts.

jin is great. jin is loud and confident and funny and opinionated. she pushes jet to be his best self and she says he does the same for her (jet argues that shes definitely way better than him and jin just says i know but ur still cool i guess)

soon enough jin and jet are the newest topic of gossip at the tea shop.

jin and jet also team up with iroh in their attempts to set up zuko with someone (and jin has plenty of new candidates to volunteer from her group of friends) ((if zuko ends up taking jins quiet friend song on a date a few weeks later than thats his business))

okay first up on the list: sukka

bear with me this is all just the background info because this is a fic i started MONTHS ago but gave up on. its a five n one fic but heres all the relevant background info:

suki and sokka met their freshman year of highschool. suki was an annoying know it all of a freshman (hello im projecting onto suki here) and hahn was the sexist jerk who say behind her. sokka was hahns best friend and followed him around like a little puppy. suki knew that sokka was just repeating everything hahn told him ab women but sokka took it and ran with it to look cool for his friends.

naturally, suki and sokka do not get along. suki constantly calls out hahn for his bullshit, sokka defends him, and sokka and suki get into fights while hahn sits back and watches. its even worse because suki and sokka see each other everywhere. student council. musical rehearsal. his hockey practice is right across the street from her job. they are on the same coed soccer and track teams. they have the same classes. they literally are always around each other.

sophomore year comes around and sokkas no longer friends with hahn. partly because his arguments w suki got him to realize he was being sexist. partly because hahns a dick. partly because hahn tried hitting on his girlfriend yue.

sokka apologizes to suki for freshman year and suki is like its fine i got too heated sometimes too and sokka was like well yeah if i were you id wanna rip my head off too dont apologize. suki and sokka are kinda sorta friends now.

junior year yue moves away and sokka is really upset about it. they broke up because they felt they were too young for long distance but it still hurt. suki along with the rest of sokkas friends (sup gaang) are there for him. suki and sokka are friends but they still arent super close yet.

OKAY NOW ONTO THE FIC ITSELF (im so sorry for long posting but i love sukka)

5&1

5 times sokka drove suki home and one time suki drove him

1st ride: sokka offers to drive suki home from a club meeting after overhearing her talking to toph about how her cars in the shop and her mom cant get her until an hour after the meeting ends. she accepts and they drive together. theyve hung out before in group hangs n stuff but theyve never rlly been just the two of them. its nice. sokkas a fast talker and gets very animated and invested in their conversations. they dont wanna stop talking so they just keep driving around town, never too far away from sukis house, for an hour before finally dropping her off.

2nd ride: similar story as before. suki needs a ride home and sokka offers. theyre convo is still very fun and interesting but a lot of the trip this time is actually them just singing songs in the car together and just jamming out. sokka tells suki that her voice is rlly good. suki never heard sokka sing before because he only did tech for shows, but hes not half bad himself. will suki start imagining singing duet with him after this ride? no absolutely not. will sokka? yes absolutely. (jk they both think ab it sukis just in denial)

3rd ride: at this point suki has stopped driving her own car to school and instead has her mom drop her off. her mom doesnt mind, she likes getting to talk to her daughter in the morning (and she knows damn well shes got a crush on that boy who drives her home) and sokka just asks her if she needs a ride, he doesnt wait for her to ask him first anymore. this talk is fun but more serious. sokka keeps asking about suki and her identity as bisexual. suki thinks hes gonna be weird about it but then during a lul in conversation he admits that he thinks hes bi too. lots of comfort. yes ik im projecting onto suki in this fic but this car ride wouldve been MAJOR projecting onto sokka time ayoooo.

4th ride: suki is at a party and hahn is there and sokka isnt and suki is getting pissed off by hahn and wants to leave but she cant drive herself home. she calls sokka and he comes to get her even though its way too late. shes a little drunk still and tells sokka ab hahn being a dick. sokka wants to turn around and “talk to him” but suki is like shut up sokka youd lose that fight and sokka laughs and says not with u by my side to back me up. suki doesnt know if shes drunk or something still but sokka looks really good under the light of the streetlamps they drive past.

5th ride: suki has taken it upon herself to refer to sokka as her chauffeur since he drives her everywhere now. he rolls his eyes and grumbles about it but he always assures her that he doesnt care and that he likes their car rides together. its towards the end of the year and prom is coming up and neither of them have a date. sokka hatches the perfect plan and instead of walking with suki to his car from the school, he tells her to meet him there instead because he has to talk yo a teacher abouy something (lies he got out of class early cuz mr piandao is the goat and sokka needs to set up). when suki gets to his car hes got a whole promposal set up and is holding a sign that says “i know im an excellent driver, but lets get a real chauffeur for once. prom?” and of course she says yes.

suki didnt want a chauffeur for prom. instead she offered to drive the two of them there instead. sokka keeps making jokes about how hes terrified to be in a car with her because of how much katara has complained about sukis driving (i drive fast so suki drives fast deal with it) theyre on their way back from a prom after party and suki is taking sokka home. its quiet and peaceful but sokka wont stop staring at her. “what” she asks “nothing. youre just... really.. pretty. i guess.” hes so awkward. poor kid is so flustered but suki likes it. “yeah ur not to bad urself” “i really like you suki” “i like me too” “im serious” “i know sokka” “so what do you think?” she can see hes nervous now “i thought you were supposed to be smart. im surprised you didnt notice how much u like you too.” “wait really?” his eyes light up “of course dumby. i literally stopped driving to school as an excuse to hang out with you more” smoocie smoocie ensues.

okay so its ba sing se

jet is still scoping out lee and mushi because he thinks that theyre firebenders except in this au he actually hangs out in the tea shop (much to zukos annoyance because zuko knows what jet is doing but jet is acting like hes innocent af (hes not hes so fuckin suspicious lmao zuko knows exactly what jet is doing)) they have a weird friendship cuz like they both are sus of the other but they both have to pretend to be friends.

anyways jin comes in. shes a regular. she hasnt spoken to either of the boys yet. so this time iroh suggests to zuko that he asks out jin and jet is right there and is laughing at how red zukos face gets and then zuko (like the little shit he is) is like “actually uncle,,, i think jet should ask her out. considering hes got a massive crush on her. why else would he be here so often?” and iroh is like “nephew thats brilliant” and practically shoves a startled jet over to her table.

jet is thinking to himself ‘i cant let mushi know im here for him and not some girl. fuck you lee.’ and figures he may as well ask her out. one date wont hurt. shes kinda cute. she seems nice. whatever no big deal.

except its the best date of his life. jin is funny and sarcastic and makes him think.

so he asks her out again.

and again.

and again.

and she helps him see that he doesnt need to fight anymore. he doesnt need to be a hero. he deserves to have fun and be a teenager and live his life and hes finally safe enough to do that.

so jet gives up on trying to figure out lee and mushi.

he still helps the gaang and he never dies in the catacombs. he ends up leaving ba sing se with the gaang and jin and becomes confrontational towards zuko at the southern air temple because he knew he right all along. jin is confused and they explain everything and long convos need to happen.

eventually jet and zuko get past their differences and (begrudgingly) become friends. theyre mean as shit to each other tho but now in a friend way.

the freedom fighters origin story that we deserve.

ft. trans girl smellerbee (ik its kinda implied in canon but i rlly do not know if thats confirmed by anyone so here i am confirming it), found family, and lots of hurt and i guess a little comfort (yk. as a treat.)

jet was a happy kid. he had a baby sister. he had two parents that loved him. he had friends. he had a house. he had a lake near his town that was safe to play in. he had everything a ten year old boy could want in life.

but the fire nation took all of that away from him.

he and the other kids of the town were playing in the lake when suddenly they heard a thundering noise. a muffler voice. burning. screaming.

they kids ran through the forest by the lake to see what was happening in the town. they saw the fire nation coming to take over. they hid behind the trees like they were told to do if this ever happened to them.

jet was scared, but when he saw the village on fire he didnt want to hide. he had a baby sister and a mother and a father in his house. he ran through the streets trying to find them: but his house was burning. his house had collapsed. he started yelling for his family, hoping that they had made it out.

someone grab him and ran with him. it was one of the old men who came by once a week to deliver fresh goods to the marketplace, today mustve been delivery day.

the man ran with jet and they escaped the village together.

jet never knew what happened to his family.

the man takes jet in and lets him live with him until he dies. the man is old but he gave jet everything he needed. jet was 11 when he died. and now he was alone again. the man was a bright spot for jet for the one short year they had together, and jet would remember him throughout his journey (im sorry he doesnt have a name i havent done research for this bad boy yet)

jet begins to wander the earth kingdom, he comes across different people who let him stay for a few nights before he leaves again. he begins to see even more of the damage created by the fire nation and gets angry. they took his family and now they try and take everyone else too?

jet is 12 when he tries joining the earth kingdom army. they laugh in his face. hes a nonbender! hes twelve! hes a weak runt of a boy! no one wants him.

fine he doesnt need the stuck up army anyways.

hes in the woods late one night trying to find some berries to eat. suddenly hes struck in the arm with a bow n arrow. a boy his age comes running out, hes covered in mud and leaves and almost blends into the woods entirely.

the boy helps jets wound and apologizes for shooting him, he saw movement and thought it was a deercat.

this is how jet meets longshot.

the two stick together and meet new friends on the way. they meet pipsqueak when trying to rob a cruel and wealthy mayor of a struggling earth kingdom town. they meet smellerbee when fighting yhe fire nation troops in a town close to his own home. they find the duke when stealing clothes for smellerbee.

yeah. found family. lots of character study type writing would go into this one but if i were to ever write this i would want it done right and idk if i could pull that off. this would be a BEAST.
