STAR WARS TOP TEN CHARACTERS AND RELATIONSHIPS (PART 3)
7) PADME AMIDALA
Tumblr media
Usually when characters are "TOO GOOD" they end up being unrealistic and unlikable. NOT HER! A queen by election, an uncompromising senator, a great speaker, a true defender of democracy, a politician that fights in the front lines if necessary and definitely the one true fashionista of the Galaxy. Padme, both in stile and principals, reflects all the good and opulence of the High Republic, an age of stability, greatness and awareness in which debate was a preferable weapon to actual weapons even though she had no problems handling a blaster. Even though we are presented with many great politicians throughout the series no one is quite as resourceful or capable as her. Not even the great Bail Organa. She manages to gain and hold the respect of most senators, even her rivals, despite her young age; she brokers seemingly impossible negotiations, at one point almost bringing the Clone Wars at an end via a peace treaty with the Separatist Alliance; with a single speech she stops the production of new clone batches saving the Republic from bankruptcy. And yet, despite all this wisdom and capacity her greatest asset is her pure and kind heart. It's truly heartbreaking that she of all people found herself in such a painful and controversial relationship. Her love for Anakin is ultimately her downfall as she realizes too late how far gone he is. If anyone ever died of heartbreak is her. It seems a contradiction that someone so strong could abandon herself to sadness in such a manner and yet this single weakness makes her all the more precious, pure and beautiful. With her death all the goodness of that age is burried too leaving the Galaxy colder, dimmer and scarier.
8) HERA SYNDULLA & SABINE WREN
Tumblr media
While the entire Specter crew is worthy of the spot, I want to celebrate its queens. I already called Ashoka Togruta pride, but for a species whose females are usually objectified and reduced to cantina dancers, Hera really elevates Twi'leks to the next level. Daughter of a famous and respected leader, Hera inherits that leadership and creates her own rag-tag team to guide the Galaxy towards insurgency against the Empire. It's always a brave decision to stand up against power and tyranny but to do so when one doesn't even know if they're alone in that effort is a titanic feat. Hera leaded the Spectres before the rebel alliance was even formed and had a pivotal role in their operations both as a strategist and an A class pilot. Acting as the mother of the crew she is one of the main reasons the other characters of her team remained alive and bloomed to their full potential. If it wasn't for her, Ezra Bridger wouldn't have joined the fray. Also, she manages to make Han Solo admit that the Ghost is better than the Falcon. Can one blame Kanan for falling head over heels in love with her? And Sabine, well...she is proof that one can be level-headed and hot-headed at the same time. A sassy, trigger-happy, genius, teen Mandalorian with a talent for street art. If you don't love her for this alone then it's definitely all her colors and wicked style that are gonna knock it out of the park. Not only does she change hair-cut and dye each season of "Star Wars: Rebels" she gives her armour a different paint-job too! While Din Djarin's armour is probably the most beautiful and impressive structure and defence wise, Sabine turned hers into a proper masterpiece. Her artistic merits are so good that even art expert Grand Admiral Thrawn wants to collect some of her works. At one point, she wields the dark sabre and manages to unite Mandalorian clans against the Empire's puppet leader. The fact that she had been accepted as a leader by her people but still decided to take a step back and pass the power to older and wiser Bo-katan Kryze is truly a point in her favour. Unforgettable is her relationship with Ezra, built on camaraderie, mutual trust and frienship. Wherever Ezra has ended up Sabine will keep searching for him until he is safely back home.
9) CAPTAIN REX AND THE 501
Tumblr media
The prequel trilogy doesn't really tell us much about the clones and what happened during the years of their faithful service to the Republic before the tragic events of order 66 unfold. Thank goodness a lot of additional material got that covered! (Anyone watching the Bad Batch?!) All clones should be celebrated and mourned but no clone captured the heart more that Cpt./Commander Rex along with all the 501st. legion. The faithful and elite group of soldiers led by Anakin Skywalker and Ashoka has proven itself both in and out of the battlefield. Not only did this squad survive the treacherous General Krell, they managed to win the battle he was actively trying to sabotage, get a full confession out of him and imprison him. Not only this, it was one of the squad members, Fives, that almost uncovered the full plot against the Jedi order designed by Chancellor Palpatine. While all clones regarded each other as brothers there was a special bond that tied the men of this group and its leaders. Rex went to extensive lengths to retrieve his lost companion Echo, a move that Anakin supported; Fives ran to Rex and Anakin to reveal his discoveries and had they all not been interrupted, even in his frenzied state, the two seemed willing to listen to his side of the story. There was a solid complicity and trust between Anakin and his men to the point that he revealed to Rex his secret relationship with Padme (Something he didn't openly speak of even with Obi-Wan and Ashoka) and told him of her pregnancy. In exchange, Rex always trusted his general even when he got them all in the most dangerous and unorthodox situations, looking up to him and regarding him as the best of the Jedi even years after the war had ended (when complimenting Kanan's skills he purposefully underlines that he's still not as good as Skywalker). But the most heartwarming instance of all is when Rex and the 501 greet Ashoka, banished from the Jedi order and the military, with painted helmets to remind of her markings still referring to her as Commander. Rex goes always above and beyond his duty, aiding Ashoka and the rebellion years after being dismissed from service. Even as an old timer, he proves that the new Stormtroopers have nothing on him and that he is truly the ultimate soldier and friend. I only wish he could have met Luke, considering he was one of the very few who knew Anakin was expecting a child and he never realised that Anakin hadn't died at the end of the war but had become Darth Vader.

Note
For the headcanon thing: Ezra, Sabine, Hera, and Kanan (sorry, I know that’s a lot)
Ezra
Headcanon A: Realistic
He has a habit of sleeping curled up, a side effect of living on the streets. Curling up conserved warmth, especially if he didn’t have a blanket
Headcanon B: While it may not be realistic it is hilarious
When he first joined the crew, Zeb wanted to stay on the top bunk, however, when the bolt was lose, he fell. This resulted in Ezra flinging himself to the ground to avoid being crushed...from then on Ezra slept on the top bunk, though Chopper saw the whole thing and used the idea later...
Headcanon C: Heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
After the finale, Ezra has to live on his own (aside from a few animals), and surviving offers it’s fair share of distractions, but at night, when he is sleeping, the reality of everything washes over him. Kanan is gone, his family is out of reach, he’s alone again. At first he reminds himself that Sabine will find him, she will come for him, but that mantra gets old after a while. Let’s just say he falls asleep with tears in his eyes on many occasion. (Also he 100% wonders what would’ve happened if he had tried to save Kanan and/or his parents...)
Headcanon D: Unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
After Ezra comes back, Ryder shows him a holo video. It’s of Mira and Ephriam and little Ezra running around, grinning. Ezra treasures it because it lets him see and hear his parents (he can sometimes hear them in the Force, but this is a constant that he can always turn on), though he still treasures the picture from Sabine
Sabine
Headcanon A: Realistic
When she can’t sleep, Sabine will paint or sketch. It helps get her mind off of her troubles or helps her articulate them. After the finale, there are a lot of sketches of Ezra and Kanan, plus notes on how to help Lothal rebuild and regrow
Headcanon B: While it may not be realistic it is hilarious
She has tried to dye Ezra and Kanan’s hair many times, she even tried to dye some of Zeb’s hair once, though she never succeeded in any attempts, she did however help Ezra cut his hair cause it did NOT look good after he tried to cut it ;p
Headcanon C: Heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
She gets really defensive when someone even suggests Ezra isn’t coming back, because the thought of never seeing her best friend again hurts too much to think about. However, as time goes on, her hope starts wavering and every night she looks up at Lothal’s moons and whispers, “Ezra...where are you?”
Headcanon D: Unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
Sabine didn’t know Ketsu from the academy, she just ran into her and Ketsu saw that she could help her with bounty hunting. Sabine grew to see her as a sister very quickly, which backfired because after only a few months, Ketusu betrayed her (the whole Ketsu thing seemed rushed and confusing with what he learned about Sabine later so just...I don’t know...*flops*)
Hera
Headcanon A: Realistic
She doesn’t get a lot of sleep, it eludes her and she is always thinking of what needs to be done. Because of this, she drinks a loooot of caf and is tired a lot of the time, but she hides it well. Kanan always knew when she needed sleep though and would insist she rest while he took care of whatever needed to be done
Headcanon B: While it may not be realistic it is hilarious
I really can’t think of one...how about the time she found a loth cat in Ezra’s room and promptly told him no pets are allowed on the ship, only for it to backfire when Jacen begs for a pet and his eyes are so big and the cat is kind of cute...
Headcanon C: Heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
Hera continually regrets not looking for Ezra. She already lost one person she loved, she could barely stand losing Ezra too. In a sense she did what Ezra did when he lost his parents, she told herself he was gone so she wouldn’t hope, because she couldn’t face hoping and him never come home.
Headcanon D: Unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
SHE FREAKING HUGS EZRA AND SABINE! She hugs Ezra after he says Kanan is really gone, and they just stand for a moment, taking comfort from each other and mourning together. And Sabine, heck maybe after Ezra disappears they hug each other because they both lost so much
Kanan
Headcanon A: Realistic
He was scared at how quickly he grew attached to Ezra, the last time he felt a connection like that was with Depa, but with Ezra it seemed even deeper. At first, he thought he needed to be wary of growing attached, because that’s how Depa was with him, but it was very hard to do when so much of Ezra’s past reflected his own, and he remembered how he wanted someone to be there for him in the pain. And then Hera reminded him that attachment wasn’t bad, that it made him stronger, and he realized that maybe the Jedi had been wrong on that part of life.
Headcanon B: While it may not be realistic it is hilarious
One day he tries to dissuade Ezra from flirting with Sabine, however, Ezra doesn’t realize that’s what Kanan was trying to do and he ends up copying Kanan’s flirting and using it on Sabine...it doesn’t pan out well...xD
Headcanon C: Heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
Before Jedi Night, he realizes there were so many times he should’ve hugged Ezra or Sabine, or even Zeb or Hera when he didn’t, when he held back. And now facing what he thinks might be his last night, he realizes just how much he didn’t say, but by the time he realizes it, they are on the gliders and he can’t say what he wants to say. He just hopes Sabine and Ezra know how much they mean to him, even if he didn’t get to say it all aloud.
Headcanon D: Unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
He didn’t die, Ezra pulled him out and he ended up being on the ship with Ezra when the Purgil hyperspaced (that’s a word right...) away

Oh Poor Atlas
Fandom: Star Wars Rebels
Words: 1,290
Summary: "He looked to her like the weight of the entire galaxy had been strapped to his back and Hera’s heart ached with sympathy and sadness.“ Kanan has a sad moment. As always, Hera’s there to help.
AO3 | FFN.Net
So I’ve sort of set up a schedule for myself where I post every week. This is something I wrote today and not from the pile of wips I should be working on but ya’know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It was very early in the Ghost’s morning cycle, and Hera was still shaking off the last vestiges of sleep from her lekku on her usual stomp to the ship’s galley for breakfast when she walked into the common room.
The first thing that struck her as the door hissed open was the familiar bitter aroma of caf already hanging in the air. This was unusual, as Hera was always the first of her crew to wake up, and it had long become habit for her to turn on the caf machine for everyone else to follow after.
She stopped in the doorway and scanned the common room, her eyes drawn to Kanan sitting on one of the short stools at the djerlek table, a mug before him with wisps of steam gently twirling out. He was wearing the looser grey pants he only wore to bed and a threadbare black undershirt, and his hair was loose and sleep-trussed. She sighed softly when she took in his dejected body language- the mug was untouched, his shoulders hunched forward and he was leaning over the table with his head in his hands and fingers gripping lightly at the roots of his long brown hair.
He looked to her like the weight of the entire galaxy had been strapped to his back and Hera’s heart ached with sympathy and sadness.
In a way, it was true- he and Ezra had been forced to both drag the weight of the entire Jedi Order behind them and find a way to lift it up again, all the while being hunted down by ISB agents, Inquisitors and Sith Lords. Being a part of the larger Rebellion now only added to that pressure, as while they were no longer scrounging for supplies to barely keep themselves running on Lothal, they were now an important link in a much larger chain, and that came with a huge heaping of extra responsibility that even Hera was starting to feel through the long nights and aching muscles.
She walked into the common room quietly, but not too quiet as to startle the Jedi from his thoughts. Knowing him, he had probably sensed her coming before the door had even opened, but the only acknowledgement he gave of her presence was to rustle out of his statue-like state and reach for his caf mug, leaving one hand in place on his temple.
Hera knew that if it had been Sabine, Zeb, Ezra or even Chopper that had walked in on Kanan like this, the Jedi would have instantly snapped out of whatever funk he was in with a wide grin and a joke. But with Hera, there was no need at all to be guarded; they’d both seen each other at their lowest and highest points over the years. Kanan had been the one to hold her as she sobbed her heart out a few years ago when she received word that members of her extended family had been taken from Ryloth and sold into slavery, and in turn she was there to witness the glowing pride in Kanan’s eyes when he had drunkenly told her over and over again how proud he was of how far Ezra and Sabine had come since they’d joined the Ghost.
This situation before her wasn’t an unusual one- every once in a while Hera knew that Kanan simply became overwhelmed by the suffocating weight of all he had lost and the painful ‘what if?’ of all he could still lose in the future. Hera preferred to push feelings like that into the Ghost and the Rebellion, making sure everything was calibrated to perfection and that missions ran as smoothly as they could. Sabine worked her frustrations out through art and explosions, Zeb through beating up every Stormtrooper within reach and Ezra had a habit of disappearing into vents for hours at a time, although he had been getting better at talking to Kanan and her about his feelings. They all dealt with the pressures of their pasts and the duties of their present in different ways, and that was okay, as long as it never held them down for too long.
Hera knew for a fact that later in the day Kanan would be absolutely fine, and there would be no trace of sorrowful tension in his shoulders when they set out on their planned supply mission.
Still, Hera paused halfway across the room and turned towards him. After a moment’s hesitation, she trod over and draped one arm across his shoulder and the other under his armpit, leaning down to pull him into a tight from-behind hug, snuggling her face into the line of his neck.
Kanan relaxed into her embrace, melting at her touch, and let out a small huff that meant he was smiling. His hair smelt like the cheap shampoo that only he and Ezra used (Zeb and Sabine both had their own special shampoos, Hera and Chopper had no need for it at all for obvious reasons) and she breathed it in deeply. It smelt like safety and familiarity and Kanan.
She grinned widely, struck suddenly by an idea, and pushed her lips to his skin as though to kiss it. Instead, with a ‘pfffbbbt’ she blew a playful and wet raspberry against his neck.
Kanan spluttered, and jerked so hard in surprise that several splashes of caf spilled out from his mug.
“Hey!” he cried.
“No sulking allowed on my ship!” Hera teased, pulling him back in and moving to kiss his cheek.
Kanan’s response was a noise of mock affront, and when he turned his face to her, Hera caught his lips with her own to abruptly shut him up. Both their eyelids fluttered closed.
“As you wish then, Captain,” Kanan said flirtingly when they broke apart. There was a blush on his cheeks and he cocked his ridiculously shaped eyebrows at her. She rolled her eyes back at him.
“Ugh,” came another voice, and they both turned to the door to see Sabine shuffling in on a beeline to the galley, wearing her tie-dye sleep shirt and pants and with her dark blue and turquoise hair on end. “You two are so gross, get a room.”
“We are in a room,” Kanan shot back amusedly, gesturing around them.
“Ugh,” was all Sabine seemed to dignify as a response.
As the teenager began rattling around in the galley, Hera withdrew her arms from around Kanan’s neck and took a step back, still keeping one hand supportingly on her Jedi’s shoulder. Kanan took a moment to contemplate the coffee spill on the djerlek table before straightening up and swivelling around on the stool to look directly at her. His eyes shone with an intimate gratitude and love, while a half-sad grin tugged at his lips.
Hera gave him a half-smile of her own in return, giving  his shoulder a final squeeze that spoke more than she could ever say with words, before ghosting her hand across his cheek and then pulling away entirely to follow Sabine. With the day they had planned, she needed some Force-damned cup of caf just to get started, and it was good that for once that she didn’t need to set the machine up.
“You better clean up that spill. If it leaves a stain, I’ll have your head,” she threw casually over her shoulder. She almost couldn’t contain the grin that tugged at her lips when he mockingly saluted in response. Already, it was impossible to tell that he had only moments ago been drowning in his own thoughts.
He’ll be okay in the end, Hera thought a bit later as she absently stirred sugar into her cup. We all will.
This is 1000% inspired by this post. It’s just *clenches fist* so cute.
