I will gladly say free Palestine from the river to the sea. I do not support orgs like J Street and even IfNotNow makes me uncomfortable (literally discomfort. Not saying they're bad people. Not everything is a condemnation.)

I am not here to do PR for JVP and other antizionist orgs that do fundraising thru partnerships, but:

a) JVP is like BLM with how little the chapters that actually do things are connected to national. Some figurehead who has no control over local chapters and who local leadership don't even know should not discredit an entire network of orgs that have been doing good work for a long time. They may not be rad enough for you but they are not Zionist. If they were they'd be under the ALLMEP/JStreet umbrella with Roots and Standing Together and they very much are not.

I also can't believe this needs stating, but JVP absolutely goes to non-JVP/non-Jewish-led actions. They go to far more Palestinian-led demonstrations than they attend ones they start. They do it all the time and have since they started. I never thought to address the "JVP doesn't join coalitions" point because it's so absurd.

b) Fundraising for Palestinian orgs overseas/Palestinian solidarity orgs in general is not as straightforward as raising funds for your local food bank; there are miles of red tape and fundraising thru partner orgs is just the only option sometimes (many very good Palestinian orgs do this). Even some Israeli orgs need to do this for tax reasons (American Friends of PeaceNow, Friends of Roots, etc.)

c) if you want to go hardcore #notonormalization that's your right but please please go in with open eyes, esp if you're LGBT or an ally. It's not "left of JVP/SJP"; it's its own ecosystem and very right-wing in a lot of ways.

d) In many cities, JVP is the only Palestinian solidarity org that allows membership for people who are not students, Arabs, or Muslims. In my large city, the only other org remotely like that is PSL and that's an org with a huge barrier to entry (lots of time, money for dues, required to align with PSL's beliefs). JVP's membership fees are sliding scale, around $18/yr.

e) "JVP tokenizes Jews!" "JVP doesn't have any Jews in it" please stop swallowing Zionist propaganda; there is no truth in these statements. Just because allies are allowed to support by being members does not mean it's not a Jewish org.

f) JVP is Compromised bc Jonathan Greenblatt said he has plants in there! Yeah, your local SJP chapter probably has cops in it too. Accept that most decently impactful activist spaces may have skeevy people who slipped past your vetting process. Also JVP is very public-focused; they are not super underground. Anyone can go to a public meeting, so Jonathan Greenblatt hasn't achieved much.

Editing to add: No org is perfect, including your/my favorite one. This post never implied that. Criticize away, but please don't lie (eg "JVP is Zionist") and don't assume that social media tells the entire story.

Tim Drake's Mom is actually Lara Croft! AU

After getting pregnant Lara Croft disappears off the face of the earth, takes up a shell company in Gotham left to her by her father, and assumes the identity Janet Drake.

(DC made Timmy's parents archeologists! so Sis it was between Indiana Jones or the Tomb Raider and well here we are!)

Lara Croft has a daring archeological adventure/world saving mission with a dashing man she only knows as N. Drake (if u know u know) and finds out she's pregnant weeks after.

Lara Croft did not expect to be Pregnant. Lara knows that she shouldn't have a baby. She knows this intellectually and emotionally, she doesn't have any family left and after nearly 10 years of traveling the globe and putting herself in life or death situations she knows her life can't accommodate children. Lara knows the responsible thing to do, she makes an appointment with NHS/MSI and focuses on her next project. (TW: Discussion of Abortion)

Lara never gets her appointment. She misses her abortion date in London when she gets caught up in another mad expedition that takes her half way across the world.

On this mission she nearly looses everything, her friends, her own life, what's left of her father's legacy, all for a semi cursed magical artifact that nearly blows up the South American Coast.

Lara's tired, scared, she's been running from Trinity (evil org) for nearly a decade now . She's 29, she's 5 months pregnant, and she's stuck floating on her back in the middle of the South Atlantic sea watching the sky burn.

Lara's rich she could always get the abortion, legally or otherwise, her father left her a billionaire and the souvenirs she'd collected from her travels do nothing but add to that wealth.

Trinity wants Lara Croft dead, they'll never stop chasing, and Lara just wants respite. She wants her quaint childhood in the English countryside with her father, she wants to curl up and sleep for a thousand years. She wants to be someone else, just for a moment.

Her heart beats wildly in her chest and she can almost feel another heart beating alongside it.

Lara Croft makes a decision. She sinks into the sea and doesn't come back up for air even when it burns.

On the shore a nameless woman washes up, water logged and looking for passage to America.

The Croft's have had shell companies for years, one can't be a billionaire these days without at least a few, Medi-industries is an unassuming medical supplier located in Gotham, New Jersey the crime capital of North America. It's the perfect place to disappear.

Janet Drake Lands in Gotham on a gloomy morning in March, she's got enough money to throw around that people forget to ask what family she's from, this is Gotham new money is nearly unheard of.

By mid April Janet has reestablished control of Medi-Industries, Now Drake Industries, and purchased an old English style mansion in Bristol, which the real-estate agent has assured her is a great neighborhood.

Timothy Jackson Drake is born July 19th at nearly 3 in the morning squalling high into the night like a banshee. He is perfectly healthy and perfectly safe in Janet's arms.

It is only in the safety of their home, in the house Janet picked, because it was high on a hill for tactical advantage and had bullet proof glass nestled between quaint wood paneled windows, It is only in the heart of Drake Manor that Lara dares to Whisper her son's name

A family portrait of the Drakes, Including Janet, baby Tim, and a mysterious Jack Drake (who was a very discreet and well paid member of Gotham's theatre society, and who was also more then happy to pose as a rich ladies dead husband for a day)

A Socttish Nanny/Housekeeper with a very keen eye and discreet mouth who will not tell a soul that she is fairly sure she's employed by Lord Richard Croft's, eccentric billionares, missing daughter.

precocious and slightly British accented baby Tim who gets to have his Mom with him for 10 whole years! before she inevitably runs back off to save the world

Tim being unaware of his mother's past life beyond her name until the age of 13 when he becomes Robin and is able to actually find out what his mom's been protecting him from his whole life.

I imagine in this AU that eventually Trinity finally catches wind of where Lara is hiding and she has a big confrontation with them in New Jersey. It's way too close to Gotham and Tim for her comfort, she knows this is the only chance she'll get to control the chaos.

So she packs Tim up to move him into the dorms at Gotham Academy and promises she'll write and be home for his birthday in the summer. After she's finished her "company" business first of course.

Tim's confused but he trusts his mom, he gets unsigned postcards from all over the world and pins them above his bed in the dorm and goes to sleep trying to guess what country she's in every night.

The move to the dorm is kind of cool to Tim as well because it means he can start his plan to follow Batman and Robin in the city! (in this AU there's no way Lara wouldn't have noticed him sneaking out at 9, but Gotham academy security? totally oblivious)

Tim celebrates his 10th birthday with his mom at home, he has so many freaking questions about where she was! and she tells him outlandish stories about daring fights and cursed artifacts that he rolls his eyes at but enjoys none the less.

it isn't till he's 15 that his Robin work and his mom's adventures cross paths.

After so many years of close calls, of hiding bruises from his mom with same concealer she uses to hide her own wounds, of wondering if it was selfish to wish his Mom cared a little bit less about the world and would stay with him for more then a few weeks at a time. Finally it all comes to a head in the worst way. Lara Croft's latest adventure puts her right in the middle of a Bat Level investigation. It has Tim near loosing his mind with worry hoping his mom is alive and Lara having the worst freakout/Blow up of her life realizing her son has been putting himself in Danger every night she thought he was safe.

The Drake/Crofts are messy! Bad at communicating! And unfortunately the exact same kind of reckless and self sacrificing!

Fun food for thought:

Lara canonically is a killer, if you've played any of the reboot Tomb Raider series she can be pretty gruesome and efficient! Very cool! Jason would stan! Tim is kind of appalled! Lara is glad Tim's never killed, that he's never had to.

Lara still dies in this AU but it's in a big Trinity X Obeah Man X Captain Boomerang Cluster fuck where Lara finishes off Trinity and Obeah Man for good but looses her own life in the process. Tim is devastated, he feels like they were just starting to really be 100% transparent with each other before her death. Que Tim's not good very bad year!

preface: This the first time Robin and Lara Croft have ever met/are on the same mission.

" mom!" Tim shouts, running before Bruce can even properly land the BatJet.

The old temple is ablaze, the ancient structure already half crumbled in on itself with what's left of it is spewing out clouds of jet black smoke.

Tim's mother limps out what was once the front entrance clutching at her ribs.

She's filthy, covered in a thick layer of dirt and grime. but she's got on a triumphant smile like the cat who got the cream.

" Mom!" Tim yells again watching as she does a double take at his choice of moniker.

Her mouth twists in a grimace as she stumbles and Tim dives under her arm quickly moving to support her left side.

Lara Croft meets the white lenses of Red Robin's eyes in confusion

" What'd you call me?" She slurs trying to blink away the smoke inhalation that makes it hard to focus and leaves her lightheaded.

Lara's right ankle which took the brunt of a very nasty dive from a very high perch, not 20 minutes earlier as she raced out of the Dead Kings Tomb, finally gives up the ghost and she pitches forward taking Red Robin with her.

He's young, she thinks, he's very young.

Before either of them can hit the ground Batman intercepts their fall hefting Lara into a secure hold.

Red Robin catches himself and latches onto Lara's hand.

He yanks off one of his gloves and tries to wipe some of the grime out of her eyes.

" Mum" he croaks this time, voice breaking nearly in half on the last syllable.

Lara furrows her brow, the cowl covers so much of this young man's face, from his nose too his brow bone, but his chin is startlingly familiar as is his absolutely atrocious British accent.

He reminds her terribly of Timothy.

" Tim" she says deliriously, Lara tries to smile but her eyes start to droop and her head lolls slack against Bruce's arm. She's clean out.

Tim makes an odd lunge and jerk movement pressing his fingers into her carotid artery to feel her pulse.

He's shaking, more wrong footed and anxious then Bruce has ever seen him.

Batman is extremely grateful when Nightwing comes up behind him and gently pulls his younger brother's hands away from his mother's comatose body.

" She's fine Red. We need to get her on board so we can get her some oxygen though, the smoke inhalation is getting to her. "

" Right" Tim says, still frozen in place. He shakes it off quickly " Right." he repeats pivoting in place and leading their small party through the remains of the ruins and back to the jet.

" I'll prep the med bay."

The combo of Ienzo and Vanitas right next to each other in the bottom left corner of the kh 20th anniversary art is so fucking funny to me. like it’s clear Nomura attempted to group together characters in a way that made sense, but the fact of the matter is that there are so many characters in kh and the web of connections is so complicated, and we already know he was doing this at the last minute, so I think he just gave up and dropped anyone he didn’t know what to do with in that corner

like the top half is for the heroes and the bottom half is for the ✨ Evil Gang ✨, with the right side being members from the og organization who were active in kh3, the middle being Nort club, and the left side being the trio of og org members who came back only to pull some traitor shit. and also Ienzo and Vanitas

yeah you could group Ienzo in with the three traitors except he. isn’t one of those. he was in the organization and then he wasn’t and that was that, he didn’t take part in that sneaky double-crossing (ironically enough lmao). he isn’t close enough to any of the protagonists™️ for it to make sense to put him on the top half, but also his identity in the series as Ienzo is so strong at this point that it wouldn’t make sense to put Zexion in the art, and? everyone else he was associated with in kh3? aren’t even represented in the piece so we��ve got one (1) guy wearing white amongst a sea of edgelords. looks weird, doesn’t it? that’s why he’s off in the very corner

and then poor Vanitas really had nowhere to go at all. his closest connection is to Ventus (which was NOT happening) and then after that is Xehanort, who gets to hang out with his fellow norts, so, fuck. in the corner he goes too

and honestly while I’m here I wanna shout out Saïx, who’s so divorced from Lea that he had to be on the complete opposite edge of the piece; Vexen, who’s super tiny and far away compared to everyone else on the bottom half and doesn’t have anyone to mirror him; and Demyx, who. idk. just completes this I think.

🍉 FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA

HELPING PALESTINE

If you think that the only way of helping Palestine is going to a protest, then you're not thinking big enough. While protests are amazing, and we need to keep the pressure on Biden and the other world leaders, here's some things you can do in your daily life that also help.

🍉 Follow the BDS list. I'll link some resources of what not to buy and what is safe. I know this gets confusing, but I'll try to give you all the resources you need to make informed decisions.

🍉 Give money to Palestinian organizations. Just like the BDS list, I'll link all the resources I have. Lots of them are helping on the ground to provide aid and give Palestinians a chance to tell the world whats going on.

🍉 Follow Palestinian journalists. I'll link a lot of them down below, but they are the best way to see what's going on right now.

🍉 Listen to Palestinian people. I'm white, so I only want to use my voice to uplift Palestinian ones in this issue. I will stand hand in hand with them and use my privilege to push them to the forefront, but I never want to to take the spotlight away from them.

🍉 Learn Palestinian History. I'll link some great resources I found that helped me learn the history of the Nakba, the constant degradation of Palestinians by Israel, and why this issue needs to be talked about until Palestine is free.

🍉 Distribute reading materials, zines, stickers, or anything else. It's a great way to spread information and lift up Palestinian voices.

Hi Mara, hope this isn’t too personal, but I was wondering when you first connected with Scientology, as in when did you first take interest in it and find comfort in it?

hi anonymous, good morning;

i first took an interest in scientology after playing archangel:nemesis, & then afterwards talking about early experiences with christianity with a few friends who had also played a:n (each of us having a common experience in being raised in church / christian schools), and then afterwards reading accounts of life in the sea org and taking scientology classes online;

then through a chain of events, i ended up dating (though it barely counts as that, i guess, but i was smitten and ready to move-in) an ex-scientologist; i took a 'pilgrimage' to visit clearwater and the flag service building there, and bought my first Bridge Official New Version Hot copy of Dianetics, and just sort-of loved how special it all felt; it made me think of one of those sea org stories i read about a newly-indoctrinated sea org member arriving at an airport clutching one of those distinct Volcano-Covered books and looking only like a scientologist could;

some of the events around this period are bleary, but god/communication was talking to me through the writing -- it:s bleary, because i don:t really remember / don:t want to comb through my own writing from this time; eventually it culminated in me having a very long vision (which put a big strain on the relationship with my ex) where LRH visited me and explained further outside/inside, and how he had purchased my soul, and how my soul was good purchase because of the source of its material (from that basic quaternal-base / qlippotic-base) to be used as listening device for the scientologist:s "outside church operation" (outside here: outside of the material basic; outside of the observable and the sensible); i keep trying to write this vision as a short story called "spaceship" but keep giving up on it (most recent attempt was just yesterday, incidentally; remembering the vision and how i could word the vision in writing was keeping me up at night the night prior; the lich LRH bent over me and urging me to sign-it and hearing soft rumbling down, down deep in the spaceship; the sky outside just black; his breath was sour and his body was close; and i:d feel the thunder inside the ship carried through the cold chair i were sat in; the room we were in was empty, and shone like a dull silver insect that had lost its luster as if it crawled into shade and chose to remain there to await its death); the vision starts with a lich LRH from billions of years ago, in the ship, at the start of the soul contract, to where my soul were purchased for cheap (i was a janitor aboard the ship & tempted with great importance and service for humanity immortal); and then advances near-present to the outside church--its cathedral-like form, white tiles, blue carpets, niches, occular rooms with portals to a blank black sky (there i:d lay with an outside e-meter (part of the explanation of the soul:s purpose was to liken my soul as being same as the e-meter; as bestial and earthy and under-upper-filament as the e-meter; qlippotic material (and the warning of God to the right-handed) as a bestial material one that will drown in earth with its second death and be granted annihilation, as beasts are, as material are, and not granted heaven as humanity)) that i:d consider a sister or kin, to keep me company in the loneliness of the outside church); then i:d spend years in the halls/staff-rooms of the outside church being given lessons by staff (cold little white rooms, small circular office-tables and little pipe chairs) about the doctrine and purpose and religion; then the now-dead LRH would speak with me, like he were a father but with a certain distance that indicated i were more like a favorite razor or dog than a child, and confess a level of regret about the mistakes some of the past incarnations of LRH had made; i liked him a lot in those moments; then he:d explain to me patternings and context behind events in my life that were used as "programming points of contact" to align me with his purpose/purchase for me (to set me up as a listening device in each life while i was active in-server); part of this were to show me "doors" inside the inside where traumatic events were inserted inside of me (i remember these as being intensely physically painful; he:d walk me through the chambers inside myself and the pain would move with me as we traveled deeper in-to my body, from brain, to groin); then he:d show me the thing i had been praying to--or it shew itself to me; the thing that i call "god" to obscure what i pray to: the material, and the ancestry; it shew itself to me as three forms: the pit of snakes that i saw dying in nightmare as kid; some weird beast monster in the dark; then some feverish red glow in a dark-place that stared at me with a hateful terrifying indifference--that it really did hate me, that i had been misled into praying and selling my soul to something truly callous and malicious and that sought only my death: and that i had to trust in my love for it, despite the terror, and keep praying to it;

~etcetera; i stopped talking/writing about scientology much because 1) i got tired of people seeking out scientology through me; 2) i couldn:t join an org if i wanted; 3) i wanted to connect more with adventism since i had grown up with it & god began talking to me once more through the voice of EGW & thought it sign that i need to graft "the word" of god on-to the writing of EGW to carry it further, and to map a blueprint for a clean, sane, division of chiral life through that grafting (ie: the gracecon story as a blueprint for segregrating life for left-handed and right-handed persons).

still, i always get a special fluttery feeling seeing the dumb volcano or the big HUBBARD name;

Okay just because this has been on my mind for weeks now. You should never have to choose between food and rent. One, if such a choice comes up, always choose rent, obviously. BUT if not being able to afford food is the problem, there are options. Sorry this post got so long it wasn’t meant to..

Apologies in advance I only know how this works in America, but it’s likely your country has something similar. What you’ve gotta do for this is go to your state government page and find your state’s food assistance program, SNAP, Food Stamps, whatever it is, find that and apply. You’ll probably get around $250 a month for a single household. If you’re low income, you should be eligible. If you’re on SSI/SSDI or Medicaid, you are almost certainly eligible. On top of that you gotta find a local food bank. They might ask you for your income, but they likely won’t bar you from their services if they’re a good food bank. This is a good place to get any kind of canned food and pasta, but good food banks will likely also have meat, eggs, and milk. A lot of food banks have even started delivering straight to your home. I’ve also worked with a lot of Churches to get food. I’m sure plenty of Synagogs and other religions orgs have similar programs, but it depends on how well funded they are.

Use any money you save from this for your fresh produce, but I recommend getting frozen vegetables as they have just as much nutrients as fresh produce would. I also recommend getting an instant pot or slow cooker if you can afford it. Thrift stores might have some that still work decently. I got my instant pot and my slow cooker second hand from family members so I got lucky, but if you can afford them they’re seriously a life saver.

My biggest recommendations of food to keep on hand is bread and stuff you like on sandwiches, always have eggs, always have rice, and always have some frozen vegetables. Invest in spices wherever you can, you can make a lot or really delicious meals that are super simple just by having some good seasonings. If you get on food assistance, spices are covered by that, basically everything consumable is except alcohol.

Spices I recommend to keep on hand: Sea Salt, Black Pepper, Basil, Thyme, Oregano, Ginger, Red Pepper, Garlic, Onion, any Umami/Mushroom Blend, Rosemary, Marjoram, Sage. That’s everything I use for 90% of my meals.

Also grow your own food! Mainly herbs! The easiest one to start with is green onions, you can buy some from the store, put the bottoms in a small cup with just enough water to reach the roots, let the roots grow a bit then put them in soil after about a week. Basil, thyme, parsley, and rosemary are my other favorites to grow. You can get a devoted pair of kitchen scissors to just cut your herbs directly into whatever you’re cooking! If you have enough space and time on your hands I really recommend growing tomatoes and bell peppers!! Feel free to ask me about gardening!

My Favorite Easy Meals:

Spaghetti with meat sauce: Get canned tomato sauce and diced tomatoes, mix those in a pan and add as many spices as you want until you like the flavor, you can look online for common spaghetti sauce seasonings. Get some ground beef (btw meat can be frozen indefinitely) and cook that up then throw it in your sauce. Cook noodles while you’re doing that, the whole process shouldn’t take more than an hour if you have an extra pair of hands, hour and a half if you’re by yourself at max.

Teriyaki Chicken: Easiest thing ever, just buy some chicken strips and some teriyaki sauce, marinate that shit then pop it in the oven for like around 20min or until it’s cooked to 165°F.

Egg Fried Rice: One of my favorite easy meals. Pop the (WASHED!!) rice in an instant pot or rice cooker (if you don’t have either a pot with a lid will work fine!), toss in about a tablespoon of mirin in with your rice then let it do it’s thing following instructions. About 15min before your rice is done throw some frozen vegetables in a pan (whatever kind of vegetables you like!! It really doesn’t matter!) cook those a little, put em aside in a bowl. Then take some eggs, scramble em in the same pan, put aside. Throw your cooked rice in the pan then add soy sauce, red pepper, umami blend, and any other spices you’d like (but no salt! There’s plenty of sodium in the soy sauce!).Then add your ingredients you put to the side. If you add enough eggs or are just tired, this can be it’s own meal! Or you can have it as a side with teriyaki chicken or anything else you think it’d taste good with!

Ramen: Get a bunch of packs of cheap ramen noodles but don’t use the soup packet. Make your own soup with any kind of broth (chicken or seafood works best, but just pick a favorite), add a tablespoon of soy sauce to a cup of broth, a teaspoon of mirin to cup of broth, some minced ginger (or powered) to taste, any spices you want (I like to add the mushroom blends and some seaweed flakes), cook the noodles for the recommended time in the broth then add an egg cooked in any style you want. You can get fancy with a soft boiled egg, but those take a while to learn to get right. I normally fry my eggs. And if you have any ham or beef strips those also go good with it! Top it with green onions! Takes about 45 minutes roughly.

Omelet: Whisk some eggs in a cup and add some spices (and fresh green onions if you want!), throw it in a pan, add any cheese, meat, or veggies you like on it (I like cheddar, bell peppers, and bacon in mine) then wait for it to cook on one side then fold it in half, after it’s cooked on one of the half sides, flip it over to get the other side, you can stab it in the middle to see if it’s fully cooked in the center. Takes less than 20 minutes.

Buttered Potatoes: You can get some small potatoes, cut em up, throw them in an oven-safe dish with some butter (1/4-1/2 a stick depending on how many potatoes you’re making), salt, rosemary, and black pepper. Cook them in the oven on like 350°F for about 25-30min. You can use this as a side with any kind of meat or anything else you feel it’d go good with! Sometimes it just makes a good snack as leftovers.

Things you can cook up and add to other stuff: cook a bunch of bacon and you can crumble it into stuff like omelets, mac ‘n cheese, salads!

I do all this and never spend a penny from my paycheck on my food! Good food is obtainable! Look online for more recipes or try and use some of these methods to enhance a simple recipe you already know!

And remember to fight to keep food assistance programs open and available! It’s an insanely valuable resource for folks in poverty! If your local government acts against these programs, speak up against them! If you can, please donate to your food bank and ask them what kind of food they need. Volunteer with them also if you can!

Newfound interest: scientology 😭😭😭

It's absolutely fucking absurd

I have read some of their secret documents too, about the different "OT" (Operating thetan) levels. 😌 the ones that are usually hidden and revealed on their flagship "Apollo" (I think). Some of it isnt directly copied but remembered by members who saw the documents first-hand.

I am learning about engrams and e-readers and clears and pre-clears and Xenu/Xemu ofcourse. Apparently "body thetans" is not something you learn about in detail until you are on OT level 3!! Body thetans are ofcourse the brainwashed souls of billions of aliens murdered by hydrogen bombs around volcanoes. 😀😀😀 absolutely bizzarre religion. Basically the lived past trauma of these aliens can rub off on you and through auditing you can get rid of your past trauma as well as remove them from you, basically being an operating thetan means that you are a thetan unburdened by the other thetans (I think) and you are "operating" your body, but at this stage you could operate with or without a flesh vessel. Something about being a high-stage OT means you can manipulate space, time, energy and matter apparently and according to wikipedia they also believe you can create your own universes but I am yet to understand what they mean by that properly. I think its done through similar processess as auditing but it might be self-done and without the auditer, I'm unsure. Either way all of it is incredibly odd.

In the secret documents there are apparently text about telepathic communication with body thetans but I am yet to find or read that part.

it's a lot of info and a lot to understand 😭 Its too much to keep track of so if I misremember something I'm sorry. I am planning to read through all the important and/or interesting parts of all the technical bulletins of dianetics and scientology (as well as the 14th volume which is the secret one, not available in your average scientology church, but on the previously-mentioned sea-org boats. This project will probably take a while lol because its a whole lot of texts and the hubbard himself made hundreds if not thousanda of audio lectures too. I might keep updating this blog on further interesting info or just what I'm reading about, so if you find this intriguing do follow and if you have any recommendations for texts to read or videos to watch I'd be happy to hear about it!! L. Ron Hubbard released a fuckton of books and I won't read them all because I am a pretty slow reader and most of it is just pseudo-scientific nonsense about his alternate psychology.

1949-2003

SCIENTOLOGIST WHO WAS MURDERED BY HER SON

Elli Perkins was a Scientologist who worked as a senior auditor inside the Church of Scientology in Buffalo, New York and also worked as a professional glass artist.

Perkins was married to Don Perkins and they had two children. Their son Jeremy, aged 24 started showing disturbing behaviour and started hearing voices. Jeremy didn’t get the professional psychiatric care that he needed, as Scientology is against its members using medication and seeing psychologists. Instead, they sent him to Sea Org in California to get help which failed and he was returned to his parents. Jeremy’s condition became so bad he could no longer work. The Church of Scientology classified him as Level III ‘Potential Trouble Source’ and his mental illness exhausted all their efforts to cure him and instead they banned him.

In 2001, Jeremy was arrested for trespassing at a University in Buffalo and he was placed inside a hospital and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Elli asked the court to place Jeremy into her care and she became his carer. Elli sought out alternative methods for treatment. A Scientologist doctor suggested that he should take vitamins and an executive director of Scientology suggested she should give Jeremy more work to do around the house to tire him out.

On 13 March 2003, Jeremy’s parents agreed that he should stay with Scientologist Albert Brown for treatment and he was to leave that afternoon. That morning Elli told Jeremy to take a shower, when he came out of the shower he found his mother in the kitchen talking on the phone. He grabbed a knife and killed his mother with it. He later stated that because he couldn’t take his own life, he decided to take his mother’s instead. He said that he believed his mother was evil, that she gets mad at him when he plays the drums, makes him take vitamins and when she told him to take the shower that morning that was the ‘last straw’. Jeremy was placed into professional care (outside of Scientology) and put on medication which improved his condition.

After the murder, the TV program 48 HOURS aired a segment on Perkins death which received complaints from Scientologists.

TL;DR Reem Abdellatif is an antisemite, conspiracy theorist, and transphobe. Nobody should treat her as an authority on anything. She’s also not Palestinian. She is Egyptian and lives in LA. Most Israelis are not dual citizens and are not eligible for dual citizenship. Shoresh is anti-Zionist org for Israelis in the US. Plenty of its members do not have US/other dual citizenship. Requiring them to renounce their Israeli citizenship would render them unable to leave Israel, unable to “just leave” like Reem and her peers want.

Please do your own digging before accepting someone's evaluation of an org, including my own.

Moving on. Israel, dual citizenship, and Shoresh. I can't find the specific comment you're talking about, so I'll talk about the general ideas instead.

Israel is absolutely privileged by the US, not just by $4 billion/year for military aid, but also because Americans can serve in the Israeli military without consequence. Israel also allows dual citizenship for new (Jewish) immigrants, so an American Jew relocating to Israel keeps their US citizenship.

Israel’s Jewish Israeli population is 9 million. Depending on your source, between 300,000 and 1 million Jewish Israelis have dual citizenship with another country. Around 200,000 of them are US-Israel dual citizens. This means over 8 million Jewish Israelis do not have dual citizenship. Say for the sake of argument another 2 million Israelis have an easy way to get citizenship in another country. That still leaves 6 million Israelis who do not have dual citizenship.

Most American Jews (by birth and by practice–born Jews who convert to other religions are not eligible) are eligible for Israeli citizenship, but this does not mean they actually have Israeli citizenship.

If you renounce your Israeli citizenship, you lose your Israeli passport. Stating the obvious just in case it’s necessary.

Thus, if your only possible nationality is Israeli, if you renounce your Israeli citizenship, you become stateless and cannot travel anywhere, including “just leaving” Israel.

People saying “omg just leave” are understandable, coming from a place of pain, but it is not a statement that could apply to most Jewish Israelis. Again, this is hypothetical.

It would be interesting to see what percentage of antizionist Israelis have dual citizenship and what percentage do not, but I don’t have a way to find that out.

Shoresh is an organization for anti-Zionist Israelis living in the USA. Per their own description “We are a movement of anti-Zionist Israelis in the U.S. for freedom and justice for all from the river to the sea.” https://www.instagram.com/shoresh_us/ This is the section most prone to errors as I don’t know a ton about this organization. As with previous posts, I am not here to do PR for this org.

Shoresh is an anti-zionist organization. This is a big deal in the Jewish world. Even some anti-occupation orgs won't use the label "anti-Zionist" but JVP and Shoresh both do. Good for them.

Shoresh allows activists to protest in the USA in ways that they could not under the current Israeli regime.

Shoresh is not exclusively Israelis with US citizenship. It is simply a group of “Israelis in the US.”

Thus much if not most of Shoresh’s membership is not capable of renouncing their Israeli citizenship because they are not dual citizens. If most of Shoresh is dual citizens (no way of telling,) they still do not restrict their membership to dual citizens. Some still wouldn't be able to renounce.

Even if all of Shoresh renounced their citizenship, they would lose their ability to leave Israel.

Israeli passport holders can stay in the USA for a max of 6 months unless they have a work or student visa.

Thus, “Everyone in Shoresh should renounce their Israeli citizenship and never return to Israel” doesn’t really work.

It would still be powerful if the members of Shoresh who could renounce their Israeli citizenship did so. But I don’t get to tell people how to do their activism, (that's something everyone should internalize) and ultimately I don’t know which members are dual citizens. (NB: Their insta also shows Abby Stein and Peter Beinhart, both American Jews, neither of whom has Israeli citizenship to renounce.)

General thoughts: Shoresh is not the most radical organization in the world, but that does not mean they are actively harmful (see J Street and other “pro-Israel pro-peace” orgs). You do not have to support Shoresh, but you also don’t have to say nasty things about them. You can ignore orgs you don’t like! You can march alongside them or even with them if you're comfortable and not agree with their positions. (And I wish “influencers” on Instagram would realize this.) I haven’t interacted with Shoresh, so I can’t speak to how much change they’re effecting. I know that they’ve been disrupting a lot of pro-IDF fundraising events in the USA, as well as going to/hosting rallies, and that’s substantial.

They're located in NY so I have no direct experience with them. Again, not here to do PR for orgs.

In the spirit of positivity, what are some things you appreciate about the portrayal of female characters in KH? I like that the male protagonists are respectful of the female protagonists. They're good boys who don't talk down to them or objectify them. And while that's to be expected from a disney property, we know some other media in similar genres lack those positives. I also like that even though there are romances and potentially implied romances, there are also male-female friendships.

I like that most of them either have a big involvement in the plot and/or have a screen presence that is very memorable.

Aqua, Kairi, Namine, and Xion have the most impact out of all the female characters, where Aqua is the 3rd leading character in the entire series behind Sora and Riku in terms of gameplay, where Kairi is our 3rd lead in terms of plot, of finding her place here and there for the numbered titles (+thematically for CoM) + Melody of Memory, Namine is the broken support character at pivotal moments, and Xion has a compelling story that, some have argued, "steals the show" from Roxas (I don't agree, but that says a lot in terms of the story presence she was given in Days). Despite the intentional parallels between, well, all of them (coughwatercough), all four are VASTLY different from each other, even Kairi and Xion.

As far as I'm concerned, Larxene was always considered one of the more notable Org XIII members since CoM, by her personality alone, and despite being the only female until Xion, this ironically made her stand out even more. In CoM, her personality gave her just as much presence in the organization as Axel and Marluxia—way more than the others at Castle Oblivion, and she came across as more antagonistic than either Axel or Marluxia. This counts for KH3 in retrospect to a handful of them as well. And if she wasn't done there, now she's also linked to deeper truths of the Dandelions and being a Keyblader. She has a cemented spot in the story to play a role again.

Speaking of which, all the ones from Chi/Union Cross: Ava, Invi, Skuld, Strelitzia—Ava and Skuld being the leading ones here, they all find their importance and expression too. And all of them have a returning presence on screen pending as the plot moving forward demands it—straightforwardly we see where Strelitzia is placed, but we know Ava, Invi, and Skuld will have to come back too.

And I thought Vor and Urd were interesting as well, as short as Dark Road is, plus the other female classmates. Olette is on-par with the same importance as Hayner and Pence.

For all of them—yeah, there's a lot of different relationship types among them, and they all have vastly different roles and impacts to the story, as opposed to all playing the same thing. The only thing that could be called out for this is basically that out of 4 trios—Destiny, Wayfinder, Sea Salt, Twilight), the schematic of 1 F + 2 M didn't change at all. Could've had at least one be 2 F + 1 M, but it is what it is.

If we're just playing a number game, sure, there are more male characters than female characters. That fact has nothing to do with the quality that can be sought out for ANYONE—never minding the fact that, in comparison to how many original male characters we have, there's a very limited number of original male characters that are as interesting as the female characters imo.
