I think a lot of the support for Maka's mom might just be a hate for Spirit.
My gosh just found this in my drafts. Sorry, Anon, if you were the other one I recently answered about her. So some of this may be redundant...
Let's not even look at Spirit. Let's just look at Maka's mother. What do we know about her?
a great meister
made Spirit a death scythe
was Spirit's second partner after he was with Stein 5 years
was the one to discover the experiments done to Spirit
she left Spirit for his supposed cheating
she is NOT THERE
Spirit describes her as asking pointed questions
(anime only) she's "missing"
(anime only) sends blank postcards to Maka periodically from around the world
(anime only) was calm and collected at the divorce hearing
(anime only) could use the special scythe-technique Genie Hunter
(anime only) Maka describes her like a grizzly bear/hippo in that she is "strong, hot-tempered, you don't wanna see her when she's angry"
(anime only) Maka describes her as "still warm, kind-hearted, and loyal"
(manga only) mailed her wedding ring to Spirit after the divorce
(manga only) has a strong anti-madness wavelength
This...is literally it. This is ALL we know about the woman. We don't even know her name.
I don't see a good mother when I look at this list. So why there's support for her in fandom? All I can think of is sympathizing with someone who was wronged by their significant other. Which, I completely understand. But why put her on a pedestal for it? When she has nothing to show for herself in terms of being a good mother to Maka... No no, this woman...does not deserve any honors.
Now, let's look at Spirit. What do we know about him?
he is there and always has been (at Maka's kindergarten graduation; he's in her photo albums with her younger than that)
he makes an effort to be around Maka and tries to spend time with her
he tries (but fails) to get her a special gift (not his fault it failed)
the idea of a parent abandoning their child sends him sobbing
he's Lord Death's personal weapon and takes the job seriously
he likes booze
he likes women
he goes to a cabaret regularly for drinks and attention
he is very good at reading and controlling a meister's wavelength
he will risk his life for the greater good
he looks beyond the surface with people to see the good within
he exaggerates (even lies) to make himself look good to get attention from women (manga only)
he lies to Lord Death to save a friend's life (manga only)
he genuinely cares about other people close to him and their happiness (manga more obvious but both)
he's aware of his own shortcomings and admits to them (manga more obvious but both)
he shows extreme bravery in the face of certain death (manga only)
I will repeat what I've said elsewhere... The author presents him as a character to be disliked; to be the butt of the joke. But by the fifth episode into the series, that's already changed! Already there's more going on beneath the surface. And that just continues to unfold in the anime, and then even more in the manga.
The problem seems to be people see him in episode/chapter 1, draw their conclusions, and...that's it.
But yeah, this should not be a... Spirit vs. His Ex situation... Mrs. Albarn was awful too, arguably far worse.
So, yes, I agree. I think a lot of praise for her is in fact just projecting based on unwarranted hate for Spirit.
(I was SO tired writing this please tell me if I forgot anything.)

Does Narinder have any "friends" in the cult.
He doesn't really understand how friendship works. He will have acquaintances, people he knows that he doesn't necessarily hate the presence of. He met most of them doing work for the cult early on.
Eventually they just pass away like any other mortal, but they're okay while they last.
Tumblr media
However, some are more important and memorable to him. They're good assets for helping him keep the remnants of his god magic.
Tumblr media
Either way most people don't get that far friendship wise

Hey, that's cool. It's hard to find "ship art" of them, especially that isn't sexual.

Why is undertaker's scythe an actual Scythe unlike the other reapers?? And do grim repaers have their scythes specially made for themselves? What is so special about him that they decided to give him an real scythe?
Undertaker's scythe, revisited
All of these questions have been discussed in my blog before, in some fashion. Perhaps try searching it for stuff like "agriculture" or "agricultural". Or "Undertaker's death scythe" or "Cedric of Rotherwood".
But, for quick answers, I'll break it down like this:
1. That's what he chose. Either that sort of scythe was new technology when he first became a reaper (Cedric of Rotherwood from Ivanhoe parallel) because he's really that old... or a death scythe that looks like an actual scythe is the regulation version that reapers usually get once they complete their training. And he either didn't modify it after turning it from sickle to scythe, or he only modified it a bit, like adding the skeletal details.
Since I think he's very old, and because he was the "epitome" of a reaper, I think this is the only design he would have wanted.
2. It's explained in the manga that once reapers complete their training, they get to modify their death scythes. Othello's sickle is a training version because he never modified it at all. He admits that to Grelle when we are first introduced to him.
Grelle's most-recent modification apparently wasn't made until working with Madam Red inspired the chain saw design. One of the reasons William arrests Grelle is because of this unauthorized modification. That means it's new. Grelle later gets the modification approved. Ronald's modification is also fairly new, probably made just before we meet him, and he had to chat up a lady from the reaper HQ's modification department (or whatever) to get it. Honestly, I think both of them have ridiculous designs for death scythes. Not only is it gruesome to hit a person with rotating blades, but any death scythe that relies on rotation is easily disrupted: we've seen Sebastian stop Grelle's with a wool coat, and we've seen Layla/Al stop Ronald's with what might be regular scissor blades. Ludger might have a similar weakness in the design of his hedge trimmer.
3. At the time, nothing about Undertaker (136649) would have seemed special at all... beyond him refusing to go by his name. I suspect that he's really that old. All the reapers long ago would have probably used death scythes that look like scythes.
What's so special about the (relatively) newer reapers -- like Grelle, Ludger, and Ronald -- that they'd be approved to use power tools as death scythes?

Greetings mutual of mine, tis I, completing my duties as a mutual to randomly send you questions :D
What color would your Scythe robe be and why??
A light purple with a pink interior and trim. The purple as an homage to the honerable scythe curie and the pink because it goes with it and I like pink.

Wanna hear you talk about your aus so much, whichever one you want to tell more about. Also, would still love to read about your bsd oc if you ever feel like it ^_^
I WILL TELL YOU ABOUT MY AUS
well. one of them because my bsd/doom au still makes absolutely no sense and i'm honestly still kind of embarrassed about it, but no doubt i will shove it in everyone's faces the moment i figure out how to make it work and abandon what's left of my dignity.
anyway the way more fleshed out (but just as self-indulgent) one is the same kind of au that pops up in every fanbase ever: zombie apocalypse. however, my au focuses on just a few central characters—oda's kids. (more explanation under the cut because it is kind of long)
the basic concept is that the five kids (aged up a few years for realism's sake as i highly doubt a bunch of children 9 years and younger would last long on their own) were being taken care of and protected by odasaku after shit hit the fan. they were hiding out in the upper floor of a small apartment complex that oda had spent a lot of time reinforcing and making somewhat habitable again. although he spent as much time as possible with them, he was forced to leave them for short periods (half a day at the absolute most) on their own so he could go on runs for supplies. because no way in hell was he going to be taking them outside and endangerin them like that. oda's a damn talented fighter, but even he'd struggle to protect five children and himself if a horde was suddenly alerted. so, he spent a lot of the time that they were stuck inside teaching them how to defend themselves and what to do if shit went sideways and he wasn't there. as weeks passed and resources within the vicinity began to dwindle, oda had to leave more and more frequently and for longer and longer periods of time in order to scrape together enough supplies to support the six of them. it became clear pretty quickly that he had a choice to make. he stays here with them in the area, and they starve to death, he attempts to travel a long distance with five children (meaning frequent stops so they can rest but he'd have to keep alert, leaving him exhausted and unfocused after days), or he leaves them here and travels further out to find resources to bring back. with no vehicle or fuel, oda knew the only way they'd survive is if he went out on his own and left them for a bit. and so, he prepared a small amount of rations to keep himself functioning and he made sure they had enough food and water to last them for a couple of weeks, though he hoped he'd be back in about a week or so. he talked with them about what he had to do, and that he'd be back as soon as possible. this was met with a lot of objection from the kids, though it was to no avail. he gave kōsuke one of his guns (just in case) and his coat, told them to take care of eachother and left.
despite their reluctance (kōsuke especially), they stayed put for as long as they could hold out. kōsuke went full big brother mode and took the lead while their dad was absent. he tried to keep track of food and water and assigned chores to everyone—both to keep the place decently habitable and to keep themselves busy and not worry so much about oda—that they rotated between themselves. it was as organized as a group of 9-14 year-olds could make it. it went on for a week. then two. then a full month. and there was no sign of their caretaker. and kōsuke began to stress more and more as the days went by and the cans on the shelf became fewer and fewer. it showed, and his little siblings began to take note. it was clear that something happened. it was taking way longer than it should have. and at this rate, they were going to run out of food. so, after a lot of debating and discussion, they made a decision. they had to go out and look for him, and find some supplies to keep them alive while they were at it. so, they crammed whatever they could bring into a couple of school backpacks and armed themselves with the single pistol and whatever other objects they could use as weaponry (a wooden baseball bat, a pipe they struggled to rip out of the wall, a shower curtain rod, etc.). and they left.
that's the basic premise of it! i want to make a post that goes more into detail about the type of zombies they're working with (because as your resident medical nerd i have to talk about the kind of pathogen and how it affects the human body) as well as my personal headcanons about the kids' personalities. honestly, the main reason i came up with this au is because i want to explore ideas about the kiddos more without the distraction of more major characters. considering how little canon and fanon content there is of them, i felt the need to come up with my own way of doing that, and here it is! like i said, i'm definitely going to go more in detail about my ideas later. i've already got some concept art (can you really even call it that? idk) in progress and i might even write a fic about it (in spite of my god-awful writing skills) or draw a comic (if i have the patience). but who knows. anyway thanks so much for your ask, and i'm glad you found interest in my weird aus! as for my oc, i'll probably make another post about him since this one is already way way too long lmao.

Do you think that Munira has a thing for faraday
To be honest, I don’t really see it in my opinion. I mean yeah sureee, she’s Faraday’s assistant and also had to be his mini caretaker because of his super miserable state but I dunno, I don’t really see that she has a thing for Faraday?
Maybe there might’ve been details that could’ve suggested this stuff somewhere but I’ll have to figure it out. Anyways yeah, that’s my opinion and nothing too strong about it, It’s just that I kinda don’t see it.

hey sorry for the immense amount of reblogs but you are The Scythe Blog to me so yes.
also I've been thinking. That time the Thunderhead turned the lights off for Greyson but he couldn't see because his eyes were closed:
1. can't you detect when the lights are on or off even when your eyes are closed? it just. gets darker when they're off. if that makes sense
2. CANT THE THUNDERHEAD TELL IF HIS EYES ARE CLOSED?? or was it just Not Paying Attention
I actually don’t think your senses work properly when you’re suffering from extreme self pity disease unfortunately so sad so sad so sad……. Or maybe he just thought brother McCloud did it lol

Out of all your OCs, which one is the most like you and the least like you? Do those particular OCs get along?
MOST like me is bug, my sona, since he. is me. and least like me is either ynufouu or my super old creepypasta oc who i named scythe.
ynufouu is a literal goddess of absolute purity, and scythe is. a fucking serial killer with like 5 horribly written mental disorders that i dont have. neither of them are like me.
i still have her unfinished backstory somewhere in an old notebook im gonna go find it

unpopular head cannons?
Not sure which fandom you're asking for... I'll hit my main two right now, lol. And I don't know if they're actually unpopular or just...unique to me. So anyway...
Kim Possible
Drakken and Shego do in fact get married and want/have kids and get very domestic, post-canon. But. They remain in evil. They're just more lowkey about it.
Ron and Kim go to different colleges and break up for awhile. Ron starts seeing Yori seriously. Ultimately he realizes that yes, Kim IS the one for him, but he had to spend some time finding who he is without her to be his best self for her.
Ron also easily masters the monkey powers and they're not some big angsty problem for him. It's KP, come on. This is a lighthearted comedy cartoon.
Soul Eater
Stein is NOT some cannibalistic kinky blood-play neuro-divergent. He has some serious issues that never got addressed properly during his childhood, and so he struggles his entire life having to deal with these issues without any proper guidance. (Because burdening another child, Spirit, with that responsibility was a bad idea and sure as heck didn't work.) So he has his serious ups and downs since he has to figure everything out for himself, ultimately. But the common fandom treatments I often see of him just don't jive with what I see onscreen/on the page.
Stein didn't experiment on Spirit in the way it's implied. I think Kami convinced Spirit that worse things were going on than actually were out of jealousy, and I also think Spirit knew about the minor things that did go on. I think Spirit's comments to Blair about the experiments were drunken gross exaggerations, and he canonically does that (manga) soooooooo yeah. Lord Death simply wouldn't have kept Stein around if he was truly a threat, so the experiments couldn't have been that much. And I have plenty of ideas about just what went on...
Spirit did NOT sleep around!!! Now, hear me out. And I'll keep it brief cuz I could go ON about this! The man is a celebrity, and he is THE death scythe. He's gonna have adoring fans all over him no matter where he goes. Also, dancing with people??? Is a normal social interaction??? Since when does someone only dance with their spouse at a public gathering. The ONLY evidence we have of him "cheating" is the point of view of a five year old watching her celebrity dad interacting with people, when her mother isn't there. (Seriously...if Maka's fave memory of her mother is the divorce...where WAS the woman for her entire childhood???) And okay so moving past Maka's perspective and the fact that THE death scythe is gonna be surrounded by fans at all times (and you SoMa people y'all have the same headcanons about Soul so I know this isn't outside the realms of possibility) when we see Spirit in potentially compromising situations? What happens? His wife merely gets mentioned and he turns into a blubbering emotional disaster. You're telling me this man could have actually followed through on sleeping with another woman? In any case... His wife was simply not around, they had a loveless marriage that only occurred cuz of an illegitimate baby, and if he did seek attention elsewhere it's hard to blame him. But no, mister cries-at-the-mention-of-his-ex absolutely did not have it in him to sleep around. He's just a celeb trapped in a loveless marriage, and he's an attention whore. And yes this was me being brief.
Gonna stop there, ask again if you want more cuz boy do I have more! Thank you so much for the ask!!!

I hope death sythes are properly customizable and not just "pick your selection of garden equipment" bc the potential to have a whole ass like flame thrower would be amazing and I'd sign tf up
Hm, maybe. I see why it would only be garden equipment, though (garden scythes, innit?), and I think that’s what the implications may be in canon, both manga and anime.
But, yes, a flame thrower would be cool.

Don't shinigami have cinematic record? When in the Atlantic book During the war, Undertaker injured Grell and Ronald with his scythe, although they were very injured, but their cinematic records were not revealed (this happened to Sebastian.) Does it mean that I don't have it or it just doesn't show? .I also apologize for my English. It is not my first language
Reaper cinematic records
Reapers should all have cinematic records, otherwise they would not have memories, but Undertaker wasn't interested in viewing Ronald's and Grelle's cinematic records when they were hit with his death scythe. When he gets a really strong hit on Sebastian, he actually says something like "show me you cinematic records".
There was one time when Grelle (as half of Jack the Ripper) hit Sebastian hard enough to view a small part of his cinematic records, but earlier in their fight, hits to Sebastian were too minor to pull any of his cinematic records out. Apparently.
