I’m not sure if he’s gotten a lot of praise yet but I just want to say that Scott Shepherd absolutely knocked it out of the park with David. I hated him, he was so creepy and vile and sinister and I just think he played this role so damn well!! Another contender for best guest actor at the Emmys tbh because I just think he was phenomenal

The villain in the latest The Last of Us episode is played by Scott Shepherd who had previously also portrayed a priest in the HBO series The Young Pope (highly recommend). Anyways he has range. He was so creepy I immediately felt he was gonna end up the main threat of the episode. In The Young Pope however his character is a very sweet man, and a bisexual legend I will never forget. Watch The Young Pope

I think one of the things that skeeves me out about David in the show is that he looks so normal. Like in the game he looks sinister. You can tell that he, on some level, is evil.
But in the show he's just some guy. He looks like he coached little league and grilled a mean hot dog.
And that's what is so scary about David. Evil people in the real world often look like everyone else. They look like your neighbors, your boss, the person running the register at the grocery store you frequent. The most evil person could be someone you see every day, who waves and smiles at you.

Was it not clearly implied that David was a pedophile?!? OG Joel Troy Baker was trying to say that he wasn’t actually a predatory creep?!?
That hand holding cell scene had NO OTHER implication?!? The final scene where he says “there’s no fear in love”?!? The obvious implications in the fight scene choreography?!? The daughter of that guy who was clearly afraid of him in the dinner scene?!?
