Prompt Generator Fic #4 Headcanon

(Actually this one is not a repost bc I never posted it... just musings on the prompt :P Feel free to start a conversation about it)

Gordon + John + Headcanon + leave

“Leave” brings to mind leaving the island. And I know everyone’s immediate reaction is ABSOLUTELY NOT none of them is EVER leaving how dare you even suggest it and like… I dare to suggest it because they all need space to grow and the island can’t give them that. I’m not super outgoing, but I value community and love to be around people so naturally that’s skewing my view, but like don’t you remember being in your late teens in particular – but also your early twenties – and wanting to build something separate from your family, something that was yours? It’s not a rejection of family to want something for yourself, it doesn’t mean you don’t love them, or that you can’t work towards goals together or anything like that.

And this is about Gordon and John, the two most middle children to have ever middle child-ed. You can’t tell me that they wouldn’t want to break free and forge their own paths. I mean they already have to an extent - I think it’s a fair interpretation that they’re the ones who’ve crafted a unique space in iR in a way that Scott, Virgil and Alan haven’t.

Anyway specific headcanonning as per the prompt

I fully believe Gordon lived pretty much independently from his family during his high school years because they all went to the island and he stayed behind to train on the National Swim Squad and for the Olympics and things, and as such I don’t believe he was on the island when Jeff disappeared. He’d visited, but it was never home to him, although it became that when he committed to International Rescue. And although I see him wanting to stay involved for a long time – I also can see him breaking off and establishing a Northern branch with Penny. He has contacts in the business, people he can trust and I think Gordon more than any of them needs a space for his own, partially because of that independent streak and partially I think to prove that he can.

John, of course, can hear an accusation in his family’s messages every time he goes to his own home, the faint whisper of how John always leaves. And that’s why I think he’ll stay the longest – not only because he loves what he does, even when it’s hard – but also to prove that he’s not the one who leaves, he’s never been the one who leaves. So he’ll break off last, if he does at all, and to be honest – if he breaks off it’ll be because he is leaving an active role with International Rescue for good. Whereas Gordon might not stay on the island, but he’ll stay with iR a long time yet.

Jimmy wandered away, looking up and down the aisles as the other two walked towards the counter. It was the kind of place that piled up on itself and twisted inward, becoming a labyrinth of shelves and boxes. He idly poked at a box of old black and white photographs.

There was one near the back, clearly quite old. It showed two men, standing stiffly in the typical fashion for a portrait, but close to each other—dressed simply. He was ready to scan past it, but felt a shiver up his spine as his eyes passed across the faces. The very familiar faces.

"Tango?" He called out. "You're never going to believe this."

Tango scrambled back over, clearly ditching whatever conversation he'd been engaged in with the proprietor. "What'd you find? Some cool tool, or—well look at Mr. Handsome over here."

Jimmy's fingers traced the outline of their faces in the portrait. "Do you want it?"

"Of course I do."

probably talked abt it or mentioned it on the drawing back then but some things abt Dylan getting Schrodinger in the western au:

was thinking he's out doing tasks for the day, possibly get info for jobs, going around town, getting supplies etc. he steps out of one of the general stores by a near by town, w food and other supplies for him and the rest of the gang, when he see's a poor lil cat near by wandering alone, possibly hungry.

Dylan being Dylan he automatically goes over to the cat, he's a bit dirty but he's very friendly and sweet especially w strangers, Dylan's already in love w the fuzzy guy and totally distracted from the task he's even supposed to be doing lolol he spends a lot of time sitting near him and petting him, even giving him some canned fish as a treat.

some time later Dyl realized how much time he wasted just spending time in town playing and feeding his new friend, hurrying off to get to his horse and not get distracted even more, he looks back to the little feline sitting looking at him patiently before hopping up on the saddle. as dramatic as it sounds, he couldn't turn away from him after looking at him in the eyes, he felt like his heart would shatter if he abandoned his new friend, so ofc Dylan scoops him up and rides back to camp, carefully as he can, w his new best friend and pet Schrodinger 💕

and ofc, since Dylan founded him and took him in, plus bonding w him, he takes the most responsibility to look out and care for him. Schrodinger also stays/sleeps in Dylan's room but he still roams around freely elsewhere in camp. Schrodinger is also like a huge support to Dylan bc I hc he gets him after losing his hand (in the au) so having a lil friend by his side helps him a lot 💖

Now I'm curious, I need to know how many bloodlines are dead, like Bluestar's is just tragic

WELL, it's a question without a straight answer. Bluestar's bloodline isn't "dead" but it's not "alive" either. It's a secret third thing. I'm calling it Schrodinger's Bloodline in my head.

In RiverClan, ShadowClan, and WindClan, there's a "missing generation" gap in-between TPB and TNP where a ton of "Orphan Warriors" suddenly appear. For a series that's hypothetically supposed to have legacy as a major theme, in practice, only ThunderClan is allowed to remember their grandparents lmao. So that means that Reedwhisker COULD have had children... but we don't know.

The only direct lines that cross that Missing Generation Gap we have tracked outside of Thunder and Sky are;

The Palebird Line (Tallstar, Onestar, Heathertail)

The Hickorynose Line (Deadfoot, Sorrelshine, Whitetail. Completely absorbed by the Palebird line)

The Scorchwind Line (Rowanstar)

So, any other non-ThunderClan family tree that you can think of is "gone", or more accurately, in the Schrodinger's Bloodline box. Yellowfang's entire family is gone. Blackstar's family is gone. Crookedstar's family is gone.

The TRULY DEAD lines in Warrior Cats are within SkyClan and ThunderClan. And by the way it's INSANE how inbred SkyClan, The Kittypet Guys, became in less than 3 generations. It's AWFUL.

This is because the writers have a really bad habit of "quantity over quality" in terms of which cats they choose to "breed." They'll pick "super parents" in a generation, essentially, have them produce 4 - 7 kittens, and then choose 3 of them to become the parents of the next generation. Clovertail, Snowbird, Robinwing, Swiftbreeze... and basically they irrevocably fuck up the genetic diversity completely.

(and then they forget they did it and ignore their own shitty tree, because if they didn't, they would completely prevent shipping within several generations. Dustpelt being Ferncloud's uncle, Spottedleaf being Tigerclaw's aunt, Brightheart and Swiftpaw being 1st cousins, Thrushpelt being Thistleclaw's brother, all things the writers completely forget... if you treat canon like scripture, you'll eat yourself alive.)

But anyway, tangents aside, lines that are entirely dead within ThunderClan;

Thrushpelt, Dappletail. This little branch is dead.

Sunstar's line is dead

One-Eye's kits, Runningwind and Mousefur, had none of their own

Doestar's line is dead

Not to mention the orphan warriors. Hollypelt, Rockfall, Weedwhisker...

So, in a nutshell, the list of "living" lines is shorter than the list of 'dead' lines. This is because the lines in most side clans aren't tracked, and in Thunder and Sky, bloodlines bunch up through genetic bottlenecks like Adderswift/Robinfuzzy/Clovertail.

Yeah, I feel like I'm living in The Upside Down. Anne was not writing for a YA audience with YA themes à la Stephenie Meyer and J.K. Rowling. The relationships she created were much more mature, subtle, and nuanced.

Quick Recap for the Class

Louis left Lestat for dead in the swamp--Armand couldn't steal a guy who wanted to be taken. Lestat and Armand have it out behind the scenes, ��it's revealed Armand has more than one motivation for how things went down in the theatre.

Flash-forward.

Lestat wakes up from his dirt nap and reunites with Louis, he inquires about Armand and says he hopes to see him. Armand absolutely insists on going to Lestat's concert with his newborn in tow because he's so worried about Lestat as the world's ending.

Fast-forward.

Armand is the one Lestat calls when he's having trouble with Memnoch. Armand tries to commit suicide. Lestat, traumatized for about 12 different reasons, slips into a coma. Louis keeps watch and mourns Armand.

Flash-forward.

Louis tries to commit suicide, Lestat is there for him.

Flash-forward.

Louis and Armand have been living together at Trinity Gate for a decade, bringing up the fledglings Marius "gave" to Armand. Lestat has been doing God knows what with God knows who (Quinn, Rowan, etc.). Armand and Louis worry about him--Anne mentioned this on a Facebook post. Lestat creeps around Armand's private property to spy and says he wishes he could join them.

Flash-forward.

Daniel, Armand's one and only fledgling, returns to Trinity Gate. Louis then moves to France with Lestat. Armand tells Lestat he's happy Louis is with him (I think everyone knew this was the best option for all of vampirekind). Lestat writes he wishes he could tell Armand that he loved him, that they all loved each other. Armand visits France, perhaps more often than he'd like to.

Flash-forward.

Plot drama. Louis gets kidnapped and is presumed dead, Armand goes into hysterics and blames Lestat because he could have prevented it. Armand then Bitches Lestat Out. The series concludes with Lestat and Louis dancing in the ballroom and Lestat looking towards Armand. They smile at each other, a smile Lestat says only he seems to notice.

Schrodinger's love triangle, simultaneously existing without ever having existed at all. It's a fun trope in fic and all, but it was never a theme in canon. Anne's vampires were better than that.

Yes, I would expect that she started living in the cave possibly because that's where she met Diego too. So she was holding out hope that he would come back, only to get Lilith instead (for the best, of course). I've been thinking more about werewolves in this setting and how they came to exist, and I think maaayyybe whatever is going on with Ava is also linked to or is even the source of werewolves (the idea is simmering, I'm playing around with Ava possibly being responsible for turning Diego into the first werewolf by accident, through magical nonsense). Either way, yes she's devastated and trying to distract herself in any way she can, meaning Lilith's arrival helped her on multiple fronts.

If Lilith knew about immortals beforehand or maybe just legends of them, then she would be distrustful at the start, especially when Ava refuses to give her a straight answer on how she came to be immortal. But necessity and strange bedfellows and etc. etc. Ava helps Lilith survive until she can safely leave the cave and then Ava... just sort of follows her, to Lilith's annoyance and dismay. She keeps her distance for awhile, but then gradually gets closer until maybe Lilith has a dangerous moment where she's really hurt or about to burn in the sun and Ava rescues her. They aren't planning their honeymoon anytime soon but they recognize that they are better off with each other than alone.

When Beatrice gets her paws under her, she'll return their antics with her own. Her biggest hits include laying her 300-lb. furry self in front of the door whenever the other two try to leave, forcing Lilith to pick her up (strategic cuddling) and pinning one or both of them under her and then falling asleep (strategic napping).

i feel like, honestly, pretty much any song from my playlist for him does this for me now? (here is that playlist, if you're curious!) the real top ones are cascades (dirt road version) by metric, weight of the world by evanescence, and 3 libras by a perfect circle.

🧍‍♂️am i joking in saying this represents him? am i serious? this is schrodingers emoji question. i feel like cassian would actually use it, though; this falls in line with his sense of humor.

19. how about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?

i feel like there isn't really one that i don't like, necessarily? there are a lot of complexities in a lot of his canon relationships that are worth exploring. there's a lot that the andor series didn't address with maarva, for instance, that i think should've been addressed, but i'm very interested in the complex kind of strain that's there. and while i wouldn't really consider myself a supporter of bix and cassian as a romantic dynamic, i think their relationship as exes and why that fell apart romantically is very interesting, and their friendship and some of the baggage that still exists within that friendship is very interesting to me. (i'm also just a huge sucker for fraught exes dynamics LMAO)

Who is Decanee? How is She Different From Kaze’aze?

Crossposting this from the r/GrandChase subreddit where I went a little bit off the rails explaining what’s up with Decanee. Figured it’d be good to put it here on this blog too. It’s way too long, so it’s under a cut. Be forewarned there’s spoilers for GC:DC and GCC! TL;DR is near the top.

Also, I absolutely have more thoughts about this topic that we’ve got going into the essay on plurality in GC(DC) because. Oh my god. You know how evolution-wise everything eventually becomes crabs? That but with fucking plural characters in this franchise, Gods help me. A lot of that is up to interpretation of course but I think that essay’s kind of further back in our post log and. I will not go on that tangent right now.

[ So I might be in the process of writing way too many essays about this series, especially about this single nebulous character lmao, so here's the Lore:tm: that you get from playing further through the mobile game, including what's up with Karina in this all too. Spoilers for the Bermesiah, Ellia, and Pandemonium worlds and also what you can see in the event dungeon in GCC.

First, the tl;dr in case you're not here for an essay: Karina was turned into a demon by Ashtaroth (possessed by the evil prana of Baldinar). Everyone turns on her, so she decides she's going to make it everyone's problem that she's a demon now. She's now Kaze'aze. The plot of GCC happens; Kaze'aze is defeated in her castle. What we are told is Kaze'aze shows up in Tower of Disappearance, but the event dungeon (Tower of Illusion) tells us that this is potentially Decanee, who is a construct made by Heitaros to imitate Kaze'aze and sow chaos. Decanee takes the memories remaining from Kaze'aze. During the events of GC:DC, she purposefully lets people think she's Kaze'aze when it benefits her (such as with getting Vice's help or taunting the GC in Teroka). At the end of it all, however, she's nothing but a creation designed to press on the old wounds created by Kaze'aze.

Now. This is the longer version. All this is thankfully available to read on the wiki in a longer, less centralized version. You can also find folks playing through the story on Youtube.

Karina Erudon was a member of the Kanavan guard, a close friend of Anyumena (the Queen of Kanavan). One day, their caravan was attacked. The queens survived, but Ashtaroth (possessed by the evil prana of Baldinar that was remnant after the explosion of Kounat), wanted to take revenge on the descendants of Kounat's survivors and cause them pain. Thus, he cast a demonization spell on Karina, framing her for the attack. The country pushed her out, and eventually Ashtaroth approached her with the offer to teach her her magic once she'd grown resentful of her countrymen.

At this point, Karina is given the name Kaze'aze. According to some dialogue said in the GC:DC Tower of Disappearance (potentially just flowery language butchered by the translation), Karina was dead by time her body became Kaze'aze. Regardless, people still think of Karina when they see Kaze'aze, and her memories as Karina no doubt help her cause chaos and start the war that inevitably leads to the formation of the Grand Chase. She is killed in her castle, claiming that she will eventually return to take revenge on the Grand Chase.

At this point, her memories find their way into the many towers that dead souls find themselves into; the Tower of Disappearance is the most memorable one, as it shows up in both Grand Chase Classic and GC:DC. It's difficult to tell which version of events are canon here: the in-game dialogue, Episode &, or the retelling in the GC:DC intro. Regardless, the Kaze'aze that shows up here is Schrodinger's Dekaze'aze. She might be Decanee imitating Kaze'aze, she might not be. Hopefully, KOG will give us a definitive answer. Probably not. 

Let's talk about Decanee specifically, though.

Decanee is a construct explicitly created by Heitaros to cause chaos. According to Pino, she is "The Existence that Sows the Seeds of Chaos." She is quite literally designed to emulate Kaze'aze. She's rather open about this, kind of offering non-answers during the story about being not quite Kaze'aze, but this is taken to an extreme conclusion in the arc leading up to Pandemonium. Decanee is working with a sorcerer, Vice, who was extremely close with Karina. A keen eye will notice that any time Vice calls Decanee "Karina," she is nonchalant about going "well if you say so haha." This even shows in Vice's final scene at the end of Tower of Disappearance.

Some final thoughts, before I wrap this up lol. Let's look at the new GCC event dungeon.

There's a lot of ambiguity to the degree that Decanee has genuinely integrated Kaze'aze's memories into her consciousness. At the end of Tower of Illusions, she absorbs Kaze'aze's remnant memories, which appear to have some cognizance remaining, and then nearly loses herself to those memories, becoming Kaze'aze. She manages to pull herself together in the end, and by time we see her in GC:DC it's much less often that we see her slip into the persona of Kaze'aze.

Personally, I'm really excited to see if KOG actually wants to acknowledge the interesting line this character toes between the perception of self and identity, but it's also KOG and I only have these expectations because I am literally writing essays for fun about this garbage game lmao. Here's hoping she's fun to play at least, and so sorry if an infodump was not what you wanted lol.]

Tagged by @menagerie-of-monsters to answer these questions for a character. I've done Eddie and Asher, so I'll do Ken for this one.

1. Is he named after anyone?

Not in universe or out!

2. When was the last time he cried?

He cries out of exhaustion/stress not infrequently. The last time he really cried cried though was when his dad died. Five or less years before the start of canon, exact timeline as yet undecided.

3. Does he have kids?

No, but if he could conceive of a life where he could raise them well he'd want one.

4. Does he use sarcasm?

He'd like to, but his job has way too much control over his day to day life and he can't without being disciplined for negatively impacting corporate image. (His canon is set in a near-future dystopia.)

5. What's the first thing he notices about people?

Girl, Ken is so stressed and overworked and self-defensively hyper-focused on only the most specific things that won't make him feel any type of way or force him to know stuff, he hardly notices anything about anyone. He notices criminals. He notices cameras and his bosses. And baby that's it.

6. What's his eye color?

Very dark brown, almost black.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

If he ever had time for recreation, Ken would prefer a bittersweet ending that takes a lot of work to get to.

8. Any special talents?

He used to be really good at soccer. He will be very good at so-called "financial terrorism". But as of Schrodinger's Right Now, the beginning of canon, Ken's only skill is doing his job.

9. Where was he born?

Santa Monica, California USA.

10. What are his hobbies?

If he ever had time for recreation... lmao. He'd probably like to get back into soccer.

11. Does he have any pets?

Yet another thing he doesn't have time for. Topher has suggested lizards or a snake to him (what Topher has) because they don't need to be fed every day, but Ken is just not a reptile lover. He really wants a dog, but he knows he couldn't take care of it.

12. What sports has he played?

Already mentioned this, but soccer. He did a little bit of basketball and volleyball too as a kid, but he took soccer all the way to college and even played in an amateur league for a few years before his career ended everything.

13. How tall is he?

5'10"

14. Favorite subject in school?

English! That's what he went to college for as well, and he uses those credentials in his day job as a copy editor (he's absolutely overqualified, but he can't get promoted because everyone knows the heroing is a time liability). But yeah, his first love was words.

15. Dream job?

He would love heroing, if only it was. you know. ethical, sustainable, based on his skills and on need rather than on image and profit. He's going to love villaining lol.

I’m sorry if my tone was off putting. I did write that after a weird argument where the person was trying to argue facts about Nightwing that weren’t true. I didn’t mean to come across as if I was targeting you. So, I do realize that my original post was actually quite mean and could have been worded a lot better. I do love your blog and I hope this message Atleast doesn’t come off any way.

For me, i actually studied Psychology with a focus on human social interaction (I wanted to be a family and marital counselor) so I do know that the way that Babs treats Dick a lot of times can be coded as abuse. Especially the times when she has been physical with him or yells at him for things he can’t control. I know the word is scary, but nothing will ever change if we don’t be honest you know. It just sucks to see a character who is supposed to represent growth and independence be treated like a lap dog and be gateases/abused/attacked so much by other characters. Idk why Nightiwng seems to be such a magnet for this kind of content. Babs Batgirl used to be my favorite batgril until I started re-reading the stories as an adult and her relationship with Dick kinda bothers me. When she isn’t with Dick I like her 100x better and vice versa. She works better with characters who need that dominance like Bruce or Jason. But with Dick, it really is like the writers are creating drama where this isn’t any which is why it comes off the way it does. But at the end of the day, a spade is a spade you know. And this is also me ignoring the fact that technically, Babs got with Dick when he was still a teen and she was adult. So there is some really messed up history between them that hardly gets addressed. I appreciate that you are brave enough to even post these asks because in my experience many times you can’t talk about this stuff honestly without shippers hopping down your throat.

I've always been curious - what are your favorite ships?

under the cut bc its rambly and No One Cares about my old ass fandoms that were seasonal for most people but stuck with me for some reason and also to maybe avoid showing up in searches/tags for the rare person looking for Content

i guess the most Hardcore ive ever shipped is mcreyes (yes, overwatch i know), they consumed me with a rage that pretty much burned me out of fandom (tho i still ship it, i just literally never found anyone that sees them the same way i do - non-fanon compliant it is for me). along with them i also have somva and widowana and of course shimadacest, its just the Polycule living in my head [i guess i should point out i broke up w canon after the like first year of development ie after the great retconning so i neither know nor care whats happening there, these characters are basically (schrodinger's) ocs at this point]

the other fandom i am Too invested in is, tragically, dragon age, which i still sorta indulge in some Canon for (i apologize for whats likely going to happen to this blog once the next game comes out lmao). My ships there are mostly OC/canon, as the games sorta lead into. Anora/Zevran/Cousland (and cousland/loghain, and cousland/fergus...); Carver/Hawke/Isabela (/qp!Anders) [well and just some good old hawke/anders really], and Dorian/Trevelyan/Blackwall (/qp!Vivienne) are my mains.

dragon age leads to mass effect, where i fell head over for shakarian which i will fight for to my last breath i do not give a fuck. and also ashlaw wich i literally had to invent a shipname for cuz nobody else cares about it lmao (ashley and miranda if anyone even knows the franchise here lol)

i think more obvious is my love for star wars, i ship just the entire pentacule in the prequels/clone wars - obi/ani/padme/ahsoka/sabine. han/leia/luke(/lando?) for the og trilogy and reylo and finn/rose/poe in the new one (tho thanks to fandom im much less invested in finnpoe)

ive been in like a few fandoms that were wild and strong but didnt last - red dead where i shipped john/arthur/abigail; detroit become human where hannor ate my brains. pathfinder and divinity original sin which literally did not have a fandom, but i will tell you i very much ship my mains with amiri/octavia/regongar (in kingmaker) and camellia/daeran (in wotr);. in divinity Lohse/Sebille and Fane/Ifan are the other polycule plaguing me. oh and pillars of eternity with devil of caroc/maneha/PC tho i eventually ended up pairing up aloth w my pc in deadfire

real talk tho, the most recent thing close to an Obsession is fucking league of legends (yes i know) where its swain/darius/draven; yasuo/yone/taliyah; kayn/zed; and some good old lucian/senna. i mean you've seen the TF/Graves art this shouldnt be a surprise lol

and yeah in Arcane its silco/jinx/vi/vander

But mostly lately ive been merrily making DnD OCs and playing Rimworld which allows for amazing characters so it's kinda OC season i guess

oh and as an end to this rant which everyone gave up on reading im sure - i'll leave you with the fact that what got me into real fandom communities was itasasu (/saku and/or karin sometimes) and wincest (/jack) has been a latent interest even tho spn has never been high on my interests list so do with that what you will lol

I love kakagai, I think it's the ship that makes sense the most but what I dislike is how kakagai shippers saying it's canon, kakaobi shippers saying it's canon, kakairu shippers saying it's canon, hell even kakasaku and kakanaru shippers are claiming it's canon too just because Kakashi cared about them ಠ益ಠ Does canon mean that I like it so everyone else has to like it too now? It's infuriating to me that everyone likes to sexualize every beautiful relationship in Naruto then claim it's canon

Look, people have different interpretations of 'canon'. Just because, for all we know, Kishimoto intended every single character except the creepy pedo-coded villain to be read as cishet, it doesn't mean there isn't canon subtext, however unintentional, that people can pick up on and adore.

Sure, the canon content can be read completely as platonic. But honestly, I'm a little weirded out at how you seem to think that seeing hints of a romantic relationship in canon between men in a children's show is ‘sexualisation’.

Obviously, I'm not a fan of teacher/student ships. At the end of the day, I'm a firm believer in 'everyone can write what they want so long as they tag it properly so I can avoid it'. But seeing an adult and a child who are very close, and perceiving them as 'romantically involved', is a WHOLE lot different from seeing two adult male characters and thinking 'oh I can see a canon subtextual romantic relationship here'.

I don't really think they should be compared like this. I'm sure this wasn't your intention, but it kinda makes it sound like you're putting them on a moral playing field, which... no. :/

Of course, I may be being uncharitable. I admit that this whole issue might just be a muddle of terms. I and a lot of people use 'canon' to mean 'content in the source material'. This is different from 'Word of God', which means 'word of the author'. The two do not always align. However, if you see 'canon' as meaning 'both the source material and Word of God in combination', I can see that you might be upset that people are going against Kishimoto's personal views. I still don't think this is an excuse for actually bothering shippers about this, but I can understand it.

But the point remains: I haven't seen anyone say 'this is a canon ship and therefore you have to ship it'. Why would they? Everyone knows that shipping doesn't 'have' to follow canon anyway. A canon ship is of no greater or lesser worth than a non-canon one.

If people are implying otherwise, they're asses - but in that case, why come for the entire kakagai fandom, rather than just blocking those Schrodinger's Assholes who I've never had the misfortune to meet?

I just. I cannot see how people interpreting a romantic element in a canonically close relationship that is only assumed to be platonic because the couple is m/m rather than m/f is hurting you, anon. And it definitely doesn’t justify harrassment, which is what my original post was about.
