Author’s Notes: At the end of Dick's time in Spyral, Doctor Dedelus activates the Somnus Satellite, erasing Dick's existence from the world. This is handwaved at the end by Helena saying she hacked the satellite mid-mind-fight to add an exceptions list of her, the Batfam, and some others (and handwaved even more by DC pretending this ever happened) but I’ve always had AUs floating around in the back of my mind where the handwaving didn’t happen – where, after Spyral, the world actually did forget Dick Grayson. This is just one of those potential what-could-have-beens. Thank you so much to the Bat Big Bang mods for hosting this event and giving me the push I needed to write this story. And thank you to my amazing artist partner, Lilituism, who’s been so wonderfully supportive of this story all the way through and whose art so perfectly captures the heart of the story. Artist’s Notes: I really hoped I would get to draw for this story. Dick is my absolute favourite character and I love angst and drama that has a good chance of being resolved. Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn Prologue Q&A | 2019

Scenario Director Toru Osanai, Director Takefumi Terada, and Producer Yuji Shinoda answer questions from fans on the development of FINAL FANTASY XV EPISODE ARDYN PROLOGUE.

Full transcription below cut:

Q: At what point in the production of FFXV, was it decided to create an anime explaining Ardyn’s past?

Yuji: We actually had a poll in 2017 around the time EPISODE GLADIOLUS was released asking out users which character DLC everyone would like to see in the future and Ardyn became #1 in the results. Back then, it was scheduled for game DLC’s to be concluded with EPISODE IGNIS so it was decided then that we would release Ardyn in the format of an anime.

Q: What was most challenging while producing the anime? Did the cancellations of the DLCS’s affect the anime?

Yuji: In terms of challenging, as it was initially decided as only as an anime, we realized along the way we wanted to produce a game as well for our users. Since the anime is set in time 2000 years before the main game and it’s purpose was to explain Ardyn’s character, we hoped that it would also serve as a PR material for the main game. The main game was released 2 years ago so in a way, it was a way for us to communicate with our original FFXV users while showing our gratitude in a different form other than a game which was bit of a challenge for us. Although we had to send out upsetting news regarding the cancellations of the DLC’s towards the end of last year, it did not affect the content of this anime in any way.

Q: What was the main focal point for the anime?

Yuji: We wanted to show the main reasoning behind how Ardyn became who he is and why he acts how he does throughout the main game. Also, to explain why he wanted revenge against the Kingdom of Lucis. Also, in the main game it was hard to tell what Ardyn was thinking and his character was a mystery. We wanted to show a different side of Ardyn through this anime.

Q: How much creative licenses do the director and writers get on Ardyn’s backstory?

Takefumi: The anime was produced by Satellite Inc but regarding the scenario, story, and design, the FFXV production team of Luminous Productions had much of the backstory. Everything from Ardyn’s backstory, history of Kingdom of Lucis, to the story of the gods of Eos, we worked closely and together with Satellite.

Q: What was the one thing you wanted to include but couldn’t?

Toru: We really wanted to show more of the relationship between the 3 main characters (Ardyn, Somnus, and Aera). However, since the anime itself is really short, we were a bit limited in that sense. Also, we wanted to show the world 2000 years before the main game as well but limited again. So, we decided to focus on showing Ardyn’s character.

Q: What is one thing that was important for you to how in terms of Ardyn’s image from the main game?

Takefumi: As all of you know, Ardyn is the main nemesis of enemy within the main game. However, we wanted to show a complete opposite side of what he used to be. Ardyn, the savior for the people and how he slowly became what he is was out goal to show the users through both the anime and game

Q: Please explain to us the concept behind the 3 main characters in the anime?

Takefumi: Somnus’s design was based of Noctis. Thinking about the relationship between Ardyn, we wanted to represent him as a realist and a severe king. However, he became someone opposite character to Noctis. Regarding Aera, she was the only female who ever loved Ardyn. Design was made close to Luna. In the main game, during the battle against Leviathan, there is a scene where Ardyn displays great anger against Luna. I felt that making her look like Luna, it made Ardyn’s character stand out more.

Q: What is the relationship between Aera and Luna? How did Aera become an oracle herself?

Toru: Regarding the relationship of those two… Aera is the first oracle so that would make her Luna’s ancestor. We actually do not have a detailed back story as to how the first oracle became about. However, oracles are able to communicate with the gods from back then who were also looked up upon from the people.

Q: What does Somnus have such a hatred against Ardyn? What happened in the past?

Toru: This might be a bit of a spoiler to answer before watching the anime but in actuality, Somnus does not really hate Ardyn or despise Ardyn. As mentioned, Ardyn used to be a savior character for the people who was more of an idealist or dreamer. On the other hand, Somnus was more of an realist as Terada mentioned earlier and he wanted to save the world in a realistic way. Therefore, his method and way of thinking was simply different from the way from his brother, Ardyn.

Takefumi: Although, they both wanted to save the world and goals were the same, their methods were opposing which caused the conflict.

Q: What is the relationship Ardyn and Bahamut?

Toru: This is a SECRET! That is all. However, the answer to this is revealed throughout the game EPISODE ARDYN. So it would great if everyone can watch the anime then play the game.

Q: What are the birthdays and hobbies of the main characters?

Toru: This is… also a secret! No but this information has never been revealed but… Ardyn’s birthday is April 30th and his age was always stated as unknown but since its been about 2000 years… I would say he’s about 2033 years old?

Takefumi: There was also a factor where the diamond is the birthday stone which represented a strong will. So we gave all strong character’s with a strong wills an April birthday.

Toru: Moving along… His hobbies consisted of playing chess and drinking wine. Aera’s birthday is July 4th and 28 years old. Her hobbies are similar to Luna where they both like to grow flowers. Also, shown in the anime, she also has interest in archaeology.

Takefumi: Doesn’t she also like tea?

Toru: Tea… Not exactly. That’s actually Luna’s hobby. Moving along, Somnus’s birthday is May 9th and he is set to be 30 years old. His hobbies are napping and hunting.

Yuji: Didn’t Somnus and Ardyn play chess together when they were young?

Toru: Yes, they did!

Takefumi: And he used to go hunting with Gilgamesh during his childhood, right?

Toru: That is right, he used to go hunting with him and nap all the time. Just like his name.

Q: Besides Aera’s archaeology, are any of the other hobbies actually shown within the anime or game itself?

Toru: Hmm… Not for Ardyn and Somnus. Even for Aera, you don’t really see much but her hobby for flowers is the origin as to why Luna takes care of the sylleblossom flower in the main game was the concept.

Q: What was the relationship like between the 3 in their childhood?

Toru: There’s actually not much detail regarding Aera’s childhood. As for the brothers Somnus and Ardyn, it wasn’t bad at all in their childhood. As mentioned before, they would play chess together when they were young and Somnus actually looked up to Ardyn. Ardyn also took great care of his competitive little brother Somnus. So they got along really well when they were young.

Q: Is there any possibility to watch Ignis’ ancestors and Gladio’s ancestors?

Takefumi: Yeah. when are we going to get to see them?

Toru: Hmmm… Probably never? Actually though within EPISODE ARDYN, the game... Gladio’s father Clarus is featured.

Yuji: Maybe if we get enough requests and support? We may be able to?

Takefumi: Oh yeah?

Toru: How it will be released? (jokingly)

Q: Why is Ardyn’s chocobo black?

Toru: This is probably referring to the black chocobo Ardyn is riding through town 2000 years ago.

Takefumi: Yes, this is one of the key visuals we released back when the game was initially released.

Toru: This actually... Holds the key to all the secrets in EPISODE ARDYN. So. I really cannot discuss this since it will spoil everything.

Takefumi: We actually never released any infomation regarding the black chocobo’s in FFXV and kept it a secret.

Toru: No, we’re just kidding. I actually looked into it and black chocobo’s are set to be almost extinct and considered a rare species within FFXV. However, there were many of them 2000 years ago and the color black has a special meaning for the Caelum family back then. So Ardyn simply likes the color black officially. Maybe? That is all. This anime shows the side to everyone were not able to see of Ardyn in the main game. I hope this focus on Ardyn’s character will clear up many of the questions user had regarding him and I hope everyone will enjoy both the anime and the upcoming DLC game.

Takefumi: EPISODE ARDYN will be released in March! I would strongly recommend everyone to watch the anime first then play the game to get the full experience and understand Ardyn better. The gameplay is also unique and fun so I hope everyone is looking forward to the release.

469705 ǂKá̦gára (Put a Ring On It ~ 16 Feb 2023, Philip Sedgwick)

Evidently, the powers overseeing the celestial canopy took this message to heart. Rings are common around planetary objects. Saturn leads the pack as the ringed master in our solar system. Then there’s Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune all sporting rings and demolishing previous associations that rings around a planet - specifically Saturn - represent restrictions for those in the real world to overcome.

Jupiter and Uranus hopefully deposited that association about overly-maligned Saturn in the appropriate dumpster. After all, as if competing with the announcement of even more moons discovered around Jupiter, Saturn recently tantalized telescope cameras by sporting mysterious spokes fleeting across his rings. No doubt those rings consist of high-quality and cosmic clarity reflecting cosmic light for the wonder of all.

Did you know the centaurs Chiron and Chariklo (last call for the Twin Stars Relationship Report that features these two centaurs, e-mail for details) have rings. Did you know as well that the dwarf planet Haumea is confirmed to have rings? Now we find out that Quaoar, the first solar system object (and likely dwarf planet) named for indigenous peoples shows off a ring that currently drives astronomers to scratch their heads.

Quaoar possesses a satellite body (moon) close. This object is Weywot (Sky Father). However the position of Quaoar’s ring relative to it and its moon, doesn’t fall within previously demarcated demonstrated limits. As such, this ring defies previous theories for where ring material is likely to be located relative to the body it surrounds. By no means should a ring be kept in a box, or defined by pigeon hole, for that matter. Why is Quaoar so intriguing at present from an astrological point of view and what does this mean to those of us on Earth? Is it about being out of the box?

Discovered in June 2002 by the team of Mike Brown and Chad Trujillo at Palomar Observatory, the name Quaoar was chosen for the primary creation deity of the Tongva people residing near the observatory around what is now Los Angeles. As a creation god, Quaoar sang and danced other deities into existence and brought about life.

Currently, Quaoar in Capricorn squares Jupiter in Aries. Given perihelion in Pisces and node in Libra, Quaoar seeks to remind all of the importance of all relations and the complex weaving between all persons on the planet and their actions regardless of proximity. Equally important to highlight Jupiter’s influence, one must clarify that personal rituals and creative protocols are part of ones figurative song and dance to conjure positive results from life. As such since personal ceremonies must not be perceived as a dog and pony show, even if they appear out of the box. Simply, such actions seek to enliven the sincerest soul reach available at the time of creative conjuring.

Also in the category of objects that peal with a notable resonance is the naming of the Kuiper Belt Object 469705 (former provisional designation was 2005 EF298) as Ká̦gára. Actually this consists of a binary system between the namesake object and !Hãunu. Ká̦gára was discovered at Arizona’s Kitt Peak Observatory on 11 March 2005. The secondary body first appeared courtesy of the Hubble Space Telescope in 2009. Ká̦gára is estimated to be approximately 140 kilometers in diameter and the period of the binary pair runs 9.65 days. The overall orbital period stands at 292.45 years. This is the third named pair of Kuiper Belt Objects, the previous two pairs: Mors-Somnus and Sila-Nunam.

Today, the binary KBO retrogrades through 26 Virgo 38.

The source mythology originates with the ǀXam people of the Karoo region of southern Africa. According to lore, Ká̦gára, following a dispute with his brother-in-law, !Hãunu, sought to return his younger sister, the wife of !Hãunu, to their parents. !Hãunu raged after the siblings hurling lightning from mountainous clouds at them as they fled. One of the lighting bolts bounced back to strike !Hãunu. While Ká̦gára and his sister were unharmed, !Hãunu slowly died amidst the shaking of the thunder. There appears to be a similar tale in Australian Aboriginal mythology.

This successful tale of rescue and retrieval comes from a Kuiper Object with a north node of 28 Cancer 03 and perihelion (closest contact with the Sun) at 15 Libra 18 (NOTE: both coordinates are heliocentric). Whether the naming astronomer intended to do so or not, he nailed the tension often found between familial and interpersonal relationships as demonstrated by the nature of the signs of the orbital elements.

While becoming aware of this object only yesterday, beside the obvious intended resolution between relationship factions, interpretive concepts are still in the state of speculation. This comes to our attention on the heels of scores of thousands perishing in Syria and Turkey during the rumbling of a series of massive earthquakes. However, all elements of mountainous thunderstorms may be eligible to apply for consideration regarding shifting meteorological and climate considerations. Seeking the means to resolve personal, familial, tribal and cultural disputes gains importance, especially through the current position of this system in Virgo. Seek to overcome judgment, criticism and trolling while positively applying the trines to Pluto in Capricorn and Sedna in Taurus. Always seek to apply transformation magic to all real world circumstances, and so engage with the wisdom granted by diving deep into what fosters ones life and soul in grounded, practical realities.

Couple of loosely applied prescriptions for Ká̦gára, for sure. Leave lightning bolt hurling to those deity possessing a specific craft, skill and charge for such activity, and make no effort to steal anyone’s thunder.

Agent 37's World Première: Dick Grayson (Prime Earth)

Four years ago today (9 July), Grayson #1 debuted in stores introducing Dick Grayson as Agent 37. Created by Tim Seeley, Tom King, and Mikel Janín, they brought Dick Grayson from the comfortable world of vigilante superhero to the unnerving world of the super-spy. After his secret identity revealed and his supposed death publicized, Batman asked Grayson to stay dead and go undercover as an Agent of Spyral. As Agent 37, he was entrusted to protect the world's secrets that needed protecting and to stop crime on a global scale, while covertly reporting to Batman about the true agenda of Spyral. During his tenure, Grayson managed to find the secret behind Spyral, dismantle the organization, and via the Somnus Thought-Suppression Satellite Network, the world forgotten that Dick Grayson was Nightwing and dead. Spyral was then rebuilt as a genuine secret agency with Grayson's former partner, Tiger, as Patron of the organization. Related Posts:

Batman & Robin Eternal Vol 1 20: Death Spyral

Seven issues to go. Jason and Dick find out why Harper is so hell-bent on killing Cass: she believes Cass is out to kill her, just like she killed Harper’s mother. Cass is having none of that and neither is Dick, who is doing his best to protect Cass. Things get a little more complicated when Dick finds out that his former rogue partner, Poppy, is waiting just behind one of the doors, so he focuses his attention on her while Jason and Cass dodge Harper. I Do Not Kill: 2

Jason eventually tries to talk some sense into Harper, but unfortunately Cass hallucinates that he is Cain and tases both of them. Ouch.

Meanwhile, Tim, Helena and the Spyral doctor from last issue go to shut down Hypnos, but are ambushed by Cain. Helena stays behind to battle him, not knowing that this is exactly what Cain and Poppy wanted. They use the voice recognition from Dick and Helena to activate the Somnus satellite and we find out that Mother is still alive. Tim manages to shut down Spyral’s system and Cain and Poppy evacuate.

We then jump ahead in time to Dick and Helena discussing the clean-up and mentioning that Cain took Harper and Cass while Dick and Jason were knocked out and Mother still has the Somnus codes. You know, like you do in passing conversation. Helena reveals that Somnus was her idea and one half of the codes was in her Spyral implants and the other half in Dick’s. The satellite was only supposed to be used to wipe knowledge of Dick Grayson’s identity as Nightwing from the world, if he ever wished to return to being Dick Grayson. I still say it was a terrible idea.

In any case, the issue ends with Damian arriving. I guess we’re finally getting the “Robin” portion of Batman & Robin Eternal. You know… 20 issues into the thing.

I know exactly what you mean. Personally I don't really like pink but I will defend anyones right to like it without judgement despite what gender they are.

I'm drawn to darker colours as well because I'm a bit dramatic and i feel like they reflect my insides better as I usually have a bright and positive personality outwardly.

I was supposed to be born 10th of june but I guess I didn't feel like it. June isn't too far away from april. as I usually say, I'm never far.

Basics

Title : Somnus and Lumus, Twin Gods of the Depths

Domain : Battlefields and the paths travelers use.

Alignment : Neutral, toeing Chaotic.

Residence : Anywhere they can make home, usually these two are seen as nomads on some level. They are often in constant flux.

Appearance

Disposition : Somnus is a trickster, playful and generous. Lumus is serious and hopeful, although his kindness is not unspoken of. The twins, overall, are merciful. Not inclined to harm others unless doing battle. Although they are not the type to pick sides, but when called upon and offered well enough.. they will bestow blessings within reason.

Weaponry : Bows and Arrows, usually astral in nature.

Powers : Bestowing strength during moments that seem impossible, helping those lost in their travels to find their way back. Able to heal and bestow healing abilities. Able to ensure fertility and ease of emergence for creations.

Attire : The twins are often seen either in their warrior form, thick plating. Somnus is as dark as the night and Lumus is as bright as the day. Another common form is that of Younglings. Although the twins have very little problem imitating mortal mecha, Somnus is infamous for his shape shifting for the sake of the fun.

Patronage : Of warriors and travelers. Symbolic flora : Paper Birch, Moss, Weeping Willows and Sunflowers. Symbolic fauna : Migrating animals, commonly birds and some insects such as butterflies and moths. Symbolic satellite : Mercury Symbolic gemstone : Rhodochrosite, the stone of love and healing. Symbolic consumable : Favored offering(s) : Art or art tools (Lumus), knickknacks containing precious metals or favorable stones (Somnus), objects containing significant value to the owner (both). Favored blessing(s) : Gifts of strength and wonder.

Batman & Robin Eternal Vol 1 19: Spyraling Down

Issue 19. Teenagers all over town are starting to turn into crazed killers shouting “Mother” as the Ichthys algorithm takes hold and holy cow, I had no idea that Dick’s Spyral contact is Helena Bertinelli. Ok. Anyway, she shouts at Cass, but Dick reminds her that none of this is Cass’ fault. Turns out Mother wants Somnus, Spyral’s mind-wiping satellite that could transfer the algorithm to the entire world in one swoop. Unfortunately, Tim and Cass also fall under Mother’s spell and start attacking Helena and Dick. Turns out the Ichthys algorithm really is age-dependent, which just makes the fact that it affected Jason earlier all the more confusing.

Tim eventually uses what little sanity he has left to tell them that fear gas could counter the effects and, oh look! What miraculous luck! Spyral has some. *rolls eyes* It works, even though there are still some messed up side effects. Dick takes Cassandra with him to find Jason and Harper, since he admits she’s one of the best fighters he knows (although he does call her crazy in the same sentence, so I take it with a grain of salt). Little Lady Of War: 7

Speaking of those two, Jason finds Harper in the room with Cain, but she’s also hearing the algorithm and aims a gun at him. The fight between them ends in a draw and David Cain’s escape. They are “saved” by a group of crazy teenagers who chase after Cain, since they are pretty much programmed to kill anything that moves. They wake up some time later and are in the middle of fighting off some of the crazy girls when Dick and Cass arrive. Cass puts a gas mask on Harper and we get to see her greatest fear: a demonized Cass perching over Miranda Row’s corpse. Yikes. Predictably, Harper attacks Cass.
