your christmas hcs are SO cute! i love thinking about how much jaeyoung's family loves sangwoo. if jaeyoung had a younger sibling im sure they would absolutely adore him and sangwoo would team up with them once in a while to play a fun trick on jaeyoung. and jaeyoung's dad finally has someone that can compete with him in chess and defeats him. i also like to think that sangwoo actually loves baking bc he did it with his mom growing up and its easier than cooking since its more precise <3
omg I love the idea of Jaeyoung's siblings teaming up with sangwoo! jaeyoung would act so shocked and offended but inside he'd be all warm and happy 🥺🥺 and oh my gosh yes! sangwoo and Jaeyoung's dad spend like a literal three hours playing chess and jaeyoung is like "sangwoo-ahhhh I brought you home to spend time with me 😔" and sangwoo is just totally focused! Jaeyoung's dad ends up winning the first match but it was incredibly close and they have a rematch/make it a tradition to play every time sangwoo visits for a weekend/holiday (and they are evenly matched so sangwoo wins the next one, etc).
and oh! I love the baking hc!! I totally see sangwoo enjoying baking because it needs careful measurements and is so methodical plus yes-- it's also is a warm memory (omg with our?? amazing parents hc what if the mom found a hobby or way to channel Sangwoo's need for rigidity as a little kid! plus it's kinda the same idea as video games-- you have to put effort in and that effort is rewarded 🥺) I did have sangwoo having a sweet tooth as a thing in Flex On Me and I like the idea of him cooking and jaeyoung-- omg jaeyoung just randomly but regularly gets treats from sangwoo! sangwoo will just show up to jaeyoungs with a Tupperware container of cookies and jaeyoung is perplexed at first before he realizes! and sangwoo makes Christmas cookies with Jaeyoung 🥺 and he's so careful about it and jaeyoung respects his process and is so happy to be allowed to participate and sangwoo totally kisses him more than he should but well the cookies need to cool before they can ice them 🥺🥺

the way sangwoo views sex is so intriguing to me. he honestly isn't as sexually driven as most people seem to assume he is. rather, he's focused on what sex represents to him. he uses it as a way to feel in control and secure with himself. after bum kills jieun, sangwoo fucks him as a way to establish that despite bum gaining some power over someone in a way, sangwoo is still above him. when sangwoo refuses to suck dick, that's not just him trying to dodge the gay allegations. rather, doing so would be putting himself in a position of submission, and therefore making himself weak.
meanwhile, bum is absolutely seeking a more traditional sexual relationship and is unaware of sangwoo's perspective.
i hate how people talk about him calling bum mom during sex because everyone just sees it as a kinky thing and ignores the fact that the whole chapter is like a waking ptsd nightmare. leading up to that, there's so many parallels between bum and eunseo. he's wearing her old apron, he asks to call sangwoo by the same romantic nickname eunseo used to use on him, and other subtle things that would tie the two together.
leading up to this, sangwoo has been going THROUGH IT thinking about his childhood in general and why his life led up to this point. a lot of this centers around his mom. his childhood was full of emotional incest, sexual abuse, witnessing domestic violence, and just general awful treatment from his mother who he cared too much about to refuse.
because sangwoo has been tweaking for days over this, he insists on not making eye contact while he has sex with yoon bum. not only that, but just not seeing his face whatsoever. people normally say that's also because he's dodging the gay allegations, but it's because bum looks like his mom. sangwoo wants to have sex in order to establish some sort of control and feel in power over the idea of his mother. but bum switches to a position where he is on top of sangwoo, the same position he was in when his mom sexually assaulted him.
so when he calls bum mom, it's because sangwoo is now in a position of submission. he's scared. the only person who was ever able to force him into that mindset was his mother. since then, he's been so adamant on avoiding that feeling that he'd kill and torture people solely to remind himself he isn't weak.

I know i'm very late to the party and this fandom is basicly dead. BUT-
I noticed something while i read through chapter 55.
Where Sangwoo and his mom bury his dead father. First they buy some apples on the way. As we can see there's 4.
She makes him eat a apple, or at least take one bite out of it.
She one out of her pocket, that has cleary been eaten a bit.
And when they get home there's only 3. Wich means the apple she took out of her pocket is the same one Sangwoo bit. She left it by the body. SHE WAS LEAVING DNA, IN CASE SOMEONE FOUND THE BODY. SHE WAS GONNA FRAME SANWOO FOR HIS FATHER'S DEATH.
Idk if anybody already saw this or talked about this. But i did not know i was gonna find another reason to hate this woman.

I've been having KS on my mind, so here are some out-of-pocket headcanons (mainly about the side characters)
Tw: Homophobia, implied sexual content, sexual harassment, child injury, bullying, depression, disordered eating, PTSD, self-harm
Sangwoo killed nine women prior to the CEO'S daughter
Sangwoo picking of his victims varies. Sometimes it's because they're easy to get, sometimes it's because the victim pisses him off, sometimes they resemble his mom, and sometimes he thinks the world would be better off without them. The first one was an elderly lady who found Eunseo's corpse.
Sangwoo didn't kill every woman he dated/slept with. He has about 5 serious exes (One he killed when she found a tied-up victim of his.
Bum is a frequent user of dcinside, a forum site. He's usually on the dating advice side of things, he's usually a nuisance to the other user.
Kwak's son died in a traffic accident. Due to him and his ex wife divorcing (work got in the way), they don't see each other that much.
Seokho's ex-wife would have accepted if just told her Seokho he was gay (she would be confused at first but wouldn't harbor any resentment), she mainly was betrayed by his cheating, lying, and spending a considerable amount of money at the bars.
The bartender from the second gay bar and Seokho were friends from the military plus he was one of the few who attended his funeral.
Seokho's family practically disowned him not only for his infidelity but because he was gay
Seokho's family was generally strict and conservative which made him feel like he had to lie
Seokho was selfish in his encounters, usually rushing and pressuring his partners into sex before moving on to the next man.
He tried to get his act together with Sangwoo such as stopping himself when he noticed that Sangwoo was distressed and asking Sangwoo if he was going too fast.
Jieun and Donggyu were childhood friends. Their moms was friends and they grew to like each.
Their friendship wasn't entirely wholesome. You know those stock bully characters. That was them. Donggyu would steal people's food, kick them around, spray them with water guns and pull girl's hair while Jieun would make mean names for kids she saw as behind her (eg; they were ugly, acted oddly, smelled bad, or plain jealousy on her part.)
Jieun was actually serious about Sangwoo. All the boyfriends she had prior to him were more or less flings.
Choker Boy (Ro Kun-Won) is relatively plain and quiet in his day-to-day life.
The ski mom and her kid did survive their attack. The son woke up and got help.
Jieun's mother grew extremely depressed after her daughter's murder to the point that she barely ate and didn't have the energy to cry when identifying her daughter's body
Ski mom had trouble identifying her attacker since Sangwoo was wearing a mask, one of her eyes was bloodshot, and his hair wasn't showing. His eyes were his only identifying marker.
Both the ski mom and ski kid suffered psychological trauma from their attack. The ski mom was repeatedly questioned and accused of lying for attention even as going to court and showing evidence. The ski kid blames himself for getting them in the situation in the first place and suffers nightmares and self-harm due to guilt.
The Ceo's daughter was a massive goal for Sangwoo. He thought it he could kill her and get away with it, he could do anything.
Sam-Kyung (My fan name for the Ceo's daughter) show of "arrogance" was when she said that Sangwoo's house was a bit plain (as a joke)
Sam-Kyung only used her status as the CEO's daughter when Sangwoo was going to kill her, She and her father's relationship is a bit strained.

Dean [Until We Meet Again & Between Us] - I do not remember seeing this, but I have the picture, so it must've happened. It’s a compass on his hip because he was lost without Phram and always looking for direction.
Win [Until We Meet Again & Between Us] – We will hopefully find out something next month when the series begins, but even if we don’t, we can still appreciate that these are henna including those angel wings.
Jang JaeYoung [Semantic Error] - Does it have meaning? As he stated in the series, “Not really. I just liked it” but I'm seeing an eclipse thanks to Ayan's hoodie.
Chu SangWoo [Semantic Error] – Hand drawn by JaeYoung, and it is the first image JaeYoung ever drew for him when they first met in the episode one.
Black/White [Not Me] – White had to get it because Black had it, and Black had it because..no idea, but it could symbolize death or strength.
Yok [Not Me] – Mandarin on the flank means mom, but the birds and the forearm one, no idea.
Tonhon [Tonhon Chonlatee] – “An anchor is what a navigator or sailor uses to hold his vessel to the ocean. Tonhon means a navigator. That’s why I had this anchor tattooed on my left chest to remind me that my heart will not drift away. It will be with the ocean and that is your name, Chonlatee, forever. Every time I look at it, it reminds me that I have you in my heart all the time.”
Kamol [Unforgotten Night] – I didn’t watch this, so I’m guessing that it was because he had pet tigers, and I'm fine believing that.
Mangkorn [Big Dragon] – Mangkorn means dragon, and he is the dragon (Yang) to Yai’s tiger (Yin).
Porsche [KinnPorsche] – A phoenix because that was his underground fighting alias, fire is his friend (he gets the fire started in the woods, he starts a fire in his first week on the job, he smokes), his mom used to tell him stories about the phoenix rising from the ashes, his color in the series is yellow, and he is the phoenix/fire (Yang) to Kinn’s tortoise/water personality (Yin - he's like his mom).
Pete [KinnPorsche] – “No legacy is so rich as honesty” is from Shakespeare’s comedy All’s Well That Ends Well, which is about a woman of lower rank trying to marry the man she loves who is of a higher rank. The quote shows not only to live an honest life (in a play full of dishonesty), but to be honest with oneself, something that Pete does in the end when…you know.
Ram [My Engineer] – Has a dream catcher on his neck to chase away bad dreams, a wolf on his arm, a tribal turtle on his shoulder, and a few others.
Forth [2 Moons 2] – Actor’s actual tattoo. Might be a Sak Yant tattoo for good fortune.
Sarawat [2gether] – Actor’s actual tattoo. I think it was something about remembering who you are.
Gene [Lovely Writer] - Actor's actual tattoo. A family portrait. Thanks @calipigio

Hello this is basically a long post about me sorting through my feelings about bad buddy and why it means so much to me.
So over the past few weeks ( i first watched the show 7 weeks ago) ive been trying to figure out what exactly about bad buddy and patpran in particular have got me so inexplicably fond and devoted to them and apart from the usual answers of great writing, directing, performances and the best most electric chemistry and banter known to humankind, i did arrive at couple of other answers too.
First of all pat and (especially) pran are deep and well rounded characters.
Their worlds feel lived in and real.
Their feelings and thoughts and motivations are of course excellently portrayed by both ohm and nanon. and they gave representation to queer people everywhere. pat being the pan/ bi king he is and pran being the gayest babyboy warrior poet ever. pran especially given his repressed nature and emotional closed-off-ness is somebody a lot of people surely saw themselves in, including myself. seeing myself represented like that starting off the way he is and then taking small steps one by one over the course of the whole show (and over years in the show's universe) to arrive at the more assured, more open, more ready to be vulnerable (but still very much the pran we all loved in the first episode itself) was so wonderful to see.
The fact that the show happens in a non homophobic universe doesnt take away from just how special it was seeing queer characters fall, be and stay in love. and most importantly that they got their happy ending (i wont be hearing anything against this cos the ending was happy, despite the slightly bittersweet tinge of it, it was happy and there shall be no counter arguments begone i cant with that)
That episode 12 gave a glimpse of their future.
A world where pat will one day be able to sit with pran in his house eating food made by dissaya. that pran and pat's mom work on a common hobby together cos why not. a world where they no longer have to hide, a world were they could well and truly thrive.
Its so so important as queer people that we get representation and that in a world that is often cruel to the likes of us especially here in asia, that we see happy adult queer lives, where they can be in love in the most mundane of ways.
Patpran and bad buddy gave us that and i will forever be thankful for it.
That still doesn't capture exactly why i rate them as a couple so so highly in my head.
So i thought of patpran in the context of all the other love stories i could possibly remember watching. i thought of some of my top favourite couples - mondler, phil & claire, schmidt & cece, peraltiago, leslie & ben, jack & rebecca, randall & beth, simon & wilhelm, jaeyong & sangwoo, ji hyun & jaewon, bai lang & xun an, tara & darcy, sumi & rimjhim and so so many more and what stood out for me when it came to patpran was that they were the one couple out of all these couples i adore who didnt let anything get between them once they got together.
Every other couple among the ones ive listed have had jobs or other relationships or distance or parents or workplace rules /etiquette or circumstances or the royalty standing in between their love and as a result causing the couple to break apart ( a couple of episodes for mondler to seasons of confusion for peraltiago and schmidt & cece etc) even if briefly.
Except for phil & claire (who btw wasnt even sure about marrying phil when she did) almost none of these couples got together and stayed together throughout their relationship. and yes i agree that a lot of these obstacles and circumstances are very real and taxing and no wonder people chose their own peace at least for a while to deal with everything BUT i just cant help feel more appreciative of pat pran even more cos these two 19 year olds figured this whole thing out faster than any of those full grown adults did.
And yes its fictional and maybe even unrealistic (given the kind of relationships i see irl) yet patpran really do deserve all the love they get. they do deserve a lot of props.
Its not like they didn't have adverse obstacles standing in their way, they had to fight against their families years and years of lies and all the intergenerational trauma and their faculty rivalry and a shitty friend who outed them and any single one of these should have caused at least 12 episodes worth of conflict and miscommunication in any other couple.
And yes i do recognise that bbs didnt have the luxury of time or multiple seasons but they could have kept them apart for a whole episode at least, i was convinced we were in for that at the end of episode 8 as the aftermath of wai outing them. like there is no way the relationship comes out of it unscathed ( i thought! ). and while im sure they personally were rattled and betrayed (pran more so), instead of blaming anybody else or each other they actually chose to handle it together, they worked together and chose to move forward together.
The fact that such a terrible experience instead of breaking them apart actually reaffirmed to both pat and pran just how much their relationship means to the both of them, that they come out of it actually stronger??
i was friggin shook to my core.
And then came the gunshots and the family finding out and the running away and the coming back and the fake breakup and the pressures of all of this should have been enough to drive a serious wedge between any two characters, especially at their age and lack of experience. and yet??? and yet at each obstacle they get up, they draw the other closer and they get down to working on it together again.
Over and over and over and over again.
So for me what separates patpran from everybody else is the fact that ever since they got together, they have chosen eo, intentionally, that has made the difference.
Pat and pran's story may have been destined ( i personally don't know if i believe in destiny). they may have been born neighbours and felt unexplainable intense feelings (that later turned to love) for the other but when it came down to it, at its core, bad buddy soars when the two come together and they choose to keep being together, despite everything that stands in their way.
Love is a choice. love is a sacrifice. but its also a sacrifice and a choice they made for themselves and for each other and above all for their relationship.
Almost all the couples mentioned above arrive at similar destinations but they arrive at it with years of experience and years of struggle. i just cant help marvel at our teenagers who did love better than whole ass adults double their age could.
And more importantly above the awe i feel inspired and hopeful because they showed me that there's always a choice. thats there's always another option. you dont need to get out of your comfort zone. but you also dont need to be in the comfort zone always. you dont need to keep lying to yourself. you dont need to hide every single part of you. there are always other options. there is always a choice.
That hope is not just a noun its also very much a verb. That you and i and each one of us can make that choice.
That if ever i choose to partner up with someone and if we do proper healthy communication (patpran invented healthy communication and consent btw, they deserve EVERYTHING for just that but thats a whole other post) prioritizing the relationship where it mattered, i too could have something ( even remotely) like their love.
For the first time in my life probably i felt like that kind of love was attainable for me if i wanted to pursue it. They gave me hope. and they gave me joy. and i will never not be unbelievably grateful for it.

thinking about how the only reason that we have any context as to sangwoo's backstory is through his own mental flashbacks. despite the story being very much so through yoon bum's pov, it had to be told through sangwoo in order to even mention his past. the only times he even talks about it are deeply vague or solely to be shocking. even the stuff he says to be depressing is insanely surface level (his dad beating his mom). yoon bum got no closure. he barely even knew about sangwoo. sangwoo knew bum's whole deal immediately because that twink is the yapper and instantly dropped a linear lore timeline after sangwoo took him out of the basement.
sangwoo literally managed to kidnap the dude's uncle and kill him. bum got sangwoo saying he killed his own parents, he doesn't want to become like his dad, someone (it isn't mentioned that it's his mom) said he'd die gruesomely, and that his mom is dead in the walls. there's a small hint of sangwoo's mom being abusive with him calling bum mom during sex that one time, but that was in such a specific context to where i don't think bum got it tbh. nobody else knew either, so that died with sangwoo. there wasn't even a chance of anything being settled well.
the reason it seems like bum knew more about sangwoo is that he somehow had a parasocial relationship with a dude he lived with. he was so obsessed with sangwoo that he glossed over the fact that they're basically strangers.
