Made some shot glasses with the MSA Ghost skull emblem and spiky vines. Messed up a little and got kind of terrible overspray going on. Didn't mask off high enough nor was careful enough with the airstream direction while sandblasting, so there's some obvious frosting on the insides of three of them, and some less obvious but there-if-you-know-what-to-look-for on a fourth. One each of the big-skull-some-vines and small-skull-more-vines turned out fine.

Made these over a year ago, but didn't photograph them until today.

Mine is the dense biozone, i love the unique plant-life (especially the big leaves that lift you up) + the big brain rocks, also the colour scheme is the most pleasing to me and it's cool when you dig and the dirt has red and blue on different facets it makes it look shimmery.

ALSO also the winding pits I like traveling up and down them making paths on the sides (also the thrill of one wrong move, and i plummet to my doom (THOSE WALLS ARE SLIPPERY)).

🥰 anka and i are sharing a prion disease right now so we're rewatching the JJBA OVA. and okay. maybe it was the weed but i think it might be... i think it's my favourite thing ever made. that's ever existed. for all time. it's my favourite thing that exists. my favourite thing that Is. it really does makes me feel exactly like the ending of HEAT... LOL and i'm serious about this. it's like a stun gun or like being sandblasted where i'm shot outside of my body helpless to what's happening. horrible feeling and i love it very much.

and i feel soooooooo fucking VINDICATED because i dug deep into japanese forums + blogs and found people celebrating it ;__; there are discussions from this year (2024) even! people agree that it's gorgeous and that if you're going to watch (or even read) any version, it should be this one. that it rewards you on rewatches... which is true. every time i see it, i find something new, some extra bit of care that goes toward the structure of the mood. so many subtle movements in the acting, so much elegance to the balance of exposition in the dialogue. mainly in the japanese version, but it's not like it's lost in the english dub, just different. the voice actors did an amazing job with tone— notably there's this shaky tightness in Jotaro's voice during moments of fear/stress that enhances his expressions, actions.

i found people talking about the tension, acting, a wonderful review on the use of shifting, dynamic lighting throughout the OVA, the way the sound design— engineered by Skywalker Sound with score by a very young (~19) Marco D'Ambrosio— fills in SO MUCH for the animation with tasteful specificity in implying things like unique weight for footsteps, for Avdol's rings, or how the sound of Geb is like a strange layered scream. and fortunately found many people talking about being in awe of n'doul's humanity and how he has serious rizz lol and that he, in any version, is the only serious sobering moment of the glory gods... WAAAAH then i come on twitter or whatever and people are like "looks like shit, worst fight in the thing," and it's like jesus h. christ get a LIFE. i'm sorry you were tricked and lied to, but bad taste can be fixed if you just open your heart a little.

i do not feel moved whatsoever to watch the rest of the TV series (i made it up to the hunting episode of DIU.) something can be faithful and also a major downgrade, by intending to be as faithful as possible, misses the elements that make it what it is. besides, modern anime looks like real shit right now and i won't force myself through it solely because it exists. but i love this adaptation. i would rather see a beautiful interpretation that prioritises an effective, effecting mood, that tries to compromise with purpose and synthesise the source into what an animated version— the short film that this is— can do for it. what the form can heighten. there are little movements, upticks in speed or anxious stillness. the breathless timing and gravity of jotaro touching down and star platinum ripping right out of him like a major leaguer performing another major league hit. n'doul reacting to iggy, jumping slightly while kneeling. jotaro wiping off his fingers with a hanky and then rubbing them together. the entire scene with polnareff on the crates. oh GOD and the opening with the inverted sun... the cane... the cane scene cannot Not destroy you, be honest.

why did they include the red granite obelisk, notably from aswan, one of which was at one time commissioned by hadrian for his boyfriend antinous who drowned in the nile? that didn't have to be there, but isn't it beautiful? (and they put the eye hieroglyph right where we can see it... uuugh.) never mind the actual canonical content, with jotaro and n'doul mutually captivated, delighted, by each other's skill until the end. it's so painful knowing the inevitable outcome but it still somehow sneaks up on you with the way it's paced and i love to be rocked by it every time. the only guy ever to be spared on purpose— respecting him that much! and the respect is mutual! jesus, his monologue! he's the only one to be mourned. THE only one to be buried. by hand. alone. the fight begins under high noon sun and the burial completes at dusk. he's 17. fuck me.

i love when a story is never allowed to fully wrap up into the typical "and it was all worth it!" sort of vibe, which, in a way, is what happens, but it never rises to the point where... where that positivity matches the intensity of what was shown to you previously, or that those losses are meant to be forgotten in the wake of righteousness. and as far as i can recall, this is something araki has perfected over time. i'm thinking about the brutal bit in DIU with josuke carrying? dragging? okuyasu, and the particulars of kira's fate. but i'm REALLY thinking of VA, with giorno &co. in the office, and the epilogue. and then obviously SO. and then SBR. and JJL. this approach, the bittersweet heartache or outright mourning, has become a precise weapon and i can see the through-line from SDC. now that i've watched HEAT i can see why araki said that he cries every time he watches it. it's wrenching. and a big part of that is that you don't necessarily expect it because of genre or style flourishes, and that's really special. to be caught unawares, because you were already caught, you've been caught this whole time and now you have to take it.

i now know that yeah. yes. this is The definition of a special interest. because i have to, must, rotate this object in my head compulsively and purposefully so i can see every angle and crevice. i intuitively understand that i shouldn't be so bowled over and bitchy about it after so many years, sooo many years, but i can't help it! you like what you like and this is the benchmark. it pains me that it is so finite. that i've confusingly hung my heart on something that no one on earth could give one (1) solitary fuck about, and therefor there is an abrupt end to material. so i AM left rotating shapes in my head sussing out indentations in the form. kinda crazy. but fighting against it is maybe more punishing in a way.

this fight was chosen as the opening to the OVA because it's one where everyone is present. this fight was also going to be the entirety of the OVA, but araki liked it so much he requested more episodes 🥰💕

jamie and luke’s meeting when they became a child didn’t actually turn out very well. but honda and dhalsim’s reunion turned out to be an emotional experience. as they both tell their stories on how they’re doing in their afterlife, the young ones would always cause a big fight like rivals. but as the years come by, i’m sure that the new sun and moon will get along as friends and discover each other’s stories.

I saw this and my brain went "Sauron. It's about Sauron, you have to do Sauron." I don't even care about Sauron that much. Why am I feeling emotions about mr eyeball man?? So.

Sauron put everything into The Ring that made him more Mairon (more Annatar) than Dark Lord, less monster than person. His soul is in it, but Sauron can control it even when it gets lost. And then it gets destroyed, Sauron no longer has his life support, and a screaming Mairon who's been along for the whole ride but managed to get all the Morals in the divorce gets spit out of Mt Doom beside two nearly-dead hobbits, more person than monster in a way he hasn't been since before the Trees. The eagles take him because they don't want to just leave Sauron there, and he doesn't protest getting locked up because getting sandblasted by the realization of every awful thing you've done in your life does that to you.

What follows is basically a "what do you do if Vader lives?" scenario, except Mairon might be having 12 different crises but he still has enough pride to be visibly offended if you call him Sauron in ear-shot. They haul him off to Valinor (ahead of the Ringbearers, they aren't risking that) to be judged by the Valar- who are trying to be better about locking people up for ages of the world, and there's the issue that Mairon is literally not the same person he was when he Committed War Crimes++. He's still accountable but the situation must be considered, they say, and shove him with Melian to do community service because she showed enough interest in her brother's fate that he's her problem now. Everyone else has Opinions On This, Mairon is cycling through the stages of grief faster than you can blink, and Melian is going to deeply enjoy rubbing her dearest daughter's accomplishments in her brother's face (she is the only person remotely happy with this scenario)

Mostly it's just Vibes after this, but there'd be an epilogue with reconciled Silvergifting and Celebrimbor calling him Mairanya to Mairon's profound delight embarrassment.

And you try keeping it all in fancy paint in the middle of an open area like that where it must be nearly sandblasted during storms, and hey kid, you guys were so poor you got thrown out of your apartment! Oh come on! Yeah, lady, I get he abandoned your family, but for all you really know there may be photos. For all we know there are tons of photo alblums! You walk into one room of one house and decide there are “no photos”? I have NEVER in my life lived with photos up on the walls. Is that a thing? Does everyone else need to keep photos up everywhere, or shrine style, around them to know what they and their loved ones look like? Did I never get the “no photos up means something wrong with you” memo?

Alright, so the house is mostly empty, but what is there looks very cool!! BOOKS! Did you see that tower of books?! And there are boxes, gizmos, little statues…This is good stuff! I love exploring interesting stuff!

The house looks in good shape, no holes in the floor or obvious leaks, unbroken windows, no sign of decay actually, and what little is there is organized, neat, and easily moved into an attic or other disused space when you move in! They have a free, cool, spacious house and they still aren’t happy??

That’s it. I HATE those two! Can I endure a movie where these folks are going to bitch about moving into a house I’d happily move into myself?? If they keep whining I am totally out!

Been a while since I've posted anything here. Bullet list of stuff that's been happening lately

Got diagnosed with sleep apnea (my uncle on my dad's side also has it)

Came up with a shit ton of art goals for the year but haven't started (bc lazy)

Been on a watching YouTube content creators kick. It's still mostly video games (been watching lots of Gab) but I also got into restoration videos, particularly a guy named Chip who collects and restores old, rusted tonka and other vehicles. His channel is called Chip's Restorations and he's great (sandblasting away rust and paint is so satisfying)

I mostly use Bluesky since it's a replacement for Twitter and the atmosphere and support system is so nice. I originally wanted one to post my art to but I support lots of other cool artists as well

My therapy office has a program to help people like me get jobs with my specifications since severe chronic depression and anxiety prohibits me from being confident enough to apply to any jobs out in the public eye. The woman I spoke to is an elderly lady and she is super sweet, so I have an appointment with her next week to get the ball rolling

I really like my therapist. She's the only one I've been to since my high school days that actually does a great job at pushing me forward and giving sound advice. She even looked up and found a Zoom group for lgbtqia+ people that I could get in touch with. My therapist has been overly supportive and I appreciate her a lot

I decided to take on a major art project where I create an ultimate equine lineart pack that can be bought for $10, and there will be a free sample for those who don't have the money. It'll have horses, unicorns and alicorns, and pegasi in various poses, hair and tails, accessories, wings, and so on. I'm currently working on the sketch stage of the basic poses

I'm trying to get into digital art restoration but so far I've only gotten stuff from my sister since I asked her to get the exact dimensions of some kids' building blocks that I saw when I visited my sister's in November. I found a few antique-ish photos of people selling old junk toys on ebay that I can use for examples, but it's hard finding more

I have a rescue Pitty named Stella, who was born and used in a puppy mill for the first 2 years of her life. The family that originally adopted her couldn't keep her bc their youngest is allergic to dogs, so they gave her to a family member who couldn't keep her bc one of her boy dogs didn't like Stella. She got attached to me almost instantly, so she's officially my dog and I love her!

I think that's all I have to report. I'll let you know how the job search goes!

TBH to me, (English ver. at least) Neo Shiki... basically only exists in the narrative to be Neku's reward girlfriend motivation first and an actual character second.

Narratively, most of her plot importance comes from Neku. She's his 'reason to return', basically his 'reward' after being trapped in the UG for years, and the one thing she does that's even vaguely plot relevant in Neo unconnected to him happens completely offscreen.

It feels like all traits that didn't make her a sweet and docile 'perfect girlfriend' were sandblasted away. You're telling me that Shiki, of all people, wouldn't even try to bust her way back into the UG to try and find Neku? You're telling me that this gal, with the drive and determination to start her own business, wouldn't be brave enough to face down the UG again for the guy she's supposed to love?

Narratively, it's just a weird fucking choice to have almost everyone else from the OG game working to bring Neku back while Shiki just. Doesn't. That her role is to just sit and wait and stay passively out of the way so Neku has something pretty and demure to come back to.

Also feels like all her relationships to any other character she had in OG twewy are completely gutted. Eri isn't even mentioned, Beat acts like he's never seen Mr. Mew before in his life, and Joshua talks about her but it's like no one else even remembers she exists outside of being Neku's Girl. Like her whole social circle disappeared when Neku did and her having any other relationships more important than her romantic one with him would be a betrayal of some sort.

Where are basically any of the traits she had in the first game that made her multi dimensional? Where is literally fucking anything that would make her something more than the Generic Perfectly Sweet Love Interest Girl? Where are her fucking friends? Her social life outside of waiting for Neku? Literally anything about her besides her business and the fact she's 'Neku's Girl'?

It's never a matter of "if" one should swaddle themselves in denim, but rather "how" one should wear it, and for spring/summer 2023, denim fashions cover the range, satisfying all sartorial desires. To summarise, Kate Moss led the charge in a pair of Bottega Veneta denim illusion, printed leather pants, signifying the return of casual comfort. Wide, loose jeans were also seen on the runways of Chloé, where they were paired with tie detailing, Jacquemus, and Givenchy, where design director Matthew Williams gave them a real Y2K sandblast wash. Denim cargo variants were also shown by the latter, while designers at Burberry, MM6, Masha Popova, and Alaa gave the denim maxi skirt concept legs. The desire for everything denim is at an all-time high. According to Libby Page, market director at Net-A-Porter.com, "denim has truly cemented itself as a luxury wardrobe staple in recent seasons." Denim has been a cornerstone of the retailer's online business, and buyers are already coveting this season's maxi skirt trend. "We have invested in nine styles from both the runway and true denim brands, working hard to scout out the perfect fit, length, and wash for quality over quantity."

The customer's attention at Browns Fashion is firmly centred on the wardrobe classic. "The fashion consumer is looking for something easy and casual to help them transition back into everyday life, and our denim sales over the last few seasons reflect that," says Holly Tenser, the department store's womenswear buying manager. "Margiela's cut-out wide leg denim has continuously sold out for the last few years, and more designers are expanding their denim offering as it's a great way to buy into luxury brands at a more accessible price-point for aspirational customers." Jeannie Lee, Selfridges' head of womenswear buying, agrees, noting a 37% year-on-year growth in denim sales, owing in part to premium companies investing in the blue industry. What is the takeaway? If you only buy one thing for spring, make it denim. Here are the denim styles for spring/summer 2023 that are sure to get you compliments.

The denim maxi skirt:

You might blame the dramatic drop in hemline lengths on the falling stock market, but let's simply accept it for what it is: a trend. The 2023 re-invention of the denim maxi by Stefan Cook, Alaa, and Burberry, last seen during the height of Sienna Miller's bohemian phase, adds glossy sheen.

"Throughout the shows, we saw a variety of denim wardrobing styled in an elevated way, from Altuzarra's maxi denim skirts paired with cropped knits," Julia Ferrar, buyer at Matchesfashion.com, says.

Extra legroom:

This news has even reached the Love Island villa: thin jeans are out, at least for the time being. Instead, the current design cycle is filled with extra baggy - and extra comfy - styles that are nearly de rigeur among the fashion set. Have you explored the world of slouchy denim yet? Look to Khaite, Jacquemus, and Cecilie Bahnsen, who unveiled her first denim collection on the runway this season in Paris with hand-appliqued embellishments on enhanced tonal double denim sets. "This was such an exciting development to witness," Ferrar adds. "Each season she goes from strength to strength and continues to show us her breadth as a designer."

In the mood for blue… but make it Y2k.

Denim has been distressed, low-slung, sandwashed, patterned, and studded for the new millennium. While this may make some people cringe, designers have refined this retro to make it more palatable. Printed pants peeked out from beneath Molly Goddard's iconic cream-puff skirts, while Nensi Dojaka offered two-tone trousers paired with a bra and jacket. We also saw a modified version of Lee McQueen's notorious bumster jeans from 1993 at Alexander McQueen.

The denim dress:

The London design duo behind KNWLS sent nu-supermodel Alva Claire down the runway in a washed-out maxi, leaving us yearning for denim dresses. Thankfully, several designers followed suit: Monot showed a strapless, complete denim gown (take notice, Britney Spears), while Alaa's off-the-shoulder garment made a solid argument for red carpet denim. And there was a do-it-all minidress from Caroline Herrera that soared to the top of the fashion editor's summer vacation wishlist.

How Juditch Schaechter's stained glass practice helped me develop a better sensibility of the connection between glass and printmaking.

One of the most surprising things about my experience at Tyler so far has been my recent development and love for glass as a medium to work with. I'm currently taking an Imagery in Glass class where I started exploring playing with flash glass, a type of glass made by blowing a hollow clear form with a thin layer of color on the outside. It is then cut open and slumped flat into sheets. My exploration and playing with sandblasting and layering this material led me to learning about Judith Schaechter's work - LITERALLY the queen of stained glass.

Judith's art reminds me so much of printmaking, mostly mezzotint like etchings and drawings done via lithographic process. What I didn't realize is how closely her practice mimics some of the printmaking language and processes that print based artists are constantly using. You can learn more about the nitty gritty of her process via her youtube channel, which has tons of videos including demos of how her work is made. You should do a deep dive if you are interested.

So how does she do it? There are two major formal techniques that she works with that are actually somewhat traditional and inherent to stained glass works.

She works in layers by sandblasting and engraving through the outer colored layers of the glass to create tonal images. These images when stacked create a full range of colors and transparencies, a logic that is similar to the way we think of prints.

Texturizing and engraving the glass has a physical process so similar to carving a woodblock or drawing with mezzotint. This action and way of thinking can feel very familiar to print based artists, often an easier skill for printmakers to pick up on.

It's incredibly surprising how the history of stained glass mimics so much of the ethos of printmaking and how these formal techniques help me contextualize it as a print adjacent medium.
