Last touches on "Still ill", a duo of postcard pieces for the "Wish You Were Here" show at @sallycentigrade gallery next month. It was meant to be a small series of 3 works but I grew very dissatisfied with the third one. The show theme gravitates around the emotions stirred by the covid pandemic. I thought about how eye contact (or their lack thereof) gained a different meaning as communication tool. The songs of The Smiths and their frequent theme of loneliness and longing sounded like the perfect words to frame those silent dialogues. I hit up the VIP opening of the @laartshow last night thanks to the generosity of my friend @heidijo_la aka @hijinxarts! My art collecting goal for this year is to get the rest of the #HalopiggCollection from my mom’s to the west coast, but trying not to add new art is tough. Artist: Camilla d'Errico Title: Fukurou (Print) Size 20"x30" signed Camilla d’Errico’s career as a painter began in 2006, when she participated in shows at Vancouver’s Ayden Gallery in Gastown. Since early 2007, d’Errico began showing her work in galleries across the US and Canada, in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Vancouver in what is known as the Lowbrow (art movement). She is among the group of female artists including Audrey Kawasaki, and Amy Sol who paint beautiful young girls in the Pop Surrealism category.With her work on Helmetgirls, d'Errico expanded upon the concept of headgear to include animals of all kinds, intertwining and juxtaposing her stylized, fantasy girls with lifelike animals. Her girls are unusually stunning, doe-eyed and magnificently colourful female characters.

"This Night Has Opened My Eyes" is a duo of postcard sized mixed media paintings on panel that I created for the "Wish You Were Here" show, opening May 7th at @sallycentigrade in Denver, CO. Walking on streets, at stores, and other places where we would see other humans, in the absence of smiles or other facial expressions, the eyes became the most prominent sign of humanity. Sometimes we would try to touch each other with a brief gaze - or avoid it, maybe afraid we would be saying too much. In isolation, deprived of touch, making eye contact gained a different meaning. It became communication and communion.
