This is ridiculous, angel. Nonsense. Red is your colour, after all.
In my country, we have a tradition when some people visit houses to give gifts to children on St. Nicholas day. One of them is dressed up like Saint Nicholas, one as an angel and one as "chort" (aka a devil). Sometimes there are more angels and chorts. As a child, I was always so afraid of the chort that I cried. A lot. He was fcking frightful, all smeared with coal, with horns, black curly hairs, and chains. I was 5.
I like the idea, that Crowley would hand gifts to kids because Crowley loves kids (and he would probably do anything for his angel). And an angel can't be anything else but an angel. Definitely not a devil, don’t be ridiculous Crowley! Also, I believe Adam and the Them would be great chorts.

Letter to Santa!
Dear Santa!
I have a feeling we might have misunderstood each other a bit this year...
When I wrote to you that I dream of a present, I was thinking of just one because one would be more than enough....
When I wrote that if you could 'just drop it straight on me' while flying by my neighborhood on your sleigh, I was speaking metaphorically....
Nevertheless, I truly appreciate your gesture!
I also noticed that all the cookies I baked for you have disappeared which makes me very glad. I hope you shared them with your reindeers.
Lying here, I also thought to myself that maybe next year we could switch roles? I'll take over your duties for this one day only, fly around on the sleigh, and spread some gifts? Let me know what you think about this idea.
Yours sincerely, Petit
P.S.
If anyone else is reading this letter and is curious about how I'm doing: I'm stuck and lying between boxes, figuring out a plan to get out of here. But it's quite comfortable, so maybe I'll lay here a bit longer and rest...

Krampus: A (very) Summarized History.
In honor of the season, I thought I would make a quick post on "The Krampus" as he is also a figure in Hungary.
In part, this post is also to address the comparisons I am starting to to see between The Krampus tradition and more "modern" Christmas traditions; usually treating Krampus as a coveted ancient custom worthy of emulation as well as a "true" example of the spirit the ancients kept around this time of year.
But Krampus is not an ancient custom.
He is not a Germanic or Celtic custom. He is not a representation of "the horned god" sent underground and warped into a demon by the church in an effort to stamp out pagan beliefs.
Krampus is very much a "modern" custom.
Though there are records of masked parades in Bavaria dating as far back as 1582, this rite was known as "Hunting the Percht" ("Percht" is often associated with Perchta), Krampus is not mentioned. These customs were banned, but not because they were pagan, rather because they promoted violence, drinking and the masked intermingling of boys and girls. Many of these bans would continue until 1800.
Later in the nineteenth century, moving Jesuit theatres in Bavaria and Tyrol would result in large carnival like parades that would also be called "Perchten Runs". It is here that the origins of Krampus are theorized to have originated as there was often a depiction of an angel, the devil and Saint Nicholas that moved from house to house. The depiction of the devil that is described seems to be a direct predecessor.
The word "Krampus" would rise in popularity in the late nineteenth century, with a media phenomenon that started in Vienna and made its way through Germany and the Austro-Hungarian empire by way of postcard.
Krampus' beginnings would be forgotten over time in large part due to an origin story actively disseminated by folkorists of the early twentieth century. Unfortunately their motives were political, and it must be stated that the misinformation and smokescreen that many believe to be the lore of Krampus is, in fact, propaganda inspired by proto-fascist ideology and German nationalism. Some academics of the time, believing Krampus to be a Germanic custom molded by the church, would then set to the task of trying to scrub Krampus of his Christian roots. It should also be stated that during his complicated history Krampus has been used as a tool to ostracize immigrants in Austria and to promote "traditional" values.
However, as a syncretic practicioner, I don't think that Krampus' (more likely) Christian origins should make him suddenly appear "less" within the pagan/magic community. Nor do I think that he should just be left to to nazis due to his past (and current) politicization. I personally think that Krampus is a great example of how we can create our own traditions. That things can hold a special place within our hearts and invoke the mythical, and the mystical despite being of modern origin. That a modern depiction can become a recognizable representation of a sacred sense and feeling.
We are equally the stewards and creators of traditions.
*For further more detailed reading on this subject, and where I sourcrd a lot of my info, I suggest The Krampus in Austria A Case of Booming Identity Politics by Matthäus Rest and Gertraud Seiser
