See Clearly Now
(Read on AO3)  (Flufftober Day 20: Future)
Everyone has dreams of their soulmates growing up. They start off hazy and grow clearer the older someone gets, until sometime around the age of 16-18 they grow clear enough to lead you to that person, whether the dreams are of a location or an event or the person themselves. Visions of the future are not entirely uncommon, for those lucky enough for something so concrete to look for. And then, when you finally meet them, the first time you touch you get an immediate vision of yourself with them in perfect clarity for the first time.
Though Simon Lewis always finds himself dreaming of a future where he finally meets his soulmate and finds a place he feels like he truly fits once and for all, it’s always just that: a dream. Because he can feel that something isn’t right once he hears from friends what they’re experiencing and realizes that his dreams are nothing like everyone else’s.
Simon always got two very different feelings from his dreams. Some are of snakes and weapons, of tattoos and symbols he doesn’t recognize. Others draw him towards the sea where  he hears howling and sees jagged lines. They’re always short and clipped, one cutting the other off as if fighting for time in his unconscious.
He can sense a clear distinction between the two, pulling him in two very different directions, which is worrying  in its own right. When he turns 18 and nothing becomes any clearer he only grows more concerned.
Everyone else his age is being led off in one direction of another, following their dreams and instincts to start their futures with their soulmates. Everyone except him.
Clary, his best friend, just met her own soulmate yesterday. She’s immediately infatuated and wants Simon to meet him, which is… fine. He’s happy for her, but it’s just another reminder of how defective he is because that should’ve been him months ago.
Except when he meets Jace and sees the tattoos poking out from the collar of his shirt Simon stops dead. “That. That tattoo on your neck-” Simon stutters out, gaping. “What is it?”
“Nothing,” Jace deflects, but Simon shakes his head.
“No, I’ve seen symbols like that. I had dreams of them. It’s all so hazy but I’m positive that’s one of them,” Simon insists.
Jace hesitates. “Your soulmate dreams?” he asks, eyeing Simon carefully.
Simon nods.
“...do you play the guitar?” Jace asks catching Simon entirely off guard.
“...maybe. Why?” Simon replies, suddenly a little more hesitant about the sudden interrogation and Jace’s knowledge of all his hobbies. “How much did you talk about me yesterday, Fray?”
“Not that much,” Clary admits, also looking more than a little confused by the turn of events this introduction is taking.
“Wait here.” Jace says, and leaves without another word.
“What the hell was that?” Clary asks.
“You tell me!” Simon counters. “He’s your soulmate.”
They wait for Jace to come back, and when he does he isn’t alone.
“Simon, this is Isabelle. Isabelle, Simon.”
Isabelle has the same black tattoos that Jace has, and Simon tries not to stare too hard because she’s gorgeous and that would be rude, except Isabelle is staring at him very intently. Simon drops his gaze quickly and that’s when he sees it - the snake bracelet wrapped around her arm.
“Oh my god,” Simon breathes out, immediately reaching out to take Isabelle’s hand. They both give a bit of a jolt and Simon can see… well, he sees himself, and Isabelle, but there’s something else hazy in the space between them. Something missing. He has no doubt that this is right, that he’s meant to be with Isabelle, but…
“So?” Jace prods, bringing them both out of their vision of the future.
“You saw it too, didn’t you?” Simon asks Isabelle, ignoring Jace. “The fuzzy space in between us?”
“No,” Isabelle says, smiling so wide it looks like it should hurt. “Because I already met her. You were our missing space.”
“What are you talking about?” Simon asks, but the moment the question leaves his mouth Isabelle’s words click in his head. “Oh.”
“Si? What’s going on?” Clary asks.
“Simon doesn’t just have one roommate, Clary. He has two,” Jace explains.
“I have to call Maia!” Isabelle grabs her phone and calls, then texts when Maia doesn’t answer right away.
“She’s at work and can’t come here, but she said we can go there if you want.” Izzy speaks to the group but it’s obvious in the way she lets the offer hang at the end, looking at Simon, that she’s leaving it up to him whether he wants to go or not.
“Oh, uh… yeah. Let’s go,” he agrees. Izzy takes his hand without hesitation and it’s a reassuring touch. Izzy seems lightyears out of his league but here she is, eagerly dragging him off to meet her… girlfriend? He has to assume Isabelle and Maia are dating properly since they met months ago. Is Isabelle his girlfriend now, too?
He supposes those sorts of clarifications can come later. More than enough is happening right now without all that.
“Are you okay? You look a little pale,” Clary asks him, worried.
“Yeah, I’m fine, it’s just… I was starting to think I wasn’t fit to be one person’s soulmate, and now all of a sudden I have two?” Simon sounds nervous as they head over to the Hunter’s Moon.
“Simon, relax. You’ve got this. You’re amazing, and both of them are lucky to have you. It’s going to be fine - it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t meant to be, right?” Clary reasons, and Simon’s glad his best friend is here for this to talk him down from a panic.
“Yeah. Right. It’s fine. I got this. Who am I to argue fate, right? I just have to be the perfect person for two people instead of just one. No biggie.” He’s rambling now and he knows it, but Clary humors him with a smile and Jace is nice enough to not point out how absolutely insane he probably sounds talking mostly to himself just then.
The moment they step inside the Hunter’s Moon it’s easy to spot Maia - Izzy’s gaze locks on her immediately and she’s tugging Simon behind her as she starts to walk towards the beautiful bartender who stares at him with wide eyes as she slowly lowers the glass she’s washing onto the countertop.
“Maia,” Isabelle says, wasting no time. “This is Simon.”
Simon gives a little wave. Unlike Isabelle Maia seems a little more unsure about all of this, which actually makes him feel better about his own uncertainty. He doesn’t reach out to touch her just yet.
“Everything is clear now,” Izzy continues, looking between them expectantly.
“All this time, I thought… I don’t know. That I did something wrong, or maybe Izzy and I weren’t actually soulmates,” Maia admits, looking at Simon. “But that wasn’t it, was it?” she says, her tone much more hopeful as it turns back to Isabelle.
“No. We were just missing something. Or, rather, someone.” Isabelle’s gaze dances over Simon, grinning from ear to ear. “This isn’t totally unheard of. I know a Seelie who had four soulmates, so-”
“A what?” Simon asks, and Maia’s face drops at the question.
“He doesn’t know. Of course he doesn’t know. Fuck,” Maia says, and Isabelle’s at her side in an instant with a comforting arm wrapped around her.
“...what don’t I know?” Simon asks.
“Hey. We can deal with that later. It’s going to be fine. But first things first…” Izzy trails off, nudging Maia forward.
Simon offers her an encouraging smile as he holds out his hand. “Hey, this is weird for me, too. But we’ll figure it out together. I promise.”
“I’m holding you to that, Simon,” Maia says, before reaching out to take Simon’s hand.
The gaps clear and the fuzziness Simon’s felt his entire life fades entirely, leaving nothing but a clear image in his mind of him, Isabelle, and now Maia, too. Simon always feared he’d never find his moment of clarity, and now that he has it the sensation is overwhelming.
He and Maia drop their hands and both immediately look over to Isabelle who wastes no time moving forward to pull them both into her arms. It catches Simon by surprise at first but he soon melts into the touch that, while new and a little foreign, somehow feels perfectly natural.
It feels good. It feels right.
Simon knows, for the first time without a single doubt, that he’s exactly where he needs to be.

The February Debacle
Part of my Malec/Saiabelle Power Rangers AU
Read On AO3
Magnus isn’t quite sure how this escalated so quickly. If he had to lay blame on how they ended up like this, he’d have to say it’s completely Isabelle’s fault. She’s the one who had banished he and Alec upstairs for being too ‘disgustingly cute in the open air of the living room.’
And okay, maybe they’ve been laying it on a little thick lately with Valentines Day nearly a week away. But it’s their first Valentines as a couple and Alec’s first Valentines with a boyfriend ever, sue them for being a little extra sappy.
So really, it’s all on her that they’re upstairs now, no longer studying anatomy.
Well, technically we’re still studying anatomy, Magnus muses as Alec’s lips trail down his neck.
One minute he’d been sitting on Alec’s bed reading quietly, Alec at his desk not far away doing the same when a well-timed joke about how anatomy should be more hands off slipped through Alec’s lips and the air went from companionable to charged.
Magnus isn’t really if it’s been minutes or hours later, but Alec’s settled comfortably between his legs and Magnus’ shirt has been lost somewhere along the way. Alec’s lips shift down to his collarbone, placing open mouthed kisses as Magnus trails his hands up under his boyfriend’s shirt, fully intending for it to join his on the floor somewhere.
His hands find warm skin, moving along slowly, inching the shirt up higher and higher. Magnus is just about to push Alec back lightly to remove the annoying fabric between them when the sound of the door creaking open breaks through the sound of their heavy breathing filling the air.
“Oh, shit,” Alec says pulling back and attempting to pull his shirt back down quickly. It’s no good though, because Magnus’ is long gone and Alec’s not even a half motion out of the comfortable space between his knees before Maryse’s voice booms loud in their direction.
“ALEXANDER LIGHTWOOD,” she yells sternly, then drops to an icy controlled tone that’s ten times more terrifying. “Can I have a word?”
Alec’s eyes widen staring directly into Magnus’ as he clears his throat clambering off the bed a little indelicately to rush to the doorway.
“In the hallway,” she continues in a clipped tone, gesturing for Alec to walk past her with an intent stare. “Hello, Magnus,” she says a little softer, but definitely still angry, glancing at him as he sits up on the bed fighting the urge to simply run and jump out the window.
“Mrs. Lightwood,” he replies with his best ‘I love your son, please don’t kill me’ winning smile. He actually faced down the prospect of the apocalypse not even a year ago and this moment is somehow more terrifying. She nods, pulling the door shut as she moves in the direction Alec has just gone.
Magnus falls back on the bed with a groan, hands over his face as the door clicks shut. He can hear Maryse’s voice muffled through the door, a word here and there coming through clearer. Magnus groans again when he hears the phrase ‘open door policy.’ It’s not unexpected after what just happened, but it is disappointing.
The door re-opens mere moments later. He starts to scramble into an upright position, aware he should be searching for his shirt before Maryse makes her return when said shirt flies across the room and hit’s him smack in the face.
“Looking for that,” Isabelle chuckles as Magnus pulls the garment down from his face and back onto his shoulders. She leaves the door cracked open slightly, Maryse and Alec’s hushed tones coming through more clearly now.
“Thank you,” Magnus grumbles as he quickly buttons the shirt up, Isabelle dropping down onto the bed next to him cross-legged an understanding, but humored smile on her lips.
“I have a right mind to call the sheriff down here and reinstall that house arrest device to you leg,” Maryse whisper yells from the hall.
That wouldn’t do much good, Magnus muses to himself as Isabelle giggles clearly thinking the same thing.
“Mom,” Alec huffs but gets out no more before Maryse soldiers on.
“You know I love Magnus,” she says which despite the situation makes Magnus smile. “And though you’ve made great strides proving you’ve learned your lesson from the first ankle bracelet, you are still living in my house and as long as you are there are rules, rules which evidently now must include that your bedroom door is to remain open at all times when Magnus is here, do you understand?”
“Yes, mom,” Alec replies and Magnus can just imagine the eyeroll that goes along with those words.
“Don’t roll your eyes at me,” Maryse snaps confirming Magnus’ imagination. A low barely audible apology comes from Alec then.
“Now, we need to talk about if you and Magnus are being safe,” Maryse starts. Magnus’ eyes widen as he turns to look at Isabelle who’s barely containing a burst of loud laughter behind her hand. Magnus lightly hits her on the arm as he gives her a look to express that this is decidedly not funny.
“Oh, my god mom,” Alec says and Magnus truly wishes he could give Alec a way to jump out of a window now.
“Now, I know it’s not the most comfortable thing to talk about with your mother, and I obviously can’t know what it’s like for the two of you, but I am your mother so I worry and I need to know that you’re being smart,” She takes a deep audible breath and it’s clear is about to go on when Alec interrupts.
“We haven’t even, it’s not,” Alec starts clearly flustered, it’s true they haven’t actually taken that full final step yet, but Magnus can imagine how difficult that is for Alec to say to his mother.
“We’re good, mom, I swear, we’re smart,” he rushes out sincerely after a deep collecting breath as Isabelle’s shoulders start to shake with restrained giggles next to Magnus. It’s deafeningly quiet for a moment and though most of Magnus’ time with Maryse has been in polite, delightful company he can imagine the concerned but deeply questioning and scrutinizing look Alec is on the receiving end of right now. Magnus wants to support him in all things, but that look is one he’s glad he’s missing.
“Okay,” she says after a few beats. “Will Magnus be staying for dinner?”
Her tone shifts to the delightful welcoming voice Magnus usually hears from her, as if she hadn’t just mortified her son with the entire previous conversation.
“Yeah, I think so,” Alec says sounding nervous about her tonal shift. Staying for dinner had been the plan with his mother out for the night with friends, but now Magnus is wondering if he should just go home and eat that box of pop tarts in the cabinet and call it a day to avoid what will now no doubt be an awkward meal.
“Great,” she says a little too cheerfully her heels clicking against the hardwood as she seemingly moves to head downstairs. “You can head back in now.”
Magnus hears the large gush of air that Alec let’s out as his steps begin to move back to the door. Isabelle moves her hand ready to let her laughter fall as Alec appears in the doorway pushing it open slowly, when Maryse’s voice breaks through again causing Alec to freeze in place.
“Door open,” she says pointedly her footsteps pausing briefly. “Don’t make me call Luke.”
Alec stays frozen in the doorway until the sound of her heels is no longer audible before sulking into the room landing face first onto his bed on Magnus’ other side. Isabelle takes this as her invitation to begin openly cackling at the situation.
“I cannot believe that just happened,” Alec says words muffled into the mattress. Magnus turns to his boyfriend laying a sympathetic hand on Alec’s back and rubbing between his shoulders lightly.
“It could have been worse,” Magnus shrugs trying to make Alec feel a little lighter about it. “Only one and a half of us were shirtless.”
Alec groans again lifting his body up to curl around Magnus dropping his forehead on his shoulder to hide his burning cheeks. Magnus lifts a hand up to run his fingers lightly through Alec’s hair in understanding, Isabelle on the other hand just laughs louder falling back onto the bed straight up cackling now.
“You could have given us some warning she was home, you know?” Magnus says shoving at her affectionately with his free hand.
“I’m sorry,” she gulps between laughs, not sounding very sorry. “I didn’t even hear her come home, plus it’s really not that bad, she grounded me for a month when she caught me and Meliorn making out on the couch last year, be happy she’s mellowed out.”
“Good point,” Magnus reluctantly agrees, Maryse’s divorce and acceptance of her children’s wants has done a lot of good in the recent months. “I honestly thought she was going to kick me out.”
“That would never happen,” Alec says lifting his head looking far less embarrassed than he had a few minutes ago. “Mom loves you.”
“That’s true,” Isabelle agrees her laughter finally slowing down. “She’d basically trade at least one of us in for you to stick around.”
“Well it’s a good thing I plan on sticking around,” he says with a soft smile directed at Alec. “With the door open of course.” He adds seriously in afterthought.
Alec nods gravely in agreement smiling as he reaches out to hold Magnus’ hands in his. Yeah, Magnus is definitely planning on sticking around.
“Ugh,” Isabelle says with a betraying smile. “This was funny, but now you’re back to being all disgustingly sweet, so I’m out.”
She rises from the bed moving out the door, looking back only to pointedly open Alec’s door even wider with one last laugh as Alec and Magnus roll their eyes in unison.
“I hope your mom loves me too, cause we’re definitely going to need to spend more time there for the foreseeable future until the mortification wears off,” Alec says turning his attention back to Magnus.
“She does,” Magnus says with a smile, knowing good and well his mom will be delighted to have Alec around more often. “But first we have to get through dinner tonight.”
And get through it they do, just barely. With way too many awkward pauses that Jace and Max, who’d missed the whole debacle, witness with bafflement and Izzy poorly hides her laughter at. And when Sheriff Garroway shows up unexpectedly to join them for dessert, they can’t even joke about the fond way he and Maryse look at one another, her threat still clear in their minds.

Prompt if i may: some saiabelle cuteness (date nights or simon having a gig and mizzy cheering him on or anything really!!) 🖤❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💗
I am always up for writing ot3s!!
Izzy had never really been interested in monogamy. Before she met Simon and Maia, her longest standing relationship had been with Meliorn, and that had been almost solely sexual. The thought of settling with a Clave robot and churning out 2 or 3 kids had always been repulsive to her. For a long time, she’d let people tell her that she was just insatiable, or flighty. But now that she had Simon and Maia, she knew that that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
She was more or less obsessed with the both of them, bringing them little gifts almost every time she went to visit them in their little apartment in Queens. Looking at them, cuddling with them, just being in their vicinity filled Izzy with a completeness that she never pictured herself feeling. It turned out that she could do romance. She loved romance. All she’d needed was the pressure off. The emotional labour of the relationship was shared; if one of them was having a hard time, the other two could help each other help the one having a hard time. It was perfect. Izzy felt safe knowing that Simon and Maia were there to support each other as well as support her.
“Hey, you made it!” Maia enthused as she opened the door, her hand curling around Izzy’s waist as she leaned in to kiss her. “You look beautiful.”
Izzy preened a little as Simon appeared behind her for a kiss as well, his hand on Maia’s lower back. “You do. Is that Clary’s dress?”
“I don’t have mundane-friendly clothes,” Izzy shrugged, kissing each of them on the cheek before walking past them into the apartment. After sheepishly admitting that Izzy hadn’t really watched movies growing up, they were working their way through all the Disney movies.
“The fact that you recognise every piece of clothing Clary owns is so cute,” Maia grinned, pinching Simon’s cheek as he opened a bottle of wine for them.
“I was there when she bought most of it,” Simon admitted, which made Maia and Izzy laugh. “She’s really good at picking out clothes for me, so we always went together.”
Maia smiled, taking her glass of wine and leaning into Izzy’s side. “So that explains why you end up matching on accident sometimes.”
“They do both own a lot of plaid.” Izzy agreed, putting one arm around Maia’s shoulders. “What’s on the menu for tonight? I’m starving. Didn’t have time to eat lunch.”
“I’d have brought you lunch if you’d said,” Maia scolded, eyebrows furrowing. “You need to make time to eat.”
“Yeah, especially since you get so hangry when you don’t eat.” Simon grimaced, sitting down next to Izzy to join the snuggles.
Izzy scoffed. “I do not. I’m perfectly calm right now, aren’t I?”
“Our impact,” Simon insisted, his finger pointing between himself and Maia.
“I might have been a little bit short with Alec on the way out,” Izzy muttered, sipping her wine. “But food! Foooood!”
Maia and Simon laughed, Simon running his fingers through Izzy’s hair. “I’m already sorted, got a pint of B neg.”
“I fancy Thai.” Maia wrinkled her nose. “Honestly I kinda want the Jade Wolf’s spring rolls, but I know if we order from there that the whole pack will crash date night, so…”
“Thai it is!” Simon clapped.
“I could eat Thai food,” Izzy agreed, “and maybe dessert from Carluccio’s?”
Maia nodded, scrolling through her phone putting her order in. “Hell yeah. I like the way you think.”
Once the food was ordered, and Izzy had snatched a packet of chips from the kitchen to keep her going, the three of them settled down under a blanket to watch Lady and the Tramp. They’d been together long enough now that they’d figured out how to squeeze together on the small couch in a way that was comfortable for all of them, and it meant that Maia’s legs were over Simon’s lap and her feet were in Izzy’s, and Izzy leaned against Simon, and Simon could scritch Maia’s scalp and swirl patterns on Izzy’s palm at the same time. Izzy and Maia passed the bag of chips between them every now and then, and Simon couldn’t help the fond little swell in his heart when he glanced over to see Izzy enraptured in the movie. When he glanced over at Maia, he caught her looking at him, and she grinned.
When the doorbell rang, Maia got up to pay and portion off her and Izzy’s food, and when she turned back Izzy was looking up at her with naked affection and gratitude, and Maia felt goosebumps erupt on the back of her neck. It was all so new for Izzy, this whole thing of relationships being give and take. Of being spoiled and looked after sometimes, and other times being the one do the spoiling. It was so cute.
“You want me to put your blood in the microwave, babe?” Maia asked Simon once she’d given Izzy her food, the two of them smirking as Izzy shovelled noodles into her mouth.
“Nah, no biggie.”
She handed him the pouch and a straw as she took her seat next to him, the three of them more or less on top of each other, jammed onto the small couch.
“I swear next thing I’m saving up for is a new couch,” Maia muttered, digging into her food. This was cute now in the height of winter, but come summer, the three of them would be absolutely sweltering sitting squished together like this.
Izzy hummed in agreement, hitching one of her knees over Simon’s. Maia smiled at the two of them raptly watching the TV, knowing without a doubt that when summer came Izzy would still be around. She’d slipped into her relationship with Simon like she’d always been meant to be there. Who’d have thought, she mused, a vampire, a werewolf, and a shadowhunter?
“Oh, no, I’m going to cry, this is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen,” Izzy whimpered, pausing with her fork halfway to her mouth as Lady and the Tramp shared some spaghetti.
Simon looked at Izzy, and then over at Maia, who grinned from ear to ear. “Has anyone ever told you that you’re adorable?” He asked, turning his attention back to Izzy. Her eyes snapped from the TV to both Simon and Maia, and she shrugged one shoulder sheepishly.
“He nosed a meatball towards her!”
“How about this, instead?” Maia asked, sticking a noodle in her mouth and leaning towards Izzy, who eagerly grabbed the other end and started chewing her way down it until they met in the middle, giggling. Simon pointed to Maia’s food when a questioning look on his face, and Maia nodded. “You won’t like it, babe.”
“But I like kissing you.” Simon reminded her, his nose wrinkling a little as he put one end of the noodle in his mouth and leaned towards Maia, batting his eyelashes.
“This is the best movie yet,” Izzy declared, putting down her bowl of food to clamber across Simon and Maia’s laps, pulling the blanket over them. “Led to kissing.”
“If I remember rightly, Fantasia led to a lot more than kissing,” Maia hummed, and Izzy snorted.
“You know what I mean. Romantic kissing. Smooching.”
“Smooching,” Simon chuckled, his hand petting Izzy’s leg. “Can I have another smooch?”
Izzy took his chin between her fingers and kissed him noisily, before settling back with her head on Maia’s shoulder.
All three of them sighed happily at the same time, and Maia burst into giggles.

Hello hello, this is your Malec Secret Santa! And I'm wondering if you have any Christmas wishes this year?
Hi Santa! For the most part, I'm just excited to see what you come up with, but I had a bit more of a think since I signed up and have come up with some more likes and dislikes.
In terms of little things, I like it when how competent, powerful, and downright scary Alec and/or Magnus are is addressed! I like action and comedy - crack fics are fun. I like fics where Alec Doesn't Give A Fuck™, most particularly when it comes to showing his love for Magnus publicly. 5+1 structures are my jam, but also not the be all and end all.
In terms of dislikes, I'm not fond of ABO unless it's subverting the typical tropes of the genre. Mpreg is a definite no-no. I mentioned disliking mentions of book canon: this includes book descriptions, as well as their kids being Max and Rafe (I'm all for them having kids, though!).
If you're feeling in a smutty mood, I particularly like bottom Alec, but also I'm not the type to start causing trouble over something so trivial 😂 I like comeplay, and blowjobs, mild exhibitionism, and light D/s, but only very light - performing scenes is a very fine line for me! Praise kink is good.
I'm also light and breezy when it comes to background ships, if that applies! Clace, Sizzy, Saia, Saiabelle, Claiabelle, Clizzy, Claia, Jimon, Jace/Maia, Jace/Lydia, Izzy/Lydia are ships I enjoy seeing.
That's all I can think of right now, so I hope it helps! I'm going to tag it and anything else I think of with malecsecretsanta19 ✨

2. Raphael/Meliorn
3. Dotarina
4. Saiabelle
5. Saphael (i admit, hardly one of my otps, but i was running out of non canon ships, other than a few i only half ship, even less so than this. although i’m sure i’m forgetting something.)

Accidental Superheroes...Again
Part of my Malec/Saiabelle Power Rangers AU
Read on AO3
“So, in conclusion math was created by the devil and a few years from now when it’s time for me to graduate, I won’t because I never passed a math class,” Magnus grumbles miserably one hand tangled with Alec’s the other gesturing animatedly.
Alec chuckles pulling Magnus in close as they continue to walk across NYU’s campus towards home.
“That’s not gonna happen babe,” Alec says turning to press a quick kiss to his boyfriend’s temple. Magnus had received an email with the grade of his latest exam while waiting for Alec to finish his night class and the result hadn’t been excellent.
“Oh, but it is,” Magnus says. “The Dean of Columbia University themselves will look me in the eyes, deny me my diploma and say ‘ya math dumb’.”
Alec rolls his eyes at his boyfriend’s dramatics. “You’re not dumb,” Alec says with conviction. “Plus, I doubt the Dean of one of the most known universities in America would use the phrase ‘ya math dumb’.”
“Fine, they’ll say it more diplomatically then,” Magnus sighs. Alec stops using the hand clasped with Magnus’ to turn him so they face one another.
“Magnus, you are brilliant math just isn’t your thing but you’ll figure it out and kick it’s ass,” he says with a smile looking into Magnus’ deep brown eyes with surety.
The frown on Magnus’ face fades a bit as he rolls his eyes, “I guess you’re right,” he relents.
“I usually am, it’s-” he starts but is cut off by the sound of a shout coming from nearby. Magnus’ head perks up looking in the direction of the shout as it sounds again. Without thought they both take off, Alec tossing his backpack off to the side, hopefully safely for the time being, under a nearby tree. They both rush, growing closer to the shouts when from a distance they spot a young man fighting off two muggers alone.
For the first time in months Alec feels the thrumming energy of his powers coming to life. Since they moved to New York they haven’t once had cause to break out their armor or even really use their powers except for the extra strength it took to carry a mattress up four flights when they moved into their apartment. He hadn’t realized he missed the feeling of it till this moment and judging from the smirk on Magnus’ face he feels the same.
With a nod of his head he calls on the armor, the cool metal now just a thought away covering him quickly as Magnus does the same. Magnus reaches the muggers first grabbing the taller one by the collar and pulling him back from the scared student.
Alec grabs the other mugger by his wrist his fingers clinging roughly into the student’s shirt. The mugger twists only startling at Alec’s alien looking appearance for a moment before rushing forward with a knife in hand. Alec easily deflects the blade knocking the mugger to the ground as he sees Magnus dodging a punch from the other culprit easily catching his fist in hand.
“Really?” Alec says as the mugger scrambles around for the knife tossing it poorly at Alec, the dinging sound it makes bouncing off his armor almost humorous amongst the shuffle. Alec picks the knife up snapping it in two, which causes the muggers eyes to widen in fear, and tossing it off to the side out of the muggers reach as Magnus grapples with the other mugger pulling him into a sleeper hold that knocks him out cold fairly quickly. He drops the unconscious criminal to the ground next to the other one who’s still staring up at Alec with wide fearful eyes.
“Don’t move,” Magnus says with a chuckle throwing a quick look to Alec as he steps toward the scared victim who’s now hiding behind a nearby bush. “You okay?”
The boy nods and stammers something that sounds like an affirmation as Alec’s attention is drawn to the sound of heavy fast-moving footsteps nearing them. Not far in the distance campus police are closing in, the blue and red lights of an NYPD vehicle closing in as well. Magnus helps the boy to stand as Alec leans to grab the discarded broken knife throwing the sharp edges expertly into the side of a tree.
“Here we go again,” Magnus sighs gesturing to a small cluster of students who’ve gathered with phones in hand. Alec huffs taking his eyes off the still frozen in fear mugger for a moment. The myth of the suited superheroes of Alicante Grove had died down immensely remaining mostly a local legend, that however seemed like it was about to change.
“We should go,” Alec says ignoring the clicking of cameras taking one last glance at the criminals before them as campus police reach them skidding to stop a little wide eyed. “Have a nice night,” he salutes before grabbing Magnus’ hand to run back to his backpack and to their evening as planned, superhero drama free.
***
“We’re famous again,” Magnus says as he rolls from bed the next morning his phone in hand.
“And a good morning to you as well,” Alec says sitting a plate piled high with waffles on the small coffee table in front of the couch. It’s barely a second before Magnus reaches him, their studio apartment is essentially only two rooms: a bathroom and a living room/bedroom/kitchen space or the ‘living-bedchen’ as they loving call it, tossing his phone at Alec before planting a quick kiss on his lips.
“Good morning darling,” he says immediately reaching out for the waffles gesturing for Alec to look at the phone.
Alec unlocks the screen sitting down next to Magnus revealing a series of texts from Maia, most are in all capital letters with too many exclamation points but the most recent is a link to a viral twitter thread. It seems that somewhere between their dinner last night and the quiet breakfast Alec is not getting to enjoy the students who’d posted photos and short videos of last nights incident on their feeds have already connected the two of them to Alicante Grove incident.
“Well, shit,” Alec says scrolling through the comments, some of which are attempting to connect who or what the mystery metal heroes might be.
“It’s not that bad,” Magnus says through a mouthful of waffle, Alec takes a moment despite his sudden worry to appreciate how cute it is.
“What if they figure out it’s us?” Alec says gesturing wildly as Magnus plucks the phone from his hand tossing it onto the empty side of the couch. “And if they figure out it’s us, they might connect it back to Iz and Maia and Simon.”
“Alexander,” Magnus says calmly placing a hand on Alec’s cheek. The touch is simple but it grounds him in a way nothing else can. “There’s no way anyone will figure out it’s us, people still think that the Rangers are aliens not actual people, we put a hole in the center of our hometown and people stopped talking about it after a few months, by the end of the week something else insane will happen on campus and this will all be forgotten. This is one of those rare times we can be thankful for the 24-hour news cycle world in which we live today, okay?”
Alec rationalizes that Magnus is right. If Alicante Grove, a town with not much to talk about had accepted them as a legend and mostly moved on, it’s no doubt that a large campus in a huge city will forget about them within the week or even sooner depending on how things go.
“Okay,” he nods which makes Magnus smile bright. He turns back to his waffles putting two small pieces on the end of his fork and offering it to Alec.
Alec smiles, his frenzied mind calming as he leans in to eat the waffles chewing slowly as the sun streams in through the windows brightly. Magnus smiles right back bopping Alec on the nose with the now empty fork playfully.
Somewhere in the depths of his mind he’s still worrying that one day someone might put two and two together, not that there’s any real physical proof to connect it all up, but there’s no sense in fretting over things that likely won’t ever happen, especially not when a quiet sweet breakfast with the love of his life is right in front of him.

Happy
Part of my Malec/Saiabelle Power Rangers AU
Read on AO3
“So, I’m dating Simon and Izzy,” Maia says rather abruptly as they sit their coffees down. Magnus isn’t all that surprised by the revelation though her abrupt blurting out of the statement stuns him a bit.
“Oh?” he says pulling out his chair to take a seat as Maia does the same.
Maia raises an eyebrow, “Don’t play dumb I know you knew already I just thought I’d confirm it.”
Magnus smiles. After the summers events Maia’s blossoming friendship with Izzy had grown even closer and Simon had also become a part of the equation as well. While he and Alec had been falling in love one training session in the pit at a time, the trio had been getting to know each other; a friendship that had been clearly forming into something more. He and Alec hadn’t pushed, though Simon’s admission of having a confusing crush on both girls to them had been a time they pushed just a bit so Simon could see the direction things could head.
“Maybe,” he says still smiling genuinely happy for his friends. “But it makes me no less happy to know that you’re all happy. You are happy right?”
Maia pauses for a second a small, almost shy smile growing on her face before she answers, “Yeah, I mean it’s been a little complicated working it out.”  She pauses clearly mulling over the last few months in her mind. “I mean we tried dating each other as pairs, but the dates always felt stilted, now that we’ve talked though the three of us just make sense together, even if we might not make sense to other people.” She fidgets with her coffee lid a little clearly nervous.
Magnus understands, he can see how their three personalities might clash, can see how people in school question why two girls like Maia and Izzy spend all their time with a nerdy, overactive guy like Simon, but he knows them all well enough to know they can make this work. He also knows what it’s like to fall for someone who externally seems like your opposite, Magnus with his bold personality and style and Alec’s quiet and active ways have no doubt gotten questioning looks before as to how they’re a couple.
“It makes sense,” Magnus says. “All three of you aren’t exactly what people expect you to be, you balance each other out in ways people who don’t have the pleasure of knowing all three of you could never understand.”
“Exactly,” she says and stops fidgeting, her smile growing more confident and happy. “Also don’t worry about having to keep this a secret from lover boy, Izzy and Simon are telling him as we speak.”
Magnus is grateful for that, he’s never been very good at keeping things from Alec and he says just that to Maia.
“No shit,” she laughs.
“I’m surprised you didn’t tell us as a group on Friday, Alpha will be over the moon,” Magnus says.
“Oh god, Alpha,” Maia groans. “I didn’t even think about that, he’s gonna lose his damn little robot mind. He’s so invested, he texts me about us all the time, almost as much as he texts me about how you and Alec are so cute.”
Magnus sips his coffee chuckling lightly, he’s been on the receiving end of Alpha’s enthusiasm about their ‘human relationships’ enough times to know exactly what she’s talking about.
“So, we know, Alpha will know soon, does that mean Thanksgiving is about to get very interesting?” Magnus asks. The holiday is nearing and Maryse had graciously invited Magnus, his mother to join. Much to everyone’s surprise Sheriff Garroway had also received an invite that extended to Maia and Clary as well.
“Absolutely not,” Maia says firmly. “Simon won’t be there and with whatever weird flirting tango Luke and Maryse are doing we do not need to add to the evening. Maybe we’ll tell them before Christmas, or New Years, definitely before Valentines, but you and Magnus can stay the only romance receiving weirdly invasive parental questions for now.”
Magnus grumbles, their parent’s acceptance and welcoming of their relationship has been great, but sometimes he feels like his and Alec’s mother are a little too invested. His mother can play coy all she wants, he knows all about the ongoing text chain she has with Maryse.
Maia laughs and shrugs, “Sorry.” The tone implies she is very not sorry. “If it makes you feel any better, they’ll no doubt have way more questions about us than you guys when the time comes.” Her tone shifts back to the nervousness at that.
“You know we’ll be there for you guys if anything goes sideways, right?” Magnus says reaching out for Maia’s hand in a light friendly touch. “Not that I think it will, Maryse may seem cold, but she’s evolving immensely and I may not know Simon’s mother or Luke all that well but nothing about them seems like the type to react poorly.”
“’We’” she chuckles, always teasing Magnus about how he and Alec are practically married using the royal we more often than their own names. “I know,” she says in response to his more important words squeezing his hand lightly in thanks before letting go. “On both counts, but it’s still a little nerve wracking. Maybe telling Alpha will be good practice.”
Magnus almost spits his coffee out at the suggestion.
“Yeah, no that’s definitely not gonna be,” Magnus laughs.
Maia shrugs holding back her own laugh behind her hand, “If only our parents were all spazzes then it’d be perfect practice.”
They chat idly after that, a bit about Maia’s new relationship development including making promises of a double date soon, but mostly about school. The reality of Alec and Magnus’ impending graduation may still be months off, but it’s all lead to them spending less time with the trio than they’d like. Magnus in particular has missed these weekly coffee catch-ups with Maia.
A few hours later they part ways, Maia heading off for a date with Simon and Izzy. Magnus slips into his car ready to head home to do the math homework he’s been putting off for days and call it an early night when his phone buzzes from his pocket.
[7:45 -- from: Alec]
              Well, you won the bet.
Magnus smiles triumphantly as he types a response. In August he’d bet Alec that the trio would be together officially before Thanksgiving, Alec had disagreed thinking that Simon in particular wouldn’t pull it together until New Years.
[7:48 – to: Alec]
That I did, ye of little faith. Sherman didn’t disappoint, our girls would never allow it!
Alec’s response is almost immediate, a succession of texts.
[7:49 – from Alec]
              I know, I know.
              I’m just happy for them.
Iz hasn’t looked this happy in a long time.
So, this bet, you never laid down parameters for what the winner gets?
Magnus smiles at the first few texts, always endeared by Alec’s kind heart and his love for his sister. The last text however gets him thinking about how he could claim his victory, every idea he has means that he will absolutely not be doing his math homework tonight.
[7:52 – to Alec]
How about I swing by and pick you up and you can make me that famous Lightwood French toast as payment for my victory. Also, at minimum I’ll require 100 kisses.
Neither of the prizes are anything that Alec wouldn’t do for him anyway or things that Alec won’t enjoy himself just as much but that makes them all the better. He throws his phone in the cup holder not even bothering to read the incoming texts, knowing that Alec will be eagerly waiting on the porch for him.
And he’s right, ten minutes later he pulls up to curb and see’s Alec with his hands buried deep in the front pocket of his hoodie pacing the porch in wait. He bounds down the steps as soon as he spots Magnus’ car and slips into the passenger side quickly.
“Hi,” he says leaning over to kiss Magnus in greeting.
Magnus smiles as he leans back and moves to pull away from the curb, “That’s one down, 99 to go babe.”
Alec laughs brightly, a wide endearing smile on his face that Magnus can see from the corner of his eye.
“99 might just not be enough,” Alec says and Magnus somehow falls a little bit more in love, hoping that Maia, Izzy and Simon feel as happy together as he does right in this moment with Alec.

Easy to Say I Love You
Part of my Malec/Saiabelle Power Rangers AU
Read on AO3
“That was exhausting,” Alec huffs as he drops face first onto his bed, Magnus trailing into the bedroom behind him.
“It wasn’t that bad,” Magnus chuckles closing the door firmly behind him, the music and remaining guests from Isabelle Halloween bash downstairs muffling to a dull thud.
Alec simply hums in agreement flipping onto his back as he feels the bed dip beside him, parties are not his thing but trailing along with his hand in Magnus’ the whole night had been decidedly better than in the past when he’d hidden away in a corner. Magnus sits down legs dangling over the edge of the mattress and leans back against Alec’s side a bit. Alec lifts his hand to grip trail his fingers along the Magnus’ ringless ones.
“It’s for costume accuracy,” Magnus had explained when Alec had questioned his lack of jewelry earlier in the day the statement only furthering Alec’s argument that for costume accuracy Magnus shouldn’t be wearing a shirt. If Alec had to look like a pirate, Magnus could go shirtless.
When Alec had said just that Magnus simply sighed, “If I don’t wear a shirt we won’t ever actually attend your sister’s party.”
Alec would not have minded.
But, a week before when Magnus had suggested couples costumes he had expected some silly pun or something of the like. Especially since they were on a time crunch and had to work with only what Magnus had left over from previous Halloween’s. He definitely hadn’t expected Magnus to somehow have the exact pieces to put together Prince Eric and Li Shang costumes for them. Alec had tried to talk him into something simpler; arguing that it wasn’t even a couple’s costume.
“A bi icon and the second hottest Disney prince are absolutely a couple’s costume because we are a couple,” Magnus smiled throwing the pieces of Alec’s costume at him. “Plus, I’m just saying arguably they could have dated, as could have Ariel and Mulan.”
So Alec had relented, accepting his pirate costume, but still being disappointed that Magnus was wearing a shirt.
“I can’t believe Simon wore his damn armor as a costume,” Magnus says after a few moments of silence fingers trailing lightly on Alec’s palm now.
“I find it more disbelieving that people believed him when he said he built Alpha,” Alec laughs. When Simon had arrived clad in his armor not a care in the world with Alpha toting behind Alec had immediately gone into overprotective mode worried that they would all get caught as the summers masked heroes. However, he quickly came to realize that the party attendees couldn’t care less, plus Simon wasn’t the only one dressed as a Power Ranger his just happened to look way higher tech. “I mean I know Simon’s a smart guy, but come on, I can’t figure out if the people we attend school with are just dumb or gullible?”
“I think it’s a bit of both,” Magnus smiles in response resituating himself to lie down next to Alec on his side, head pillowed on Alec’s now outstretched bicep. Alec maneuvers to his side facing Magnus nearly nose to nose.
“That’s a little concerning,” he smiles reaching out his free hand to trace his fingers along Magnus’ cheekbone as Magnus simply hums in response his eyes falling shut. Magnus always looks beautiful, but there’s something particularly striking about him in this moment. His face is bare of any makeup, hair soft and up in tight bun, all night everyone’s seen Magnus without his usual armor of eyeliner and layered necklaces, but here and now it’s only for Alec to see. Because even without the makeup and the high standing hair, downstairs Magnus was the Magnus people at school expected him to be, a lively life of the party.
And there’s no doubt Magnus is those things through and through, but he’s also this; quiet, calm and breathtakingly beautiful in the soft moonlit glow coming through the windows. This is a side of Magnus that only Alec truly gets to see, he loves this side of Magnus just as much as the life of the party.
Love being a word that Alec shouts internally at a near constant rate these days. It’s what’s been growing alongside the beats of his steady heart since the summer just aching to burst out of his chest. Alec’s caught himself almost saying it a hundred times now since Izzy had made a sly teasing comment about marrying Magnus one day and Alec had realized deep in his heart that he could see it happening somewhere far down the line. It’s nearly slipped out while sitting across from him in the library head buried in a book studying, during increasingly burning hot make out sessions and once during a date where they’d been rudely interrupted by a mugger harassing an old lady down the street and had to take action. He blames how good Magnus had looked flipping the mugger over with just the strength in his arms, no superpowers needed on that one though.
He’d gotten as far as ‘I lo-‘the other day in Magnus’ kitchen watching his boyfriend poorly decorate Halloween cupcakes. He’d covered it up with shoving an entire cupcake into his own mouth, if Magnus found the action odd or noticed the slip up he’d saved Alec the embarrassment by not mentioning it. Magnus’ mother who’d been watching the pair from living room had definitely not done the same, smacking Alec lightly on the back of the head and whispering, “Just tell him already.”
Alec’s never been in love before, never done any of this before really, so he can’t sort out when‘s the time to just say it. He’s 99 percent sure Magnus feels the same, but he doesn’t want to say it in some non-descript moment. He wants it to matter, to be special, it should be easy to say ‘I love you.’
Alec’s fingers stop moving, his large hand cupping Magnus’ jaw his thumb rubbing softly just below his eye. Magnus’ eyes flutter open at that, brown pools filled with affection boring into Alec’s and Alec simply can’t find it in himself to hold it in any longer.
“I love you,” he says, steady and strong and find it really is that easy to say I love you. He holds out his heart to Magnus on a platter with three simple words and prays that Magnus accepts it. The room is quiet, save for Magnus’ quick sharp intake of breath, the sounds of party downstairs now barely even a hum in Alec’s mind, his focus is centered, all Magnus and nothing else. It’s not a rare thing, but it’s more important than it’s ever been.
Magnus scoots in closer to Alec pulling him in by the hip so they’re chest to chest, barely a hairs breadth between them.
“I love you too,” he whispers into the quiet, a beaming smile on his mouth that Alec gladly connects his lips to. They pull back a moment later, smiling too much to really kiss when it hits Alec.
“I can’t believe I just told you I love you for the first time dressed as a pirate,” Alec groans pressing his forehead to Magnus’ and shutting his eyes.
Magnus chuckles brushing their noses together and, though Alec can’t see it he knows it’s happening, rolls his eyes.
“You aren’t dressed like a pirate, even Maia said you didn’t look like a pirate and she’s dressed up as an actual pirate Alexander.”
“She also told Simon that his robot dance is better than Alpha’s who’s an actual robot, so I don’t think I can really trust her right now.”
“That’s because she’s smitten,” Magnus laughs which coaxes Alec’s eyes to open. “And if you are a pirate, well you’re a pirate I’m in love with so that can’t be so bad can it?”
Alec smiles leaning in to kiss Magnus quickly, “Not bad at all.”
They collide back together smiling and kissing until their lips are sore and their giggles calm. Eventually Magnus ends up on top of Alec settled comfortably on his chest, placing slow and sweet kisses to his lips. For a moment Alec flashes back to the first time Magnus landed on top of him like this in a scramble speeding away in the back of a van, oh how Alec wishes he could tell the him of that moment just how beautifully things would turn out.
Alec slides his hand up Magnus’ back hand slipping underneath the wrap around shirt to find warm skin.
Magnus pulls back abruptly leaving Alec’s lips in the air mid kiss.
“Still trying to get me out of this shirt I see,” he teases.
“You’re the one who kept talking about costume accuracy,” Alec grumbles, trying in vain to lift up and rejoin their lips. “And as I recall Li Shang does not wear a shirt during his musical performance.”
Magnus snicker leaning in a little but still just far away enough Alec can’t quite reach his lips.
“Well, then Alexander,” he says with far too much seriousness. “Let’s get down to business.”
He lifts back up to his knees, Alec’s hands slipping from under his shirt, still comfortably bracketed by Alec’s legs cackling delightfully at him a he groans and rolls his eyes skyward before sitting up to pull his boyfriend close.
“That was terrible,” he drawls out placing his hands on Magnus’ hips and slipping his fingers back up under his shirt.
Magnus drapes his arms around Alec’s neck placing a light peck on his lips and pulls back with smile.
“You love it,” he smirks. “You love me.” He says a little softer.
“Always,” Alec replies just as soft, pulling Magnus back down so they fall on the bed and fall into each other.
