There's this strange moment of calm close to the end of Sadness Prayer. Oriko starts the story thinking about killing herself (you don't spend your one and only wish on asking the meaning of your life unless you're convinced it doesn't have one) and spirals down from there - she gets the closest thing she ever had to a friend killed, she sets up a ridiculous rube goldberg machine plan that kills half a dozen magical girls just to get a glimpse of Homura's powers, she gets both her and Kirika's hands dirty over and over again until they're both broken past the point of caring about casualties - until finally she reads her father's diary, learns that half the reason he killed himself was that he was terrified of her, and hits the bottom. She goes to confront the man who framed him for his crimes and then in the critical moment she gives up on revenge and becomes free
For the first and only time in the manga Oriko drops her facade and lets herself be a normal teenage girl instead of the perfect cold ideal she's been forcing herself to be. She decides to leave politics to adults, she remembers that there are people in the world who care about her and repairs her relationship with her uncle, she admits to herself that saving the world was always just a front she was putting up to try to pretend her life meant something and that what actually makes her happy is living a normal life with Kirika... and then as if she's cleared away all her regrets and settled her affairs she plows right ahead into her plan for a school shooting double suicide finale. She turns her girlfriend into a witch, tries to fight four magical girls at once, gets an entire school's worth of random civilians killed, finally succeeds in preventing the apocalypse by killing Madoka, and dies pointlessly throwing her body in the way of a blow that would have hit Kirika's lifeless corpse in a useless effort to protect the happiness she's long since given up. I'm going to be obsessed with her forever

Manga Witches... 2!!
Here comes the second post!! This one will focus on unnamed witches introduced in Oriko Magica, while the main spinoff's witches were all named (ex. Rosasharn, Cecil, etc.) the ones featured in Oriko Magica's side stories were not. Like last times, all of these witches were done together with @honestlyboringperson!
Tumblr media
We're starting off with Ankh, the tomb witch. Her nature is greed. A witch who desires nothing more than to be adorned with jewels and gold from head to toe. She can freely melt herself down into molten gold and reshape herself with new trinkets she absorbs. To defeat her easily catch her by surprise via attacking her while she is molten. She can easily be distracted with something shiny.
Tumblr media
Charlie, the Ouija witch with a maniacal nature, the witch is composed of only a twisted Oujia board body with long spindly legs. It has a planchette familiar reading out a message, if this message is completed, horrifying ghosts appear, nearly invincible to defeat. One must strike down this witch quick so such a thing won't happen. It loves to torment those who live alone, causing to breakdown and become insane. Soon becoming one more spirit that resides in the witch. Her weak spot is the “goodbye” portion on her body and simply moving the planchette over the goodbye will defeat this witch immediately, though it's a deed easier said than done.
Tumblr media
Daisy Belle, the witch of imprinting. It's nature is companionship. A shockingly small witch, she clings to other witches for protection and is either endeared by the witch or seen as a nuisance, it really depends on which witch it runs to. It may even cling to a meguca, though this a sign that the meguca is not what she seems, and is probably riddled with despair. It shows its emotions with the facial marking on its chest. This witch has very pinchable cheeks.
Tumblr media
Baneberry, the parfait witch. With an autophagic nature. It endlessly devour itself, hoping to find their true self within, but never finds in the end, leaving her unsatisfied. Her familiars fill her up with new things to try, this includes humans, debris, or even concepts. Simply tipping her over can defeat this large witch. The next post will be the third post, which will focus on unnamed witches that appeared in Suzune Magica!

Been reading Puella Magi Oriko Magica: Sadness Prayer, and I really like how it expands on Oriko’a backstory.
Kind of wish I read it before I wrote Oriko and Kirika’s chapters in my fanfic. At the time, I’d only read the original Oriko Magica, so I kind of worked off of that for their characters, but it would have been nice to know all this extra detail, too. It could definitely come in handy in the future…

breaking the tumblr fast to ask for prayer :') it is currently the WORST of times (though, in intense joyous flashes, occasionally also the best of times). I am bulldozing my way through the dregs of midterms, final exam prep, graduation plans, job applications, dorm volunteer stuff, all while trying to deal with/reckon with/endure/come to terms with/persevere through literally the deepest emotional pain I've ever been in lol

HC that Kirk is a great cook/baker but never really gets to showcase that skill cause his quarters [unlike Pike's] doesn't have a massive fucking kitchen he can play around in.
But the thing that draws him the most is old rationing recipes from the great depression. This man was on Tarsus where he nearly died from starvation, ofc he'd be super good at cooking with barely anything.
He also [imo] would also be super good at picking up clues as to if a plant is edible or not and likes to play that game in his head as he looks around planets as Spock goes around doing whatever he does with his tricorder.
And Spock and Bones don't know shit about these skills of his until they're all stranded somewhere and Kirk just cooks nonchalantly and the other two just look either [in Bones' case] bewildered and [in Spock's case] mildly baffled that their captain can just make 3 reasonably sized portions out of NOTHING.

Oriko's magical girl outfit is a wedding dress and Kirika's magical girl outfit is a tuxedo... They're a matched set, they're getting married, they love each other and die for it, Oriko is officially 22 cm taller than Kirika, I'm never going to stop thinking about them

i'm a little sad at how sparse steddyhands and stizzy art and writing is on here now after the finale (thankfully, i am still digging through the couple thousand fics up on ao3 so i'm not totally bereft)
because during the airing of the season there was new stuff in the tags every day, sometimes even every few hours, but i think the finale really punched all of us in the face
there's lots of good stuff from before s2 to go digging through of course, and ao3 and twitter still have some new art and fic and memes if you go looking for it, but the difference from before and now seems a bit stark
don't misunderstand me, this isn't me being defeatist, just being a bit melancholy (and mad at the s2 finale tbh lol) about it. shout out to the regulars i see in the tags still making stuff and posting jokes, ya'll are doing the most and i wish you all the passion and motivation and time to create in the world <3

Started reading Puella Magi Oriko Magica: Sadness Prayer, and so far Komaki Asako is my favorite character.
Tumblr media
Her personality reminds me of Kyouko. In fact, her interactions with Oriko remind me in some ways of Mami and Kyouko. Plus she’s a blue-coded Magical Girl, which I always like.
