Disco Elysium, is it:
Beautiful? Yes.
Dark? Yes.
Sad? Yes.
Rife with profoundly stupid moments that somehow don't derail or diminish those other things? O GOD, yes.
🤔Give an Example. You play as a detective. You and your partner suspect that a small island off the coast holds the clue that might finally resolve a case that involves a corrupt labor union, drug smuggling, armored corporate mercenaries, a widespread but poorly understood form of psychoactive matter, a cursed office building, the specter of student Communism, and Capitalist dictatorship in a post-revolutionary port city. As you board a small boat you get to say, "You take the engine, Kim. I'll hold the boombox."

i am probably so late to the game here but i just listened to Sea Power's Want To Be Free, the original track that the Sad FM song is based on
and ughfjghghgn it's SUCH a beautiful song. while the Sad FM song (titled Burn, Baby, Burn) is absolutely perfect for where it's used—hauntingly empty, eerie, and foreboding—Want To Be Free is fuller in sound, embodying a rather wistful quality but still quite melancholic as a whole
then THEN that familiar piano riff hits and its lilting quality literally sent shivers down my spine. the way the layers of sound build up as the song progresses, how the main vocals fade in with the backing choir toward the latter third of it....i had to stop what i was doing to just sit and give it my full attention
now,
don't even get me started on the lyrics
Now we're under the stars
Smoking cigars
On top of a motorcar
Hanging out
Like some kind of nebula
We
and this point marks the second time this song shares the exact same lyrics as DE's Burn, Baby, Burn:
Want to be free
Want to be free
It will last forever
Eternally
i'm just—
shoutout to this post by @mail-me-a-snail for this song discovery, it's all thanks to their excellent Kim Kitsuragi playlist which i highly recommend checking out!!

[Chorus]
I crashed before the birth of Christ
Pterodactyls swarming
You died in 1989
Want to get back to that morning in May
Keep you in bed, never escape
