“It took some trial and error to find the balance between "goofy" and "heroic" that’s essential to his character. It was important for him to be both familiar and ordinary to represent his background, but also be filled with the potential and charm of an important character in the works.”

In the grand tradition of stealing other people’s ideas, I’m gonna post snippets rather than one-word sentences.
1. [Monster Hunter] The Hunter’s Encyclopedia of Animals (First Edition) - Black Nargacuga
There are three proposed sources for the nargacuga’s name, each stemming from different language families across the world. The only undisputed consistency among them is the recurrence of the word cuga, derived from cougar, a reclusive and nocturnal felid that was likely the original namesake. Cuga /kugʌ/ is a case of postvocalic rhotic apocope (or /r/-dropping), in which the “r-sound” is omitted in pronunciation. The first theory suggests that narga comes from the Sanskrit word नाग (nāgá), a snake or serpent demon. The nargacuga’s superficially reptilian-feline appearance lends some credence to the derived meaning snake-cat. This etymology is widely regarded by scholars as the definitive source of the name. The second possibility is that narga descends from Latin nig-ra (black-NOM.F.SG). In this scenario, nigra would have undergone metathesis (nigra > nirga), followed by the appropriate sound changes in the vowels. Like many appearance-based etymologies, this one originates from the nargacuga’s blue-black plumage. The final, and perhaps least probable theory is that narga comes from the modern Mesoamerican word nagual, derived from Nahuatl nahuālli. The nagual is a human shapeshifter capable of taking the guise of various animals at night, notably owls, bats, wolves, jaguars, and pumas. In communities—such as Kokoto and Jumbo—where tonalism and shamanistics beliefs still hold sway, it’s thought that the strongest of these practitioners can assume the shape of a wyvern. The link between the nagual’s ability to transform into jungle cats, and the nargacuga’s nocturnal behavior, intelligence, and catlike features, suggests a connection between the two.
2. [RWBY] The Prices We’ve Paid - Chapter 2: Resurrection Grounds
“What is this place?” Emerald asked. Hazel regarded her impassively. “If we’re going to be staying here”—not that she was keen about the prospect, but she had a point to make—“shouldn’t we know what it’s called? I mean, unless you want us to start making up names.” For a moment, she thought he was going to refuse, or more likely, ignore them altogether. Then a small huff of air left him, somewhere between a sigh and a snort. “…The fortress is called Evernight,” he said. “The surrounding lands have no official name, as far as I know. But before this place faded into myth, it was sometimes called the black waste or the deadlands.” Well that was just fucking great.
3. [RWBY] Cognitive Metamorphosis in Senescent Grimm — A Correlative Review of the Consciousness-Longevity Paradigm on a Micro and Macro Scale
The Creatures of Grimm are organisms of incertae sedis on the modern tree of life, whose evolutionary history predates the earliest known evidence of cellular (bacterial, archaeal, eukaryotic) and non-cellular (viral) species on Remnant [1, 2]. Over the last eight decades, advancements in laboratory techniques pertaining to pneumatophysioscopy and electrographic imaging have led to new discoveries in Grimm research that supplanted the antiquated AB models [3, 4]. Preliminary findings have concluded that Grimm, despite their superficial similarities to animals, lack certain defining criteria of the phylum, such as cellular composition, obligate heterotrophy [5], sexual reproduction [6], and aerobic respiration [4], while shared traits such as motility appear to be homoplastic. On a surface level Grimm anatomy consists of a black integument with white ossified protrusions, and red venational patterns that are species-specific (known as scrimshaw) [7]. The internal structure of Grimm, however, defies conventional categorization, and presents its own complications that hinder any forays into physiological analysis. It is impossible to dissect Grimm, living or deceased, as the moment their damage threshold is exceeded and they sustain mortal wounding, they hemorrhage a smoke-like substance known as moribund vapor. Without interventive remediation this process is followed by death, and the corporeal form begins to dissolve in a manner akin to accelerated decomposition. What little has been discerned about the internal structure shows that Grimm don’t possess any biological systems analogous to organs, but instead an amorphous, bioluminescent red substance called rhodolymph. Not only have modern instruments been unable to isolate its atomic properties, but rhodolymph undergoes sublimation when exposed to oxygen [4, 8].

Sal-u-tations. Question about the RWBY video you posted that's in Japanese... you know who will be voicing the Japanese voice pf Neo?
There is no credited voice for Neo. I checked both the Japanese credit sequence and the extra “Encyclopedia of Remnant” booklet that came with it and she has no English or Japanese voice credited.

"The concept of her character was ‘Beautiful Spartan Woman.’ Monty requested a red and gold color scheme, high-heeled boots, and a sleek, shiny look with vintage black and leather accents to represent her competence. I think the juxtaposition with Jaune was subconscious, but the result is a very nice balance when you look at them side by side."

“I always have so much fun designing villains! I used a red velvet dress to give her a dramatic sophistication, an asymmetrical mini-skirt for a strong personality, and gray hair with black glass accessories for an "evil Cinderella" kind of vibe.”

"Penny's concept started out as a "steampunk doll." I started out with a Victorian design, but it didn't mesh well with the stylish world of "RWBY," so I mixed "vintage" with "cyberpunk" in the design and tried to make her look clean and innocent. Personally, she's my favorite character."

"She is the epitome of the "strict and sexy teacher," so she was a lot of fun to design. Who doesn't like a witch in a tight mini-skirt, high heels, pulled-up hair, glasses, and a whip? (LOL)."

Monty's original design called for long blonde hair, a monochrome shirt, a red skirt and white elbow-length gloves. Bubbly and pretty, the first thing that came to my mind was "Pink!"

"We imagined him as a character who wants to be hated by the audience, not loved. The sharp haircut and active wardrobe was essential to his design as a cynical and cold-hearted delinquent. It was challenging to create a simple yet appealing design that was stripped down to the essentials, but we tried to incorporate lots of bold lines."

"The outfits were designed with ethnic garments and tastes in mind, so beads and tassels were used as decorative elements in the design, but in the end, it was kept simple. Still, the overall silhouette was unchanged."

"Blake, inspired by the heroine of Beauty and the Beast, is a dark, brooding character. The streamlined lines were inspired by the character's agile fighting style and elusive feline nature. I was inspired by the classic "circus" theme in the clothing, which I love, but I also wanted to evoke the poor treatment of animals in circuses."

"I designed Ozpin to be dignified and intelligent, mysterious and composed, while still balancing all that with a cool feeling. Since he's the Headmaster of Beacon Academy, we wanted him to be well-dressed, but with disheveled hair, showing off a relaxed demeanor. The coffee mug is his signature item, something we took from Monty's love of coffee. He was designed like a chrysalis, with the layers of his clothing hiding away his depths and the secrets he keeps."

"Monty's original design was full of personality and confidence. The skirt around her waist was adapted from the first draft, since Monty’s a fan of asymmetrical and edgy accessories."

"The overall color scheme was quickly decided upon based on the image of a gentle Asiatic with a polite manner of speech, a martial arts master, and a lotus emblem. The design started out as a more delicate, androgynous, bishonen look, but after a few takes, it took a more masculine turn. I was quite impressed with how well the colors coordinated with Nora."

"A "princess" from head to toe. She was a great concept because I love strong characters in fancy, elegant outfits. Monty and I both like to add a splash of red, and it really shows in her outfit."
