You could always go fantasy with the places in game and replace Ireland and Wales with made-up names. Then you could change the politics to whatever you wanted them to be. The war could've been started from several houses within Arthur's own or allied land, which still supported Uther and refused to recognize the "soft" king or something. Just an idea in case you're finding real-world settings to be too restricting in how you want to set up the politics of the world.
WAIT. you gave me a possibly great idea

Ok, I'm wondering... reblog with what nations aside from your own you like the best (not what country you'd like to stay in but like, someone whose history moves you/whose customs or values you love/who you root for in football/who has a traditional friendship with your country etc)
(add your own nationality in the tags)

Bloody Sunday Massacre anniversary is tomorrow. My dad grew up hearing from ill informed Americans about how it was an ‘age old religious conflict’ (those Protestants and Catholics never get alone). How the violence in the north, the arrests and raids and terrorizing was justified (they had to stop those awful carbombing IRA terrorists!). How it was impossible, the country had been conquered for centuries (why would they see freedom now? they lost the war. let it rest).
And of course, it isn’t completely free and perfect. This year I’ve seen the “Irish Unification of 2024” Star Trek meme a dozen times. It’s heartening to think that such a thing could be possible, by chance to coincide with a scifi show’s alternate history.
(But all I think of is Palestine. The lies and misinformation and the propaganda machine oiled in innocent blood.)
Even today you cannot publically display the names of the killers of the Bloody Sunday Massacre in the UK. The families of the murdered have yet to see justice. Some doubt they ever will.
(I think of the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians starving, grinding animal feed for flour in a manufactured famine.)
The Choctaw and Cherokee nations sent donations during An Ghorta Mor. The Sultan sent ships of food and aid only for the British to turn most away.
(I also think of the thousands of Gaeltacht after the language was pushed to the brink of extinction. I think of the homes built on ancestral land, no more landlords or laws prohibiting Irish claims. I think of the music and laughter and dance of my family who once fled as refugees of a manufactured famine - we call our cousins across the sea and sing Come Out Ye Black and Tans over choppy phone connections.
I think of a free Palestine, and I see it - because I can see a free Ireland, more free than she’s been in centuries, closer to unity than she’s ever been. It won’t be easy or pretty - it won’t end over night, or over a few years. But that never stopped the spirit of a people dedicated to their own liberation. I know because I’ve seen it, I’ve lived among the fruits of freedom.
We can hold their hand and say, we know your pain. We see your struggle. We understand the injustice your face. We are proof that it is possible to overcome these horrors and see days filled with peace and joy. We will walk with you.)

next steps re: lizzy biting the big one
starting with india, kenya, pakistan, grenada, or cyprus, countries begin to leave the commonwealth
liz truss tries to do some diplomacy about it and it doesn’t work
charles the third of his name or what the fuck ever tries to do some diplomacy about it, says something BREATHTAKINGLY RACIST and actively makes it worse.  countries start leaving even faster.
australia peaces out
scotland announces a new independence vote before the end of the year
wales, not to be outdone, announces an independence vote before the end of the MONTH
canada peaces out
someone starts a conspiracy theory on tiktok that liz truss had the queen poisoned just after their official meeting
Ireland announces the affirmative results of the reunification vote it held while you motherfuckers were distracted via the Sinn Féin twitter.   britain pulls a spain circa 2017 and tries to prevent it
king charles III dies of a heart attack from stress, smh guys he just wanted to live out the remainder of his life in peace while directly profiting from the imperial and colonial violence of his mother ancestors, he wasn’t expecting to actually have to WORK for it
king arthur returns, sword in hand, to reclaim his rightful place as king.  the tories, desperate at this point for some kind of miracle, let him do it.
his first act as king is to demand the abolition of the british monarchy, because “strange women lying in ponds and distributing swords is no basis for a system of government”
someone calls a vote of no confidence in liz truss.  she fails it (in large part due to the conspiracy theory), they hold an election
Christopher eccleston becomes the prime minister

Playing DAN and HAU next to each other is a great example of HER placing a game in a foreign country and then having a cast from everywhere else. We don’t see this in CUR, SAW, or CAP and it is also mixed with VEN, ICE, SPY, LIE, and TMB. I understand that in a global society there will be people from all around the world in a given spot but I feel in HAU specifically it is a slap in the face to the Irish to have a British cast.
Others have spoken about the dismissive attitude towards the very valid concerns the Irish would have with the English. Kyler herself displays a common attitude of the English educated in not knowing of the atrocities the English enacted on the Irish. Donal is a presented as overly hating the English with no perceivable reason - so he seems unreasonable when anyone who knows about Irish history would know he is perfectly within his rights.
He absolutely would have been an adult during the Troubles, and is at most a single generation removed from Irish independence. We do not know what he did or who he lost, but we know that he watched others be killed over these issues. All of those in the story were alive for the Good Friday agreement - which turns 25 next month.
Another hit is the near complete lack of Irish in the story. We have some names sure, and Ogham runes, but the Irish language is beautiful and there has been so much work put into preserving it. It survived years of illegality and of people being outright murdered for speaking it. We know HER can integrate language, and they have in so many other games. Irish should be a part of this. (Also all signage should be in Irish and English because while there are two languages Irish should technically receive priority.)
The Irish Diaspora is huge, mostly because of specific steps that were taken by the English to exterminate Irish language, people, and culture and replace it with their own. Irish potato famine you say? Yeah, we can blame the English for how bad that was. We can blame the English in general for the shift to farming the land rather than being more pasture based.
Ireland has been essentially at peace for most millennial lives (and typically Ireland tries to stay out of outside wars - which is why the “military type” comment at the end of HAU seemed out of place) but as we have seen this past year a match could still set everything off. My dad, who has competed professionally in fishing, recalls not being able to fish in the waterways growing up because the English prohibited it. One of my grans ran a B&B where she educated English guests on what had been done to the Irish. Irish history is rarely taught properly (that is to say, with the Irish perspective in mind) outside of Ireland, which is a true shame.

PLEASE talk more about your Terror animal AU!!!!!! Also your choices were so good hngsksks Nedward as a nervous little horse, Blanky as a badger, Goodsir is so sheep-coded,,,,,,,what would you pick for Crozier? Fitzjames? Also curious if Hickey would be a rat in this AU bc canon aligns him with rats or if you’d go with something else? !!!Anyways cool idea cool art excited for more!!!
Thank you so much for this ask, I would love nothing more!
So for this AU I’ve tried to strike a balance between visual resemblance and where the characters grew up, since I think there’s less leeway than, say, in a dæmon AU. So Nedward who was born around Hackney is a very close match while for Goodsir I’ve gone a bit further north for the Soay sheep because it looks more like him.
I am partial to the ginger cat vibe that Crozier has, and I’ve certainly seen him portrayed that way by other artists. I think he might be a Manx cat, because of the myths about them arriving from the sea and their popularity as ship’s cats, and the Admiralty certainly talks behind his back about whether he might have lost his tail to frostbite somehow.
For Fitzjames I think he’s some kind of sighthound. This period is before a lot of breed standards were established, but most people assume he’s a saluki or something of that ilk because they’ve just come over to Britain from the mainland and so he’s regarded as terribly in-fashion. Fitzjames himself doesn’t quite know what he is but suspects he’s a mongrel.
As for Hickey? Well his papers say he’s a weasel. The black tip on his tail is because he dipped it in the tar by accident, to misidentify him as a stoat is really quite rude…

There is no such thing as disunity. There is only the great binding nothingness of things. At one time, we were one. We will all be one again.
