Firstly, I wanted to say thank you for being one of the loudest voices of reason of this godforsaken fandom.

Secondly… Can I also share my complains? I feel like I’ll die if I won’t talk about it.

I feel like you probably talked about it before, but still these whole “Eddie being the only person in entire group who understands him” trop started a new era of fics where Steve is almost literally hated by Dustin & the party, no one (from Dustin to Hopper) supports him (except for Eddie, of course. Look at out knight in shining armor) and even Robin (EVEN ROBIN GODDAMNIT) abandons him.

And I don’t know where is this desperate desire to isolate Steve from his found family comes from (well, actually, I have a couple ideas)…

These trop also might seem one of the reasons why shovel talks trop became so popular. And again, in this kind of things, everyone in the group suspects the worst about Steve. But… I mean, in my head, the only person who will receive shovel talks from literally everyone would be Eddie. I imagine that even Mike will show up just to say something “y’know dude, you’re cool and I admire you, but if you hurt Steve I smash your head with your guitar). God, there so much potential for Steve & the party dynamics. So much potential for Steve’s and Mike’s dynamic to explore, but no. Of course, we’ll chose the most toxic, abusive and horrendous relationship dynamic to ever exist.

These “Hellfire club feat. Eddie acting like disrespectful pigs while being guests at Steve’s”… And Steve being a helpless damsel in distress who locks up in his room and cries instead of kicking these assholes out… Lord, give me strength.

This top/bottom, dom/sub shit… Look, I actually headcanon Steve as bi. And. I think that he most likely prefer to be bottom. (Not because he’s weak helpless cry baby who can’t stand up for himself), but because he takes care about everyone so much, that he will probably want for once be the person who receives care from his partner. However, this shit with feminisation and infantilisation of Steve went too far. I mean, you want to ship Eddie with someone fragile, feminine, gentle and someone who will actually cry when people being mean to them? Chrissy Cunningham is right there. There’s nothing wrong with shipping f/m ships. I’m telling ya, your taste hasn’t “upgrade” just because you started shipping mlm.

It’s one thing when people recognise that they’re writing toxic, even abusive relationship. But the way some harringrove fics recently started looked better in comparison with some (actually most) steddie fics is just sending me… Yeah, steddies be like “harringrove is this”, “stancy is that” and then write most horrific, toxic and unhealthy shit ever.

Don’t even get me started on this “Robin starts to care less about Steve/stops caring about Steve at all because of Nancy, or other shitty idea for the plot of another shitty fic”… Just fuck ya’ll. Seriously.

Again, thank you very much.

And honestly, the way that rockie is (most of the time) in the love triangle fics in which ronance is endgame…

I mean, the most popular fic with rockie is actually a Steve-centered fic (and it’s good, cause it captures Steve’s dynamic with the party) with rockie being a background ship.

And the second most popular rockie fic is actually a ronance fic with vickie being abuser & manipulator. Ronance shippers stop making Vickie gross and rockie as a whole about ronance challenge. Level impossible.

it’s honestly insane the extent that people feel they have to go to to make eddie seem… more important to steve? they have to totally isolate steve from 90% of his friendships. make characters prefer eddie, and say horrible shit to steve, all to make eddie seem like a good option. the only person that treats steve well. that doesn’t spit on him and treat him like shit. and even then that’s often accompanied by eddie’s friends treating steve like shit and eddie going along with it. it’s just ridiculous (and screams of abusive dynamics, but that’s by the by).

shovel talks my beloathed. they suck a lot anyway because people aren’t always great at writing them lmao. but literally the character within steddie that would be receiving shovel talks… eddie!

i mean. these shovel talks also typically happen in a universe where steve saves eddie’s fucking life. and people still feel the need to write all of steve’s friends and families as warning him against hurting eddie. like. wtf lmao.

the way steve and the party dynamics have been left out to die… take me back to a post s2 world!!!!!!!

don’t get me started on the hellfire fics. got steve acting pathetic when my baby boy is a BITCH!!!!

it’s actually so crazy how reactive steddies got about hellcheer and then went to such efforts to deconstruct steve’s character and turn him into chrissy. just fucking ship hellcheer!!!

all that drama about steddies finally being a “good” steve ship, and trying to write the most fics. all to create a toxic and abuse dynamic that rivals harringrove… alright. okay.

so many dynamics suffer at the hands of people prioritising romance and prioritising eddie and it’s literally depressing lol.

rockie was never even given a chance!!! from day one other shippers have done all they can to vilify vickie and for what? because she’s a cute bisexual that loves robin???? let my girl fucking live!!!

Don't mind me, it's Rueleigh. I'm just rambling about Stancy and their trauma over Barb again. Ignore me if you want to.

I know some people don't understand this, but Nancy and Steve's story isn't finished. A lot of things were left unsaid, and both of their traumas over what happened to Barb were buried. People want to get mad at Steve for trying to deal with it by pretending to be okay, but Nancy was pretending as well. She was pretending like she didn't love Steve, that she was just holding on to him because of Barb. She spent all that time pretending, feeling guilty because a part of her thought it was their fault that Barb died, and maybe by the both of them going to dinner with Barb's parents, they were absolving themselves of their sins. Their was nothing to absolve because despite what some people say, they didn't do anything wrong that night. The reason why Barb's death keeps being brought up for Nancy is because she thinks she worked through it, absolved herself of her sin by getting justice for Barb and letting Steve go. All she did was bury it down deep and pretend. But she needs Steve to work through it. Even if you guys don't ship them, that's a fact. It happened to both of them. Barb died the night they both had sex. As they say, it takes two to tango. People think that Steve doesn't feel guilty. They should realize that his problem connecting romantically with other people who aren't Nancy isn't just because he's still in love with her. Whether he realizes it or not, he feels guilty about what happened, and even though they didn't show it, it probably caused a lot of performance issues. They both need to work through it together, and I think once they do that, once they acknowledge that it wasn't their fault, we can all stop seeing Barb's death when we look at them, we can finally see what they would they would like once the cloud of Barb's death isn't hanging over them. Their story is not finished. Even when I hated the idea of them together, I recognized that. I hope they can finally heal together. Time away is what they both needed, I only wish Nancy had spent it single and with Jonathan as a friend. Steve got a real friend in Robin, and I think that's what Nancy needs as well. I hate the idea of Robin and Nancy together because they finally give her a friend who she has no romantic ties with, who she can form a connection with without any of those strings. Robin is her platonic friend, a best friend that she can finally allow herself to have since Barb died. Steve is the love of Nancy's life, whether people realize that or not. Robin is her best friend, her romantic partner's platonic soulmate. I love that for Robin too because she needs to have a woman friend she isn't attracted to. Nancy clearly isn't her type. (She prefers blonds and redheads, duh.) I just think Robin is also a good way to help them both through that, too. The three of them just lean on each other. Eddie's death and eventual resurrection (that man is NOT dead) will also, in some way, help them through it, especially when they see him reunite with Chrissy. And as much as I love Steddie, Eddie would make a good friend for Steve, too. Hellcheer, Stancy, and Rovickie have always been endgame for me even when I hated Stancy. I no longer hate Stancy, though. That's all, folks. Woowee! This is a long one.

Romantic Lumax is not endgame

(This is probably not going to be the most structured analysis, but here we go.)

Now believe me, I'm just as sad as you are, I love Lumax, but I'm also convinced.

There's really just too much evidence to the contrary for the couple. They've been hinting at this for multiple seasons.

There are comparisons drawn and statements made that change how you might view Lumax, and there’s the issue of parallels. Lumax often parallels Melvin and Byler, showing that while they were really in love - Byler - they aren't an endgame couple - Melvin.

I've honestly been wondering about Lumax for quite a while. We know the ending scene of season four, where we have our three endgame couples, Jopper, Jancy, and Byler standing together at the end of the world.

I've always thought about this scene and what they thought they were doing. Because, if those are the endgame couples, and Lumax is also an endgame couple, why isn't Lumax in the scene? And of course, if Lumax isn't an endgame couple, why do everything that they have done with their relationship?

Now, the answer to the first question is simple. They aren't an endgame couple. But the second question is where it gets more tricky. Why would the Duffers even bother with Lumax from season to season, create such a dynamic, where everyone loves them and wants them to be endgame, but breaking them up repeatedly and giving us scenes that don't bode well for the future of Lumax?

Of course, there's more than just that final scene that's contributing to my doubts. That's just where they began.

Another scene that gave me pause was in episode 4, Dear Billy. Max is getting Vecnaed when she calls out for Lucas and Dustin. Let me say this again. Lucas AND Dustin. We know from previous seasons that typically one might call out the name of the person that means the most to them - El and Will calling for Mike and Nancy calling for Jonathan - but we know that Max doesn't see Dustin romantically, and she calls for both Dustin and Lucas, meaning they have the same importance in her mind. She wasn't just calling out for them because they came to the graveyard with her, because she doesn't call for Steve, even though he was present. We've also seen how Will only calls out Mike's name on Halloween, even though Lucas, Dustin, and Max were all present. So, Max calls for Lucas and Dustin. I mean, Max could always be developing romantic feelings for Dustin, but that makes no narrative sense and we have no evidence to back it up. We have seen that Max is getting closer to Dustin as the distance between her and Lucas grows, such as when she went to Dustin first out of everyone who was around after Chrissy's murder. But she is not in love with Dustin. There's no reason for her to be. There's no evidence. As such, the scene where she calls for both Dustin and Lucas is in contrast with the other three scenes I mentioned. It highlights that these two relationships are platonic.

In season 4, Max is having difficulty being vulnerable with Lucas, something that we see in both Stncy and Melvin in various seasons, whereas Byler, Jopper, and Jancy all have these sweet, emotionally vulnerable and honest moments with each other, in both season 3 and season 4. The moment Max tried to be vulnerable with Lucas - to tell the truth - Vecna intervened, stopping her. Max was unable to be vulnerable with Lucas throughout the entire season.

In S4 Ep 6, the group is walking through the woods on their way to Skull Rock, to meet up with Eddie and they’ve all grouped off. Dustin and Steve, Robin and Nancy, and Lucas and Max. Dustin, Steve, Robin, and Nancy are all in platonic pairings, so why would Lumax be a romantic pairing in this situation?

Lucas and Max have a small heart-to-heart where Lucas apologizes for not being there for her, and she tells him it’s not his fault and all that. Cut to Robin and Nancy, walking together. Robin says that Lucas and Max are adorable, and that she’s glad that this experience has begun to “rekindle old flames that should not have been put out” or something like that. Nancy asks if Robin means that as a hint, and Robin admits that it is. She wants Steve and Nancy to get together. She compares Lumax's reconciliation with a potential Stncy reconciliation. This is connecting Lumax and Stncy, and the couples’ futures.

Max's flashback sequence showed a lot of Lucas and El, her two closest friends, but also Dustin quite a few times, and even a shot of Mike. There is no shot of Will, because they weren't very close.

Max's good memory (the light) was the Snow Ball, but the Snow Ball was more than just where she first kissed Lucas. It was the first time that we see the party all together, no one possessed or anything. It was the very first time the entire party was united.

Lumax, Stncy, and Melvin all had multiple breakups, Stncy breaking up in season one and two, Lumax in season 3 and 4, and Melvin in season 3 and most likely 4 or 5. Lumax, Stobin, and Stncy were all identified and encouraged by Dustin. Lumax and Stobin both grabbed hands, and Dustin talked to both Steve and Lucas about the "electricity" he felt between the couples afterwards.

El and Max were both not upset over their breakups in s3. When El dumps Mike and climbs on the bus, the lyrics talk about her being “as cold as ice” but the lyrics are applicable to Max here as well, not just El. If they were meant to be about El, and not about Max, the shot would be more El centric. She would be the focus of the shot, but she’s not centered or in the foreground. Instead, her and Max are on the same level.

The scene where Max washes out Lucas' eyes after he gets sprayed with perfume parallels the scene where Max cleans up El's nosebleed, placing both scenes on the same level as each other, a platonic one.

Jancy, Jopper, and Byler are all slowburns, where the characters have known each other for years before getting romantically involved, whereas Melvin, Stncy, and Lumax were quite the opposite.

Steve dated a lot of girls and he probably didn't notice Nancy until shortly before they started dating. "You're gonna be so cool now..." - Barb, s1 ep1. This implies that now that Nancy and Steve are dating, she's going to be cool, or that before, Steve didn't hang around them. Lucas and Max met and then started dating a month later. Mike and El kissed within a week of their meeting.

The scene with Lucas holding Max's body and crying wasn't romantic, since El was there too, although Lucas didn't know that. Both El and Lucas being there at Max's death placed them on the same level, a platonic one.

In season 3 episode 1, Lucas and Max both leave the hillside before Dustin and Will, skipping hand in hand, just like El and Mike did. Lucas and Mike both make several large blunders in s3, saying stupid things/lying to their girlfriends, and they both call their girlfriends members of a different species. Lucas' relationship advice for Mike didn't work, showing that Lucas' relationship experience isn't anything that an endgame relationship would use.

Now, Lucas staying by Max's bedside parallels Byler and the Byler/Lumax double date could be taken as evidence for endgame Lumax, but I don't think they are. I think it's evidence that, unlike Stncy and Melvin, Lumax is a healthy relationship. No one is lying to the other and no one has to change who they are to be “loved”. Their love is requited, unlike Melvin and Stncy. But they have broken up and they won't be getting back together.

Some of the evidence that places El and Lucas on the same level could mean Elumax endgame (as this post explains), but the Lumax/Melvin parallels have discouraged this, as well as the symbolism where we see El standing alone at the end of the season.

Recently, I posted a compilation of a series of platonic hugs.

These posts are all times when El was frightened, she's hugging people who her relationship with is familial or platonic. But later on we see...

This pic could be taken as evidence to disprove any romantic Elmax theories, due to the parallels above, and then we see...

This. Lucas holding Max. We have a whole ton of platonic friends/family hugging each other like this and then a supposedly endgame couple?

All of these pictures have two major things in common. One, the character being hugged is upset and crying. Two, the character isn't looking at the person who is hugging them, or any other character that's in the scene with them.

All of the previous pictures were platonic, why wouldn't this one be? Two of the scenes take place between supposedly "endgame" couples, Lumax and Melvin. Both of these scenes have other people in the shot, whereas the other pictures only had the two hugging characters. (Living-character wise, anyway. I'm pretty sure the Elmax hug has Billy's body in the scene.)

Anyway, I love Lumax as much as the next person (as long as the next person isn't a Lumax stan acc bc I obv don't love it quite that much) but they're just not endgame. I think Max, Lucas, and El are all going to end up single in s5 (hopefully with bi!Lucas and bi!Max canon because the rainbow associations, explained in the post i linked a while ago, are insane).

Stranger things teens ship analysis

disclaimer: I can’t write about all the stranger things ships in one post, so I have another post about stranger things kids ships (Byler, Lumax, etc.), and am also planning to make one about the adults.

Jancy: Jancy was really cute up until season 4. Then their relationship became kinda toxic. But in all the other seasons I definitely shipped them, and I’m pretty confident that they are an endgame ship. Rating: 6.5/10

Stancy: I’ve never shipped Stancy, and I don’t think that the duffers want us to either. They were clearly just used as a prop to get Jancy going, and they were quite a toxic relationship. Steve and Nancy are better off with other people, and I hope that Steve will realize that like Nancy did. Rating: 0/10

Ronance: The idea of Ronance is cute and I ship it about as much as I ship Jancy, but I don’t see it becoming canon because Robin and Vickie both canonically like eachother, but who knows, I wouldn’t mind much if I were wrong 🤷. Rating: 6/10

Jargyle: Jargyle is awesome, and I love it. I ship it about as much romantically as I do platonically, and you guys are really out here doing gods work with the fanwork. I don’t see it becoming canon because it’s pretty clear that they are just besties, but I’d love it if it was. Rating: 7/10

Stonathan: to be honest I don’t see the chemistry at all with this one, but the idea of the ship is cute. And I mean, Steve was pretty chill with the fact that Jonathan literally slept with his girlfriend in season 2. Rating:4/10

Steddie: I liked Steddie at first, but Steddie fans have kinda ruined it for me. A lot of them are either Eddie stans/simps, or fujoshis, both of which are a red flag. The ship it’s self is really cute, but some of the fans are problematic and we all know that if one of them wasn’t white there wouldn’t be nearly as many fans, I mean look at them compared to jargyle, both are healthy ships, but only one has a large amount of creepy fans, and yet that one has WAY more shippers. I think that that’s a little suspicious. (Also I’m aware that there are plenty of normal Steddie shippers out there, I just think that there are more problematic ones than there should be.) Rating: 4/10

Stobin: NO. NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT. ROBIN IS A LESBIAN. IF YOU SHIP STOBIN ROMANTICALLY, GET OFF MY ACCOUNT. Rating: -100000/10

Rockie: (is that the ship name for Robin and Vickie?) I don’t have that much of an opinion on this ship, but it’s pretty cute I guess. My only problem with it is that I wish that they had given Vickie more screen time or introduced her earlier in the series because it’s hard to me to care about a ship when I hardly know anything about one of the characters. I feel like that was kinda bad writing on the duffers part, but that’s my only problem with it, other than that it’s fine. Rating: 6/10

Buckingham: The fanwork for this ship is everything, but they literally have zero moments together. I get why people ship it though because the dynamic would be cute. Rating: 5/10

Chrissy x Jason: (what is the ship name for this????) Jason really cared about Chrissy, but they barely got any time together on the show, plus Chrissy was giving me lesbian vibes so- Rating: 3/10

Harringrove: Billy was definitely a simp for Steve, but Billy was rasist, abusive, and just a terrible person in general and Steve deserves a lot better. Rating: -100/10

Barb x Nancy: where is the hype for this ship?? It’s so cute! Barb wasn’t alive for very long so I don’t have that much to say on the ship, but i definitely shipped them while she was alive. Rating 7.5/10

Hellcheer : I didn’t see any chemistry for this tbh. They interacted once, when Chrissy tried to buy drugs from Eddie and then got vecnaed. I just dont see where people are getting a romantic relationship from, I guess. Rating 3/10

i’m reading comments of people saying it was “genius” of Finn to improv the “you’re my superhero” line and yeah i agree. i think that was a great way to tie together all of mike’s feelings. the problem? that it wasn’t the creators of the goddamn show that wanted it.

What wasn’t planned but ended up happening?

- Robin being gay

- Mike’s “you’re MY superhero”

- s4 Jopper kiss

- Lucas’ “erica help”

- please add more

the point being that pivotal moments in this show, celebrated moments in this show weren’t the ideas of the show runners. things that are great about this show weren’t things that the duffers planned. saying that finn was a genius for that line, what does that say about the people that wrote the rest of the show? ONE line in one thirteen hour season gave you such chills?

i think about the things that they didn’t plan and just get so nervous of what other things they didn’t plan that the actors who actually know the characters put in there. or the things that the actors wanted to add but weren’t able to. this show is turning into what the actors want which is good but not good. it’s great that they know they’re characters well enough to know that what supposed to happen wouldn’t happen, but also it’s not great because there should be a plan that isn’t easily changed. imagine the stancy drama in s4 if steve and robin had actually dated! imagine if the duffers got their way and didn’t regret killing chrissy (which man i could talk about some other time). imagine if shawn levy (i know that it’s not the cast but still not the creators) hadn’t said that he would leave the show if steve died, would they actually kill off steve?

Well since you’re anonymous I’m playing Russian Roulette on if you’ll agree or get mad but oh well I’ve had a few glasses of wine (don’t judge me I have leftovers from thanksgiving ok lol) & I love talking about my opinions on TV shows! Unpopular Stranger Things opinion below! Warning for pettiness :)

Billy Hargrove WAS an asshole BUT he was forced into a horrifying situation he couldn’t control or understand & he’s also tragic & misunderstood. He's also an abuse victim & a child so like I GET that he's portrayed by a hot adult but still, let's engage with the story besties, he is sympathetic & tragic plz.

Jason Carver too. Sorry not sorry but if you consider the show from his POV for like two seconds he’s actually very tragic & that’s intentional cause the writers are smart.

Villains can be complex & sympathetic & that’s not just ok but GOOD.

Eddie Munson & Chrissy Cunningham’s deaths were heartbreakingly tragic but narratively necessary & excellent writing. It hurts but I wouldn’t change anything. Things that hurt aren’t bad writing & characters CANT deserve better because they’re not real & exist to serve a narrative purpose.

Annnd now for the REALLY unpopular stuff (uh oh shipping opinions)

Mike & Eleven have gone from romantic to uncomfortable & their continued relationship seems inevitable but I don’t have to like it. It’s only hindering both their development. Mike would be best developed recognizing his feelings for Will but having them rejected because Will has found someone who actually reciprocates & he’s happy (& that’s also what I want to see for Will.)

Steve & Nancy are / should be endgame. They have both grown & changed while apart & come back with a stronger than ever friendship. I’ve talked endlessly about that though so that shouldn’t be a surprise / I have other posts that go more in depth on them. I think Jonathan’s arc should be about family & learning to balance self care & his protection of family.

I like Robin/Nancy & Eddie/Steve just fine but they are literally fanon crack ships fed by the writers for fun & the intensity over them needs to chill. They’re not queer baiting. Despite enjoying the dynamics themselves I’ve had to blacklist them because fans annoy me with the over the top attitudes.

I love Stargyle as a crackship if we ignore everything canon. Like I think Argyle is the best options out of the guys in the show, however he's Jonathan's bestie sooo there is this slight problem where I can't fully embrace it for some reason. It's the same with R*nance bc why would Robin go for Steve's ex who hurt him. The same goes for Argyle why would he go for Steve, Jonathan's nemesis, plus he already gets shipped with Jonathan and I think they are kinda cute. It's so great Jonathan's opened up to someone outside of trauma/UD/end of the world scenarios.

My Steve ships are Steve x reader or OC (specifically my OC I'm writing for my rewrite of the show) I'm sorry if that's cringe but I'm free lmao Stargyle, Steve x Chrissy (bc hello cheerleader and player trope plus Chrissy is so sweet she would be the best girl out of the cast for Steve), Steve x Kali, Steve x Barb, Steddie and Stommy share the sixth place, Stonathan, Stancy and dead last H*rringr*ve.

My dream ending/endgame for Steve is for him to leave the show with Robin bc they are besties and start over in a new city where he doesn't have to prove himself to people bc usually with anyone who interacts with Steve he has to make up for his high-school years.

Steve x Chrissy is REALLLL she’s so nice and a good person she deserves a better bf than Jason (although tbh all he did in season 4 was like… out of grief of losing his girlfriend traumatically like damn if I saw someone levitate and get their limbs snapped in front of me I’d think there was a satanic cult too probably). Your mind is so wise also.

But omg I totally get what you mean. Ronance does not sit well with me like I don’t even think it makes sense for Robin to want to be friends with Nancy 😭 like where is the loyalty here babes

THANK YOU. Robin and Nancy’s incompatibility aside, Robin and Steve’s soulmatism is one of the unshakable dynamics in the show and Robin Buckley would just never. I read fanfics for most ships, and the story you linked is the first r//nance story I’ve seen that doesn’t have a Steve with zero issues just giggling while his best friend in the universe gets with the person who canonically hurt him the most/he’s still in love with. R//nance usually goes hand in hand with having to ignore how significant Nancy and Steve are to each other, which reminds me of the…

The Vickie erasure. The fanon of bi Nancy while fandom totally ignores Vickie is not surprising considering there’s so much automatic hatred of canon. Robin calls Vickie the girl of her dreams! I also hoped for more Vickie in season 4, but Vickie as the embodiment of Robin’s peace at home is perfect. Rosie! That Vickie is too much of a side-character to ship with Robin is ridiculous when I’ve accidentally seen so many fics including Gareth. For real, who the fuck is Gareth.

Nancy still needing to learn how to process her emotions is why I think any Stancy endgame would be a denouement situation. The execution of the matchmaker trope was unnecessary. Three whole characters weighing in on that relationship? One of which was a stranger? Why.

maybe it’s just because i love stobin so much, but it is literally one of the best and strongest dynamics in the show, and i just can’t fathom needing characters to be in a romantic relationship so badly, that people just cast aside how important robin and steve are to each other.

and yeah, i avoid all r//nance fics, like even if they’re just a background ship. because i know that that background ship will be a throwaway line, and still manage to destroy stobin. like, you can’t just have causal r//nance in the background because by it’s very nature, it would tear the characters apart.

in canon, steve still has feelings for nancy. now you can decide if that’s just because he’s clinging to this ideal of life that he isn’t ready to let go of, or because he actually is in love with her, but to disregard their relationship entirely is dumb. like, in their first s4 scene together, nancy spots steve’s car and just instantly calms. like, whether they’re romantic or platonic, steve and nancy are really important to each other.

i honestly just cannot see nancy being queer at all, but i know that’s just my personal opinion. but the fact that people will totally erase vickie, and then get annoyed at the duffers for having minimal gay characters, or for not making r//nance canon. like, there is a bi women right there! stop ignoring her! and yeah, i think the excuse that vickie is just a side character is such bullshit, because she is spoken about a lot, we see her in multiple scenes. she’s more important than gareth, but somehow he pops up everywhere? and a lot of people who hate vickie will then ship buckingham (which i have nothing against!) but it’s like, how are you gonna pretend chrissy has more personality then vickie?

yeah, i hate matchmaking, but the duffers seem incapable of writing a romance without using it. honestly, the reason why i hated murray so much is because of that. like, some random middle aged man got two teens drunk and told them to fuck in his house, and i’m supposed to think that’s the height of romance?! ew. and yeah, i can see robin talking to steve about nancy, because they obviously talk about their loves lives to each other. and dustin is incapable of not inserting himself into steve’s life, but eddie? what does he know about the situation? it’s just so weird.

also, i actually find stancy interesting, at least, i’ve always enjoyed watching their scenes more than nancy and jonathan, but i just don’t think that nancy will be able to get enough development in time for her to end the show in a healthy relationship. though, i do kinda want stancy to be endgame just because i know how much steve antis will hate it. and i think that’s funny.

but honestly, when it comes to endgames i just don’t care. what ships the duffers decide to end on mean nothing to me. i will read whatever fanfics i want when the show ends, and who’s gonna stop me. “oh it’s not canon.” don’t care, didn’t ask.

Stranger Things 4 Reax (not an essay format I don’t have the brain cells for that rn)

- MISSED THIS SHOW SO MUCH. I was a JUNIOR in HIGH SCHOOL when the last season premiered it’s crazy to think I’m finishing up freshman year of college

- the writing, cinematography, acting, and overall production is SO GOOD. This is the type of quality shows we deserve and I feel so blessed that I’ve been a fan since the first season

- character developments and storylines were done so well. I liked how the arcs were divided into factions and it reminded me so much of Avengers Infinity War when everyone had their own missions (home-base Hawkins for Vol II, I am so ready for you)

- the way everything wove together in the end was absolutely phenomenal. Everything we’ve found out since Season 1 finally made sense and I am thrilled to see how the last two episodes of the show will wrap things up

- gonna transition to more of the non-important but maybe important things now starting with... I’m curious to know what Will’s painting is and am terrified that he might die given how it fits the trope of gift-giving after someone dies

- Jonathan and Nancy/Jancy is the only couple in the show I actually care about (okay, maybe Joyce and Hopper/Jopper too but I’m pretty sure they’re endgame) so I’m really hoping they see each other soon. It’s so obvious Nancy’s feeling a little bit lonely with Jonathan gone. They’re just really perfect for each other

- okay but speaking of... I find it hilarious that there are Stancy hints. I don’t think it’ll be too deep but closure on Nancy’s side could finally be given. I don’t like everyone else shipping them but we can pretty much say that they need to have a formal clearing of air after their break-up because... It just ended in a snap

- I like how Lucas isn’t just a “side main character” now. Like don’t get me wrong, he has purpose and agency, but he didn’t really have anything super interesting going on his life aside from having a sassy sister before. Now he has his own struggles that we see and I love that

- pretty surprised that Chrissy’s boyfriend isn’t as asshole as I thought he was (LMAO)? Like okay, I don’t like how irrational he is being over hunting Eddie but he’s just a genuine and confused teenager who lost someone he loved. He doesn’t know the situation and I feel sorry for him too

- speaking of Eddie, WHAT A GREAT ADDITION. Right off the bat, he was interesting. He has agency. He fits perfectly. I would really like to see him interact with Jonathan when he finally comes back to Hawkins (they look like they could vibe). JUSTICE FOR EDDIE PLEASE!!

- also since I mentioned Jonathan on my last point, we gotta give it to his buddy Argyle! I didn’t know if he was fitting for the story at first, but I found him so entertaining it worked. I bet him with the whole Hawkins teens squad would be really funny to watch because it’d be so unhinged (ESPECIALLY HIM AND ROBIN THE ENTERTAINMENT PLS)

- oh side note, for some reason I thought there was gonna be a Jonathan-Nancy-Steve parallel with Eddie-Chrissy-Jason (that forest scene was cute don’t @ me)

- so far these are what i have in mind. Will share more if I think of some. I’M SO EXCITED FOR VOLUME II

jw what your feelings are on stancy? i know a lot of hellcheer fic often has background jancy in it, but i feel like steve’s steadfast devotion and disbelieving awe at how amazing nancy is works better as a parallel to eddie’s feelings for chrissy… anyway i loooove your stuff!!!

this one is sooooo hard bc like— I LOVED jancy when it happened, I thought their chemistry was insane. but i find stancy super compelling as well!! frankly i have felt for some time now that the perfect configuration would be for them to all date each other.

obviously this will never happen in the duffer AU but if you're to imagine an endgame for them in the background of any of my fics, you may picture a scenario in which jonathan and nancy both work, probably in journalism, and steve stays home with their children and gets seriously good at like, souffles and risotto and homemade bread, all kinds of fun stuff.

steve never feels like he HAS to go to college or have a career to be fulfilled, nancy has the career she's always dreamed of and a lovely family, and jonathan— who had such a terrible father (steves parents seem kinda absent too, but lonnie, ooof)— jonathan has two people that love him very dearly and several children that have not just one but TWO loving, caring fathers.

the wheelers are very confused by the entire situation (or karen is— ted doesn't really give a shit), the hopper/byers household is a bit confused/concerned at first but comes around real fast, and idk about steve's parents they've probably fucked off to europe or something.

extra note: honestly im just kind of a whore for nancy like i love her and i ship her with everyone. including robin tbh. she deserves to have 3 lovers imho.

Stranger Things 4 Analysis and Theory

I don’t know if anyone else has done posts on this stuff yet (it’s really likely, but i’d not want to take the credit if i’m not the only one who’s thought of this)

I know @kaypeace21 has made tons of posts on the s4 movies from Video Store Friday, and many others have theories and analyses, but back in July I took it upon myself to research more into the very last few scenes of s3. Specifically the three months later time stamp, where Steve and Robin are in search for a new job.

My main focus was the four movies that they mentioned for Keith at the counter. “Animal House”, “The Hidden Fortress”, “Children Of Paradise”, and “The Apartment”.

(reminder that if you read this, it could be spoilers for the final cut of the actual show if i end up being correct about some of this, so read at your own risk)

My first theory, which I’ve already discussed in a separate reblog, is about The Hellfire Club. But i’ll say it here too.

Basically,

(sorry for the sucky quality)

Animal House is about two awkward freshmen going into college and joining a fraternity of rejects. It matches Mike, Dustin and the Hellfire Club perfectly! Personally, my lowkey theory is that they’re going to have to go though an entirety of initiation activities (possibly drugs too, if what we’ve heard is correct) and Lucas and Max will be in their own storylines up until the supernatural threat brings them back together again. This could be wayy off, but still its my idea.

As for Max and Lucas...

I’m not sure about the entirety of the plot of this movie, but the last line sounds a lot like something that would happen between Lumax. Lucas is a basketball jock now, I think that’s crystal clear now seeing from the Pep Rally poster, and how he’s always been the one in the group to be able to mask his nerdy side. For Dustin and Mike, I know it’s much harder for them. Anyways, Max, I’m pretty positive by now, is going to be extremely distant and defensive from everyone just like she was in the beginning of s2, since she just had a big change happening in her life. It’s the same now, except with the grief and loss of Billy. My guess, from the hints of this movie and other stuff, is that Lucas is going to come face to face with his reputation as a popular kid, and his love for Max. Like the summary says, he must decide between the advancement of his career or the girl that he loves. Real hard hitting stuff.

Onto the next one. MIKE WHEELER. (or will byers)

I watched an analysis video on this movie, because I haven’t seen it yet, but again the very last line is what I’d like to focus on.

My. Jaw. Dropped.

I’ve read many analyses of Mike Wheeler being gay (courtesy of @kaypeace21 @hawkinsschoolcounselor and MANY others), but I dunno, I was always just so skeptical no matter how much it made sense. But when I saw this WHAT THE HELL?!?’);/&? It’s stupid of me to not have believed it sooner, but I hope this is the movie that foreshadows Mike’s storyline this season. I’m assuming Mike will have to “prove his expertise in battle”, or perhaps prove he can go through with all of the initiation shit for The Hellfire Club, while hiding his growing revelation that he might be gay/bisexual.

BUT a possibly more likely scenario would be that this movie connects with Will Byers’ storyline this season instead. Perhaps the hardships of a new school and a new town has Will shaken up, and he also has his sexuality awakening that he has to hide from new people. I say that it’s more likely for him, because Will has always been more heavily queer-coded (not exactly heavier, but just extremely much more apparent and obvious opposed to Mikes queercoded subtext that we really had to dig for).

I also didn’t mention this in my reblog from earlier, but I want to address my opinions on the apparent cheerleader that meets Mike and befriends one another. One of my friends on twitter said Chrissy (her name, or so we think lmao) might be a key component to Mike being able to discover and come to terms with his sexuality. But then again, a different friend of mine thinks that the amount of content were getting is oddly suspicious, and that the Duffers are feeding us all the wrong information to lead us to all the wrong conclusions. But, at this point, why not both. At the moment, everyone thinks that Chrissy is Mikes new love interest, but what if she really isn’t, and they’re pulling a Robin on us (i call it a robin because it was technically straight-baiting in s3 LMFAO). I’m not saying that she might be a lesbian (although 👀 it says on her character info that she’s 18 (robins got some game to work with now ahaha)) but it could be a straight-bait up until she helps Mike realize his sexuality (i would have said realizes his love for Will😍😍 but recently ive been trying not to input byler into everything i fucking say, so theres how that’s going). Anyways. Last movie!

Now, I’m currently not super concrete on this one to be completely honest. I have a few in mind...

Okay, so don’t attack me, but this could possibly be a mileven storyline. It sort of fits. They have an undeniable connection, but “their fortunes shift considerably and they’re pushed apart” aka the misfortune of the mindflayer and hawkins not being safe for them leads them to moving away and literally being pushed apart. I don’t know about the pursuing other relationships, but we still have no idea what’s going on with El Hopper tbh, i havent a single clue what’s going to be happening with her storyline atm. But either way, that could be it.

ORRRR the MUCH more likely scenario, Jancy :)

Bloggers on here have already predicted that they wouldn’t be endgame, and I was only slightly skeptical because although their relationship was built on shared trauma, a very unstable foundation to have for a ship tbh, i still hung onto the fact that they cared for eachother a lot :,( But the entirety of their season 3 bickering and this summary kind of sealed the deal.

Just like Mike and El, Nancy and Jonathan have been pushed apart aswell. It was already seen in season three that they’d be better of leading separate lives, aka Jonathan was doing fine at the internship, whereas Nancy could have been somewhere better for herself. I doubt they broke up at the end of season 3, but there’s bound to be new relationships for them seperately. It sucks bc I love Jancy, but s3 showed how badly they snap at one another when there isn’t a life threatening event at hand. Jopper on the other hand, I thought their bickering was adorable, but i’m getting off track, sorry lmfaoo.

Once again, I probably am not the first to talk about these, but jsyk if you steal this from me specifically i will track you down and end you. I’ve been speculating about these things since April and July, which is pretty weak tbh, but that was when i had nothing better to do LMFAO. i hope i got at least something right, but i haven’t seen many of the video store friday’s movies, which sucks bc those could really help. But whatever.
