“one cannot speak truth to power if power has no use for truth. for all their talk of liberty and virtue, the patriots are as zealous and intolerant as the enemy they seek to defeat.”
Which Turn characters would be invited to my dinner party?
This is a two parter bc of the 10 image limit. Second part won't be as long. :)
To be honest, there is more characters I like than dislike. So, I'll just go down the list of characters and talk about why or why not I would have them at my dinner party. I'll even throw in a maybe category.
I'd probably invite a lot more characters than I would not invite
(Hopefully it's nothing like the Thanksgiving dinner at Samuel Townsends.. )
First, who would I not invite?
I)
Sorry, Simcoe. Unfortunately you didn't make the cut. Not a big fan of having a guest stabbed at dinner.
II)
Robert Rogers is an instant no. Love the character, but do not want him at my table. He'd probably just start arguing with André (spoiler alert André makes the dinner list) also, he pulled a gun out and threatened everyone at the Townsend Thanksgiving.. so no thanks!
III)
Another easy one. Benedict, stay far away from my house. Your wife can come though. Don't need his anger issues ruining my vibe.
III)
Richard was never considered!! Shitty father and was awful towards Anna. Maybe he needs some family therapy with Abe rather than a dinner. Honestly he probably wouldn't believe in therapy. Or mental health.
Who would I MAYBE invite?
I)
Philomena is a maybe. Might be awkward with Peggy there.. and André who kept trying to make her look like Peggy. Might spare her all of that drama. She probably wouldn't even go.
II)
Abe is a definite maybe. He's always caught up in some shite. Maybe he'd be ok because Simcoe, Abe's dad, and Rogers aren't invited. He'd probably steal some food to give to Rogers in his cellar.
Now who would I invite?
Major Hewlett obviously. My tumblr user gives it away but he is obviously my favorite character. He won't have to deal with Simcoe. Good for him. He deserves better.
II)
To me, André is turns sexy man. (Sorry, Ben fans) and he is my second favorite male character. I don't care that he died. He is not dead for my party. He can be with Peggy :,).
III)
Peggy Shippen is a girlboss. She is the moment. She is invited. I love her. She can sit next to André if she wants.
I blame @curufiin for enabling this (affectionate).
Right, anyway, the 18th century (and history in general) is queerer and less white than everyone thinks. Here’s a bunch of Turn: Washington’s Spies pride icons I made, based off personal headcanons, research and my own reading of these individuals.
Day 1 (Nov. 23rd): TURNSGIVING!!!! Tell us how you spend your Thanksgiving (thanksgiving recipes/family traditions/tomfoolery) or how a character in the show might celebrate Thanksgiving!
First of all, happy Thanksgiving and TURNsgiving! This is my first time participating in this event. I became a YUGE Turn fan literally January 1st of this year, and when I got DEEP in the Ben Tallmadge tag (LOL) I saw Turnsgiving 2022 and was like damnnn, just missed it! So I've been looking forward to this for a while :) Anyways, today's prompt is so cute/easy so let me dive into how I normally spend Thanksgiving!
Growing up, it was always just my parents and I on Thanksgiving (I'm an only child). Although it was just the three of us, it was still a lot of fun and we always had a lot of food on the table. Turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, the whole thing. Now that I'm older and in a relationship, I now get to celebrate two Thanksgivings: one with my boyfriend's family and one with my parents, so double the fun :) We've recently done brunch with his family and then dinner with my parents, and that's exactly what we did today. It's always joyous and warm and I love seeing everyone. I even said today we always get so lucky with having the BEST weather on Thanksgiving (so far!) It's always been a crisp, bright autumn day.
Now... how would I think a character in the show might celebrate Thanksgiving? I thought I might do Ben for this one bc I love him but to switch things up I think I want to focus on my favorite menace, Robert Rogers LOL. I feel like Rogers would just sit in the darkest corner of a dingy bar, beer in one hand and turkey leg in another, grumbling about something and barely enjoying his day, until he's finally had one too many and begins heckling people in the bar. What a guy lol.
All I have to say is, God damn it! English, French, and all colonizers (extremely derogatory).

Also, George Washington and Robert Rogers are here to!
I’m convinced you can’t research the American revolution without researching the seven years war first.
Just this once, in this sole instance, historical! Washington had a very small semblance of moral high ground, he was an aid to camp on the English side, but he didn’t want war, he did everything in his power to prevent the war. His superiors and the French still blamed him.
I’m still dragging all colonial powers equally, additionally, Jefferson and Washington aren’t safe from my disdain.
👏 Tallmadge 👏 only 👏 gets 👏 a 👏pass 👏 because 👏 by 👏 the 👏 regency 👏 era 👏he 👏 hated 👏 slavery and 👏 we 👏 fully 👏would’ve 👏lost 👏 the 👏 revolution 👏 were 👏 it 👏 not 👏for 👏 the 👏 culper 👏 ring 👏 and 👏French 👏 backing. 👏
Tallmadge & slavery: not an exception, but in hindsight, better than most. (borrowed from @mollafer)
Above average, comparatively. Re: Benjamin Tallmadge the historical figure. (An opinion from @mollafer I generally agree with, and, but, cultural genocide and subjugation are still… well that).
Slavery is still an atrocity and makes people chattel and enforces white supremacy, it was designed as such.
American revolution, an ever growing master list of reading, compiled by me (I’m willing to crowd source should anyone have recommendations!).
New Orleans: Whitney plantation. Slavery from the black experience.

i can’t remember if the prompt was CURSED dinner party or just dinner party, but i’m doing a cursed one lol. i think that the absolute worst table with the worst seating arrangements would be (with the first and last people seated next to each other around a round table):
simcoe, robert rogers, andre, benedict arnold, richard woodhull, abe
simcoe and rogers would be trying to kill each other bc simcoe thinks rogers is culper and rogers is mad that simcoe took over his rangers and shot his eye out
rogers would be weirdly threatening andre and just generally being a creep
andre and arnold would be pointedly ignoring each other but the mere presence of the other would put them both in a HORRIBLE mood
arnold and richard would be having a really annoying debate about The Law TM where somehow both of their takes are god awful
richard would be lecturing abe and high key implying that he’s a spy and abe would be doing a horrible job of denying it
and abe and simcoe would both be trying to kill each other
TUЯN: Washington's Spies customs are back! I hope to add a few more characters, but for now: Benjamin Tallmadge; Alexander Hamilton; Anna Strong; the Marquis de Lafayette; Continental Benedict Arnold; and Robert Rogers
