i've seen this character playlist challenge post resurfacing lately so i'd like to expand on the idea and create a more fully-fledged, more difficult challenge that'll hopefully expand your music horizons beyond the usual tumblrcore/fandom music taste
the challenge
create a character playlist of at least twenty (20+) songs without using the artists and genres listed below* in under an hour
("below" meaning below the readmore)
the restrictions
no artist can appear in the playlist twice
you must have at least three (3+) distinct genres in your playlist
you must include at least three (3+) artists with less than 100,000 listeners on spotify
you must include at least three (3+) songs that are primarily in a language other than english
you must include at least one (1+) hip hop/rap song from a non-white person (be creative with this! rap has a diverse range of sounds from doja cat to dr. dre to death grips)
you must include at least one (1+) song thats from a reasonably obscure and/or underground genre (this does not count to your 3+ distinct genres requirement)
some of these restrictions can be met simultaneously (e.g. a spanish rap song fulfills both the non-english language requirement and the hiphop/rap requirement)
feel free to reblog with your playlist in either the tags or the caption! i'd love to see what people come up with :)
restricted artists/genres are below the readmore

Bleachers at Boston Calling 5/28/23
Bleachers had a perfect late afternoon slot on the last day of Boston Calling. I have somehow not ever seen them live (though have seen Jack Antonoff in his previous incarnations of Steel Train and .fun) so I was pretty excited to catch them.
Bleachers
Boston Calling
Harvard Athletic Complex
5/28/23
Wake Me
How Dare You Want More
I Miss Those Days
Everybody Lost Somebody
Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)
(Phil Collins cover)
Chinatown
Rollercoaster
You're Still a Mystery
I Wanna Get Better
Don't Take the Money
Stop Making This Hurt
I've been a huge fan of Bleachers from the get go since I love Jack Antonoff. Was expecting some dancy fun along with lots of Jack commentary and that's what I got. Some highlights: Jack bringing out his dad, Ricky, for "How Dare You Want More" and the delightful Phil Collins cover (really just a verse and chorus) with with Joy Oladokun. This crowd knew all the songs so it was fun to be in the mix with everyone screaming the lyrics. The best of festival set experiences!

Taylor's Gayest moments
1. And I snuck in through the garden gate every night that summer just to seal my fate
Tumblr media
2. She performed the closeted gay anthem that is Let It Go
3. Waking up next to a naked woman dressed and a man in a song all about how if she was a man everything she did would be considered normal/accepted
4. The concept of "Breakable heaven" sounding a lot like "glass closeting"
5. All her varied pride/bi/pan flag moments
Tumblr media
6. The pride speech on the rep tour
7. Saying gay pride is part of what makes her, her
8. Karlie having her own room in Taylor's house but Taylor not mentioning if any of her other friends have the same treatment
9. How the vouge photoshoot looks like Ellen's wedding shoot
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. How she only ever genders one person in How You Get The Girl
11. Her performances with openly queer artists, Ricky Martin, Hayley kiyoko, Troye Sivan, St Vincent, and Tegan and Sara
12. Being a unicorn/Pegasus while she was on Elvis Duran a radio shows who's host is openly gay
13. Speaking of kissgate they were literally dancing/swaying with their hands tied with bonus of E News shipping it
Tumblr media
14. All the similarities between her and Evelyn Hugo and the author even saying she wouldn't mind Taylor playing her
15. The timeline not really allowing Forever And Always to be about Joe because they broke up in October and Fearless came out the next month meaning the album was probably already finished finalized and maybe even sitting in various stock rooms around the world waiting to be released
16. "I don't want you like a best friend" only making sense if it's gay because straight people just kinda inherently know when they like each other where as gay girls are never sure if you like them or if you're just being nice
17. The basketball "date"
Tumblr media
18. Dedicating a song on tour every night to a known to be out person
19. Putting herself in the middle of the LGBTQ community for the whole You Need To Calm Down video to deal with the homophobes too
20. The narrative of the Ours music video not adding up with the song. Seriously who would disapprove of a relationship with someone in the army? The wives/girlfriends of army people are the strongest people ever
21. The infamous third polaroid we never got to see
Tumblr media
22. Riptide cover
23. "now I understand why they lost their minds and fought the wars"
24. DWOHT
25. "World's Okayest Brother" not really making sense unless he's okay with Taylor being gay (it could be a big inside joke) all credit for brining this to my attention goes to @urgirlmarialz
Tumblr media
26. Refer to my first point. Cruel Summer is about he whole summer when kissgate happened
27. The similarity between the lyrics "Bite your face to spite your nose" (Girls, the 1975) and And I cut off my nose just to spite my face then I hate my reflection for years and years". Kissgate happened at a 1975 concert while Girls was playing.
28. This whole video
youtube
29. That time Jack Antonoff accidentally outed Taylor by saying "I like women and particularly gay women" and covered it by quickly stumbling to say that he works a lot with Tegan and Sara but nobody listened
30. All these gifs
31. "You and me would be a big conversation" why would Taylor and a guy ever be a big conversation in any other way than the normal "be careful shell write a song about you"? Now Taylor and a girl that would be a big conversation in general
32. The beginning of Only The Young being exactly how lgbtq people felt on election night
33. "So I guess all the rumours are true" doesn't that sound weird to anyone else? It sounds like Taylor is accepting they're true but not in a happy way more in a sarcastic way
34. "Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you've ever seen, oh"
Tumblr media
35. The whole Haylor relationship being so clearly PR considering she was able to get away with sneaking about new York for almost 2 years a short time later. Always remember Niall Horan's quote about how paps only really ever come if you call them.
36. That one time she sampled a cautious clay some in London Boy and the original played during a lesbian sex scene in Booksmart
37. Saying Victoria secrets models are and actual fantasy
38. "you're the west village" isn't about joe because he can't simultaneously be he London Boy but also represent The West Village which is in New York
39. That one time she basically serenading Karlie with Dress (all credit for the video goes to the person who posted it)

My Selections for GRAMMYS 2020
Continuing what I started last year here’s my reaction to the GRAMMY Nominations with my selections for who I believe should win, and also who I would have picked for each category.
Let me first lay out the ground rules: - I will be following the time frame for eligibility which is October 1st 2018 to September 30th 2019. - I will be ignoring categories for genres I don’t listen to enough. Metal, Country, Classical, Jazz, will be left off. - I am ignoring that the Performance categories are a mixture of recordings and live performances and just treating them as genre specific “Records of the year” awards. The one’s with “Song” in the title are geared more towards the song writing. - I will first make my selection of the available options. Bold and underlines will be my top selection with underlined not bold as my runner up. - I will then make my own selections for each category and who I think should win out of that. - My selection is not just a list of my favorite albums. My selections will be a balancing act taking in account artistic accomplishments, Impact both culturally and popularity as well as what I personally think is good. - I made a few liberties with some of my selections, mostly from the rules for eligibility being vague in spots. - This list is just all my biased suggestions. I’m sure there will be some major differences in opinions with anybody who reads this. - Feel free to shoot me a message to discuss more with me anything you wish to!

Congrats To The Grammys For Finally Getting Their Rock & Metal Category Figured Out
Tumblr media
Following a pretty up-and-down rollercoaster ride the past few years, the Recording Academy has seemingly gotten their stuff together when it comes to their rock and metal categories.
After dealing with an embarrassing year last year where Avenged Sevenfold publically called out the prestigious institution for their lack of support to the metal community, apparently, someone at the Academy was paying attention as this year’s nominees might be one of their best in quite some time.
For Best Metal Performance, the Grammys see a lot of new faces including Between The Buried And Me, Deafheaven, High On Fire and Trivium as well as scene staples Underoath (Underoath were previously nominated back in 2006 for Best Short Form Music Video).
As for Best Rock Performance, previous nominees like Arctic Monkeys, Cris Cornell (rest in peace) and Halestorm are accompanied by the likes of Greta Van Fleet and, surprisingly and well-deserved, FEVER 333.
Another fantastic nomination comes in the Best Rock Song category. Sandwiched between well-known household names like Ghost, Twenty One Pilots, and St. Vincent is Bring Me The Horizon and, for the second time, Greta Van Fleet.
All in all, as much as we bash on award shows for their lack of support towards our hard rock and metal community, this year the Grammys got it right. Were there other artists that deserved a nomination? Of course there were. But considering how things have been in the past (Leonard Cohen Best Rock Performance 2018, Beyonce Best Rock Performance nominee 2017, Tenacious D Best Metal Performance 2015, etc.), we’ll take it.
To check out the full list of nominees to prepare you for the 61st annual Grammy Awards which will take place on Sunday, February 10th, be sure to look below.
Best Rock Performance

Recording Academy Announces Nominees For The 62nd Annual GRAMMY Awards
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Special Grammy Moments. Courtesy of the  Recording Academy®.
SANTA MONICA, CALIF. (NOV. 20, 2019)—Recording Academy® President/CEO President/CEO Deborah Dugan alongside Academy Chair of the Board of Trustees and renowned record producer Harvey Mason Jr., as well as GRAMMY Awards® host Alicia Keys and past two-time Grammy® nominee Bebe Rexha, today revealed nominees for the 62nd GRAMMY Awards in select categories. This year's nominees reflect a melting pot of artistic innovation that defined the year in music, showcasing the unparalleled craftsmanship of established artists and the industry-shifting impact of rising music creators. Leading nominees Lizzo (8), Billie Eilish (6) and Lil Nas X (6) not only topped the charts but ignited a cultural conversation around their genre-bending hits. As the only peer-selected music award, the GRAMMY Awards are voted on by the Recording Academy's membership body of music makers, who represent all genres and creative disciplines, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, mixers and engineers.
"I am in complete awe of the inspiring nominees who have poured their hearts and souls into their craft, and in turn, have provided fans worldwide a year of music that changed us, stirred our emotions and inspired us to do more," said Dugan. "Today's announcement reflects a new era for the Recording Academy—an army of engaged members that welcomes diversity, embraces creativity and champions young musicians on the rise. It's shaping up to be a year of firsts, and I can promise that the 62nd GRAMMY Awards will pack the same punch as this year's nominees. I am proud to march forward alongside our members and nominated artists."
GRAMMY® winner Tasha Cobbs Leonard earns her fourth nomination for her worship anthem, “This Is A Move (Live),” in the Best Gospel Performance/Song Category. The single, released earlier this year, was co-written by Cobbs Leonard, along with Brandon Lake, Tony Brown and Nate Moore.
Emerging gospel soul singer Gene Moore also earns his first GRAMMY® nod for his sophomore album, Tunnel Vision, which was released in August of this year. The project’s lead single, “Won’t Be Moved,” (co-written by BJ the Chicago Kid and Cedric “Ced” Smith) continues to climb the radio charts, with Moore recently wrapping his participation on two legs of India.Arie’s Worthy Tour and labelmate Brian Courtney Wilson’s Just B(e) Tour.
Breakout New Orleans-based band Tank and The Bangas are nominated for “Best New Artist.” Of the nomination the band says, “This moment is for every open mic, garage band and underground movement that ever took place. We’re reminded by this nomination that anything is possible. Tank and The Bangas are possible.”
Queen of country-soul Yola received four nominations including Best New Artist and three nominations in the Roots category including Best American Roots Song, Best American Roots Performance (for “Faraway Look”) and Best Americana Album for her debut Dan Auerbach-produced album, Walk Through Fire. Auerbach also received a nomination for for Producer Of The Year for his work on albums including Walk Through Fire.
Yola stated, “To be nominated for four awards in the 10th month of my debut year is beyond a dream come true. Thank you to my incredible team and everyone who has supported and believed in me along the way. Great to see such incredible talent nominated alongside me.”
This year's nominees were selected from more than 20,000 submissions across 84 categories, and reflect the wide range of artistic innovation that defined the year in music (Oct. 1, 2018–Aug. 31, 2019). The final round of GRAMMY voting is Dec. 9, 2019–Jan. 3, 2020. The Recording Academy will present the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, live from Los Angeles' STAPLES Center and broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 8:00–11:30 p.m. ET/5:00–8:30 p.m. PT.

Rozdano Grammy - Kacey Musgraves, Lady Gaga, Brandi Carlile, Michelle Obama, Ricky Martin, Janelle Monae ...
Tumblr media
Amerykańska Akademia Fonograficzna przyznała w niedzielę po raz 61. muzyczne nagrody Grammy. Wśrod wielkich wygranych znaleźli się raper i aktor Donald Glover, nagrywający jako Childish Gambino, Kacey Musgraves i Dua Lipa.
W kategorii "Najlepszy album roku" nagrodzono piosenkarkę country i autorkę piosenek Kacey Musgraves za "Golden Hour". Musgraves do domu wróciła z czterema nagrodami.
W obu przypadkach za "This is America".
Wyróżnienie za "Najlepszy debiut" otrzymała Brytyjka kosowsko-albanskiego pochodzenia Dua Lipa. Wokalistka, która karierę w show biznesie zaczynała jako modelka znana jest m.in. z singla "New Rules". - Jestem dowodem na to, że możesz zrobić wszystko, na co się zdecydujesz – powiedziała, odbierając statuetkę.
Dwie ujawnione piosenkarki Lady Gaga i Brandi Carlile, także zdobyły statuetki. Sama Brandi Carlile, aż trzy statuetki - w kategorii "Najlepszy Album z Gatunku Amerykańskiego" za piosenkę "By The Way, I Forgive You", i za utwór "The Joke". Dodatkowo statuetka w kategorii Najlepszy Utwór dotyczące Amerykańskich Korzeniach.
Lady Gaga, także dostała trzy statuetki - miedzy innymi za "Shallow" w kategoriach Najlepszy Duet i Najlepszy Utwór Nagrany Dla Medium Wizualnego, za "Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Goin'?)" w kategorii Najlepsze Solowe.
- Muzyka zawsze pomagała mi opowiadać historię, muzyka pomaga nam dzielić ze sobą naszą godność i smutki, nasze nadzieje i radości - powiedziała.
W komentarzach czytamy, że najważniejsza muzyczna noc w kalendarzu muzycznym, zdominowała została przez kobiety. Wśród gwiazd występujących na scenie, to one przykuwały największą uwagę. Owacyjnie przyjęte zostały występy: Diany Ross, Lady Gagi, Jennifer Lopez, Dolly Parton, Janelle Monae, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus oraz Camili Cabello - TVN24.
