heyo what's your favourite moment in HMs prologue? asking for no reason 👀👀👀

Can I have two favorite scenes? Because I'd say I have two.

One is that moment wherein Richard just stares at the top of Bale's office building, thinking of his wife and daughter, perhaps his sister as well. Anyway, there's this specific conversation there between Richard and the Ripper:

"I just didn't expect… I didn't expect becoming a father would be this hard. It's not my kid, really, she's the best thing that ever happened to me. But every time I come home…" he trails off as he looks down the ground, his foot shifting on it. "Every time I come home, I just wonder… What if it's the last day I ever see those smiles? You know how I grew up with my sister, $!{name}. You know that we're…"

"It's okay."

His eyes widen as he turns towards you.

"It's not like I'll be alone if you choose to walk away." You chuckle. "You weren't even supposed to be with us back then, remember?"

The second one's where Richard and the Ripper talk in one of the prologue's endings.

"I'll stay," you utter as you move to the nearby railing. The ground you're standing on overlooks half of the city, you realize, and the breeze of air tugs at your clothes harshly as the dawn starts to break above. "I'll stay until this is all over."

Even if you want to leave, there's still so much for you to do here. So much to handle.

So much to end.

"You're still a good ${man}, $!{name}. And you have a good life. Don't let this city change that. Don't let this city change what you stand for." He moves closer, looking at you with an unflinching gaze. "No matter what."

You take a slow, deep breath, staring at the man in front of you with a resolute gaze. The man you might not see for a long while, whose family you cannot fail. And you will not. So you part your lips, and let the words leave them.

"No matter what."

Both scenes capture Richard's personality so clearly, and I honestly love the interactions between the two. Every time I think of the future chapters, I go back to these, thinking of how important they would be when the Ripper finally has to make some of the toughest decisions in the story.
