Got my assignment for the @remnants-of-rwby-exchange . I'm slightly apprehensive about writing the main character being requested, but I REALLY like a few of the prompts the person asked for.

Hi there! It's good to hear from you :>

And boy you're asking me something here- I actually have *checks notes* 5 grimm oz au's. But for now I'll tell you the general gist of my main one, of which I also put down a prompt or two:

And tbh, there isn't all that much to it. Most things play out like they do in canon. 

Oz is still headmaster of Beacon, and a powerful ally to humanity. Although he has had his moments in time where he was not.*

Salem and his curse are switched. Which means that Oz is immortal, and Salem reincarnates (she eventually reincarnates in Cinder).

Oz sought out the same possible solution of ending his curse that Salem did, resulting in him being Grimm.

“But why is it Ozpin and not Ozma” you ask? Well, I like Ozpin more, so there you have it lol-

Salem and Oz’s motives remain the same. Oz needs to reunite the world while Salem only seeks to end it. 

Like I said earlier, instead of Oz, Salem reincarnates. She, unlike Oz creating the maidens, creates the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Who these Four Horsemen are at this point though, I haven't decided yet.

* Oz, in his long time on remnant, has tried many different methods to achieve his goal. Some of which more violent and/or extreme than the other, definitely deserving of the title of "villain". During his time on remnant, he has been the best and worst version of himself. Just as he's seen the world and humanity at its highest and lowest point. It would only make sense for his actions to reflect the current state of the world.

Oz took part in creating the huntsmen schools. He feels as though Beacon represents the best part of himself, and he would do everything in his power to preserve it.

As for clothing, he seems to be really fond of victorian gothic looks.

Hi! It is I, your rwby fanworks exchange gifter😁✨ I think I have some nice ideas to work out, but I need a clearer picture for some of them;

What would Oz, Qrow, Qorbyn and Olivia think of amusement parks? Do they all like rollercoasters? Would they drag the others along to different places/rides? And, who do you think would win in a pillow fight?

Hi!!!! :D

The family would love to go to amusement parks, although due to work (derogatory) it’s kinda hard to do that sometimes.

But when they are able to go, they enjoy it! :D

Here’s a small rundown for the amusement park:

- Ozpin likes the calmer things, and prefers to check out the small shops and stuff they’ve got at the amusement park. Doesn’t mean he isn’t okay with going on the rides with the family though (he just has to be careful that his glasses don’t come flying off)

- Qrow loves everything adrenaline inducing haha. Always has to have Oz or one of the kids with him otherwise he will accidentally make himself sick oops. He’s less “being dragged on the ride” and more “being dragged off the ride”

- Olivia is fine with just about everything, pretty chill with it all. Loves the water park if they have one though. She takes every ride like a champ

- Qorbyn loves ONLY the water park and small shops, as a child she would genuinely cry over having to go on a rollercoaster because they freaked her out so much (not me projecting, no siree… 👀), when she’s older it… doesn’t get better, she still hates them and will sometimes cry over having to go on one.

As for a pillow fight…

- Olivia and Qrow are trying to just straight up murder each other. They’re pretty evenly matched so each one could win

- Qorbyn and Oz will pick sides occasionally, sometimes they’ll throw pillows at Qrow or Olivia and both will get offended (e.g. “you would hit your own husband/pops???” “How could you do that to your own daughter/sister??!!”)

- it’s the quiet ones you have to worry abt because those two rarely will ever go against each other (instead they’re plotting >:3c)

Sign Up Guidelines

The main method of communication for this project will be through email. This is how you will receive your assignment information with your recipient’s preferences, squicks and triggers, and favorites. If you have any concerns, feel free to reach out either via DMs, reblogs, or asks.

When signing up…

Please feel free to be as specific or as general as possible with your answers! For instance, if you wish to prioritize characters and ships, feel free to number them (i.e. “1. Ruby 2. Weiss” or “1. Ruby/Weiss 2. Yang/Blake”), but it is not a requirement. The goal is to give your giftee enough information to create something you will enjoy, while leaving some room for them to be creative and put their own spin on it!

When coming up with prompts…

Try your best to provide a variety! You can stick with just a setting, such as “Beacon Days” or “Atlas Ball,” you can provide a scene set up, such as “Yang and Ruby having sister bonding time” or “Team STRQ getting into shenanigans,” or you can even provide an AU idea, such as “Role Swap AU” or “Nothing Bad Ever Happened AU.” You can even provide your own AU if you’d like! If you decide to do that, try to provide at least one or two non-AU options, just in case.

When creating…

The focus of your fic must be at least one character or ship from the recipient’s list! If they prioritized, try your best to use their number one as the focus!

Avoid all squicks and triggers, respect your recipient’s boundaries, and make sure you consider their favorite tags, categories, and tropes when creating your piece. Try to use at least one of their prompts as a jumping off point, too!

If you get stuck…

You can always always always reach out if you have any questions or just need some help brainstorming. You can DM, reply to the assignment email, or send an ask (especially if you wish to remain anonymous).

Try to keep your identity a secret!!!

But if you want to learn more about your recipient (for instance, if they used their own AU as a prompt and you need more information on it), feel free to send them an anonymous ask here on Tumblr or reach out to me! I’d be happy to send an anonymous message on your behalf.

Even if you don’t have questions, reach out and talk to your recipient (anonymously) as you work on their piece! Offer encouragement, ask them questions, and just spread general excitement and love for the show!

To the Remnants of RWBY Fanworks Exchange! A fandom event designed to celebrate the creativity and community of the RWBY fandom.

If you decide to participate, you will be asked to create a gift for your recipient that is based on their preferences, recorded in the sign up form! On the date of posting, you will also receive a gift that has been personalized for you from another creator in the community! Fan art and fanfiction are accepted :)

Important Dates

The sign up form will be open on March 16th and closed on April 6th. Assignments will be sent out on April 7th through April 9th. As soon as you get your assignment, you can start working on your gift, and everything will be posted on May 18th!

FAQs

What is a fanwork exchange?

Generally speaking, a fanwork exchange is a fandom event where every participant creates a gift for someone, and receives one from another creator!

What are the requirements for the gift?

Writers: Your gift must be a completed, stand alone story, all to be posted on May 18th. Multiple chapters are accepted, as long as they are all posted on the date. It must be 1,000 words, minimum, and not contain any triggers or squicks listed by your recipient. The goal is to use some of the preferences and favorites and prompt ideas provided by your recipient :)

Artists: Your gift must be a completed, fully rendered piece to be posted on May 18th. Comics and multi-part works are accepted, as long as it is all posted on the date. Just like writers, avoid triggers and squicks of your recipient and try to use their prompts and preferences as much as you can!

Remember, you don’t have to use every single prompt or pairing or character your recipient listed, but at least one of their characters or pairings has to be the focus of the work!

When is everything due?

Sign ups start on March 16th and end April 6th

Assignments will be sent out April 7th through April 9th

The drop-out deadline is May 11th

Gifts will be posted on May 18th

What if I have to drop out unexpectedly?

No worries! I know that life happens sometimes. We will try to have some creators sign up as pinch hitters to take over if someone has to drop out unexpectedly. If your gifter drops out, your gift may be delayed, but don’t worry! Everyone who signs up will receive a gift.

What’s a pinch hitter?

Simply put, a pinch hitter is a creator who agrees to take over an assignment in the case that someone drops out. You can sign up only as a pinch hitter (meaning you may not have to create anything, if no one drops out) or as a regular gifter and a pinch hitter. However, if you sign up as both and you are asked to pinch hit, you will have to make two gifts, so make sure you are prepared!

Can I still participate if I can’t commit to creating a gift for someone?

Yes! There are a couple ways to still participate. You can create a treat for the exchange, which is a general gift meant for no one in particular to be part of the collection. Reading, viewing, commenting, and reblogging are also wonderful ways to participate and support the creators in the exchange!

Posting Guidelines

The primary method of sharing works for the event will be through Tumblr.

When posting to Tumblr…

Tag your post with ‘remnants of rwby: fanworks exchange’ and make sure you tag your recipient! This will be the main way that they know their gift has been posted for them! Please take care to tag the exchange blog as well so that I can archive it here and add it to the master post of works for the event.

When posting to Ao3…

Feel free to tag it “Remnants of RWBY: Fanworks Exchange” and, if you wish, you can ask your giftee (anonymously) if they would like to have the work gifted to them through Ao3’s built in gifting feature. If you do decide to post on Ao3, please don’t forget to post the link here on Tumblr and tag your recipient and the exchange blog.

There will not be an official Ao3 collection for this event, but I will compile all the gifts into one master post that will be archived here on the blog.

Pinch Hitting Guidelines

In the event that a creator drops out, I will put out a call to find a pinch hitter. A pinch hitter is someone who agrees to pick up an assignment that another creator has dropped. First, I will offer the assignment to the pinch hit list. If no one can pick it up after 24 hours, I will post it to the blog.

If your giftee is the one who dropped out, then you have two options. You can choose to gift your work to them anyway or you can post your work “unclaimed” as part of the event, for no one in particular. In that case, you can feel free to be more creative and tailor it to yourself since it is no longer a specialized gift for a specific recipient.

Please DM the blog or send me an email at [email protected] if you wish to be added to the pinch hit list! You will have priority access to assignments should a pinch hitter be needed.

If I have an issue with my giftee, am I allowed to swap out?

Okay, so here is the switching policy:

As I warned, the pairings are not perfect. And I based the pairings on a running list (example: Person 1 makes for Person 2 who makes for Person 3 who makes for Person 4, etc) so switching has the potential to mess up multiple people.

Here is how it will be handled moving forward:

If you do not like your assignment, I will offer TWO new assignments for you. You will then pick ONE and I will reach out to their giftee to ask them if they are okay switching.

The new match up may be based on a myriad of other factors, including your recipients new giftee preferences rather than only yours. This means it may not be perfect for you.

If you both agree, the switch will go through. If they do not agree, you can decide to try the second assignment (where i will repeat the asking process) or keep your old assignment.

In the event both assignment switches are denied, you can choose to keep your original assignment or "drop out" and your original assignment will be put up for pinch hit.

If you drop out, you can 100% still create something for the event, tag the blog, and be included in the final collection, but your gift will not be for a specific person.

Please remember that you do not have to make something for all the ships/prompts/categories.

If your assignment says they like Ship 1 that you hate, but Ship 2 that you love then just ignore Ship 1.

If there are legitimate concerns I will work with you as best I can to move things around and find a better assignment for you. Feel free to email me with more details. Thank you!
