I reblogged it earlier but I'm glad the Something Awful Forums 9/11 thread was archived because it's an incredibly important slice of internet history. For the record I think 9/11 was thousands of personal tragedies for the direct victims of the attacks but one big national farce that led to America's ongoing slide into fascism, and the nationalism and remembrance around it is a joke especially in the wake of the same amount of deaths every fucking day in the US during the height of coronavirus.

Nevertheless I think it's important that if you do not remember because you were too young or just didn't exist on Sept 11, 2001 to read the Something Awful 9/11 forums to get an idea of what the internet was like at the moment when America changed to 24 hour news cycles and renewed hyper-nationalism not seen since WWII.

This all happened before Twitter, Facebook, before Discord. Before smart phones. Before most people had cell phones. When a lot of people still had dial-up internet, even. Some people in the thread were relying on radio because internet and TV weren't keeping up.

It was a live event of internet denizens reacting to the biggest national event (and among the biggest international events) of the past 25 years. It was also a slice of what the internet was like at the turn of the millennium. Not only that, but people accurately calling out who was responsible, and what would result before the attacks even finished.

Keep in mind that the links that follow contain images of the event, lots of Islamophobia, people calling for the Middle East to be nuked, people blaming Palestine, casual racist and homophobic language (this was Something Awful after all), etc etc. They preserved the first 17 pages which spanned about 24 hours during the events. It's the origin of the "WATCH BUSH START A FUCKING WAR" screenshot.

Links under the fold. I've also annotated the pages with notes regarding the timeline and any posts of interest. Note the thread was preserved in Pacific Time even though the page says times are Eastern. That's incorrect. Post timestamps are 3 hours behind Eastern Time, which is the time zone where the attacks occurred:

Page 13 - By this point there's just rampant speculation about more bombs at the WTC, the US Capitol building being hit, etc (all false). Remember this is all just people reacting to TV news and radio and the rumor mill via phone, AIM, IRC, and maybe text messages.

Page 14 - By this point internet news sites are overwhelmed

Page 15 - Second tower collapses. First acknowledgement of the fourth plane that crashed in PA.

Page 16 - There's an abrupt time jump in the threads, I think it was the result of admins pruning the activity or the SA forums going down. This page starts on 9/12 even though it is page 16. American flag signatures and ribbons start appearing.

[I’m thinking about if I’m gonna do a starter call for this event, mainly because of how Beta!Riku is. She’s a Half-Demon but is way too truthful and doesn’t like deceiving people. She’s honest to a fault and has literally caused fights defending the honor of her friends Unless its for a mission then she won’t feed any information to anyone that isn’t the target for said info.

But she does have a bad habit of deluding her own feelings.

She doesn’t know what it means to really fall in love and never wants to admit when she’s actually truly scared of something. She’s a super durable half-demon who can regenerate after all! It doesn’t matter if she gets hurt helping somebody but that’s a lie. She’s so scared of getting hurt, it hurts having one of your limbs cut off even if it’ll be perfectly fine when you stick it back on she can only take so much pain and her regeneration has been disabled in this world so if she gets fatally injured-

Riku doesn’t want to admit that she herself, the one whose supposed to be a Hero who saves Earth and Amaron from the big, bad demon king is just a scared kid. She doesn’t want to admit that she’s lonely and wants more friends but doesn’t want to conform to be something else in order to make those friends, that she’s scared that if she doesn’t save the world then everyone she cares about will die and it’ll be all her fault for not being strong enough and always having to put on a smile. She’s scared that if she’s not the cool, strong protagonist that everyone can rely on then she’ll be left behind-

Summary: The Ghoul remembers a recruit of Moldaver, by the name of Irene Taylor, who he met before the war.

Cooper's weather-beaten boots thudded on the dirt, the stones crackling beneath his heels.

The town was too quiet for there not to be a surprise waiting for him somewhere amongst the pre-war rubble so when a glimpse of movement caught his attention and he pulled his gun.

A kid, no older than 15 held up his hands in fear.

"Please don't shoot!"

Coopers sunken eyes narrowed. "Do yourself a favour and scram. If you try anything I will shoot you. Understand?"

The kid nodded frantically in agreement and Cooper gestured with his gun for the kid to get out of there.

As the boy ran off, a large, rolled up piece of paper fell out of his backpack and unfurled face-up in the dirt.

Cooper stepped over as he re-holstered his gun, and looked down at it out of curiosity. When he saw a familiar face on it he bent down to pick it up and held it out in front of him.

"Irene Taylor," It read. "Songbird of Hollywood Hills."

On the poster was a large photograph of a glamorous woman behind a microphone, and a look of a fond, yet faded, remembrance appeared on his scarred features.

"This is a little public for a meeting isn't it?" Cooper asked as he and Lee Muldaver made their way to an empty table at a local jazz club called the Bird Cage.

"My contact is meeting us here. Don't worry about being recognised, this place is used to celebrities, they mind their own business."

They took a seat and settled in and Cooper turned his attention to the band, the singer had a lovely voice and it reminded him of the band that played at his wedding. He shook the memory from his mind.

"So where is this contact?" He asked.

Muldaver smiled a little. "You're listening to her."

He looked back at the singer.

Now that he thought about it, he did recognise her. He'd seen her face on posters for jazz clubs all over the city but never gave them much thought.

"Her husband is Frank Taylor, he's an executive for Vault Tec. She feeds us any information she can get. She's one of our best."

She had wonderful stage presence, captivating the audience with a rendition of "Them There Eyes" by Billie Holiday. Her champagne coloured dress sparkled in the stage lights, and she had every person in that room wrapped around her finger, and she knew it.

When she finished the song the room roared with applause and she stepped off the stage, politely thanking patrons as they came up to her on her way over.

Muldaver rose from her seat to meet her as she reached their table.

"Lee." Irene smiled fondly as she hugged her. "Thank you for coming."

"That was wonderful as always."

"Stop it you." Irene joked.

"May I introduce Mr. Cooper Howard?"

Irene looked at him and he held out his hand, having stood up with Muldaver.

"Pleasure to meet you Mr. Howard." She smiled as she took his hand.

"The pleasure is mine." He replied with a charming grin.

She sat down at their table and waved the waiter down for a round of drinks.

"How is everything going? Is Frank well?" Muldaver asked.

Cooper noticed Irene make a subtle, nervous glance at the bar before answering. "He's fine." She replied. "You said there was something you wanted to talk to me about?"

"Yes, our new recruit."

Muldaver looked at Cooper and Irene seemed surprised, unable to reply for a few seconds.

"I apologise for seeming so shocked, but with all of your promotions with Vault Tec, you're one of the last people I'd expect."

"Don't worry about it." He replied, reassuring her. "I understand. I'm not the first I'd expect either."

"Well, I guess this proves how convincing Lee can be." She smiled again, but there was something in that smile that seemed pained somehow.

Just then, a man came up behind them with a drink in his hand and put the other on Irene's shoulder and she jumped a little.

By her reaction Cooper thought it was another random patron come to say hello and invade her space, but he kissed her on the cheek and she looked up and smiled at him.

"Hello darling." She said.

"Hi Frank, how have you been?" Muldaver smiled.

"Oh, you know, more hours and no pay rise." He joked.

It was obvious he was tipsy and the discomfort on Irene's face as her husband sat down next to her made Cooper's eyes narrow a little.

"Darling, have you met Mr. Howard?"

"No I haven't had the pleasure." Frank replied, reaching over to shake his hand. "Nice to finally meet you Mr. Howard, your advert for vault 4 was terrific, exactly what we were looking for. I was sad to hear about your resignation."

Cooper shifted in his seat and chuckled uncomfortably, trying to retain his professionalism. "Ah, well, I'm not getting any younger." He joked.

Frank laughed, a little louder than was necessary. "Aren't we all! Say, is it true that it was your real dog in A Man and His Dog?".

Cooper took a sip of his drink that had just arrived. "Yes, Roosevelt, he's a beloved member of our little family."

"Well isn't that just the cutest darn thing." He smiled.

Irene was shrinking. Frank's presence was drowning the one that was only just captivating an entire audience. Then he noticed it and his chest pulsed with distain.

"Mr. Taylor, would you mind if I stole your wife for a dance?"

Irene looked slightly worried and stuttered her reply. "U-um, I don't..." She looked at Frank, almost for permission.

He hesitated but wanted to save face in front of everyone. "Of course." He smiled.

She stood up and walked over to take Cooper's extended hand.

He lead her to the dance floor. The band was playing an instrumental of "Good Morning Heartache" and he placed a hand on her waist.

"Not too close." She said. She realised her fear had slipped out and very quickly composed herself. "Don't want Frank to get jealous." She chuckled, disguising her reaction with a joking tone.

He stayed a modest distance from her as they began swaying to the music.

"He's playing it down but Frank is a big fan of yours. He's seen almost all of your movies, even dressed as your role in The Man From Calabasas for Halloween a few years back."

"You know," he said. "There's a funny story from that set. In the scene where I had to lasso that steer, the first take it somehow managed to pull me clean off my horse. I had a terrible black eye for two weeks after that, but the makeup team covered it up so well that no one could tell. In other words, I know a cover job when I see one."

She nervously glanced at her shoulder, briefly enough that hopefully Frank wouldn't notice if he was watching her.

"I know we just met, and it's none of my business, but Lee told me you married him for the mission. If he's hurting you, you need to tell her."

"She knows." Irene replied.

"She knows? And she hasn't pulled you out?"

"I asked her not to."

"Why?"

"Because this cause means a lot to me, and whatever I'm going through is for the greater good. I'm the only one with my foot in the door this high up, at least before you showed up."

He was getting angry now, not at anyone in particular, but at the unnecessary situation.

"Forgive me, but that's about the biggest pile of bullshit I've ever heard. You don't need to be in this any more than I do."

She scoffed dismissively. "You don't understand Mr. Howard, this is my purpose, stopping Vault Tec in any way that I can, even if it's one password or document at a time."

Summary: You've always been in love with him, but today you were done waiting for him, to see you, to understand you. You were finally done with Jeon Jungkook.

A/n: I tried something new idk how it is. I'm almost nervous to post it. But who cares 😶‍🌫️. Anyway Chan and Jimin were spotted in a restaurant in comfy clothes and I'm digging that!

You kept calling him but no use, his phone was switched off. He should have been here 3 hours ago. You hoped, he was in a business meeting as he told you when you asked him to come home by 6 and he said he'd be home by 7 as he had a meeting.

You still remember the first day you met him, back when you were both 10 in one of your dad's fancy parties. "His father is important to the company, they are new in town, go play with him and be friends. Ok, Y/n?" Your mother had told you with a sweet smile on her face as you nodded. And the rest was history. Considering your circle mostly considered if the children of the other directors and business partners he fit in with all of you well.

15 more minutes passed, and you could only worry more, you walked to the kitchen to get some water and placed your phone and whatever you had in your hand on the counter and get a glass of water, mid way of drinking it you heard the sound of your door open and close and you rushed to see.

"Jungkook?" You called out his name and he looked at you wide eyes like a doe caught in headlights, an expression floated on his face which looked like remembrance.

"You were with her weren't you?" The question flew from your mouth before you could filter it and you found that look filled with guilt on his face. You scoffed and folded your hands and started to walk off to your shared room when he said.

"Why are you like this? She needed me okay!" Jungkook said. "What about me Jungkook? I, your girlfriend, needed you! And you went off with Minji" you said in frustration. "Don't say as if I was sleeping with her. She's still my good friend" he argued and you walked to the kitchen to grab your belongings and stepped inside the room he and you shared.

You slid down to the ground as you closed the door. You still remember that day she walked into your life, Seo Minji.

It was when you were 15.

"Hey, isn't that the new kid?" Mingyu asked and you nodded. "Aw she's sitting alone" Jihyo said frowning, "Y/n go invite her here" Chan said, elbowing you. "Why me?" You asked, not like you were opposed to this aspect but you were simply curious. "You're good at this. I'm saying from experience" Jungkook said flashing his bunny smile, the smile that made your heart skip a beat, you would have done anything for that smile.

And you did, you invited Minji to your table, soon you found out her father actually worked for your father. "I feel strange sitting among you guys,I don't think I fit in" she said shyly. "Bullshit, we're all people" you daid ensuring her, "Yeah, there's nothing much different between you and us, welcome to our group" Jungkook said, flashing that sane smile at here.

It was truly where it all had started, Minji trying to get the boys in her clutches. She thought you and Jihyo didn't notice her accidental touches or her kawai and weak acts in front of them. While Chan could see through them, Mingyu and Jungkook never did.

"Why didn't you two speak up when we were trying to get Mr Kim to invite Minji to the party?" Jungkook asked and Mingyu shook his head. You tightened your fist as Chan held it to ease you up. "She'd feel out of place," Jihyo tried to reason. The truth is you didn't want her to engage further with your circle. She already got Jungkook and Migyu to get her everything she might want. You watched as she used those two as her personal atm, a bat of her eyelashes and she had the

"Gucci bag she wanted but couldn't get as she had to buy her grandmother's medicine"

"Prada shoes cause she was sad her (nonexistent) fish died"

You three tried to show them the real deal, but they refused as Minji never asked, they were willing to give her because she "deserved to be happy too".

You smiled at yourself as you heard a knock on the door. "Babe, seriously why are you angry? I swear nothing happened, we just talked, Mingyu has been ignoring Minji and she felt alone, so she just needed someone to talk to and have a glass of wine with" He said. This always happened, One call and Jungkook would go running to her.

You remember when you were 18, and your father and Jungkook's father declared that you and Jungkook would be engaged. You couldn't help your smile, you would be wed to your best friend to the person you fell for all those years ago. You were happy that now you could help him see reason, help him come out of Minji's clutches. But one look at his face, and you felt all your feelings drain away, his face was filled with disdain and he walked away. He didn't even consider that you could be the one for him for once. Did you expect something else? Did you expect he'll come happily to you and agree to this, you idiot.

But, how could you? You lived to look into his doe eyes that shone bright, not for you, for Minji. You lived for that toothy smile that went brighter when Minji was there. No, they never were in a relationship, rather she never came into a relationship with either Jungkook or Mingyu.

You still remember that day when you were 21, you had just graduated and were at your father's (soon to be yours) office working on some designs about a deal with your assitant Jimin and your now business associates Bangchan and Jungkook. No you two still spoke, you all were still friends and he acted like that evening never occured like he never broke your heart and crushed it into pieces. You remember Mingyu rushing into your cabin and hugging you tightly cheering "She said yes! She said yes! Minji said yes". You were stunned for a moment, you all were. "To what?" Chan managed to ask the man who was happy beyond bounds. "To marry me!" He said, "I'll go home, I just came to tell as I knew most of you are here, I've texted Jihyo, now I gotta tell my parents!" He said with his bright smile. "Congratulations" Jimin said to the departing man, who screamed a "thank you". All of your eyes shifted to Jungkook, his face motionless, teeth gritted, his fist so tight that his knuckles were turning white, a single tear left his eye. You shouldn't but you felt like your heart ached seeing him and you realised how down bad you were still for Jeon Jungkook. "Can you guys complete the rest without me? I'll just sign it" he asked. "Yeah, sure" you said and he walked away. The next day Jihyo had called you and told you, "of course she's marrying Mingyu, he's the heir, the elder child, Jungkook is second to his brother. How is he holding up?" You gave the exact words that you told Chan earlier that day "i don't know". The truth being, he never even read your texts, you didn't have the courage to meet him.

You sighed at the banging sound from across the door. "If you need something tell me, if not please go to the other room". "Can you open the door once Y/n please. Please" he pleaded "Go away Jungkook please" you said, you wished you had said that to him that day two years ago. 3 days after Mingyu's proposal to Minji, you found Jungkook at your door, "can I come in" he had asked you in a broken voice. Your heart broke with his, you couldn't bear to see him like that. He came in to hug you, and you patted your head.

"She loves him, I have to accept that. I don't know how you do it Y/n" he said, and your eyes went wide, tears stung them. "How do you even bear to look at my face much less comfort me after all I've done. How do you look beyond your feelings?" He asked. "Since when have you known?" You asked. "Since 3 days ago, when I saw the hurt in your eyes and realised how you have always been there." He said holding onto your cheek. Your brain told you to pull away, to push him away, to throw him out of the room, when his face inched closer to yours. You knew what he's doing, yet you didn't pay heed to the voice in your head. You focused on the doe eyes that looked into yours deep. Those arms that slid around your waist and pulled you close. You chose to focus on those lips that were attached to yours. You had thought, maybe this time he chose you, maybe this is it for you two. And it was, for the next few months.

Jungkook and you walked hand in hand and stood beside Jimin and Chan along with Jihyo, on Mingyu and Minji's wedding day. Gyuji marriage was the talk of the town and things were finally looking up. Until 3 months into the wedding and you all were in the same party and seemingly Jungkook and Minji caught up, "you are still my best friend" Minji had told him, you tried your best not to drain a flute of wine on her. You didn't really mind much, ge did come back to you. He did love you. Things weren't so bad a few missed dates were seen and apologized and managed up until he missed your 2nd anniversary date and then your birthday. Once because Minji was sick and Mingyu was out of town and other because he mixed up the date after he had drunk a lot the day before with Minji and got absorbed at work.

But today was your last straw, you were done waiting around for him. You were done waiting for him to see you beneath Minji's shadow. You were done crying for him. You were done with him. So you texted Chan and Jimin, asking if their spare room was empty and if you could crash for sometime. Hence, you packed a small bag, took your phone and wallet and left the apartment. "Y/n! Y/n no. Please don't leave me over this. I'll be more attentive and careful. Y/n please." He pleaded. You might have stopped if this would have been any other day, but not today. Cause today you were done with Jeon Jungkook and the bullshit that comes with him.

Jungkook was familiar with this strip or well, device, his eyes shifted to the words that were written on the little screen, 'positive'. "FUCK FUCK FUCK" Jungkook cursed as he felt like tearing off his hair, he did this to himself.

Matthew Gray Gubler has also explained that, regardless of the canonical confirmation, he views and portrayed Spencer Reid as Autistic. Specifically, he stated:

"He's an eccentric genius, with hints of schizophrenia and minor autism, Asperger's syndrome. Reid is 24, 25 years old with three Ph.D.'s and one can't usually achieve that without some form of autism." (Note: Asperger's is an outdated term with Nazi origins, which is now referred to as a part of "Autism Spectrum Disorder" by most countries)

summary: kiri gives you the best birthday gift

warnings: ATWOW SPOILERS!! flashbacks, mentions of nightmares/death/blood/gunshots, some angst, fluffy end, kiri is powerful af, depression

you and neteyam are 18-19.

this is based on a theory (or rather hope) that kiri is going to bring back neteyam for the 3rd movie and i need it to happen.

the dreams constantly got worse.

endless nights of tossing and turning, the horrible memory of what happened that night.

the night you lost your mate.

immense panic washed over you as jake helped you, lo’ak, and spider bring neteyam’s wounded body onto the rock-covered island.

“watch his head!” you shouted.

tears filled your eyes as you rested his head gently in your lap, his fading eyes looking up at you.

jake lifted his son to see the bullet went cleanly through the lung. you saw the way his face fell and knew eywa was coming to meet your mate.

“no… no! my neteyam, look into my eyes.” you stroked the boy’s hair in the way he absolutely loved.

his eyelids were fluttering as his chest went from rising and falling rapidly to almost a complete stop.

“until we meet again, my y/n…”

the constant pain of knowing your mate died in your arms was horrible.

that night happened two months ago. for two months you’ve received pitting looks from your people.

the most you’ve slept is probably twenty six hours throughout the sixty days, even though they started to blend together now.

you cannot remember the last time you smiled. genuinely smiled.

the remembrance of neteyam lived within the clan, as his energy went back to eywa with his funeral.

meeting neteyam when you were 15, the two of you immediately clicked. everyone in the clan knew you were going to be mates.

the day of your 18th birthday was when tsaheylu occurred. the night you officially became neteyam’s, and neteyam officially became your’s.

“are you sure?” neteyam looked over your glistening face, the white dots glowing perfectly under the tree of souls.

“positive.” you gave your soon-to-be mate a smile, grabbing your braid.

neteyam grabbed his, connecting your queue to his. the feeling was powerful, unlike anything you could imagine.

two souls had finally become one.

being mates of course came with the closeness of family. the sullys grew very fond of you, neytiri saw herself in you.

besides neteyam, you grew close to kiri. she became your good friend, someone you could go to when neteyam was being a skxawng.

and kiri noticed the way your face lost some of its color. you became numb, dull, and heartless.

it was very rare for mates to pass so young. and unfortunately, eywa has passed that fate upon you.

it made you bitter. people would bring you care baskets and you would shame yourself for getting pity.

but deep down, you knew neteyam would not want you to be sulking. he was such a bright soul, he would want you to live for him.

live. living; alive. it felt wrong to do without neteyam. the last time you felt alive was when you rode on neteyam’s ikran over the sea to the metkayina village.

the travel was rough, through storms and late nights. but neteyam made it special, he would let his ikran fly and would focus on you.

sometimes it felt as if his hands were still on you, holding you the way he used to.

you had become a little thinner from the lack of food you were ingesting. it was hard to do anything nowadays.

your ilu missed riding with you and would often swim up to the marui pod to check on you.

and kiri had enough.

her deep connection with eywa made kiri begin to research, to ask ronal questions.

and one day, kiri snuck out of the pod and went down to the spirit tree. she connected her queue and instantly, eywa heard her.

eywa had heard kiri’s prayers, neytiri’s sobs, and your broken heart.

the great mother had given one more chance.

kiri snapped her eyes open, seeing neteyam’s body in the center of the tree. she swam over, gently shaking her brother.

her heart almost stopped when neteyam’s eyes met hers.

your nineteenth birthday had finally arrived. the first birthday in years you would spend without neteyam.

the sullys had given you gifts, to which you sadly thanked them. tuk had crafted you special little piece, a heart with you and her oldest brother.

it brought you to immediate tears, to which neytiri just held you as you cried in her arms.

“i miss him.” you sobbed into her chest.

neytiri had quickly grown into the motherly figure in your life ever since you left the high camp.

“i know…” neytiri softly cried, petting the top of your head in a soothing way.

she gently sung a soft tune into your pointed ear. your rapid heartbeat began to soften.

unbeknownst to you, kiri was leading neteyam back to awa’atlu. the great mother had brought her brother back, and knew this would be the best birthday gift she could give.

the metkayinas erupted into shouting as they noticed the boy who once died, now alive and smiling.

he wanted to see you.

neytiri’s ears perked up from the shouting. jake peeked his head out of the pod, seeing his once deceased son riding on the back of an ilu.

“what the hell-“ jake quickly ran out of the pod.

curious, tuk followed.

“tuk!” neytiri called after the youngest, getting up from her position.

lo’ak came running into the pod, grabbing you from your slumped position.

“what do you want?” you groaned.

“you have to see this, y/n!”

you stood up, peeking out of the pod to see the metkayinas surrounding what appeared to be kiri.

you narrowed your eyes, carefully approaching the crowd. neytiri’s sobs were heard from hundreds of feet away. the omatikayas were hugging something, kiri’s smile wide.

as you got closer, it seemed as if all eyes were on you. when you finally focused your gaze on what everyone was crowded around, you met bright yellow eyes.

his bright yellow eyes.

“neteyam…” you gasped.

“my y/n.” your mate smiled at you, his tail high in excitement.

you approaching the boy you grew to love in a slow and cautious manner.

“h-how?” you stuttered, reaching your hands out to hold his face in your hands.

warm, soft, and blushing just like they always were when you touched him.

“the great mother has given me a second chance, thanks to kiri.”

you looked at kiri, a tear in her eye as she grinned at you. “happy birthday.”

the amount of tears that flowed out of you in that moment almost seemed impossible. you jumped onto your mate, crying in his arms.

the metkayinas cheered from eywa’s gift.

“happy birthday, my y/n.” neteyam whispered into your ear.

you began to fall to your knees in the sand, neteyam holding you tightly against him. “mawey, y/n. mawey. i am here.”

eywa had finally heard your prayers. and now that you finally had your mate in your arms, you were never going to let him go.
